Episode description

Justice.  It's one of those words that everybody throws around, but perhaps only rarely do we think about what we actually mean.  TV shows and pop culture use the word "justice" as a shorthand for getting even, getting revenge, or sending "bad guys" to jail.  But the chorus of voices in the Bible means something more when they say things like, "Let justice roll down like waters..." Maybe it's less about getting a required pound of flesh and more about restoring relationships that are out of balance--whether it's criminal acts of one person against another, or the ways we use and share our resources, or the ways we relate to the rest of creation.  Maybe in the end, justice is about more than punishment, but includes restoration, renewal, and healing of what is broken--both between us and within us.   So in this new series, starting here with an overview conversation, pastors Erica, Sarah, and Steve begin to look at the many ways people talk about "justice" and begin to stick our toes in the water before a deep biblical dive into the concept of justice, and how it has a lot in common with the way a body heals, the way hearbreaks are mended, and maybe even the ancient Japanese art of kintsugi to repair cracks in pottery with gold-infused lacquer.  Join us for what will surely be a thought-provoking series looking at a major theme of the Scriptures and of the Christian faith.
