And then I'll have the pirate logo and I'll offend real pirates like the Somali pirates probably get very upset seeing the East Carolina team take the field with that offensive pirate iconography on there. Well, we will. We'll wait to hear back from our our Somali fans on. I mean, I think those might have been the people who took over our website in like 2010, I don't know. So maybe, maybe they were mad at what we were talking about. I mean, honestly, you could take the no quarter tshirt, you could cut it off at the midriff and go like straight 80s, you know, villain from like Revenge of the Nerds just wearing the, you know, quarter shirt.
Yeah, but it has to be that like mesh material with the little holes in it, like of the jersey material. Otherwise it doesn't quite work. But that would be peak 80s. They've never brought what they do like retro Jersey Night, which I love by the way. Very rarely they bring back that that mesh version of Jersey which was like so top notch 80s. You just don't see that big hold mesh anymore. Oh yeah. The I, U ones were especially
nice. When they bring back the throwbacks for those, they got to do it. I would agree. All right, we have week one. Let's get to it. First game starts tonight, right? This is Thursday night. Thursday night, Nebraska at Minnesota. Nebraska off the high as a College of having, what, 92,000 people show up for a women's volleyball game in Memorial Stadium. That was that was very cool, seeing that. Yeah, good for them. I mean, there's nothing else to do there, right? Right. Not much else.
Yeah, I mean it's it's a it's a thumbs up all around. All right, Nebraska football at Minnesota football tonight on on FOX. Nebraska comes in as a 7 point underdog. Well if you were lucky and you took this earlier than today, you would have gotten 7 1/2 on Nebraska. I actually have this in a three-way parlay teaser, so I'm getting 13 on Nebraska and that because it's a six point teaser, I like Nebraska plus a touchdown here. I think that that is the play.
I don't know how good Minnesota's going to be. Nebraska's got a new coach, they played Minnesota tough last year. I also think the under might be in play here at 43 1/2. So I think it's going to be a low scoring game. So give me the Huskers plus a touchdown. On the Action Network I see the under 46, so you might want to figure out. Or well, it's maybe maybe that's what it opened at. Sorry. Maybe. Because now it's showing forty 4343 1/2 on points. Bet. Sorry, sorry.
Yeah, so that's so it started at 46, so this 43 and a half's already been bet down, so you might want to stay away from it. But 46? That would have been a great number. I mean, what a way to start off the year. You're already betting on Nebraska. This is great. I love it. I'm excited. How unhappy you're going to be in like 3 weeks with Nebraska, I don't know. I mean this is this is Also, we got to remember Minnesota doesn't exactly have Vince Lombardi strolling the sidelines over there.
They have elfin Sprite PJ flex hopping around and I I I don't know. Give me Matt Rule. Isn't he Wasn't he dirty? Doesn't Matt rule like a dirty coach and that's why he left college? I don't know. I can't keep up. I'm assuming what they all are, but I like those coaches. I expect them to win so. Friday night. Another another coach heavy team. You have a Mel Tucker's $100 million contract going up
against Central Michigan. 7:00 Fox Sports 1 you have Michigan State at home as a 14 point favorite. All right, you can get them at 14.5 on some books. So if you want the chips, that's your play. Me, I like the chips plus 2 1/2, two touchdowns and a half a point. So if you get that hook, I say take Central Michigan. The over under is at 45 1/2 so not expecting a huge high scoring game. And these Mac teams always kind of play tough.
I mean every one of these Central Michigan guys probably got passed out by Michigan State and they went nothing more than a stick it in their craw. So yeah, give me, give me the dog, plus the points. That's I like that logic. Is there any any thought to go and just straight money line Central Michigan or is that nuts That seems that might be a bit much but keep in mind for these week 1 bets the we're all just guessing. Nobody has any idea. So you know we're all just kind of guessing here.
These could these could all go off the rails but why not. I do have a outright winter upset alert for you later on though, so. That's after the break, all right? If we had commercials, that would definitely be a commercial break. That's fantastic. All right. All right. And we're back from commercial break. We have Eastern Carolina at Michigan. James, you told us you had an upset pick brewing. Talk to us about this game. Are the Pirates going to get it done in Ann Arbor?
Are Maybe they will not. That would have been such a good transition. That wouldn't have been great, but I do think 36 1/2 points is a really, really, really big line. Yeah, and and Harbaugh's not going to be there. I don't know how much they're going to want to run up the score. So give me that stupid huge line of 36 1/2 points, and the only reason I'm taking it is because that line is over 7 or over 5 touchdowns. So, like, why not? You're taking a lot of points this week, man.
I'm taking a lot of points this week all. Right Next up, they're listed on Action Network as USU. It wasn't for the logo. I was going to be like, I don't this is a Utah State. Utah State at Iowa. Iowa is A at the rank 25th. They are also a 25 point favorite, Okay. So the Aggies are going to steal all the corn secrets from Iowa and they're getting 25 points. Ridiculous. Give me 25 points against Iowa. I mean, when was the last time Iowa won a game by over 25
points? I'm asking because I don't know, but I'm guessing it's probably been a while and if they did, probably 20. Pressure of the game. I was there when I you played them two years ago. They they won by 25 points. Yeah that one. Well they're obviously playing a better team now so no I will take I will take those points the over unders at 43 I will take the under. Kirk Ferran said this week that his favorite win ever was their 64 victory over Penn State.
So get I also like the under there we're we're we always roll the Iowa Unders. Yeah, Iowa under. It's at 4045 right now. So yeah. All right. Speaking of teams, we don't know much about Purdue. The Boilermakers, they are hosting Fresno State. They are a four point favorite over the Bulldogs in West Lafayette. Yeah, kind of tough to know what to do here. I like Fresno State plus 4 1/2 which is the line you can get them at. I think we probably see ourselves like a field goal game here.
Not sure what Purdue's going to do on offense. I I don't see either team pulling away. Friend of mine Purdue fan likes the over here at 47 1/2 so he said he he he said his best bet on the game would be to take the over so that may be the play here. But I like to bet against Purdue by taking some points, so if you force me in a corner on the points, I'm going to take Fresno State. You know you're allowed to bet other teams besides just the underdogs of the points.
Just making sure we're aware of that. Is it the new James in 2023? You're just you're straight points all the time. I'll be giving. I'll be giving up some points. Don't worry. I've got my, I've got my little thing here. Don't worry. OK, so the marquee game 3:30 on CBS features the Ohio State Buckeyes. Traveling to the House of Horrors Memorial Stadium. I U is a 30 point underdog at home over under at 59 1/2.
OK, so here we go. You're Ryan Day, you've got to match up in Bloomington against that master strategist, Tom Allen, and you don't even know who their kickers going to be. What do you even do? Like? How? How do you even take the field at that point? You know, you've already been gamed and so I think that the Hoosiers might pull the straight upset here. No, I don't. I but I do. I do like them to cover.
So I took them at 30.5 and for the full game, but their first half number at plus 17 1/2 is what I really like. They do generally stick around a bit before fading, and so for the first half, that 17 1/2 number seems awfully high to me, and so I did take that as well. Come game day, they're not out yet. I'm going to be looking at the player props and I plan on looking at some Marvin Harrison junior props because I think he's going to torch the I U secondary. Yeah, I like that.
That 17, 1/2, it's not a bad bet. It's almost, you know, it's in a weird way. It's almost like a bet of this is crazy. It's almost like a bet of the season.
Because if you know if I use able to kind of keep it competitive with Ohio State that's kind of you know what we what what we've done most years if we come out referencing again that 2021 game against Iowa and just we're down you know 21 nothing in the first quarter it might be a harbinger of like ooh ooh this could be a bad game and a bad season. I I honestly I'm this is such a stay away for me I I understand everything you're saying. I get it all.
I just, I'm so nervous. About I, U Football and A little bit pessimistic. It's even tough for me to start gambling on them too. Well, I mean, it doesn't take much space to say we're going to lose by 30. That's fair. I mean is a is a wild number. Like I remember, you know, a couple years ago, we were playing them and it was like Ohio State was up by like 7 or 10 at the time and we had the ball and I was still able to get, you know, Ohio State plus like 28.
Or you know Ohio State with 28 points during the game. Like so for a 30 point spread during a regular season game is just is nuts. But it is what it is. And there you go. All right, next game, it's Allenson. Go ahead. Go ahead. Just last year, Ohio State was a 40 1/2 point favorite and they covered. Yeah. Yes, that was.
I remember that game I was thinking about that we played that game of like what what's Ohio State, what's that line going to be all all year We were playing that game of where we thought it's going to go. We're not going to play that this year. I mean maybe the Indian, Michigan game, but I just don't think we're going to have and that's that's also Bloomington. I don't think we're going to have the same. We're never probably going to.
This will be the highest line. I think we have all year probably towns in Maryland. I I don't see a line for it, I could not get a line for it either. Generally, those lines don't come out till the day of. What? Let's play this game. What? What would you make that line? That'll probably be a 35 1/2 point line. OK. Yeah, the over under is probably going to be like 69 1/2. Yeah, 6162, something like that. Yeah. All right. Well, we're not going to play that game.
Buffalo is. We just did. Bear Buffalo at Wisconsin One of us on this podcast has picked a straight up money line upset winner. See who it's going to be after the break. All right James, we're back from break. We have Wisconsin, a 27 point favorite. You have been a fan of the underdogs. You have one outright underdog winner this week. Tell us what you think of Buffalo. I like Buffalo. I like Buffalo at 28, which you can get them at still. So if you can get them at 28, I
like 4 touchdowns. I'm sorry. I like 4 touchdowns. I don't know what's what Wisconsin's going to do. I mean, Fickle's there right now, so I imagine they're going to be improved, but I don't know yet. I imagine Wisconsin will probably just run away with this, but Buffalo's not dreadful, so I think 4 touchdowns is too much to be against a Mac team, and then they're not a bad Mac team either. I just think that line's way too high. All right, another another
points. God, you're just racking up points. All right, we got three left. Got him. I'm. I think I'm trying to guess who your outright winner is going to be. Next up we have Toledo at Illinois. Illinois is a nine point favorite, although I also see Toledo at laying 9 1/2 on some books. But we'll call it. We'll call it 9 1/2. This is my underdog. That's what I thought. Yeah, I think Toledo has a real chance of an upset here. I I like them at 9 1/2.
In fact, I have them in a parlay at 9 1/2. But I think they got a real chance to pull the upset here. They're probably the best team in the Mac, and Illinois is not the best team in the Big 10, so you know. Breaking news, I know you heard it here first folks, so if there is a chance for a an upset, I think this is probably our best chance. I like, I I I like where your
heads out on that and I agree. Western Virginia going to Penn State. Penn State is a 20 point favorite and Happy Valley. Now this may shock you, but I'm going to lay those points. Yeah, I think Penn State, Happy Valley. I think they're primed for a big year and I think they're going to put a ton of points up. I don't see how West Virginia, who's not known for having a good defense, is going to be able to stop them.
Now, West Virginia may put up some points, but this isn't a Big 12 defense they're playing either. So and that crowd, that crowd is nuts. So yeah, I will lay the points here. I I completely agree. I would also look at doing, I might even do a little parlay of like Penn State plus Penn State laying the 20 with the over at I see it at 4949 or 50. But either one of those, like I think if you're going to, if you're going to lay 20 points, you might as well also take the
over. Yeah. I mean, unless it, you know, ends up being, you know, 20 to three or something like that or 35 to three, you know, and then you get, you know, I mean, that number has been bent down already because it was up in the 50s. So it's been bent down already. Yeah. So, you know, then maybe okay. Well, maybe that's your idea then. Well, was it bent down too much and should I go back on the over? Yeah. All right, last one. Last Big 10 game of the week, we have Northwestern at Rutgers.
Northwestern is a 6 1/2 point underdog. I am laying points here. I like Rutgers by over a touchdown. I think. I mean, I don't know what Northwestern is going to do. I mean it could be one of those situations where it's us against the world type mentality or whatever, but I just don't think they're going to have the talent to pull it off and and and Shanno's a good coach and I think Rutgers is going to be improved. Can they move the ball? Can can they score 7 points? Probably so.
The over under that is 39 1/2 which is a very low number. It is. It's funny. I'm in the exact same boat you are with like the Shianna's good coach. Like I always say, I wonder if that's just like, whatever, the opposite of recency biases, you know, like pass passancy bias because like they won one Big 10 game last year like any other program. Or like, man, that that coach, that team is falling apart like. And I know he's building back up, but it's not like Rutgers
was just awful for years. They weren't great, but it there's a world where maybe Shianu was a good coach is what we should be saying. That's fair. That's fair. It's a it's a results oriented business and he hasn't had him recently. But I I can see the direction they're going. They just never seem to have any real skilled talent on offense, you know? It just seems like they just can't get the right guys in there. So we're going to try something new this year.
I'm going to put together some money line parlay. It's just for fun. At least the first couple weeks I will. I mean, you know, I would I I got to see what the odds are. But what if you did like Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, Maryland, Wisconsin, Penn State, money line? I mean, just complete like heavy favorites on all them and just throw like 10 bucks on that. I wouldn't see a problem with that. I don't know what kind of payout you'll get, but you could
certainly do that. Yeah, probably not much of A payout. I do have some some parlays that I've done this for this week. One is a four way parlay. These are all money line winners. Michigan State, Miami, FL. Western Kentucky. In Washington, you parlay all four of those together. It's -120. Okay, so I like that. I would this is one of those weeks I just throw Ohio State and everything. Like even though it only boosts you probably like half a half a penny on whatever your bed is
like just you might as well. They're not going to lose, that's for sure. Especially if you're doing one of those ones where if you step up so many legs in your parlay it increases whatever. I have a three-way teaser and so this is a six point teaser. Which is the under 50 1/2 in Utah State, Iowa, Fresno State plus 9 1/2 against Purdue and Northern Illinois plus 14 1/2 against Boston College. OK, notice I'm on the Max schools getting points, so we'll
see what kind of you know. And then I've got another and this is a a pretty good one here. This is plus 1228 odds. OK, so here we go. We have over 59 1/2 Ohio State, Indiana, Rutgers, -6 1/2 / 66, 1/2 University of Southern California, Nevada versus Nevada, and over 49 1/2 Ball State, Kentucky. So that is one I've kind of put together and I'll post these to X and everybody can see kind of what's we got going on there.
And I have I have one more 3 way teaser that's another 6.1 that has Nebraska plus 13 under 50 1/2 in the 40 Utah game tonight and then over 43 1/2 in the Ball State Kentucky game. Kentucky has a new offensive coordinator that they're supposed to be really like pushing the tempo. And so I think that there's going to be some points put up in that in that game. Okay, I like this. I like this all. What is your, what is your team? Have we figured out what are non Big 10 team?
Is this season to follow? Yes, and I just mentioned them in one of the parlays there. It is the University of Southern California Trojans, because we're going to make a lot of money betting their overs this year. They don't play a lick of defense and they can score on anybody. So take the over 66 1/2. Okay, yeah, that would have been. I was just spacing. I didn't bet on their first week game. I should have. They just they they torched whoever, they're whoever they're
playing. Yeah, I want big on the Notre Dame game in in the Week 0, but you know, you got to be watch yourself on these because we don't know what these teams are going to look like, what they're going to do, you know who's going to play well and who's not. So just be wary. Don't put too much money out there this weekend, folks. Be safe out there. I mean, be like or be like James. Just take all the points, OK? I'd rather lose and take the points on some of these. That's that's fair.
That's fair. Well, you picked an underdog. I I do respect that. I don't want Purdue winning by, you know, I don't want to be rooting for Purdue to win by a touchdown.
