That threw me off

When we say “that threw me off,” we mean: something unexpected disrupted my focus, mood, or rhythm. It doesn’t have to be a big problem — just something that interrupts your flow.

Examples:

1-  He was confident during the presentation,
until someone asked an unexpected question. He paused for a second and later said, “That question threw me off.”

2- He was speaking English smoothly until he suddenly forgot a word he knew well. That moment of doubt threw him off, even though he quickly recovered.

Hi everyone, and welcome to Daily English. Today’s expression is simple, very common, and extremely useful in real life. It’s “that threw me off.”

One more time: “That threw me off.”

She was feeling calm and focused, ready to start her day. Then she read one unexpected message — and suddenly, that threw her off.

What do you think this expression means?  When we say “that threw me off,” we mean: something unexpected disrupted my focus, mood, or rhythm. It doesn’t have to be a big problem — just something that interrupts your flow.

Let’s listen to some examples: He was confident during the presentation,
until someone asked an unexpected question. He paused for a second and later said,
 “That question threw me off.”

Another one: She was in a good mood all morning, then one small comment stuck in her head.
It wasn’t meant to hurt, but it still threw her off.

He was speaking English smoothly until he suddenly forgot a word he knew well.
That moment of doubt threw him off, even though he quickly recovered.

Sometimes it’s not the event itself —
 It’s the surprise of it.
And that surprise can throw us off balance.

Now your question: What was the last thing that threw you off? A message, a comment, or a small unexpected moment?
