There are some things that I know a lot about, weird things. I know a lot about the history of celebrity. I know a lot about Dalias. I know a lot about living on an island, puppies, the state of Idaho. But there are so many things that I don't know very much about.
Instead, it's really interesting. So whether that's a very detailed understanding of Dalias with discography or what F1 is, there's so many things that I'm like, that's interesting. I only have so much brain interest power to allocate. And so there are other people who have decided that is where their focus is going. They need someone who's actually spent time with that cultural artifact to unpack it with me.
My name is Anne Helen Petersen and I write the newsletter Culture Study. I think it's this incredibly vibrant community that is in conversation with itself. But we are always talking to one another about the things that matter to us and the culture that surrounds us and pushing each other to have better, deeper, more interesting conversations.
And this podcast is an extension of that universe. It allows us to do more and will answer all your burning questions about the cultural phenomena that surround you. Like, why do people love watching Fast Cars Drive in Circles? It started out as bootlegging and it started out like in the South in the Carolinas is like, you got to build a really fast car out of whatever parts you have around so that when someone discovers your room shine so you can get away.
Like that's that is the way that origins. Yeah, that's the origins of that car. And why do close sucks so much right now? Anybody who's manufacturing at a really, really high scale, no matter how expensive their products are, you're going to find these corners cut in their manufacturing. This Gucci sweater that I found on their website that is $3200 I believe. And it was fully half polyester. And even why the Paw Patrol theme song is so aggressive.
This is like if you took a pamphlet about regional community services and asked Blink 182 to turn it into a song for like a rock opera. If there's anything I've learned from writing my newsletter, it's that there is so much to be gained from thinking more about all of the culture that surrounds us.
So I cannot wait to do more of that with you here on the Culture Study Podcast.
