Episode description

Small Island featured as part of the National Theatre's stay at home campaign and was available to watch for free on Youtube. It follows the story of two individuals caught up in the wind rush generation and how they navigated the racist terrain of 1940's Britain. Julia and Louis recall the elements of the production they most enjoyed and disliked, as well as engage in a conversation regarding the messages around racism that the production is trying to convey. This includes the attitudes of returning army veterans towards black people, and how black people who fought in the war were treated once they arrived in Britain.
