62: The Stonewall Uprising
Episode description
Hello and welcome to Crime & Spirits, where your hosts teach you about true crime, spooky stories, and how to make a great cocktail.
Join us this week while we explore what happened during the Stonewall uprising.
In June of 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in NYC. Things did not go according to plan and police quickly lost control of the situation. Violence and chaos ensued over several days.
Once the uprising itself began to die down, the LGBTQ+ community concluded that it was time for some profound change to take place. This moment in time left a permanent mark on American history. What happened at Stonewall essentially birthed the gay liberation movement. The following year, on the first anniversary, many returned to Stonewall to celebrate the night (and the fight) that changed everything.
Join Bree & Suze while they dive into what led up to the uprising at Stonewall and why this group of people felt they had no other option than to fight back. Together we'll learn why Pride celebrations exist in the first place and why it's important to remember those who came before us.
For sipping along this week, we're mixing up a cocktail aptly named "Taste the Rainbow."
Not a drinker? That's okay! Make yourself some coffee or grab a bottle of water. It doesn't matter what you're sipping along with. We're just happy to have you here!
Come hang out with us on social media. This is where we post drink recipes and fun how-to videos!
