59: The Manson Family Murders: Part One
Episode description
Hello and welcome to Crime & Spirits, where your hosts, Bree & Suze (that's us!), teach you all about true crime, spooky stories, and how to make a great cocktail.
Join us this week while we dive into part one of the Tate/LaBianca Murders aka the Manson Family murders.
In the late 1960s, at the height of The Civil Rights Movement, Charles Manson "predicted" that the world's end was rapidly approaching. He claimed that an apocalyptic race war called Helter Skelter was going to erupt which would wipe out half the population. But things weren't moving at a pace that worked with Manson's personal timeline. So, he decided to speed things up a bit by instructing a handful of his family members to go out and kill affluent white people. He made sure to instruct them to make it look like The Black Panthers did it.
What was it that made Charles Manson so alluring? And how was he able to convince these young men and women to brutally murder people on his behalf? In part one we talk about how Charles Manson went from a petty thief to a cult leader and the first set of murders committed in the name of Helter Skelter.
For sipping along this week, we mixed up a cocktail aptly named "The Summer of Love."
