55: The Murder of Hae Min Lee & The Trial of Adnan Syed: Part 1
Episode description
Hello and welcome to Crime & Spirits, where your hosts, Bree & Suze (that's us!), teach you all about true crime, spooky stories, and how to make one hell of a good cocktail.
Join us this week while we dive into the murder of Hae Min Lee. On January 13, 1999, 18-year-old Hae Min Lee was reported missing by her family. Just under a month later, her body was discovered in a park. The police immediately look at her current boyfriend (a man named Don) and her ex: Adnan Syed. Adnan became the only suspect once police received an anonymous tip confirming their suspicions.
In 2014, the podcast "Serial" hit the airwaves and blew what we knew about this case out of the water. Suddenly, things weren't so black and white and we were left with more questions than answers. At the time of the publication of this episode, over 20 years later, Adnan and his defense team are still actively involved in the appeals process. As it stands, Adnan is out of jail, but still considered to be guilty of murder. During this episode, we will discuss the background of all those involved, Hae's disappearance, and how Adnan became a suspect in the first place.
For sipping along this week, we're making "A Black-Eyed Susan"; a cocktail inspired by the state flower of Maryland (our story took place in Baltimore).
So grab a drink and let's get into it! Not a drinker? That's okay! Make yourself some coffee or grab a bottle of water. It doesn't matter what you're sipping along with. We're just happy to have you here!
Come hang out with us on social media. This is where we post drink recipes and fun how-to videos!
