Lose your footing

means to suddenly feel unsure, unstable, or less confident — especially in a situation where you previously felt in control.

Examples:

1- He was confident at the beginning of the presentation. But when unexpected questions came up, he started to lose his footing and struggled to respond clearly.

2- Even emotionally, we can lose our footing when something unexpected affects us more deeply than we thought.

Hi everyone, and welcome to Daily English. Today’s expression is visual, emotional, and very relatable. It’s “lose your footing.”One more time: “lose your footing.”

Imagine you’re walking on uneven ground. For a moment, you slip — you lose your balance,
 And everything feels unstable. That feeling is at the heart of today’s expression.

 To “lose your footing” means to suddenly feel unsure, unstable, or less confident — especially in a situation where you previously felt in control.

Let’s listen to some examples. He was confident at the beginning of the presentation. But when unexpected questions came up, he started to lose his footing and struggled to respond clearly.

In life, big changes can make us feel like we’ve lost our footing — a new country, a new job, or a new phase of life.

Even emotionally, we can lose our footing when something unexpected affects us more deeply than we thought.

Losing your footing doesn’t mean failure. It simply means you’re in a moment of adjustment.

And sometimes, it’s part of finding your balance again.
