Episode description

Creating a character for a video game can seem like the pinnacle of design, but in games like Ghosts of Tsushima and Assasin's Creed, the world you inhabit, the environment makes the game. Imagine playing GTA and it is just some "Any City, USA", and you will see the importance of good environment design in video games. What does it take to really understand and succeed in environment design? On this episode we talk with artist and game designers Lourde Canavati, Maddie Christian, and Kuko Cai, all working on projects at AAA video game developers and hear how they bring video game environments to life through 3D modeling techniques, color, texture, shaders, and lighting to give the environment a finished look.
