Sounds about right

means something seems correct or reasonable, even if you’re not completely sure.

Examples:

1- Someone says, “The meeting will probably take around an hour.” And you reply, “Yeah, that sounds about right.”

2- A friend tells you, “This restaurant is usually busy on weekends.” You nod and say, “That sounds about right.”

Hi everyone, and welcome to Daily English.
Today’s expression is simple, natural, and very common in everyday conversations.
It’s “sounds about right.”

One more time: “sounds about right.”

He looked at the estimate, thought for a moment, and said, “Yeah… that sounds about right.”

So what does “sounds about right” mean? “Sounds about right” means something seems correct or reasonable, even if you’re not completely sure.

It’s not 100% certainty — but it feels accurate. Let’s listen to some examples.

Someone says, “The meeting will probably take around an hour.”
And you reply, “Yeah, that sounds about right.”

A friend tells you, “This restaurant is usually busy on weekends.” You nod and say, “That sounds about right.”

Or someone explains a situation, and based on what you know, you respond, “Sounds about right.”

It’s a very natural way to show agreement without being too strong or too formal.

Now it’s your turn: When was the last time something just sounded about right to you?

Thanks for listening to Daily English. Keep noticing these small expressions, and see you tomorrow.
