Naarmcore Isn't An Aesthetic

This week, we start off with a chat about Kylie Jenner’s 17-minute climate criminal flight. We see who else is complicit in emitting tonnes of Co2 into the atmosphere, and ask if we’re using celebrities as scapegoats for our helplessness. 

Next, Emma Chamberlain and Addison Rae seem to have taken a different direction when it comes to new photoshoots styled by Australian artist Gadir Rajab. This causes us to ask if a high fashion editorial is the new brand makeover. 

Supermodel Emily Ratajkowshi is reportedly filing for divorce from her film producer husband Sebastian Bear-McClard. This TikTok video by @victoria.alario framed these celeb cheating scandals in a new light. We reference this Mammamia piece by Jessie Stephens. 

The Internet loves to put labels on aesthetics but what happens when it becomes problematic? Over social media, there’s been a rise of “naarmcore”. We share three TikToks, one from user @punisher.mp3, one from Clothing The Gaps’ Sianna Catullo, and another from Tariq Junaid Ismat AKA @literallykatebush. 

Tariq has spoken out as an Indigenous person on why “Naarmcore” isn’t an aesthetic, especially a white one. Tariq also shared their thoughts with us in a little interview, so we thank them for their time. In this section we reference a piece in Fashion Journal titled The problem with ‘Naarmcore’, TikTok’s latest fashion aesthetic by writer Hazel Lee.
