56: The Murder of Hae Min Lee & The Trial of Adnan Syed: Part Two

Join us this week while we wrap up this two-parter and dive into the trial of Adnan Syed. Last week we learned about Hae Min Lee, her relationship with Adnan Syed, and her untimely death. This week will be about the trials, the appeals, and Adnan's release from prison.

Hae was last seen leaving school on January 13, 1999. By that evening, her family reported her as missing. Over the next few months, local law enforcement did everything they could to try and locate Hae. Police ran into one dead end after another. One day, a man now known to the world as Mr. S had the misfortune of finding Hae's body in Leaking Park.

After Hae was found, the police received an anonymous tip which led them to dig a little deeper into Adnan and his alibi. One way they chose to do this was by pulling Adnan's cell phone records. This is how they eventually found Jay Wilds. You may remember that this guy turned out to be an essential component of this case. When it came time for the trial, Jay was the prosecution's star witness and practically their sole argument. Adnan was eventually convicted and sentenced to life in prison. But! He was very recently released. His conviction may still be intact, but as of this recording, he's a relatively free man. Join us to find out why!
