Hit it off

means to quickly get along with someone — to form an instant connection or friendship. It’s when two people’s personalities, energy, or humor just fit naturally.

Examples:

1-  I met my neighbor last week, and we hit it off immediately — now we walk our dogs together every morning.

2- On my trip to Spain, I met a group of travelers, and we hit it off so well that we explored together all week.

Transcript

Hello and welcome to Daily English — Today’s idiom is again related to relationships and friendships: “hit it off.”

Imagine you meet someone new — you start talking, and within minutes, you’re laughing, sharing stories, and it feels like you’ve known each other forever. You hit it off.
What do you think that means?

To hit it off means to quickly get along with someone — to form an instant connection or friendship. It’s when two people’s personalities, energy, or humor just fit naturally.

I met my neighbor last week, and we hit it off immediately — now we walk our dogs together every morning.

They hit it off on their first date and have been inseparable ever since.

On my trip to Spain, I met a group of travelers, and we hit it off so well that we explored together all week.
When we hit it off with someone, it reminds us how simple connection can be.
No effort, no pretending — just a natural meeting of energy and understanding.

Can you think of someone you hit it off with right away — a friend, a student, a colleague, or maybe someone who just made life brighter from the first hello?
