A few things to Note:
Genesis 6 begins the narrative about the Worldwide Flood. In some Bibles and in preaching you may hear the word "antediluvian". This is ...before the flood. This chapter begins with the state of nature and man Before the flood. verse 5 says that the hearts of men were "only evil continually".
"But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." (v. 8) The remainder of the chapter is describing the design of the ark, which should not be overlooked. If you were to scale these measurements, you would soon find an unpopular image. The ark was... A Box! No rudder, no keel, no fancy ficade... a box!
Genesis 7 begins with an invitation to "Come" and ends with judgement on all the earth. The waters exceeded the highest mountain top by 15 cubits or approximately 22.5 feet. There is no way that this was a regional flood.
Genesis 8 again begins with a wonderful phrase, "God remembered Noah". My math may be off a little but i figure Noah and his family were in the ark for 1 year and 17 days, that's a long time to be in a box full of animals, and only 8 people. But God brought them safely through the flood and brought them out of the ark. After obeying God's commands to empty the ark, Noah, built an altar and worshipped God!
Matthew 3 details the beginning ministry of John the Baptist and the Baptism of Jesus Christ.
