Welcome back to Crimson cast on Galen Claudio. It is the 9th of May a Sunday, if you're an IU student. Congratulations. The spring semester is over. We get ready for summer now, in Earnest as classes will begin Anew on Tuesday, but there is still a false sport which kind of technically got turned around in. To a Spring sport this semester that is in action for Indiana as Indiana. Men's Soccer is in the quarter finals of the NCAA tournament because of course, that's what I
you men's soccer. Does they take on the Seton Hall pirates on Monday, which if you're listening to this podcast on Monday, that's later today. The Hoosiers with a chance to go to yet another College cup. And it's been a fascinating season for this IU team as they've had, you know, a very Weird year. I was there were supposed to start in the fall that got postponed everything.
I push together into the spring, they play the Big 10 only schedule, kind of like what happened with IU football and I you men soccer did what I even soccer does which is, they won the Big Ten regular season title, little bit of an asterisk tonic, I guess as they didn't have to play Penn State or Michigan, because of covid cancellations. But they were able to beat those teams in the Big Ten tournament and They end up with the term and title as well.
So another double for this IU men's soccer team just continuing that string of excellence in the Big Ten Conference, and then a tournament run, that's been fraught with a bit of peril. They struggled in both games, to some degree, but really seem to find their legs a bit as they got into the second half of their most recent game against Marquette. They end up winning that contest and now they stand at the doorstep of another College cup.
So we've got some special guests, joining us on Crimson cast to talk about IU men's soccer, And talk about what's happened this season, talk about what to expect with in these games, we've got Evan Gerke from the Indiana Daily student, The Men's Soccer Beat writer, as he will be chatting about the season as a whole. And also talking about what we've seen so far in this NCAA tournament.
So following that interview, we also have Jared Kelly joining us, Jared writer for the Hoosier Network, as well as a writer for
pigs.com. You've probably seen his coverage of Indiana, Men's Basketball or And a football there and he'll be chatting with us, not just about the NCAA tournament for IU but also a really nice story that he wrote regarding the yeagley clan, Jerry, a Glee and and Todd yeagley and beignet, Go the whole family and just talking about the, the dynastic aspects of IU men's soccer, and she's kind of the differences between the various levels of
generations within the family. So well worth your time to read that will hear from Jared here in a little bit. We'll start with even just a quick reminder, folks that you can catch Crimson cast every time we release a podcast. If you subscribe on Spotify or on Apple podcasts, just type in Crimson cast. We've got Evan next and enjoy this as we talk about IU, men's soccer over the course of this
season. And what they've got coming up, hopefully, a successful run, coming forward to the college cup. And our first guest on this episode of crimson cast, is the beat writer for the Indiana Daily student covering IU men's soccer this year. Evan goerke Evan. We haven't had you on the Pod yet, so it's great to see you. And welcome to the show. Thank you. It's going to be here. Yeah. So let's just kind of start at
the beginning of this season. I mean, you know, obviously a year ago at this time lockdown happens, but I think everybody thinks we'll be able to play some Outdoor Sports in the fall,
it won't be that. Bad and you know I remember running into Todd yeagley at a local establishment in August when they made the ruling that they weren't going to do that and it was kind of like okay what now and you have pointed out in a couple of your pieces that this started a very long strange Saga for IU soccer that led into this kind of impromptu spring season that they've had. So you know what is what's what what is it been like for the team and you know what have you
seen out of them so far? As they've tried to play through. A really weird set of circumstances. Yeah, it has been super strange. Obviously, this is the first spring season and the history of I even soccer. So, you know, going into it. No, not really no no knew what to expect, they're trying to kind of make this, a more normal thing. There's, you know, during The Works to pass it. So, men's soccer is a full season full year long season starts in the fall and Xin. Jun ish.
This is kind of a trial run for them but Obviously, they haven't done that before, so they have to have to adjust to a lot of different things. The main one being the difference in. Whether usually you start in August, you have nice weather and then the college cups and December January. When it's cold out. This year is kind of the opposite. They started in February the first couple games. Why you were moved indoors, they had to go play in Westfield because it was just, it was snowy.
The first game was too cold to second game. Ohio State didn't have the facilities endorse or they had to come to Indiana. And now is the seasons going on. It's getting warmer and warmer. Now, they're in North Carolina. This is the warmest weather. They played in all year and now they have to adjust to that. Yeah. It's, it's certainly been very disconcerting and, of course, having to play just a Big Ten schedule for the entirety of the regular season that was interesting as well.
And yet, you know, there's kind of the Native quality of this IU team leads them to another regular season title albeit one. That's got a bit of an asterisk because of some games that got canceled and And so forth but then they kind of reproved themselves in the Big Ten tournament and when that as well. Yeah I mean how surprised were you that given all the things that they've dealt with IU was able to come away with another double?
I'm not super surprised obviously it takes a lot of, you know, good playing to kind of wind that double. So there's always a little bit of surprise in there, but if anyone was going to do, it was going to be Indiana, just because of the history of this program and they have a good mix of Ian sin, younger players, obviously. Now dispenser glass is gone that one hurt but he's still leading
them from the sidelines. They have a chip Palazzolo, Joe Schmidt. And then a lot of young players, a lot of sophomores on this team. I've noticed bezerra Celentano Daniel Muni, Ryan wouldn't bring who's been a super sub for the team, so there's a really good mix of that of, you know, we've played for a long time.
And this is, you know, they're the young spry players that have kind of taken over this team so that gave Good chance or are you the kind of create this run and they have easier portion of the schedule, the beginning of the year that we were able to run through get some confidence build up. And then once they got to the tournament, everything was clicking. The Sarah went off in the
tournament. Roman Celentano played just as well as he always does and the defense with probably, the only exception being join mayor's red card, wasn't even really a bad decision was Stellar do the Big Ten tournament and really just help them kind of do what they always do. When the title even during the regular season obviously there was a bit of a stroke they avoided Penn State, who honestly was probably the second best team in the Big Ten this year.
It was kind of hard to tell going into that last game. I was I'm not sure how good Penn State actually is because they have two games canceled, because of some Cava covid positive tests on their team, which was Michigan, Indiana who I have that point. I was like oh those are definitely the best two teams, the Big Ten. So not seeing Penn State before that was kind of weird but Beating them in the way. They did.
Kind of prove that even though Penn State is a very good team, any outstanding, the best in the Big Ten in this year. You know, what do you think about this? I you team. I certainly I'm always impressed with the talent. The Tide yeagley is able to assemble your after year. I mean, it's just this constant churn Victor bezerra has, you know, been certainly the Highlight from a goalscoring perspective and Far Away leads
the team and in goals scored. And, and, you know, is I think tied for second in assists, He's been such a huge part of the attack so far this year, you know? But as you mentioned, it is interesting because they do have a group of players that seems to mesh very well around him.
And you look at the overall stats for the season, and even though it's been largely just against Big Ten opponents, they've outscored opponents, Twenty Eight, two five so far this year, they've a shot them by a pretty significant margin, you know, what is it that, You see out of this roster, you know in terms of what makes them tick like we do, what is the force or what is the mentality that they're able to bring? That allows them to be as consistent as they've been over
the course of the year. That's a good question. I think it kind of starts with how solid the defense has because there's kind of that trust in the defense that they are able to build onto and move forward, especially back, when Spencer glasses are you saw like they were fine sitting back kind of letting the other teams had a trach, attacked them and then going on the counter because they knew if they got Spencer, the Duvall on the sidelines. He can whip it into a
cross-legged scored easily. So it's not a defensive minded, T necessarily It starts through the defense because of how good the defense is that they're able to work off of that and it has kind of changed the last few games against Marquette. It, they kind of had to be defensive but they were trying to push. It may be a little too much sometimes I couldn't get that final pass that I needed.
So then when they were trying to push marketing, obviously got that counted end up going off of that was kind of the big moment in the first half at least for most of the game that was You thought was going to be the big moment. But when the defense is that good, there were able to kind of rely on the defense knowing that for the most part, it's going to be scoreless, maybe at most one goal. That's all we do, they have, they haven't given up more than one goal season, so they can use that.
And then when the moments right push forward, and then you've got Strikers, like, Victor, bezerra, or even, some of the other guys wouldn't bring her Brenda Leigh, maluku Bali who've both, you know, scored two goals against Marquette. Those guys are good finishers but obviously busy. Is the leader whenever they get on the balls or so credit
scoring. So they don't have to be trying to get 15 shots on goal every game because all I need is one or two and you might see one or two goals beginning of the NCAA tournament. They get the first round by the st. Francis game was a bit of a surprise, not just, that it went to Ooty, and then penalty kicks, but it really looked like st. Francis was a little better condition like They they they they seem to have a lot more spark. Level of was less miles on the
legs or something like that. Was that a surprise given that obviously, st. Francis is probably a couple of steps down in terms of overall quality. Well, this is something equally talked about in the postgame press conference for one they had just won a game. So he said in the NCAA tournament when you win that game you have them moment momentum. They had them that momentum that they can kind of ride into the game against Indiana and then second of all I you was coming
off of 15-day. Which is way longer than any other normal NCD n-c-double-a tournament. Pause usually it's like a week from the Big Ten Tournament to the NCAA tournament. So there was definitely some maybe some tiredness that they'll, they weren't fully and condition. They're also playing in warmer weather than they had all year. So that was going to take a toll on them kind of getting used to that. Just the but same for us is to play really good game.
You can't discredit them. They the Youssef either. Their Tigers scored the goal near the score probably 230 more. They were really pushing Indiana and Indiana distant. Have the gas, maybe to finish it and Regulation. And without Joey May or to that one did hurt them. Because obviously, that red card, he was suspended for that game. And that was probably, one of the reasons they score. There's a few counter chances that Muni alone. I don't think I think bright be you play second back.
Who is he's not even a defensive player my trade. He's just been playing there since since Spencer went out. If Muni and mayor Our bolt back there, you might not have seen them scored but there just wasn't enough gas maybe for regulation. But yeagley said, you know, once I got to penalty kicks, they had Robin angle. They didn't, they weren't nervous at all and I was sent on
has had quite a last few weeks. Obviously, you have the shootout in the Big Ten Tournament, you have that shootout, and then, you know, essentially an Unstoppable shot that Marquette put up that first time for the goal. But then a couple of key saves that. I think a little got a little it overshadowed in the goals that I use scored, there was a there was one very late in the game, which I was convinced was going in and sent us on time.
I was in exactly the right spot. It really seems like a guy that's managed to pick up and carry on this tradition of just excellent. Guys between the sticks for I over the last four or five itinerary actions. Oh, yeah, he's been fantastic. And he's just a sophomore who's growing. I got a chance to talk to some of his former coaches, Neil Thompson, who was his goal Coach for a long time. David Richardson, who was his Club coach? They've been working him on him
with him for a long time. He's six foot three. Now he was not always that big used to be a pretty small guy. He was five foot four when he was 14. So he wasn't the kind of person you would have expected to see
him goal at that time. And he kind of took that personally became one guy who really worked hard the You know, because he had the he didn't have the height or anything, he work on the fundamentals, try to become the best goalkeeper, he could be and that's really translated to his game. Now he's always on the right position. He's really quick with his feet which allows him to move back and forth and he still got room to grow.
He's which is impressive, considering how good he's been, he can't even get better than this and um, it definitely would say that like he's been one of the main reasons I use been as good as they have this year, it's which is him and bezerra that have been the key. This is n because he's been saving pretty much everything he's got. I think eight or nine shutouts on the season.
Now, only once in his twenty seven career starts, has he allowed more than one goal and that was against Maryland last year and one of his probably is, for his biggest challenge. When he comes back in the Big Ten Tournament shuts him down, and I use able to get past them and he's just improved and said, so many chose this year's so many impressive. Saves diving, saves that have really kept gyu won a lot of games and kept them ahead in a lot of games.
So why you is in the quarterfinals, they're playing on Monday, which depending on when we release this might be later today. For those of you that are listening and they take on Seton Hall and Seton Hall. The the six seed overall, they're also sixth in the country and this is a team that's had an interesting season to say the least that they got started off pretty slow. They drew with New Jersey Institute of Technology.
They lost it Georgetown. Which That's, I mean, Georgetown has been in the top ten most of the year, but then they get to the Big East Championship. That's a Marquette team that I, you just knocked off. Seton Hall, beat them for to 1, and then they're able to avenge the earlier loss to Georgetown. And and yet they, you know, they had to go to penalty kicks against Virginia Tech. They had to come back twice in
that game. What's your read on the Seton, Hall team and what sorts of problems, might they posed for IU? Yeah, they've had a pretty incredible year that that loss to Georgetown is the only law, so it's been a while since I've actually lost the game. Probably some momentum coming off that Virginia Tech win just because it was really unprofitable. Been for them. A very exciting game, scored. 11 seconds left in the first half tied at one, Virginia Tech took
another lead scoring. Like the 82nd minute I have had to made it to penalty kicks, which, at that point in Virginia Tech was down a man's. I was like, oh, baby the penalty kicks. It's like IU and against Penn State. I think they're gonna win this. It was six all, I'm heavily cakes and then the goal years. Yeah, the goalie makes a safe waves off. His teammate to take the penalty kick himself scores, the game winner, pretty impressive moment and Seton Hall.
Their history isn't great. So seeing what they're doing this year is really impressive going into the season. They had 13 consecutive losing Seasons. They haven't been to the NCAA tournament since 2005. The last time they made a turn around this, good to the Sweet 16 was in nineteen know sorry Elite eight I guess it would be here. The the semi her quarterfinals, whatever was 1988 where they ran into you, who became the National Championship Champions that year.
So there's a little bit of a guess long-lost rivalry little bad blood that they, they've been talking about avenging but they've improved a lot this season and they could definitely pose a threat to IU their number six in the country. This is the best team in the end. It's going to face all season. They've got good players like CJ, troubling, but seven. Goals defense said in Luke Adamas. The Team all-big East and then their goalie and dries. No, to do a deep and save.
The few penalty kicks and regulation last few games, most of the penalty case against Virginia Tech went in but he's been definitely proving as the season goes on. So the main the main thing Indiana has to do in this game is spread that offense and with with the the offense it's mostly been bezerra but you can't focus on bezerra because if you do you get something like the ndaa goal that we saw against Marquette
where they swarm him. He Taps it off to a wide-open player who can finish as long as Indiana can spread the offense or defense is going to be fine. So the moat and the more offensive spread they get if they can get you know services from outside cross into the box that actually connects to the player, which they couldn't do against Marquette stuff. Like, that is really the key to advancing to the next round.
It's going to be interesting. I mean, Seton Hall has had a bit of a leaky or defense than Indiana over the course of the season. I think they have a lot of 14 goals to Indiana's five. But as you mentioned, This is a pretty complete team and they do have that kind of team on a mission sort of atmosphere around them right now so we'll have to see what happens. You know, we've seen how you thrive in these situations in the past. They've generally done a pretty good job of taking that next
step. Once they get to the quarterfinals over the course of the last five or six years. But in this type of a season, it's hard to say, you know what? Ends up happening and it should be a pretty compelling quarterfinal definitely. All right, well, Appreciate you joining us. This is fun. And hopefully, we'll have you on again when I, you makes it to the college cup if that indeed happens. So best of luck with the rest of the summer for you, and I appreciate you taking the time to join us.
Thanks for having me. And now joining us on the show, we have Jared Kelly, Jerry, Kelly from Hoosier Network, and from pigs.com, he's a little bit of everywhere in the eye. You Sports Universe. You've probably seen his work on Twitter, Jared, thanks for joining us. As always, good to talk to you. How are things going? Things are good. Appreciate you having me on first of all, first time on the show, longtime listener though. So yeah, should be good. Good time talk, I meant soccer.
Absolutely, no. It's a really fascinating time for IU as they sit here on the precipice of another College cup and a really weird season as we've watched this whole thing unfold, we were talking about this with Evan Gerke, a little bit earlier on this podcast. What's been your reflections of this season and the way that everything is gone down for this
IU team. Yeah, you know, they obviously the spring season in general has been very odd like most sports big-time only conference conference early schedule. And you know, the thinking was coming into this season for IU, is they lost a lot of pieces? You know, Jack mayor, Aiden Morris Josh pain. Just a lot of pieces. And then, you know, we were really, really sure what we're going to get this year. And you lo and behold, Victor, bezerra big ten, offensive player of the year, get Roman
soliton. Oh, big-time goalkeeper of the year. And you know, I you only lost one game this year and it was to Northwestern which was a shock that that would came out of nowhere. Yeah. It was like the first time in like over a decade or something. But yeah, I mean the the pieces are kind of all lined up and they find themselves in a lead and now, so they kind of control their Destiny.
This point I want to Talk a little bit about about where they're going to be going in the tournament and what they're facing in this quarterfinal game. But before we get to that, I wanted to talk about this piece that you just released a couple of days ago. Really good profile on on the yeagley men, you know, from from Jerry down through Todd and then been, if you haven't read that yet, folks, I would highly recommend doing. So I've been around. I you soccer long enough when I
read it I was like. Well yeah, of course, that's exactly. What I would have expected but I think for a lot of people, you know, the egg Lee's are a name. There are people that are interesting but it's, you know, until you've worked with them and I've had the pleasure of working with Todd quite a bit. It's you never really know what you're dealing with from afar. So what was that process?
Like I guess for you reporting, that story seem like you got a lot of really great, great access enabled, it being able to talk with all of them. So how was putting that piece together for you? Yeah. Well, this story is kind of a, almost a year in the making. I'd set up these interviews last summer during during quarantine, when nothing was really going on. I was I'll try to fish for a story, and I always knew I wanted to do something on the église because just, you know,
just just their name alone. But I wanted to find, you know, something different than just the story of, you know, them, because everyone knows a national championships, the Big Ten championships, all these things.
So I want, but I wanted to dig deeper and I kind of got this idea that, you know, no, you don't hear much from Jerry anymore, at least post coaching, and I was going to kind of attack from that angle and then I got this idea that, you know, it did this coaching kind of tree that that they're building with with Ben now playing and also Grant who's a freshman there, I wanted to kind of see, is this something that's going to last long and in kind of endure for, you know, decades
upon decades and then, you know, the more you get to kind of talking to them Todd is so laid-back, and he's so much different than a lot of coaches will talk to and that way, because he's always so present in the moment. So, you know, when I was talking to him, it kind of the kind of light bulb went off and I was like, you know, this is a story, you know, this isn't a story just about a really good
program, really good family. It's a story about three generations, who may be all have different ideas of what they want. Kind of going. Forward or the president. Yeah. And I think Ike signs through really well in the piece. As it's, you know, the if you've watched like worth the wait, for those of you who pay attention to men's soccer, if you haven't seen that, I would highly recommend it.
It's a great look at the early days of the men's soccer program and just the whole process of getting the thing going, which, you know, we tend to look at things sometimes. Like we look at IU basketball which seems like it's been there forever, you know, it's been there since the 1890s
essentially. Men's soccer took a long time to get off the ground and then once it got off the ground it took a long time to get to the point where it is in the constellation of US men's soccer programs but once it got there is essentially as never left. You know and with Todd it's interesting because you know I I know from my own time in
covering the team. You're right like there's just a there's this almost reserved nature this really is not laid back because it can be a very Tense guy in his own way but he's very soft-spoken when he when he talks. And I think it's really fascinating, kind of capturing that and contrasting it with Jerry who's a bit more
boisterous, a bit more direct. And then, you know, you pass that on to the third generation and it's like, well, okay, that might go in a different direction entirely and it's hard to say at this point. And certainly, I think if you go back to when, you know, when Todd was 19, 20 21 years old, maybe You're seeing the same thing then and it takes a while
for things to mature. So I just as someone who's followed this program for a long time, it was really cool to kind of. See the Nuance that existed in the various stories and how they kind of overlap with one another. Yeah, I appreciate that.
And the thing about like you said thing about Jerry, you know, like I said, he's very boisterous and, you know, he makes no bones about it. That, you know, he's I mean he's always trying to do things that keep them around but I remember Two years ago, kind of you'll see if you read the piece, one of the scenes is him sitting in the Press Box. And I remember two years ago, I was sitting there literally right next to him, you know, he was there.
I look down, I look back over and he's gone didn't seem rest of the rest of the match, that's kind of just one of those little things that, you know, with a family like this, that you might not notice it, you know, just the amount of pressure and anxiety. There is whether they like, to show it or not. I mean, it's definitely a real thing. Yeah, it's it's going to be interesting as you said long-term. I mean, I think Todd's got the job for a while here if you
wants it, you know. So I'll be, I'll be interested to see if this ends up being a multi generational thing, even beyond what it already is. But but really good work with that piece. And I hope everybody goes and checks that out at the Hoosier Network as it's it's a some really good insights into things. So, so let's talk a little bit more about this current situation with the team. They struggle a bit coming out of the gates. Against st.
Francis and a lot of that appear to be just kind of getting their legs under them Marquette. Also kind of seem to have I you on their back heel a bit throughout the course of at least the first half but that second half it really seemed like someone something awoke in this IU team and you know despite the fact that Victor pizarra had an off game, he was getting blanketed defensively you know. Really was really hard to get him the ball. I you found a way to score two goals.
To hold off Marquette at the end. We do you think this how you team has turned a corner? Now going into this quarter final? Yeah, I think I think one thing we kind of saw, well, it was a theme for this team for a lot of the season. Was that their first tabs were always a bit sluggish or at least maybe a little. It took him a little while, you know, to get their feet under them. So, I wasn't too much surprised by that more than I was that, you know, especially in the same frame, the st.
Francis Brooklyn game. Just the fact that they couldn't see. I'm to figure out a way to kind of I guess get I mean game plan around them just because they were doing so many different things that I you hadn't seen especially in Big Ten play. And it definitely worked for Saint, Francis Brooklyn. And then at Marquette game.
Like you said, I think it was just a matter of them, kind of, I think, you know, I'd halftime because Todd yeagley said this in the in the press conference, AJ Palazzolo obviously senior You kind of rallied the troops. And I think it was it was one of those moments where it's like our where the, where the, where the third overall, seed in the tournament, we're better than
this. I think it was, it was one of those moments where it was kind of a, you know, we got to put our foot down because, you know, obviously, what we saw is safe or as Brooklyn, game was not their best output and same same with the first half of the Marquette game.
Yeah, it's it's tough because obviously this how you team is very talented, but it's also a really weird season, you know, on a variety of different levels and trying, Figure out, you know, not just how good you are, but how good your opponent is and what really to expect on a night in Night Out basis, especially when you've just played a Big Ten Conference schedule and you know you know that measuring stick but you bring in teams from the Big East it, you know, you end up being
exposed to things that you weren't before and it's to some degree. As I was mentioning to have an earlier. It's what makes this Seton Hall game, interesting? Because, you know, I you did struggle with Marquette. They ended up winning. Game this same Seton Hall team beat that Marquette team for one in the Big East tournament and has got some pretty big scalps. So far over the course of their, you know, their season, they beat Georgetown. Obviously, they've managed to do
some pretty exciting things. How do you rate them compared to this IU team from a talent perspective? And where do you think they might pose the biggest threat
for IU? Yeah, they're really heavy on International Players, which is interesting because I kind of had that pipeline going, and it's similar to what we saw to with st. Francis Brooklyn, you know, just a lot of their talent, you wouldn't, I guess you wouldn't really find, unless you have kind of fish them, out of those pipelines overseas, but but one of the things about well, like you said, Seton Hall, they they'd beaten Marquette before
they're just so, you know, the just so sound like I'm back and watched their match against Virginia Tech, which was crazy. They want in penalty kicks 726, their goalkeeper. Actually finished it off for them, the game-winning goal. But yeah, with seeing all it just they don't do a whole lot of things that can be capitalized on, right? They don't, they don't make mistakes that you'd find. Maybe in an earlier, round matchup in the tournament.
I think those kind of things where I, you really, we saw in the market in the market match, right? They had Chances and especially the first half, but they couldn't take advantage of with a Seton Hall team. They're going to get very few and, you know, they got to find a way to find the back of the net, when they are given those
opportunities. Obviously, you know, sometimes in these sorts of circumstances, you'll get situations where nobody finds the back of the net, we saw this in the quarter final few years ago, in Indiana was hosting Michigan State and that went to PK's and I you had the better goalkeeper that night and ended up coming away with the victory.
Three. They have a similar kind of player in Roman Celentano. Who's already won to shoot outs for them and made a crucial shave at the end of that Marquette game to keep it from going into overtime. You know, this is kind of a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway, like, how important is having a guy like Celentano between the pipes for? I, you going into a game like
this. I mean, Todd Diego said it best, you know, there's two things that every championship team needs, it's, you know, a proven goal scorer.
They have then Victor bezerra but more importantly, it's a goalkeeper who can who's just tough and whose courageous and not, you know, not afraid to battle for those, you know, balls in the air and and they have that in Celentano and, you know, just looking at his demeanor when especially in those PKS because I don't think he's lost a PK at in his, in his career in that at IU, which is Just crazy in with him, he's
just always so poised. And there's this one moment in the Marquette match of the very end. There was like six yellow cards on IU and it was just super Scrappy but there was one moment where silence how kind of snatch the ball out of midair and you just kind of stared down on the the Marquette player and it is that kind of I guess attitude that is I think really allowed him to take that next step and like I said, he's So confident in that and you know, that's
that's pretty rare. And then, you know, Todd Lata, Diego, even compared him to guys like trading Muse, just in the way he goes about his business. It's really something special to watch. Yeah, I mean, it's, it's really been something to watch and it just it kind of feels like Groundhog Day in a good way. When you follow this, I use soccer team for a long enough, it's amazing.
You know, they'll lose professional caliber players MLS players and they'll replace them with younger versions of those players who are just slightly different, but end up, The same sorts of results. Prediction for the game. What do you see happening in this one? Well say it stopped, because with that Marquette game, I thought it was definitely gonna go a little bit different than it did. You know, could I had to kind of rally itself here if I had to guess?
I think I think this one looks like it's got over time written all over it at least. I mean if I had to take a guess I think You might be able to find a Golden Goal somewhere in there, so, it's tough. And this is, this is absolutely dice roll territory and I think you can make an argument, this is probably the toughest matchup that exist for any team in a quarterfinal for either team. I mean, like Indiana essentially
right up there. It almost one seed caliber or top Seed Cow, but they are obviously kind of one of the top four seeds but Seton Hall also legitimately One of the top eight teams in the country and with some of the teams that we've seen get knocked out of this tournament already Clemson getting knocked out and Stanford getting knocked out. Yeah, there's this might be the toughest overall matchup when you take the overall quality of two teams put together.
So should be interesting to see. I'm really fascinated to see what happens. We'll see what happens here on Monday as Indiana takes on, Seton Hall, Jared, thanks for joining us and we'll hopefully catch up with you again. If I you does indeed make it to the college cup. Of course. Thanks Abigail. Mm. Yeah. All right. Thanks to Reed Kelly for joining us here from the Hoosier Network and pigs.com and thanks again earlier on to Evan Gerke for joining us from the Indiana.
Daily student, will see what happens with this game as Indiana as a big task in front of it. I don't want to minimize what they are going to face against Seton Hall. But, you know, as, as Evan mentioned earlier on, this is really Seton Hall's first time at this stage and Indiana has been here before. So there is some institutional memory as far as what needs to happen and How these sorts of games go and that mental Edge, can sometimes be the difference between Victory and defeat?
So the Hoosiers taking on Seton, Hall 5, p.m. on Monday, be sure to tune in. You can go to his ncaa.com I think you can also just follow along with IU men's. Soccer on Twitter, they'll probably have the link for the video, so check it out and we'll try to continue our coverage as long as I, you is in the tournament. If they do, make it past the quarterfinals, the college cup semi-final the first game for Indiana. It'd be on Friday, May 14 and that'll actually be on ESPNU.
And then the college cup is Monday, the 17th of May, that would also be on ESPNU. So we'll keep our fingers crossed that the Hoosiers can get to yet another College cup and we will probably chat with both of the gentlemen that we had on earlier today. Maybe some other people as well as we move forward. If Indiana indeed advances for Evan goerke and for Jared Kelly, I'm Galen klaviyo, you've listening to Crimson cast, thank you for joining us once.
