Citizens of Heaven Churchcitizensofheaven.church
Have you ever read the whole Bible or even avoided parts of it because they seemed confusing or difficult to understand? Would your hesitation change if you knew there was an overarching message throughout the Bible into which every person, event, and prophecy fits like a puzzle piece into a grand narrative? That is precisely what this course seeks to unpack, so that you are no longer confused or hesitant to read the Bible but instead are eager to jump in and study for yourself! We pray that the end result of this course will be each of you growing in your knowledge of God, His Word, and aiding your ability to live for and teach others about Him.

Week 7 - Death Before the Fall & Using the Bible to Interpret Science

We look at the most challenging theological issue in our journey to attempt to reconcile the Bible and science: death before the sin. We also spend time discussing various arguments that are proposed by "old Earth" advocates and examine how the scientific evidence that has been used to support an old Earth yields inconsistent results. We then show how that same evidence, when interpreted through the lens of the Bible, is consistent with and best explained by the Biblical account.

Week 6 - The Age of the Earth (Continued)

Week 5 - Effects of Sin & Age of the Earth (Continued)

We look at God's amazing grace in response to rebellion in the garden and His promise of a future "seed" of redemption who would ultimately defeat the crafty serpent. We then see more pictures of that grace in the judgment of the flood by preserving Noah and his family. Finally, we look at the "Gap" Theory and Progressive Creationism as methods attempted to be used to reconcile the Bible and science.

Week 4 - The Fall & Age of Earth

As we continue to study the Fall, we examine what led Adam and Eve to disobey God, what that tells us about the nature of sin, and the consequences of their sin by understanding God's pronounced judgments. We also begin the discussion on what Genesis teaches us about the age of the Earth and why that matters.

Week 3 - The Fall

We examine the alleged differences between Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 and how God's creation of woman from man plays a significant role in humans reflecting the image of God. We also begin to look at how God's kingdom was rejected during the Fall by studying the identity of the crafty serpent.

Week 2 - Creation

We learn how God establishes His Kingdom from the beginning of creation and discuss why the historical events told in the book of Genesis are so important in helping us answer pressing questions about life like: How did we get here? What is our purpose? In addition, we discuss God is the creator and ruler of all things and what it means for us to be created in His image.

Week 1 - Introduction

Why this course? That's the question we attempt to answer first. We will provide examples of how we all risk misunderstanding and misinterpreting passages of scripture if we don't first understand the message of the whole Bible. We also discuss how that understanding of the Bible is key to relating to the world we live in and even to understanding portions of the Bible that may seem confusing.
