Hello and welcome back to Daily English!  Today’s idiom is “ caught red-handed.” One more time—caught red-handed. Let’s see if you can guess what it means from these clues:

You walk into the kitchen and your little brother is standing there—cookie in one hand, crumbs all over his mouth. He told you earlier he hadn’t eaten any… but you caught him red-handed.

Or imagine a student secretly using their phone during a test… and the teacher walks by and sees everything. That student? Caught red-handed.

So what does “caught red-handed” mean? It means to catch someone in the act of doing something wrong. Usually, it’s about being caught while lying, cheating, stealing, or breaking the rules. You didn’t just find out later—they were caught in the moment, with clear evidence.

Let’s check the Examples: “He said he wasn’t smoking anymore, but I caught him red-handed behind the building.”
“The company was caught red-handed trying to hide money from the government.”
“My roommate denied eating my chocolate, but I caught her red-handed with the wrapper still in her hand!”
Your Turn!  Have you ever caught someone red-handed—or been caught yourself?
Maybe it was something funny, like sneaking food, or something serious?
