Episode description

James starts off with his thoughts on the IU vs Maryland game experience, ideas for ways to get the crowd pumped at Memorial Stadium between the 3rd and 4th quarters.  He then gives his thoughts about why Purdue might cover their spread, why not to bet the UCLA vs PSU game, why he’s taking an under in a game that doesn’t include Iowa, why Michigan could be a good upset pick on the money line.

Finally, James puts together a great set of bets to keep the Hoosier Hotstreak alive this week.

You're. Listening to the back. Home Network presented by Home Field Apparel All right folks, welcome back Crimson Cash. We are back. I got James with me real quick. Give a shout out to our sponsors. First off home field apparel. They have new pullovers which look awesome. As the kids would say they're fire. They're definitely not Sigma. They are fantastic. They have an Indiana one with the old Indiana script, the Oval on the sleeve. It looks fantastic.

Check them out. Check out all they have a whole collection, but usually look at the Indiana one and they're already they're already starting to sell out. So make sure you get on that like immediately use the promo code home 23 for 15% off your first purchase. And also Upland Brewery with their Crimson cat, Crimson cast, their Crimson logger, their Hoosier game day logger. It'd be great if they had a Crimson cast logger. I talked, I got to talk to upload about that there.

Who's your game day logger And the iconic red and white striped can. It's fantastic. You can find it Memorial Stadium for IE football games. Hopefully we'll see some up in Evanston this weekend with people invading whatever they're calling the temporary stadium there in Northwestern. But check out Hoosier game day. Logger from Upland Brewing Company and Upland Brewing Company reminds you to drink responsibly and go Hoosiers. James, we had a good week last week.

We did have a good week. We kicked off the Hoosier hot streak with a win. I know that was fun. Always good. Michigan tried to make that way more interesting than it needed to be. I know, but they were able to hold on and so that's good. And the Hoosiers did their part so. And boy did they ever. That was quite the experience of the game. Yeah, Tell me what what was your take on Galen? And I talked about it like Galen was in a good way, like almost glowing from his reaction to

that game. He had such a good time. I also had a fantastic time as a former, as a also fellow Hoosier fan who was a former fan of that game. Tell us your your view of it. I took my youngest son to the game with me. He is he is a freshman in high school. And so I was really worried about how he because he's not a huge football fan. So I was worried how he would react, but especially because we're in the rain most of the day and he was wet.

But he was a trooper and he had a lot of fun and the crowd was great and everybody around us was great. So he had a, he just had a blast. And, you know, it was, it was cool. The crowd was great. I mean, the atmosphere was excellent. If it hadn't have been rainy, it would have been a perfect football day. So, you know, it's one of those things where, you know, I mean, yeah, the rain sucked, but the fans stayed. Everybody was loud and engaged. That was pretty cool.

Yeah, I'm excited to see what N Nebraska brings. There are some things they can do to change up the experience. I hate, I hate doing the the Gator Chomp thing. Fred Glass introduced that. I believe back in the day we just get rid of that. That has nothing to do with IU. I don't playing the Jaws theme, not a fan of that. First down March they've done forever. They used to do the Godfather theme. I always like that they need to bring that back somehow.

But fourth quarter, OK, the third quarter to the fourth quarter, you know, I heard you and Galen talking about this. You know, Camp Randall has jump around, you know, different, different places have their thing. Here's my idea. I love it. OK, If it's a night game or, you know, whatever, it would be great to dim the lights. But then you get a big if just the smell with the rock is cooking and then a bunch of like, you know, air raid sirens and the purge noise and all that

shit. And then boom, dead silence. And it starts to Stay by Lisa Loeb and the Nine Stories, which is a very slow and quiet song, But it would it it plays on the fact that we should stay for the fourth quarter. And it is one hell of a sing along tune. Somebody on Twitter I saw recommended that and I thought it was a fantastic idea. I really do like the do you smell with a raucous cooking line. That's, that's a good call. I like this.

We're crowdsourcing between the 3rd and the fourth quarters. I like, I like what you're coming up with. I think it's a good start. Wayne Johnson may want some money for that or somebody may want some money for that, so I don't know. But you know, I think we could get away with it. I I agree. I mean, he's not that big. I'll I'll let him beat you up first. You you go at him first. I could take him. Yeah, I'm sure you could.

Real quick. The right now, the tickets left available for the Nebraska game, there are 5800 tickets still available. So let's let's get those sold out immediately. That needs to be a sell out. There's no no other reason at this point. Yeah, and if it's sold out, it'll be because Farmer Joe from Kearney drove in. So yeah. All right, let's get to our our, our weekly picks. We will. We're going to, you know, start with the Hoosiers. No, let's hit them for last like

usual, OK? We will start with the Friday night game, Michigan State going to Oregon. Oregon is a 23 1/2 point favorite. Yeah, I've gone back and forth on this one. I some makes me want to take Michigan State here in all those points, but I've also got a feeling a Friday night game is going to be pretty hype in Oregon and Michigan State is not prepared for a team like this. They just lost to Ohio State by what, 31? And I don't see any reason they wouldn't lose by 24 or more to Oregon.

Oregon's only covered this once this year, but that was against Oregon State, who we know is better than Purdue. You know, So, I mean, they're not a horrible football team. I will reluctantly lay the points here, but I would like to have it at a better number. OK, Next up we have Purdue, our beloved friendly Boilermakers, going to the Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin is a 13 1/2 point favorite. This was 14 this morning, so this is gone down a little bit.

That being said, it's still a pretty big spread for a conference game in Wisconsin. Has no great shakes, although Purdue things have gone off the rails in West Lafayette and they just fired their offensive coordinator. They did, which generally in my experience means the next game the offense usually does OK, OK, I I don't know why, but for some reason that I always think that. So I'm going to take the boilers

plus the points here. I'd rather get them at two touchdowns that may go back up to it before kick. So if you're going to do that, get the extra point or half point. Weekend of big lines continues. We have the UCLA Bruins at Penn State. Penn State is a 27 1/2 point favorite. My God. There is no way on earth that Penn State is the seven best team in the country. I just refuse to believe it. They are not that good.

Every year they're ranked in the top 10 and it feels like again this year like feels like they have 12 home games, just like everything always seems to be at home for Penn State. They play nobody until they meet Ohio State and Michigan and they lose. That's what they do every year, you know, they they fatten up their schedule, beating up on the Indiana's Marylands and Rutgers of the world. And here they've got UCLA, who we know is very bad 4 touchdowns. I mean Penn State probably

covers this. I would take UCLA plus the points just because it's a it's a noon Saturday. I mean this whole thing is just screwy over under 46 1/2. I don't know. I mean don't bet this game, people. I. Love it, Penn State. Wins. But by how much I mean it. They could win by 21. They could win by 34. Why? Why risk it? You don't care about this game. Next up you have Iowa at Ohio State. Ohio State is a 18 1/2 point favorite.

I will also note this is not one of the lowest over unders of the week, so Ohio State is really dragging this up over under 45 1/2. Do you know why this is? What not one of the lowest over unders of the week? Why? I know there's. Let me look at the other ones. Oh, I know that. I'll tell you why, because your Iowa Hawkeyes are four and O over under this year. They've gone over the total in four games and Ohio State has gone over in three of their four. I do like the over here a lot.

I also like Ohio State to cover this. OK. I think the over is probably the better play, but you can get this for as low as 18 1/2 on FanDuel, so I I like the Buckeyes there. Next up we have Rutgers Quietly 4 and O like what? What's funny is they are also four and O and they, they, they have a pretty easy schedule too. But it's like Indiana's taking all the shine of this, like, you know, team is really off to a great start, which I like. So just keep it going.

But they are at Nebraska. So maybe we'll see what we have in store for us in three weeks, 2, two weeks, I mean, 2 1/2 weeks anyway, bye week and then we play Nebraska. Nebraska's at home. They are a 6 1/2 point favorite against Rutgers. We've got some really good games this week, but I'm very excited to see this is one of them. Nebraska's defense is going to have to try and stop that

running game that Rutgers has. I think they will probably do that and then Rutgers defense is going to have to stop there. There, as they call him, young Patrick Mahomes, which is the. I know. I actually like the under here at 40 1/2. I do think this will be one of those defensive showdowns. Nebraska and Purdue were scoreless at the half last week before Purdue just gave up

points at a amazing clip. So I like the under here at 40 1/2 too, which since I like the under, I'm going to take 6 1/2 points. So give me Rutgers plus those points. Next up, USC going to Minnesota. Minnesota is an 8 point underdog at home. Yeah, home team getting over a touchdown. I don't think Minnesota's going to fall apart like Wisconsin did

against USC last week. Wisconsin put it pretty tough and then they just kind of like it was over and USC was able to dominate, whereas Minnesota last week was able to come back against Michigan. Minnesota's got a good line offensive line. They should be able to control the ball a little bit. I think eight points is a real little too rich for my blood, so I'm going to take the home team plus those points. My God, what a difference 8

months makes. We have a rematch to the national championship, but it's different now. We have Michigan at Washington. Neither of them are quite, I think, where they want to be, but Washington is a 2 1/2 point favorite over Michigan. Very interesting here. That's a that's. A really interesting line. A lot of these lines come out, you know, months in advance and stuff. Yeah, this is one of those. Michigan, when it first came out, was an 8 1/2 point favorite. So we've come a long way.

I'm guessing a lot of that is because their offense is kind of sputtering, right? But they, you know what they can do? They can run the football. Do you know what Washington can't do? Stop the run. Stop the run. So I don't think that bodes well for the Huskies. Give me Michigan in an upset here, I'll take him on the money line. Oh. OK, that worked out well for you last week. Barely. So all right, last up, we are going to go with let me get my sounds ready.

We have, oh, where's the cat sound? Here it is, Indiana, your 23rd ranked Indiana Hoosiers 5 and O going into Northwestern to play the Northwestern Wildcats. Northwestern is a 13 1/2 point underdog at home, Indiana getting 13 1/2 points. Let's go. Let's go. Indeed. I will take the Hoosiers and I'm going to lay those points. I think that they're going to roll in this game. Now, Northwestern has a very good defense, so I don't know how many points the Hoosiers will score.

The over under team total is at 27 1/2 for IUI. Think that they probably score over that, but this could be a 27 to 13 situation. So I'm not prepared to take the over 27 1/2 team total, but I do think that's a good bet. I definitely think the Hoosiers -13 1/2, they'll cover that. I, I think this should be one of those games they might be able to pull a shutout or keep Northwestern in single digits.

So I don't think they're going to have to score nearly as many points to cover that spread because Northwestern's offense is pretty immobile and the Hoosiers have been pretty good at slowing teams down. Northwestern has nothing like the attack Maryland had last week. So we're going to see a much lower scoring game aside from what the Hoosiers can provide. Keeping in mind this Hoosier team is averaging a crazy amount of points per game.

I think it's like 40 something points per game and the over under of this game is at 41 1/2. Yeah. So so IU may hit that by themselves. I mean, that's highly possible if they even though they do their average, this is probably the best defense they've seen all year though. I think this defense is probably better than Maryland's, but I think this is going to be able to cover this. I agree. I also think, you know, last week Indiana looked good, but

they didn't look good to start. They were, you know, two interceptions by Curtis Rourke early. I, I, I think that they want, you know, I'm sure knowing the way that Signetti coaches, that he's been very vocal to the team about that and about their bad start in the turnover. And I think Rourke is going to want to have a good game, you know, put a good game down. So I, I just, I see the offense being very crisp and wanting to get some stuff done.

So I agree with you. I can see them covering that 30, which is wild to say on the road, but I could see them covering a 13 1/2 point spread on the road. It was 10 1/2 when it came out. I I wished I would have bet it when I right when I saw that I didn't and. I did have that posted on X for for anybody out there listening. It's like, man, I need to, I need to get these lines before

they get moving. Yeah. Although I must say every time I do that it always moves the other way on me so I always get screwed. All right, now it's time for YEAH. It's pretty simple. I win. Google me. We got the who's your hot streak Week 2? So real quick refresher, we'll get everybody there. They'll they'll get to know the rules. Basically, James has got to pick Indiana a bet, primarily Indiana money line win, but he can pick

any bet on the Indiana game. And then he's got to stack a second bet with it. And then if he wins like we did last week, if you're listening yet, Indiana money line, Michigan money line, it won. So now we're going to stack one more on top of it. So it's like a Jenga tower. We just keep stacking or I guess Jenga, you take stuff off, but it's it's like a tower. We keep jacking. We keep stacking cups, I guess would be the analogy until it all falls down and we start up again.

But we'll see if we can get week #2 in the books with a win. So only Big 10 games. You got to pick Indiana in some form or fashion. You got to pick that Indiana game. And then you got to add two other games, Ideally all money lines. James, the floor is yours. All right, Ideally all money lines becomes tough because we were getting no return on value when I was running the numbers. So what we've done this week is we're taking some, we're buying some points here off the

spreads. All right, So you go in, you go to game lines, you go to alternate game. No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You're making this too hard. No, no, no. You're making this too hard, man. Well, you won't win any money either if if you don't. OK, OK, OK. It was either that or you get like, you know, negative, you know, 200 odds and who wants that? You know that'll. Be fair enough. Fair enough. So hear me out. All right, here's what we got. This is no, this is crazy, all right?

IU -5 1/2. That's that's what we're basing all this off of, right? I think we easily cover that. You won't have to worry. All right, we're going to add on to that. Ohio State -9 1/2, that's 10 points lower than the spread is set at conservative there. And then Oregon, we're going to do the same thing. We're going to take 10 points off that spread, and we're going to take Oregon -13 1/2. That gives us three games under key numbers there where we've bought down points over a

touchdown. You combine all three of those together, you're going to be a + 150 odds, OK. I like it you you've gone off the radar. I thought we were just doing money line point spread or over unders You you've added a whole new layer to the Hoosier hot streak. But. I I like winning money and I think this is a better way to win money, OK. OK, No, no, no, that's that's how to do it. I've not actually delve much into the buying points, so I will dig into that.

So in the app you just go in and just. When you go to your game and it has all your best laid out for you, right? Grab King FanDuel wherever you're at. It'll have game lines or alternate game lines. It depends what they call it and, or alternate spreads. And so that's just what you'll choose. And so you'll just, you know, it'll have a little slider and you'll choose the point spread

you want. And so in this case, you'll just go to 13 1/2, nine and a half, five and a half, and you just pick those and build your parlay that way. OK. No, no, it's, it's all within the rules. I like it. And we're, we're building as we're going, we're building this ship as the ship is going across the Big 10. One game, there's a Friday night game, so I'm hoping people are getting to the podcast before Saturday morning this week. I'm going to put this up right now.

It is Thursday at 4:18. We'll put it up quickly. So we have Indiana. Go over it again, you got Indiana. -5 - 5. And a half Ohio State -9 1/2 and Oregon -13 1/2. That is correct. OK. And you get all that. You get plus 150 odds. And then the Hoosier hot streak goes for another week. I think we got a good shot here.

I think this is a good one. I I look, we could have done just money lines, you know, but that's not going to make you any money and we don't want to, you know, and we don't want something stupid to happen and you to accidentally lose money. So we're going for it here. I'm with you, I'm with you. I like it. I was you caught me off guard, but I like it. It's good stuff. I'm also debating. We'll see if I do this. Well, if you're watching this on YouTube now, you'll know that we

did. I'm thinking about you know, Galen puts all of our podcasts on YouTube. I've not been primarily putting this on YouTube. I'm asking you live, are you cool with us putting it on YouTube? And how do you think Galen's going to be all right with watching you smoke off your vape pen halfway through the pod? Is he going to be cool with? It well why do we wait till next week then to put it on YouTube? OK. I'll get all pretty for the camera too all. Right.

So all right, next week we'll start putting these on YouTube. Our our YouTube numbers are actually really good. So I think we got to start putting these on YouTube as well. All right, we can do that. So for those of you who have not been watching, it's a lot of James vape penning between every between every single discussion. And and scrolling my action app to to look at the lines and notes I've made. I'm so excited for what you're going to look like next week. Like you're going to be all

dapper. Like, are you going to wear a hat and a suit and tie? Like what are we going to? Get a whole deal. Yeah. All right. Very good. We are also. So we're starting to play a little bit with some sounds here. We're going to try and have a sound for every Big 10 team when they're playing at home. So, so James and I've been talking, we have a couple in our minds. But I would say if you have ideas for sounds like we're,

we're using the cat sound. So we have the cat sound for Northwestern. I have one for the Rutgers. I think we have UCLA and USC nailed down. But I'm I'm up for options on those. I think every other school we're kind of we're in need of something. So if you have ideas out there, hit James up on Twitter. He's on there more than I am. It's Crimson cast 260. Although I'm I'm checking it every so often. I'm Crimson cast 317.

Hit us up with some ideas on sounds that we can play for each school as we're going through the the lines each week. Yeah, and they should be something funny slash derogatory towards the school. That's kind of what I'm looking for. Yeah, yeah. Like that's what I like it. It came up last week. We were talking about we should have The Sopranos theme playing behind Rutgers games. So that's going to be Rutgers. Like I have The Sopranos theme. We're just going to play that

behind the games. We're talking about Rutgers and they're at home. So that that kind of genre of of thought process I think is what we're looking for. But we'll organically build it and we'll doesn't need to be all next week. Just with over the next probably year or two, we'll we'll slowly find stuff and we'll add it. It's like a the bobble head collection or the stuff, the collection of stuff on Pat Mcafee's desk. It didn't just start there. It's like you slowly add things

here and there. Yes, and and while that was supplied by fans of the show too, so same. Same here. Yep. All right, James, anything else you want to you any other part ways you want to throw out there? Are you good? Follow me on X, I'll be posting what I got going on there. And then are you, are you going to the Nebraska game? I will not be at the Nebraska game. The next one I got tickets for is Washington or no Michigan. OK. OK, you're just coming for the big boys.

I had to, well, I chose the mini package and so you had to pick four games. And so it's like you had to either pick homecoming or the bucket game and you had to pick Michigan or Washington. And so I I chose the bucket game. Do you think we will be undefeated when you see the Hoosiers next in in the Rock? Yes. I love it. I kind of do too. I kind of do, too. I think we'll be undefeated heading to Columbus, quite honestly. I think that's very possible too. So all right, James, good times.

We will get this up now because we have people who need to start getting bets in to get the Hoosier Hot Streak going. And by the way, if you're betting the Hoosier Hot Streak, tag us on Twitter, tag James, tag us, do #Hoosier Hot Streak and let's see if we can. I don't want to make it a trend. Let's see if we can get two people tag us. That's that's before just a couple people. We can all. The whole idea is we're in this together. We're going to win together.

Have some fun and do it week by week. James, as always, a pleasure having you on. For everybody out there listening, it's always a great time. Thank you for listening and supporting the pod. So for Crimson Cash, this is Scott signing off.
