You're listening to the Back Home Network presented by Home Field Apparel. All right, folks, welcome back to Crimson Cast. Scott here with you with another episode of Crimson Cash. Before we get going on that want us to give a shout out to well of course, you know home field apparel, proud sponsor of a Crimson cast and the entire home network, just some always great stuff on the home field pulling up right now. I talked about Boston they have a really good you know UCLA shirt.

I'm I'm looking at it now. You know we just I'm going to talk to James here in a second give him a minute to talk about Bob Knight. But they have a really nice Texas Tech women's basketball 1993 National champion shirt and I saw just see Texas Tech and I think of night it was funny last night there was all of these obviously tributes going on and it's like you know Ohio State obviously gives tribute Texas Tech and it's weird I felt like a sense of ownership of of

night. It's like you don't you don't get to do that but it's the heat. They have a relationship with him too. But you can you can support, you know there's with a lot of Texas Tech gear out there in in Bloomington in the mid 2000s, but you can support it with home field. Use a promo code HOME 23 to get 15% off your first purchase. Been a while James, been a week man. How you doing? Doing great. Just had a futures bet on the Rangers pay off so looking good.

I I picked him up at plus 232 earlier in the playoffs so was happy to see Texas get their first World Series. Good for them. Good for them. I watched. I I used to love baseball and I just. I watched none of the playoffs this year. Just. Oh, it was a fantastic playoffs. Fantastic. So you you went to IU, you live in the state of Indiana. I want to give you a chance to kind of you know as we run through our our Crimson Cast crew here.

Do you have any Bob Knight thoughts, stories, or or things you want to share? Well, I was going to school down there when he was let go, and I actually ended up outside Assembly Hall with a bullhorn in my hand at one point. That I'd grabbed from somebody some other troublemaker and I ended up getting like quoted in the newspaper. You know I was I was honked off obviously and and it was it was really wild. I remember Galen was like reporting the mobs of students just going around campus.

A couple had stolen like a fish from shoalwater fountain because coach was a big fisherman so they wanted to bring it to assembly all. It was just the wildest thing and. And so that is the first thing that I think about because I was like there and that's indelible. And the second thing I think about is how much I freaking know about basketball because of that guy I used to watch the the show and I would always be interested in like how the

motion offense worked. And like my knowledge at the game of basketball was much better for years of having listened and watched. So those are the kind of two things I think about. I mean, he is basketball in this state, you know I mean. Do you think the the great icons of Indiana basketball, it's like him and Slick Leonard are probably one and one a right? I mean, that's it. So, I mean, we've lost both of them in the last few years. So who's going to take that mantle?

You know who's going to be the next 1M? Woodson may not be around forever, but he's got a chance to do something special and I I think it's great. They're going to honor him this year with patches on the uniforms, which I think is absolutely appropriate. Agreed. I I I talked to him once, ever, and I was afraid to say anything. I said hey coach, hope you guys do great this year or something stupid like that. And he just gave a little hand gesture and walked his giant frame away.

I'm a big guy and I don't feel small around many people. I felt small seeing him in person. He was a huge dude. So just some random thoughts there. Yeah. No. And I, I mentioned that last night on the pod, you know, I was a GAIL and I took his class together. I was in a couple press conferences with him. And then just living in Bloomington, he bumped into him a couple times here there around town. And it's it just it it it's imposing, like he's just, he was imposing.

He had a presence and he commanded attention. When you when you met him and talked to him. The the one story I didn't share last night, that one of my best friends, Tom, who I grew up with in Bloomington, he and I went to one of those Indiana classics like it was an assembly hall, one of those little two game tournaments where you play two teams in two days and the crowd was like, that's The funny thing, People look back on those. You know, this is early. This is probably like 9293.

Like people look back. It's like, oh you know, like students always like students didn't show up then. Like the place was half full. Like it Assembly Hall wasn't always always full all the time. So my buddy and I, we snuck down to the to the main level, the court level, and we're like 3 rows behind the IU bench and night just starts ripping Allen Henderson. Like you think that shit's going to work in the Big 10. Like it's not going to work.

You can't, you can't do it against again, Eastern Carolina. How are you going to do it against Minnesota? And Buddy, Tom was like, yeah, Alan, how you going to do it? And night just like pops up, looks at us and it's like terrifying because we're like, too, Like I was like a freshman or an eighth grade. We were just like punks just

screwing around. And it's like, but he he he looked at you like, Oh my God. Because like it's this like, you know he's yelled at the crowd like this is like the the, the Rudy sign he took out of the crowd. Like I mean with him it's like he could stop the game and just yell at me and make me run Like I don't know what's he just and then like went back to Allen and walked off and it's just like that moment of like oh I pissed off night like oh God, mess this up. Yeah it's it's weird James.

It's affecting. I think I'm thinking about it more like last night I was reading everything. I was watching stuff. I was kind of look flipping through Twitter, you know, today I've been thinking about it like talking to some other people to it's just it's affecting me more than I was expecting. Someone who you know, I had a peripheral relations like I knew Bobby, I wasn't calling him here

and there. I didn't know Coach Knight, but it's like just didn't realize how much of an imprint he had on me and just how much he's connected with my youth growing up. It's just it's almost like losing, kind of like an uncle you don't see. That often yeah. It it it does have that feeling I, I, I, I get what you're saying you know when these celebrity. Deaths happen. You know, you may be a musician or something.

You know, you can go and you can listen to their music or whatever and you're like, oh, OK, you know, you know, with this, it's been weird. I've been watching BTN all day and even replaying old games and and clips and interviews and it's just, you know, it's just been interesting. It's affected me more than most of the celebrity deaths that I can think of a 100% same. And I've a lot of the stories you've heard before. The one that I I either had.

I mean I'm old. I may have heard it and forgot it but I I heard again that just cracked me up was you know before the 1984 draft. It's a great story about about night coaching Michael Jordan and like the setting the screens and just go go search that on YouTube. It's very it's you'll find it's one of the the top videos on there. But there's a story where after the the Olympics Jordan called the the Trail Blazers and was like you know I I know Houston's going to going to draft Elijah

one like. But you have to draft Michael Jordan like he is the best player I've ever seen. And I guess the Blazers were like came back and like yeah. But we need really need a center like we have. We have Clyde. We really need a center. And Knight was like, OK, draft Michael Jordan and play him at center. Like problem solved. He's like draft Michael Jordan, like play him at guard. Play him at forward. Play him at center like draft him and play him and then they didn't.

So I just. I thought that I love that line of like, yeah, great draft him and then play him at center. I saw. Something similar to that where he called Art Modell and told him to hire Bill Belichick as a head coach. Yeah, so I guess that didn't work out so well, but nobody works out very well in Cleveland. Also, the Izzo was on Big 10 Network and had a great story like the the year that Michigan

State won the title. He was saying that after they beat Indiana in Assembly Hall, Knight called him into the office. And so that's 2001 they or 2000 they won or 2001 anyway. So it must have been nights last year and he called him in and and Izo said that he like sat him down and was like you have a team that can win the title And

then gave him like 4 things. Like you need to watch out for these three or four things that'll happen between now and the final four and Izo's like goddamn if those all those things like happened and it was a good thing. He mentioned I don't know it's yeah, I'm like, yeah, I've been watching BTN all day. I just, I wish BTN would have like rename stuff because like I have YouTube TV and I couldn't.

I had to record like random volleyball games and like do a season recording of Big 10 like all the stuff I don't want to like because like I just couldn't record the stuff because they didn't rename it. It was like all of my in my in my my view it was like they hadn't redone it yet. And part of me is like could you guys just waited like why not just do this on Sunday like after you know the the day

before after football. Like why do you have to do it like at, you know, 2:00 AM the night he dies? Like give him a true send off. Yeah. Anyway, I got one more. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Nobody has told you so. I had a buddy who worked at Marsh down in Bloomington, and apparently the coaching staff would go like, into some backroom and just get deli food brought into them. Like, you know, they have like, the hot food at the deli, you know, fried chicken and whatnot.

And they. And so one of his jobs was bringing the deli food to the coaching staff. And his grandma had told him to say something to Coach Knight about AJ Guyton need to play better defense or something like that. And and so he, he did it, you know, thinking well, this will be funny, you know, And and Bob Knight looked, Henry goes, and he said something. I don't want to screw this up. But he said. So will you tell your grandma she's got a good eye?

Because I've been trying to do that the last three fucking years. So that's that's one you probably won't see because it's a very unique anecdote. But but, you know, I mean, just kind of jacking around, you know, having fun, eating lots of deli food. Yeah, a good life right there. Well that's and that's the thing we talked about last night is like he was so funny like so

quick witted, so funny. Anyway we'll we'll keep the the tributes will keep coming It's like it's just it's I it's like what I I need to get focused on. It's like all I'm thinking about anyway let's let's get to football. So do we have to man like grease your 20 minutes on on on night stories and not talk football. All right, first first game. I have a great line for it. We'll start. Let's start. I want to start with a game. Let's do it. I love this game.

Our new favorite team is playing our old adopted team when the Washington Huskies visit the University of Southern California Trojans. And Washington is a three-point favorite. I love the Huskies to cover here. Love them, love them, love them, love them, love them to cover here. The over under of this game is 76 1/2. Would you take the over? So I would. Definitely take the over. It's a wild number, but you'd still take the over, right? I probably would, but I'm going

to stay away from that for now. I might be drunk by the time the kickoff rolls around on that and cost a few bucks on it, but I love Washington to cover this three points here. OK, so you get to root for panics, you get to root for points, and I think you're going to end up pretty happy because Southern Cal is trash. Their trash, Their defense is pretty bad. I think. Their. Defense is trash. Speaking of trash, let's start in the Big 10. I mean a couple of trash home teams.

We'll start. Here we have Michigan State, Nebraska, the Cornhuskers at Michigan State. Michigan State is a three-point underdog at home. What a what a bad sign for Nebraska if you're only a three-point favorite at Michigan State A-Team, that's like having a complete dumpster fire of a season. Like all you can get is 3 points. But that's what it is and it's actually it's gone up. It opened at 1 1/2. They are now 3 point favorite. So they're getting a little bit more respect.

But where? Where do you like this one, James? You're right. This is a sad day for Nebraska, right? I mean, and they just handled Purdue at home and they handled the Boilers. So I'm going to take the Huskers to cover here. I don't like it more than a field goal, but I'll, I'll take them to cover here. Probably get a push. Other trash. Let's go to. This Big 10 slate is dreadful this week. I know. So Ohio State, Rutgers, I think Ohio State is a 18 1/2 point

favorite. The over under is 42 1/2. They got to do half of it on their own. What do you think? What do you think here? Ohio State covers 18 1/2 at Rutgers. When I first looked at this, I immediately thought, well, OK, Rutgers has had a week off to prepare for Ohio State because they had a buy last week. This is a huge home game for them, and Ohio State should be able to handily get through

Rutgers, right? But then I thought to myself, how the fuck is Rutgers going to move the ball in Ohio State? Fairpoint, they're not going to average 4 1/2 yards to carry against that defense, I can tell you that. Which means they're going to be forced to throw the football and. They're not very good at that either, so I'm not sure Rutgers is going to be able to score

many points. I think they will try and take the air out of the football, but if you're going 3 and outs, you're not going to be able to do that successfully. So give me the Buckeyes to cover. All right. Still on the trash train we have Wisconsin at IU. I mean, thing is you I used played Wisconsin really well. No, wait, no, they don't. They always get throttled by Wisconsin. Every single year Wisconsin comes in as a nine and a half point favorite. Is this, you know, two weeks

ago. Obviously the line is reflective of what we're seeing. Two weeks ago. It's like that would have been like not even I wouldn't even ask you. I said all right, you're taking Wisconsin the points. They showed some life last week against Penn State. Do you think that's enough to make you feel like IU could stay within nine and a half of Wisconsin? Do you like IU Money Line? What are you thinking here, man? Do you think Penn State knew there was a football game last Saturday?

Because I'm not quite sure. They knew there was a football game last Saturday. And if it wasn't for two boneheaded defensive mistakes on their part there, that's a completely different game, right? I mean. Guys don't get that wide open and should never get that wide open and they did it twice. So I think this is a gift from the betting gods here getting 9 1/2 on this. So give me the Badgers to cover.

I think they cover this handily. I know it's the tough question because it kind of depends on how things are going. But Wisconsin gets up 7 to nothing. Like I'm trying to what the question I'm trying to ask you is like how high of a live line do you continue? Like do you go in on this worth, like Wisconsin scores in the live line goes to 13. Do you bet into that? Like do you do you take it up to 20? Like, at what point are you done live betting this game?

I usually go by the eye test OK so it's a lot of gut feel for me now. I know where the pre the pre kick lines are. Usually if I'm going to be live betting a game, I always look at what the pre kick lines were. And just see where there's maybe some value to be had. So that's the first thing I do. But a lot of it's just eye test.

So I mean it Wisconsin gets out and they have a, you know, 8 play 75 yard drive where you know, five runs, three pass and they just everything is looking juicy and the line goes to 13. Yeah, I'll probably jump on that 13. Because it quite frankly, I think that's where this line should have been, 13 1/2 somewhere around there. So I think you're actually getting some points already on Wisconsin. S&P projections have this Wisconsin like 25 or something or 22.

It's like I think it's over 3 touchdowns for sure. So this seems like an odd one to me. It does. It's just a question of, you know, can is Wisconsin going to have offensive problems also? But nine and a half seems a little bit too respectful for Indiana. All right. We'll move on. Oh James, James, I'm so sorry you can't bet an over under with me here with you. We have Iowa at Northwestern N Iowa is a 5 point favorite going in to Evanston. The over under is 30 1/2.

That's that's that's by the way there's a line this week coming up Michigan's line that they have more points to cover. This entire over under is it's just a wildly low over under. So yeah, 30 1/2 over under. We can talk about it. You just can't bet it. And Northwestern has a 5 point underdog at home. It is the lowest total in the history of college football. Is it? Is this it? Yep, this is it. And Iowa, once again setting another record because the previous ones were also Iowa games.

They should put that up in Kinnick. It's it's it's the second time this year they've had the lowest total in a football game. So here we go. I like the Wildcats to cover. I like the Wildcats on the money line. Oh, nice. I like it. I'm getting nuts on this game, I think. Hold on, we'll do a. There you go. This Northwestern team, scrappy, they've They just beat Maryland. I mean, do you like them to do enough to get the over? 30 1/2 is so low.

I mean, I know. I mean, I'm not saying you should go and rush and bet Northwestern money line, but getting five points when the total is 30 1/2 is significant. Yeah. So getting those points is nice, but I think Northwestern might just outright win this. I think the total goes over. But I don't say that with any confidence and I will not be betting it. I I might just throw a couple bucks on just for fun. But yeah, that's that's a ridiculous. Line new new OC for the Hawkeyes.

Yes. Yeah, not related. All right. Illinois at Minnesota. Minnesota is a two point favorite at home against the Illini A. Few weeks ago, I would have taken the Illini here. But I think Minnesota's figured a few things out offensively. Of course playing Michigan State does that for you, so give me the go first to cover a small line here at home. Penn State, who as you said, like 2 plays changed that entire game. But you still had a touched, you still had an interception.

And yet Indiana. Had they decided to run any kind of aggressive offense could have really made Penn State in a tough spot. Like they they got out of there with a really close win. Like they lose that game to Indiana and it is like it's bad times. But they won. They're seven and one at Maryland. Maryland is a 8 1/2 point underdog at home. If Tom Allen weren't a gutless coward, how you could have won that game? Agreed. So I'm just going to leave that there. Penn State did get lucky.

They got real lucky. And I think they're going to take it out of Maryland. Maryland seems to have absolutely collapsed. No kidding. No kidding. They got crushed when they got crushed at Ohio State and then losing to Northwestern. I mean, this is this is not a great Maryland team. Penn State didn't look great to me either, But I think that defense will be able to shut down what they want to do

offensively for the most part. I think they'll definitely clean up the issues in their secondary and they should be able to run on Maryland, so I like Penn State to cover 9. All right, Next up, another huge line for Michigan. Purdue is at Michigan. Michigan is a 32 1/2 point favorite at home. Yeah, quick thought on Michigan here. Does anybody other than Ohio State fans give a shit about this stupid sign stealing thing?

Yes. Michigan State fans, because my neighbor, who's a Michigan State fan, is like, will not stop talking about it. And it's like, this is a nothing burger. Like it's just I'm like there's nothing here. And then what's even funnier is for Halloween, he dressed up as Harbaugh with a scout team like he had. Like the Michigan See, put an M on his sweatshirt, wrote Scout on the back, and had like the binoculars. Like I'm stealing plays.

But it's like, dude, you just dressed up as hardball, like you're a Michigan State fan dressing up as hardball. And he like, there's another Michigan State guy in the neighborhood. So he goes to the house and the guy's like, doesn't know him. He's like, I don't want hardball on my lawn. He's like, no, I'm not hardball. I'm the guy stealing signs. He's like, oh, what? And it's like, it's like it's like this is not as big of a I'm with you. It's. I think Michigan State fans are into it.

I think Ohio State fans are. I think the rest of us are like, I don't. I don't think it's a big deal. I didn't know it was illegal. Yeah, go to another team's game and watch. I had no idea that was against the rules. It seems really stupid. It does. But I talked to like, you know, Robert from Michigan State, He's like, oh, there's like hard drive, like it starts to become like, you know.

I don't want to get political. Like, it turns into like you start talking like some of them Benghazi and it's just like you start getting all this, like deep, like deep state stuff like, Oh no, there's a hard drive. And like, he knew and like, it's it's like, all right, man, I Who cares? Like, we're paying players. Let's get over it. Like, whatever. But now I played baseball back in the day. You change your signs regularly, right? Even literally, we would change our signs.

Like, if, you know, I mean, that's just what you If these guys aren't changing their signs, that's their problem, you know? I mean, remember that stupid giant, like, faces or placards that Kevin Wilson would have people holding up? Yep. Yeah. Wonder if he figured that system out. That was probably an unbreakable system like Navajo Code Talkers. Anyway, Michigan will cover 32 1/2. Points. Oh, you think so? That's it. Oh, God, yes. Oh, Oh yeah.

I think. Actually, I think Purdue might be as bad as Indiana. I I give you this one exemption, I will let you bet the Iowa over if you also bet Michigan to cover it. Like it's funny to have a team cover in Big 10 play. Have a team cover a 32 point spread. I'd have two teams, then go over, maybe go under a 30 point. I don't know how how you want to play it, but it's funny to have like 2 teams go under 30 and one just go over 32 on their own. I think it's going to happen.

All right. To the PAC 12. Well, we have you already got our Washington, USC game. That's it. Those are our those are that's our those are our two teams. Yeah, we don't have anybody else. We've got Beavers, Beavers and. Buffs we pick up Oregon, Oregon State, Oregon State, Colorado. That's right. That's right, Dion. I forgot because they've they've sucked for a while. All right, so Oregon State is that Colorado. Colorado is now a 13 1/2 point underdog at home.

Man, the shine is off the Dion Rose, as I've known for saying, I love the Beavers. Give me, give me Oregon State to roll here. They're going to run all over Colorado. OK. All right, so Beavers by by 13 1/2. I'm not going to say more of that. Give us your What's your parlay of the weekend? All right, so teaser the parlay of the weekend. We've got Wisconsin, which will make them 3 1/2 point favorites.

We've got Northwestern, which you'll be getting 11 points now, And we've got Washington, who will be getting three points at Southern Cal. OK, sounds good. Looking forward to it. We're getting getting to the home stretch, man. We're getting close to the end here. We got like three more. Three more weeks. Yeah. Something we should do, like maybe like a basketball preview podcast or something like that. Maybe when some lines start coming out for college basketball.

I like that. Let's do it, Yeah. Look at some futures and things like that. Do a Crimson cash special. Let's do that. I'll start looking at some futures and we'll do that. I like that. Awesome. All right, man. James, as always, a pleasure. And everyone else, thank you for listening. And for all of you out there, this is Scott for Crimson Cash signing off.
