Yeah, we'll talk about it at our next HR meeting know, I just, I wanted to talk to you and I figured the easiest way, was a podcast to includes both of us have been doing for a while, but we're also joined by my old Crimson cash. This is going to be more like, Crimson cash or maybe even like Crimson cast after dark because I wish we're all on Zoom. James's background is the Mandalay Bay. It's just fantastic. I feel like we're gonna get three other backgrounds as this podcast goes a long. We're here to talk odds. We're here to talk gambling. We're here to talk about the NCAA tournament but I want to start with. I think it's fun.
It's talked about the odds for the IU basketball, coaching search and I'm going to pull that up and James and I were just talking. They have not updated those correct. So it's still with be line at the top of the list. Yeah. Yeah, they haven't updated him since they first came out and I couldn't find anywhere. I could actually Bet On It. So, I'm going to pull that up now. Fantastic podcasting, just pulling it up now.
So it was be line, plus 300 G at Bayside, be Line, Drew beard, and the I love all for its plus 700. This is from its from the William Sportsbook like is this how these are these odds from today? Like really like offered still plus 700, you have, they read a paper lately. I mean, Rick pitino's ahead of Brad Stevens. Well, these are all these are all three days old though and there's no updated. There's nothing. There's no new updated. Odds less. We can't find him.
So weird updated today. Who would will be almost hit one? If we're updating today? I think probably, I think be lines probably still at plus 300. I think really well, here's why from, from a wedding In perspective. It seems like the safest of The Hires there's no buyout
involved. It's a coach that is very available right now have their checks many boxes and I think from an outsider's perspective, it feels like the safest bet you're not counting on. I you to have to pay 5 plus million dollars or a huge buyout. Or both, if you Pat on belie, I would say after that, I'd probably what was the original. It was Scott drew at 350. I mean, if I was a sports book, I'd keep that up there but
that's a sucker's bet. Because if you know anything about IU, they're not going to. They're not hiring Scott dry be really shocked if they hired Scott. Do I think all of that was driven by that, Pat 40 article, and a little bit of other Buzz that was going on in the media, you know? So I would stay away from that one. Probably keep it up there. I'd probably bump geared up to 400 like plus 400. I That one's got a little more legs to.
It certainly seems to be some mutual interest there from his comments yesterday. I think Stephens. Probably, I mean in the original odds Stevens was +5000. Got if you've been able to get that at that amount, that would have Jesus fuck. Just retire. They're like, just hit the Caymans but I'm thinking you probably get it. What plus 1000 at this point, because it's still a long shot, but it's not a 5.
It's not, you know, it's not a +5000 like I It's a little more in the ballpark than it was originally priced. What about Thad Matta? Yes, it had models originally plus twelve hundred. So this is interesting with Mota one of the things about this coaching search. That's fascinating, is that there's there's no nobody knows anything like IU has a lid on this thing. This is this is like trying to open a pickle jar.
They no one's getting in. And so the normal thing where you've got leaks coming out from all over the place, you got agents, spilling the beans to reporters so they can get their dude, a higher contract. Now that's happening right now. So we haven't heard a lot from about Mata, maybe Matas like the super secret candidate. They got in the back room, or maybe he's not a candidate at all. Either way, I'd bump him up to probably plus 900. Yeah, you still have isolated again.
This is from couple days ago, five 1400 that seems about, right? I don't know if I'd go higher or lower than that Phi seems and kind of a good spot muscleman that, plus fifteen hundred, I would actually move that I think Muscle Man's probably more like plus 500 plus, 600 range. Yeah I mean I think you look at the other ones that I still don't understand the Dana Altman thing where that came from.
Like I don't know if someone owed his agent a favor at the sports book or something like that. That makes very little sense. We've heard nothing about him, you know, I think you'd probably have to throw a couple of the IU related candidates in at some it somewhere here. Like I think, you know, Mike Woodson's name probably should go somewhere, I don't know who's gonna get higher but I do think that that there would be a reasonable thing that people bet on. Yeah, I love Patito at +3000, I
love that. He's on there. I love he's above Brad Stevens, but that's a great. It's a great just just, just a name on there. It's fantastic. I had a friend text me tonight, who I would put my money on for the coaching search. And I told him I wouldn't put any money on it. I think it's pretty much all suckers bets at this point. I think, you know, nothing to really base it on. Yeah. I mean I would if I was able to bet on this I would throw money on Stephens muscleman and beer.
I think you're going to be okay if you pick one of those three, I mean, I would probably head John be wind just because like I think you've got some opportunity there but yes it's I think any of that group probably makes some sense and I have a hard time seeing eye, you not hiring from that particular group. So, yeah, James we haven't had you on in a while but I don't want to do the breakdown.
The arch are all that. But what are your thoughts on who do you think is going to be the new higher odds aside? Well, my dream is Brad, stevens, or Thad Matta. I think, either one of those would be absolute home run hires, I don't know, I would, I actually would have loved having potato think, because they do I wins. And that's all I really care about it.
This point, so it baby, when James and I were in school, I remember, I think our Dream candidate to fill the position was actually Rick Majerus who you know are IP long since right? But I was all fired up about Rick Majerus being in Bloomington and, you know, the patina was a candidate then and it's funny to think it's like 20 years later. We're still like, I don't think it's gonna happen, but 20 years later, we're still in the cycle.
Could you imagine if we had to I did read after I think we talked at one point is his buyout at iona's like 10 million dollars. Like that would be 12 million. Just if we had to buy if we had to buy him out like 10 to 12 million dollars, I'd be nuts. But the odds on that Pitino being the coach, you would have to put down too much to make your money back as the donor. So yeah. Well that's I've joked about
that. Like, if you're the donor who's made this pole, like you should do a two-step process where you go to Dolson, you're like hey man here's my five million dollars for the next coach and then take a million dollars and throw it on the if it really is Stevens at five thousand to one, you'd be doing pretty good putting like, you know, 100 Grand on Stevens. And then giving your money to Dolson to go higher Stevens. It so, come on guys, show up with baseball bats, plus your kneecaps.
Is this all legal now? It's all good government. Run that by the time they get to it they don't it'll come with with a baseball bat. That's no, I want to ask James, we're heading into the tournament itself here from a, let's move off the IU coaching stuff per second and let's talk a little bit about some of the what's the best values. You're seeing here in the first couple of days of the NCAA tournament does anything stick out to you? Well, my biggest advice is play the promos.
So every site has promos and they've got a bunch of them so that's your best place to start on anything. One example, I think it was DraftKings like a promo was if Purdue wins one game you get $300. Like I don't know if that's worth the three hundred dollars. Like how did bet on do? Is it absolutely it is.
But see the thing is a lot of times those are only for new people but they're running ones for like existing customers during this time span So you're getting a lot more out there than normal for people who already have accounts with the sports books. So play your promos whichever ones are at, I posted a Twitter at the Crimson cast 260, some of the you know, some of the more popular sports books and what
promos they were running. I've got a free $45 coming tonight on Michigan State because I've got Michigan State plus 100 and some points. Is $50 the max bet on that one. I'm doing that. That is correct. Yes. But hey, ended up being a free $45 for you. So that, you know, that's my advice. I see some good value on some of the props out there. DraftKings had 112 seed to be 25 at - 125 odds. I snatched that up.
I think stay away from a lot of like future bets and really watch things in game would be the other. Advice that I'd have so like, you know, maybe you know, a team, you know, that's favor gets down 10 minutes into the game, 20 minutes to the game. Those lines, really fluctuate, and you can get some really good value there.
I look at day one and you know I think with Villanova having not look good in the Big East tournament having lost probably their best player to still be a seven-point favorite to me like that's an interesting bit right there. Like I think Winthrop was pretty good. Winthrop is like, yeah, I don't know, I don't know there any other I'd like them to win anyway, but you're getting them
plus 7 as I look down. Like, I think that's the one that I like, I would say, I know Galen didn't ask me, but the things that I would stay away from Artemiy. The sucker bets are like the anything plus, 20 or 25 points. A Houston is a 20-point favorite tomorrow going through here, like Illinois is 20 to 22 and a half and then we just seen it where good teams can win but then struggle struggle along the
way, then find a way to win. I would just I would not be comfortable with anything over, you know, somebody having to cover a spread more than like seven or eight points. I just just that would that would scare the heck out of me in the first round. One specific bet that I do love is Syracuse. San Diego. State is over under 139 and a half. I definitely think that's going under the total. Those are two defensive teams and we've seen what that Syracuse is. The owners is done to other
teams over the past. I don't think there's gonna be a lot of points in that one. The other one up yet. Sorry, go ahead. Another one that stuck out to me. He was Colgate in Arkansas, you know, I don't look at this, they're totally there to really high scoring teams and they absolutely should make that number but towards the end of the season, they were scoring less points. I just that's such a huge number, take the under there. That's 160 and a half or 161 is
what I'm seeing. Oh, and I mean it's interesting because it opened it, a hundred, and fifty, three and a half. So it's gone up in some cases eight points from open a couple of days ago. So that to me strikes me as a game where people have talked themselves into this into being with track meet and we don't see that happen quite as often, there's teams that they have nerves, they come in, they're not shooting as well. They're in an unfamiliar. Building, that would be the other thing.
I would mention pay attention, if you're going to bed over unders. Where is the game being played? Assembly Hall Mackey. You know any of the smaller venues Hinkle I guess you're gonna have some good shooting performances because those are basketball Arenas.
You get a team in the Lucas Oil Stadium and they're shooting on a weird background where the basket doesn't have any depth perception, fans percentages, they go down quite a bit there and so if you've got a number you're looking at and you're a little Sketch you out of that. Probably, maybe. Look at the under there. If you've got the option. What about the farmers Coliseum? You know I've broadcast in that building before now. But yes, it was.
I would count as a smaller facility, that's for damn. Sure, but yeah, I'm less worried about that. We saw basketball there last week. I think it was the I think it was the her might have been the Horizon League was playing their tournament there or maybe it was the Mac. It was He's one of the two. Anyway, the that it felt like normal games like there was normal offense being played there, so I'm not as worried about the farmers Coliseum, as I am about Lucas Oil.
Good advice. I would also, you know, I love playing the region winners and you can get some interesting value. Their, you know, the the one seeds are all like you know Baylor's plus 100 to win the South Michigan's plus 175 Illinois's plus 150 but you just drop down two or three seed lines and you get some pretty
good value. So if you look at like the Midwest you're like look I think you know I like Houston or let's say you're in the Houston like plus 350 s not bad I guess not a bad number to get there even if you're like Florida. A plus 500 or Texas. Plus 550. Like, you're getting a two, three or four seed, which has pretty good odds of making the final make, you know, winning their region, you're getting pretty good odds.
So I would say pick one or two regions where you just think you don't like the one seed and throw a little money on one of those teams and kind of that 345 range. You're going to get good value. I'll tell you the one, that's the one that sticks out to me. There is Alabama, plus 390 that that's a that's a two seed that Plays a fascinating and very difficult to defend style of basketball. They have Michigan's region. Do I have that memorized, a, our
admissions reading? Yeah. And Michigan, you know, Michigan might be missing, a key player in a lot. I think it was livers set of or broke his foot, or at a stress fracture in his foot, I haven't seen if he's going to play or not, but even if he's not 100%, that's a tough Alabama team and that's pretty. That's that, that to me, I actually had Alabama in my final four. Anyway, so that's one that I I
would seriously consider. And I would double down with Alabama as just the national champion at plus sixteen hundred. Like, if you're going to do that, like bet ten percent, if you're going to get like 50 bucks on them to win the region, throw another like 10 on them, just to win it all just for the odds. Yeah. Another thing you can look at is looking at like the conference, you know, as the which
conference will win the title. So if you're, you know, looking to find some value in there, I think the big Ten's, actually pretty good value there. I think. There are four teams from the Big Ten that could legitimately make a run in the tournament. So, if you think about it that way, that's another place you can get some value. I think, Yeah. Or is it just a certain?
I think I was gonna say the Big 12 might be the other one to look at just because you've got Kansas who's played better, you've got Oklahoma state, who's got the best player in the tournament and you've got Texas who look really good at the end of the season as well. Plus, Texas Tech who, you know, by overall, we know my tender going on another run in this
tournament. So either of those conferences, I like the big Ten's, probably got a better shot, you might be able to get slightly better value with the big 12, the team that stuck out to me again. It's a value play. Not a I think they're going to win it all play. But for, when you look at National Championship, you know, odds Michigan State at plus 10,000. I don't think they're going to win me. They've got to play one game but I will say it is 0.
Has these teams where you're like, they're not good. And then every both y'all are shaking your head. It's a value piece of, you know, I like them. Better than Wichita State Who currently is out at +10000 well, but it's good. That's a sucker's bet. If I've ever seen one it's a bet on his. Oh, it's just a bet. I could, I'm it.
Save at 10,000 to one like, you get these teams with Israel, where it's like, how the hell, are they in the sweet 16 and then they are, then it's just like, oh, yeah, they're good. I would, I would rather put that money on like LSU who was in the SEC title game and and it looked really good. Unlike Michigan state, who's participating Lee was worse than Indiana this year and and just kind of happened to win some games at the end to get into the tournament.
I don't know. I know that even at ten thousand to one has like a long shot to me that that's that's not worth the dollar you would lose on that bed. Yeah that's gone money you got a Maryland at plus 10,000? I go on Monday that either. So if something's plus 10,000, there's a reason it's plus 10,000 because it's not going to happen. So probably right.
But come on no I am that I think are notable just to think about and I just mentioned Alabama it - 17 I think a lot of people are giving Iona too much credit because of Rick Pitino. It's One thing to come out of covid hibernation as a team and win the Metro Atlantic tournament. It's another to face down the one of the best power Conference teams. I'd like Alabama to cover that spread pretty easily. The other one, I'd keep an eye on is Yukon. We're not sure what James bow
nights injury situation. Is least, I haven't seen anything more recently. There - three on Maryland. Maryland, obviously if you're a big ten fan is pretty straight. Ikki. But Maryland is also a team that shown an ability to beat some good team. So I think I kind of like Maryland in that as the underdog like Maryland as well. I also like Rutgers cone out, the big tend to be Clemson. Is there a 10-7 as well, right?
They are. Yes, and that's a really, that's a tight spread if I'm not mistaken, that was like a point and a half or something practically uptick them. Yeah, yeah. So there I like those especially in the first round because I've always see so many upsets every year in the first round things that you wouldn't have
predicted, you know, games. Like, I mean, there's so many I can't, I can't even name one of the top of my head but games where you're just not going in thinking there's any issue if you can find pick them's and you like one of those teams from what You saw or don't like the other team, like, jump on that because those are kind of fun because it's just the outcome that you're worried about as opposed to the spread.
And I do think particularly, if you're just getting started in this, that can make it a little more entertaining or maybe, you know, watch the start of the game and, you know, toss a live bed in, that's another option to go with. You know, those pickups sometimes you might, you can usually tell in the game of basketball, which teams playing harder and that's usually the team that wins. The game and that's usually pretty easy to tell. So, you know, why? Betting can you saw with IU this
year? I mean I made so much money live betting against the Hoosiers and I hated doing it but I could tell as soon as they go a minute and a half without scoring, boom, it's time to start looking at the lines because they're about to go five or six minutes without scoring. I was going to ask. What's your income replacement plan for not having Archie Miller coaching?
I you at this point like that that was a, that was You, you you've got some trips planned based on all the Vets who made well much like to have to wait and see. DraftKings. Interesting props I want to run
by you guys. You can pick the winning State and honestly Texas is under Texas as - 1134 because I guess you're getting both Baylor and Houston and Texas and Texas and Texas Tech but here's my other ones Washington Plus 2005 with I guess it's just all Yeah, Illinois plus, 600 Michigan, plus 600, Florida, plus 1300, Ohio plus 1300 Iowa, +2000 West. Virginia 2000, Connecticut. 3000, do you like any of those? No. All right, let's do it. But you're getting like Chicago Illinois.
There you go. Do you really think can win a National Title? And if you think that just bet that I think betting the state kind of unnecessarily, like unless you really think two teams from the same state have a chance, a real chance of winning the national title. I would probably stay away from that. Yeah, I mean, if you fill out your bracket, you've got Houston Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor in it. Go ahead and take the Texas back, you know, I mean, Yeah,
one. And like, you know, I would also say this that, I think that if you really like a team, like, let's just say you love Gonzaga and you think they're going to win it all, you know, them to win. The tournament is plus 200. Those odds aren't great like you can get Jalen Suggs to be the most outstanding player plus 900 and so that I would, I would bet that way if you like one of those teams, it's really going to do well or that's it's got,
you know, rough odds. I would look at the statement the state bet seem to be the same for Washington, but Like all right, you know, the chance of Gonzaga wins, Jalen Suggs being the best player is probably pretty high where it's weird. Is Illinois, both Kofi caught. By the way, Kofi cockburn. His name is cockburn people. I know it's everyone wants to say Coburn, Kofi cockburn and I you'd never get, you know, I you they're both plus 900 to win.
Most outstanding players, you got to pick one of those. I just pick Illinois at plus 700. Unless you're going to Parlay it, because why not, right? Yeah. Yeah, anything else. And we got to wrap up here pretty soon.
We're just doing a little short. Well, add more of these throughout the course of the tournament but James, I guess with you first anything in else that you've seen any props or any games that you would tell people to maybe keep an eye on, I just say if you're going to do some parlays, be careful. You don't like in Jamal on one team that you really Is going to win because that's the surest way. They're not going to win, so just keep that in mind.
So you have three different three trained team parlays, but you have Purdue and every one of them you might want to rethink that strategy. Just so one thing doesn't sink. You there's a way to get plus odds on both sides of it. So if you bet the dog to start and maybe they get ahead, you can get plus odds on the former favorite. So you win either way. Way. So don't be afraid to have fun with it though. And small bets, there's nothing wrong with that.
That's my advice for the opening weekend. If you're watching a game console I've been on it, it's so much more fun. Yeah, I would like advice. I love it. Yeah, I go back to I like galen's point, you know, Place some of the Arena's. I think you're going to get overs when they're playing an assembly hall on Mackey and Hinkle and probably unders, especially these early rounds and the larger.
The larger venues, I will also do some cool prop still on DraftKings. Like, I just threw some money on this number of been, I do it for every conference but number of Big Ten teams that will advance to the round of 32 ÷ 6 .5 or under 6.5, of course, I took the over because I'm a big Half. But I also like this one, I mean, it's - money, but you can basically either take Gonzaga and Baylor or the field to win the whole thing, Gonzaga and Baylor's, plus 115.
The field is - 143, like I'm gonna throw some money on the field just because it's a little more fun that way.
But yeah, I always like look if you think a team is going to win look and see if you can get their player for most outstanding or if you really like Gonzaga to win it all, instead of betting them to win it all plus 200, just Bet them every single round just just basically bet them all the way through and to James's point maybe use them as one of your parlays on a couple of different things but yeah just be careful
up there. Don't link everything to one team especially in the first or second round. I love it. Sounds great. This is I think we've given people a lot of good advice as they head into this. The the is this is this gambling Christmas is this weekend? This is qualified. James actually, last week was my favorite week of the year for gambling. The collet the conference tournament week is actually my favorite week, but this is a rubber one day right there. I mean, this is, you know, right

I went with my current wife at the time. A girl friend Marcie, and we were there for the NCAA tournament, but we kind of walked around and they had a store in the MGM Grand, for The Wizard of Oz and frank Baum. Moms like grandson was there signing he had written some, you know, adaptation of The Wizard of Oz and he was there, his grandson was there and he's like signing books and like, oh,
that's kind of cool. If the guy, you know, grandson the guy who what Wizard of Oz and I was like, hey, you know, like we bought a book on him to sign it and he's like oh you're from Indiana. Like you watch the Big Ten. Like I think I was gonna do against Drake and like just started immediately Hammer. Any questions of like, you think I hit the over under and like, it's like, wow, this is Vegas.
Like, I wanted to talk about the Tin Man and the Scarecrow and you're like, Be on point totals for like Iowa, Drake or whatever. So that was my fun Vegas thing but no, this is the long story. This is everybody's first time doing live betting with the tournament here in Indiana. Like I was able to do it in Vegas, but this is the first time I've ever going to be able to do it on my phone just watching the games here in Indiana.
So it's great. It's actually better than being in Vegas because I mean the phone you get up to the second, you know, lines and Bets. And I mean, it's it's slick. This is going to be a blast blessing, James, you've always done this. You've swept me up a couple times than the football season. What app are you using now? I mostly use better MGM. I still use Draft Kings, but fan do, I really only use when there's a, well, free money promo, like I'm getting tonight. Yeah.
