Episode description

Hello Culture Club pals! Happy Tuesday.

In this week’s episode we chat about the news that Oatly has received investment from a less than sustainable company and we ask if brands can ever truly be ethical in our capitalist systems.

We refer to this article by Tammy Gan and this Quartz article about how it’s impossible to lead a totally ethical life.

Maggie mentions Jonathan Safran Foer’s book We Are the Weather: Saving the Planet Begins At Breakfast and Jasmine references Georgia Murray’s article for Refinery29 UK about influencer culture.

This week Jasmine recommends Stan’s latest TV drama, I Hate Suzie, a British series about an actress who has her phone hacked and how her life unravels.

Maggie recommends Amazon Prime’s series Upload. A sci-fi series about a man who chooses his own afterlife after uploading his consciousness into a virtual world.

Maggie also recommends Jasmine’s Artemis article How Social Media Changed the Way I Read Novels (Jasmine didn’t put Maggie up for it, she swears).

Our lovely jingle, editing and production is by India Raine. You can email us at cultureclubmail@gmail.com, find us on Instagram at @cultureclubpod, or on our personal accounts at @jasmineeskye and @yemagz.

With love,

Jasmine and Maggie x
