Healing + skills = the parent you always wanted to be

The skills part of this equation is often expressed by the question: ‘how do I get my kids to…?’

Today I explain the ACEs model, which looks at Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how they affect children and the adults they become.

I explain what ACEs are; some limitations of the model and - most important of all - how YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER YOUR OWN LIFE.

You have the power to seek healing, to learn skills and to break your cycles so you don't pass on intergenerational trauma. The ACEs model and media/ fiction sensationalisation can lead people to feel they are 'damaged' and 'hopeless.' Please know, you have more power than you know and ACEs are not a life sentence.

Learn more about ACEs here in this free 50-minute training delivered by the UK government (aimed at young children professionals, but accessible by everyone).

Dr Jessica Taylor is the psychologist I discussed – her work is incredible and will hugely benefit all cycle breaker parents.

Sign up for the Own Your Parenthood five day free workshop, and then head on over to the Facebook group Cycle Breaker Parents Unite for more interviews, how-to guides, free training (Friday afternoons) and a community of like-minded parents.
