Episode 25 - Wild Goose (the second) Week: Emily Joy’s poetic heart
Morgan’s fifth Wild Goose interview was with Emily Joy, an incredible poet who lives in Nashville. Emily grew up homeschooled in a fundamentalist family. She went to Moody Bible Institute where she was one of a handful of women to major in theology (in this decade). They discussed online feminism, intersectionality, and the importance of listening to your heart. Then Emily closed with her viral poem “How To Love the Sinner and Hate the Sin: Five Easy Steps.”
Episode 24 - Wild Geese (the second) Week: Bec Cranford speaks in tongues
Morgan’s fourth Wild Goose interview was with Bec Cranford, the volunteer director at the Gateway Center for homeless people in Atlanta. Bec is a heavily tattooed progressive Pentecostal wonder-woman. On the interview, she shared powerful stories of a tough life journey that has left her full of empathy. Everything was going well until she started speaking in tongues.
Episode 23 - Wild Geese Week: Brandan Robertson wanders and wonders
Morgan’s third Wild Goose interview was with Brandan Robertson, the author of 'Nomad: A Spirituality for Traveling Light.' His original book contract was rescinded when he came out as queer, so he had to republish with a UK publisher. Brandan was a fundamentalist street preacher in the Baltimore Inner Harbor at the age of 13. He went to Moody Bible Institute where he was almost expelled for doing a radio interview with Brian McLaren. It was refreshing to hear how little bitterness Brandan has fo...
Episode 22 - Wild Geese Week: Sarah Heath’s contagious love
Morgan’s second Wild Goose interview was with Sarah Heath, the pastor of First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa, California. Sarah’s pure, Christlike heart is contagious. She talked a lot about the beautiful, eclectic mix of people in her church and how sad she would be if the United Methodists decided to split.
Episode 21 - Wild Goose Week: Alicia Crosby expands the church
Morgan’s first Wild Goose interview was with Alicia Crosby, the co-founder and co-director of the Center for Inclusivity in Chicago. In our interview, she talked a lot about expanding the concept of church. She makes the point that while Jesus spent some time in the temple, most of where he did church was in people’s houses and on the streets. Alicia and Morgan also discussed what holiness looks like for an inclusive Christian and how the church should be responding to police violence against bl...

Episode 17 - Live Podcast: Pub Theology (Part 1)
Here's part 1 of our conversation at the Annual Conference of the Virginia Annual Conference of the UMC.
Episode 16 - David Fitch: Reclaiming the Gospel
Jason talks again with one of his favorite guests David Fitch of Northern Seminary and the Theology on Mission Podcast.
From the Vault: David Fitch
Here's an old interview with David Fitch from Teer and Jason's maiden podcasting effort several years ago. See how far we've come! We've got a brand new interview with David in the queue waiting for editing so be on the lookout.
Episode 15 - Fridays with Fleming: The Holy Spirit Bloweth Where It Will
If we are urged to have faith in Christ, who is doing the urging? Sorry ahead of time about Jason's office phone ringing. Johanna and Fleming call out bad preachers/sermon series too.
Episode 14 - Fridays with Fleming: "Maybe Somethings Shouldn't Be Forgiven"
Jason and Teer are joined by Johanna Hartelius as they check in with Fleming Rutledge. This is part 1 of a 2 part conversation. If you notice some sighs or scoffs, that's just Teer & Johanna noticing how much Jason is kissing up to Fleming.
Episode 13 - NT Wright: Still No 'Um'
Lucky episode #13. Here is part 2 of our conversation with NT Wright.
Episode 12 - N.T. Wright, Part 1 - He Never Says Um
This is part 1 of our conversation with N.T. Wright. We cover the New Perspective, Substitutionary Atonement, the historic accuracy of the Bible vs. the overarching story of the Biblical story, and America's divide along justification by faith & Kingdom building through a social agenda. Bishop Wright pushes back against Apocalyptic theology and America's obsession with proving the historical accuracy of Scripture. He believes we have been conned by the skeptics.
Episode 11 - Gnostics Are Better Than John Piper
Last week the Gospel Coalition posted a video describing the ‘mysterious’ ways God ordains tragedy to bring about ‘good'. This created a stir in Jason, and then in a weirder turn of events made Morgan semi-sympathetic to what position the GC presented. Listen in as Jason and Morgan hash it all out with Teer being the lone voice of reason.
Episode 10: Fridays with Fleming- Sin in the Hands of a Wrathful God
In part 2 of our conversation with Pastor Fleming Ruthledge we begin with God's wrath (we eased into this one didn't we?!?!) and wrap up with apocalyptic theology. Can you believe we made it to episode 10? We can't either!
Episode 9 - Fridays with Fleming (Rutledge): Preaching Against the Powers
In part 1 of a 2 part conversation with author & pastor Fleming Rutledge, the conversation began with some of the problems around the term "inclusion" and finished with the do's and don'ts of bad preaching.
Episode 8 - Jason Man-Crushing With Todd Littleton
Ever feel like the third-wheel on a date? Well that's how Teer must have felt during the recording of this C&GJ episode! Two out of the three members of the C&GJ team interviewed pastor, blogger, and podcaster Todd Littleton. The topics ranged from how good-looking Todd is to the prophetic role pastors play. Jason even had the tables turned on him and became the interviewee as Todd & Teer investigated how friendly pastors can be with their parishioners.
Episode 7 - Tony Jones is Stangely Warmed
An early consultant in this podcast, Tony Jones is a theologian and church self-described church proctologist. Teer & Tony had a chance to catch up and discuss the United Methodist quadrennial gathering, Progressive Christianity, and even (just because it's Tony Jones) a little atonement theology.
Episode 6 - General Conference With Tom Berlin
This is raw, unfiltered Crackers & Grape Juice. Morgan had a chance to catch up with Episcopal candidate Rev. Tom Berlin while at the 2016 General Conference. Morgan and Tom had a chance to chat about the issue of human sexuality which is currently being debated in Portland. In addition, Tom filled us in some of the committee work being done which is not getting as much social media attention.
Episode 5 - United Methodist Church General Conference Preview
It's hard to have conversations in the local church about the easy stuff: choosing which hymns to sing, what color to paint the hallway, and what kind of coffee to serve. Is it any surprise then that the UMC still cannot have a conversation about human sexuality that doesn't become reduced to name calling? Are we surprised that we spit out talking points quickly and fail to realize that we are talking about actual people with real lives?
Episode 4 - Stop His Heresy
Morgan is on a book tour! In their first attempt to record a live podcast the guys stumble, recover, lose cell phone coverage, and recover again as they talk about Morgan's new book.
Episode 3 - Will Willimon: Fear of the Other
Just imagine for a moment that Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Ben Carson actually walked into a bar. Then on top of that awkward moment, a retired UMC Bishop calls them out. Well, here we go.
Episode 2 - Brian Zahnd: Easy, Cheesy, Cotton Candy Christianity Part 2
