The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Are you ready for a break for yours? Are you ready for a break? Absolutely ready for a break? Yeah, and so much for that. It's time for The Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com with Nick Eatman, David Hellman, and bar Garcia and Derek Eagleton. Hi, guys, welcome to another episode of The Break. David Hellman is not in today. We unfortunately have a replacement for him,

which is just happens to be Brian broad Us. Huh whose Twitter account got hacked. I don't need to keep talking about that, but yeah, it's true. He is here on the show today. We'll see what he can bring. Good to have you back, Brian. I had a show with you in a long time. Glad to bring some reason to this thing, some real knowledge, some real knowledge. It better be good, Better be good. Well, there was some trash talking aside from the mine that I'm doing

right now, there was some trash talking happening yesterday. We talked about what that linebacker guy move come to move Cruzier Hill. Crucier Hill said about the Cowboys and how they basically just always end up choking and how they're gonna choke them out. And then of course that was brought back to the locker room, and I thought that Prescott had an interesting response. I liked his response. He said,

you know, coach Garrett has a great saying. I don't know where he got it from, but winners worry about winning and losers worry about winners. We're focused on ourselves in this locker room about what we need to do in itch, in every phase of this game, and what we need to do for this week. Yeah, reactions to this, did you like his response? It was the perfect It was the perfect way to throw shade in a classy way because it was very clear he'd heard it. He is good at he and he did it in a

way that was professional. He did it in a way that doesn't become bullets and bullets and board material for the other team. But you get his point. I mean, he started with who and he did he heard, he heard, But that's the point, Like he said it in a way that he could do it and let that guy know, Yeah, I heard what you said, but whatever you know, I'm

moving on. You're not worth my time. Basically, that was The funny thing when they said his name and told him it's like who yeah, right, okay, this is defending Super Bowl champ though, right, yeah, no doubt. I mean the play. Yeah, why are they having Why are they having to throw you know, why are they having to say things like that? That's clearly not that not Their team is not as good as it was. They've got issues and they know it. That's the thing. You're a

little scared when you say stuff like that. You're a little scared. You know, you gave up a lot of yards. He was part of it. He dropped an interception down in the red zone. Yeah, down in that It would have been a huge play. I mean, Dak hadn't throw an interception in a long time. All of a sudden, this guy drops one. Hey, I'll go out and make some plays. Your team's not very good right now, and

they need you to make some plays. We'll see, we'll see, because he's gonna get a big dose of that ball coming ride at him, and we'll see if he can handle that. That's that's where you know, with the Marcus Lawrence last week, his locker room talk, he backed it up. He went out there and played an incredible game. It sounds like to me the Eagles are a little scared about what's about to happen to them. So I guess we get to that's gonna be Marcus was scared too

last week. I mean, but that's what happens. Though. You play it that way and you kind of rallying people around it. The problem is is that guy's not the leader of that defense, right like the d Laws. But

they got more to lewas well, I did hear. I heard our national report from one of the guys that covers the Eagles, as said after talking to some guys in the locker room, he got the impression they weren't very happy with their teammate for saying what they said, and more so just kind of like where'd that come from? Like why, yeah, why did you say that? That does it didn't even make sense, Like what's the point of you saying that? So? Um So, I'm not sure that

everybody was on board. I don't think that's the way that I went. I don't think when that's those types of things are said, I don't think everybody's on board anyway, right, I really don't. I mean, to me, it's you and Nick you said you mention about Lawrence being scared. I think Lawrence did that in his way of Lawrence is a legitimate player. You know, Lawrence is a Pro Bowl, All probe type player, a player that makes seventeen million dollars a year to you know, to make play. This

guy doesn't make plays. And to me, that's trying to talk something up. You know, they realize they're not as good as they were. Now. They're capable of winning this game, absolutely they are, but they're not the same team that last year went through and run the Super Bowl the way they did and the other they're fighting for their lives right now. Yeah. The other thing I'll say is I think in this instance, and I don't know, I'm guessing here because of what I what my impressions of

what I saw. My impression is, I think this guy is just kind of having a little fun with the media. I don't think he really was trying to be bullets in warm into. I think he's just kind of having a little fun. And actually I think the opposite with demark I actually think DeMarcus was like I kind of think that I see a path for us winning this game. This is here's how I see it happened. This is

how nobody believed. No, but but I think I honestly think that, and I've heard this from a couple of different people, both in the locker room and just people that work with this team, that there was a feeling in that locker room last week that you know, we really think that they haven't faced the defense like ours this season. We really feel like we can beat this team.

We really feel like we can do some things against him defensively that will show, that will shut down this offense in a way that people haven't really seen happen. They believe that, whether we didn't believe it or anybody else to believe it is beside the point. They really believe it. And I think Demarcus's comments were more reflective of that, And I think grugia Hill was more just kind of having fun with the rivalry, having fun with the media, sure more so than him saying we're gonna

really be able to do this. That's just my impression. Now, before we completely dive into game day predictions, any actives and all that, I wanted to hit on a different note real quick. Derek Henry from the Tennessee Titan tied up a rerecord with Tony Tony, and I'll let you guys talk about it because this is more around y'all's era, not mine. So yeah, it sucked. I didn't realize it would. No, I was just like tack well, I was like tackling. I mean kidding me. I mean it was the worst

set of tackling. But I did not think that would bother me like you did. And I remember I grew up Tony Dorset posters on the wall, my favorite player ever. And I love the fact that that that was uh something that Cowboys had, you know, and they still do um you know. I mean, I guess the Titans needed eleven guys on the field to get it done. I mean the Cowboys didn't. But cow Whiskey just do it

with you know, it just uh it was. It was an outstanding play and congratulations to Derrick Henry for doing it. I mean the speed and the strength and all that. But I did I did like the fact that it was the Cowboys rerecord Tony door sets and you know it's still I think was a longer run, but it still goes down. You can't beat it, So it was tie it beat it, But I. Yeah, I was a little. It was more affected by it than I thought it would be. Never why would that affect you? I don't know.

It was his favorite player. I get it. But I mean I six, I'm six years old and I and I woke up as a Monday night game in college. I woke up and I said, I asked for my mom. I said, did we Did we win? You know, that was before I got to stay up and watch the whole game, And she said, I remember vividly. She said no, but there was a really great play and she talked about that, you know, and I I was like no,

but I mean, like, well, what's the butt? And I lost to the Vikings, you know, but she was like explaining this play, and it's just been it's been awesome that that, you know, the Cowboys did it, and they did it with ten players on the field, and so it's been tied. But that's okay. Sorry, Yeah, I mean back in the day, like I say, as a Cowboy fan growing up, you know that I had certain players.

Only twenty two was my favorite player. But it's it's funny that you see record there's certain records you think will never be broken, you know, there's certain And then but if I can understand if you had a guy that was your favorite player and you're like, oh, I just always wanted him to be in the record, but I wanted him to be I didn't want people to say, well,

they've had two ninety nine yard runs in NFL history. Yeah, Tony Dorset and Derrick Henry, and you go and then you go, who yeah, yeah, you know, like you know, Nick's kid's gonna one day, Dad, who was your Tony Dorset? Who? You know that kind of I mean, you know, and that's Derek Henry. It's just a great point because of what Emmett Smith has been able to do. And he's not the greatest running back in Cowboys history anymore, and

so it's like he's always kind of had that. So he has he had a hell of a career here. I mean, he really really did. And then Emmett Smith comes along and then all these everybody when you think about Dallas Cowboy running backs, everybody always says Emmett Smith first. But from my era, being old and all that, yeah, Tony Dorset was legitimate. Calvin Hill before him, you know, Dwayne Thomas before these guys were Dallas has always had a great history of running back except for the Hamricks

were here when I was part of that mess. But you know they're well, it was Nick was put on this earth to remind you of all bs that we drafted and signed for all those years. So you know, every time I see Nick, I think about it. He remembers every single mistake, every single I'll say this, when they have like instructional videos on how to tackle, like there's like a Tommy man Sky type of tackling drill trash can ye centerfield, it won't be that play now,

Like it won't be quit. You know. Mickey said Jacksonville was frauds. He said that like like a week after that the Cowboy, after the Cowboys beat him, he said, Jacksonville's a fraud team. That team was one play away basically from going to Super Bowl. Ay where I don't call him a fraud. I really don't. I think this was a to me, this is a classic case. This is a classic case of a team that last year probably played a little bit above their heads, sure, and

they probably got into this year and started going wrong. Yeah, and that defense looked across at the other side that the offense, It was like they're giving us nothing, and I think they've just gotten a point where they're just like, we can't do it on our own. Yeah, and it feels like, okay, just throwing up their hands like we just can't do this on our own. Excuse me on bur if I may do this? Can can you tie in? Though? Could the Cowboys have done that with their defense? And

what wait and what way? Throwing their hands up said you know what, we can't do anything with this. That the cow if you look at Jacksonville, took the approach of you know, let's be honest. Dak was having some problems and you know, and and you're defensively, you're not giving up anything. You're trying to win games. Hell, you held the Saints to thirteen or to ten points and

he gave up seven sacks. Think about that. But do you think at some point in time do you think the Cowboys ever got to a point in the season you know what they said defensively, they go, god, we just can't why do we keep doing this? They might have if they wouldn't have pulled that trade off, and

maybe that maybe that's why they get it. Yeah, there may have been the coaches and the front office may have looked at that and saying, we're at that might be the fining that might be the defining moment of the season that Jerry Jones. Someone says to Jerry Jones, Hey, listen, we can give up a one. What he goes, we give a one to get one. No. No, I've sat with him for two straight drafts. I've talked about this.

He hates that he hates is the drafts going on and he's just watching and he's going, God, I can't draft, I can't, you know. So, I mean somebody had to really convince him or he looked at this division and said, this things for the taken Sunday. It's for the defense. Sunday. It is for the take. And if they go out

there and take it, it is you know. But I wonder if there was a point in time, and I'm wondering if if they wouldn't have made that trade that they or they wouldn't have changed the offensive line coach, that the defense would have instead of Ambar walks up to somebody and interviews him in the locker room and take goes Ambar men. Our offense is just not get it. Done well. Really no, just can't win without this With this offense, we can't win. That's what's happened in Jacksonville.

Trust me, when you're looking at this team and back then and you see the way that this defense is playing, I mean, you have to reflect and say you don't want to waste this defense and the way they're playing, because that does not guarantee you that you're they're gonna be playing the same way next Year's point right right, The NFL is all about the moment, because think about this, and that's that was a tweet I had last night.

Think about this. Just last year, Barry Church said when he went to Jacksonville, this is a more talented defense than the one I came from. And guess what, he was right. That defense last year played so much better than any defense in the NFL. They were legit. One year later, Barry has lost his starting job. Their defense is playing very poorly, they don't tackle, And the defense he left that he said was less talented is now

a top five defense in the NFL. The NFL changes rapidly if you don't take advantage of opportunities right now. And that's why again, and the move of the Maury Cooper the movie you made on the offensive line, you better be making those moves in season because if you feel like you have an opportunity, you see a window, jump in that window. Don't wait because next year is not promise. You can't say, wow, defense will be better next year. You don't know that. You really don't know it.

Have you? Are you guys surprised though, that they've had those defense play as well as they have without really Taco being very good, David Irving being m I A. You know, are you surprised that they've been able to play as well as they have? I mean, look at all the things that they that had, mean, you know they play, you know, the human log comes in there. I mean he's been great playing as a defensive tackle. You know, Collins has been banged up. I mean you've yeah,

you're missing Sean Lee. What's sawing about him? Well before we came in, he saw no master, right, he's gonna be on master. Yeah, he's like human. I'm like, who who's that? It's like you don't know anyway. Okay, but but think about think about on defense what they haven't had and able to and they've been able to pull things together the way they have, you know, defense, Let's see, we'd just kind of been still waiting for Randy Gregory,

you know. I mean, you've getting all pro play out of your left defense, ven, But how about everybody else who thought vander esh you know, who thought Jalen was gonna rise the way he has? I mean, this defense is played tremendously without certain pieces that you really thought. You know, you're like, oh man, they gotta have David Irby, they gotta have David Ry, they gotta have Sean Lee, you know. And now it's like who trying to figure out Lee would fit back in? Yeah? Or do you

want him to fit back in? Yeah? I think you do. I'm just saying that those are the kind of questions that I'm going around. Now. It's just a complete one eighty from where we were. And I don't want Vanderesh getting twenty one stamps like he did against the Redskins and they lost that game because he got fifty and Sean and Jalen got sixty five. I don't want that, Yeah, you know you don't. You don't put a guy on a T shirt to get twenty one snaps. Why would I Why would I, Oh, why would I take Jalen

Smith off the field? If I had to and keep Sean Lee and Vander on the field, I would do that. Is there any reason why I should do that. That's one of the things I said when when we start talking about and nothing to get Chanlee. I kind of like keeping Vandersch on the field as much as anybody, right, And then I figure out what I'm doing with everybody else. Yeah, they can figure out how to get those three guys in a rotation. Can I ask one more question, host hostess?

I was wondering, you know, if if if Sean Lee comes back and doesn't play well, do you think that he knows too? You know, I know he's a competitor, but does he and his does he tell Marinelli and Richard hey play these guys play the young guys. I'm not helping you here, you know, I mean? Or is it or is you know? Or is it Sean Lee is so prideful that they're going to carry him out on his shield? You know? Can I have both? Like?

I can't let me tell you why I say that, because I do think when it comes to his career, Yeah, I think he's gonna have to get pushed out of the door. Yeah, I think Brian would be like, yeah, I think they're gonna have to push him out of the door because I think he, to me, reminds me of the kind of person that loves the sport so much that I just I have a hard time thinking that he'll ever think I can't at least play a

role for you. Now that doesn't mean he thinks that he's still the starter, right, but I think you'll always believe I can tell play a role for They're gonna have to say. I truly believe that he's a team player the way he asks, so I think that he would seriously do what he thinks is best for the team and the way like during this time. And you would think he would be threatened by what Latin is doing right now and you know, kind of pushing him out the door and doing and playing so well. But

it hasn't. Like when I see Sean Lee, I mean he's talking to Latan. Their relationship is great. He gives him advice. So it's it's something that to me, it amazes me because most people would just be upset or envious and not want to help them. Want that person to do bad. Yeah. Yeah, basically, but he's absolutely different. Yeah. Yeah, let's be honest. There that was that you talk about a teammate approach. I'm not trying to slam Tony, but I'm just you know, the the the urban myth is,

oh he helped him, he got him. No, No, what you just described is absolutely right what you've seen from strong Lee. I just wonder if, like you said, it's being such a great team player, if he wasn't there, if he wasn't better, that he would step up and say, guys, you got to go with these guys, right. But that's the point of what I'm saying is I think that he would. I think he would defer to whatever the team say, because I think he has a team guy. But I do think he would believe I still can't

play a role for this team. So his expectation would be I should be getting some snaps because I could still provide whatever that role is. I could provide a role for this team. And so I think he would have a problem with not playing at all. Yeah, I don't think he would have a problem whatsoever. Was saying, Hey, whatever kind of rotation you want to get us in get us in a rotation where it's best for the team. Competitor,

that's how you always feel. You feel inside that you can't help the team and that you want to be out there and do it. It's just that's the soul by competitor Nick. He said yesterday Jon Smith said they got three elite linebackers. Is he true or false on that? I think he's false. I don't think. I don't think that they're three elite guys anymore. I really don't. I don't think that who's not elite. I don't think Sean Lee is elite because he doesn't. You have to be

on the field to be elite. I mean you have to do that. Like talent wise, that's great, but he's not. So if you said elite talent, would you say that's an accuracy? It doesn't matter. It's the same as David Irving. I mean he's got elite talent too, but wait to talk about him stam rail Cook and Crawfish. Hey, who's the best player you've ever saying? It didn't do anything David Irving, although he's back in the building. Yeah, that's

good for a big difference, though not helping people. He's helping. So it's like a different kind of talent. When you mentioned Travis Frederick, Travis Frederick, I'll give you that. I'll give you that that that that helps, and I you know, and I totally agree that Romo didn't help. Sanchez was the one that, yeah, exactly more than anything with Dak. But he's gonna help you get in the butt, did Romo. I don't think Sean Lee's gonna have a prepared statement

and get up there like Robot didn't and kind of passy. Yeah, but it's different. I mean, like we know this, I mean quarterbacks, It's just it's different. You you play one, you can play three. You can figure it out. I agree with you that he'll he's out, He'll he's stepped backward a little bit, but still have a run. He'll know. I think he'll know too. I think he doesn't need You don't think they'll have to push him out of door?

You think now. David Hellman said this other day he thinks there's gonna be two press conferences this year to retirement press conferences, um, and he thinks one of them will be Sean Lee. Just just like I've had a good run before they cut him for salary cap and you know, but that's a tough one because he's you would think he's gonna be like he reminds me of Bill Bates way, you know, way back when a guy that would just play and play and and and maybe

even play as a special teams guy. Yeah, just started to be out there. I want to play the game. Yeah, keep playing, Keep playing. That's a better example, Dirk, because you were the best guy and now you're not, And you don't want to go play for another team and chase a ring. You already have one, right, different different lee. But I mean, he's not going to go with a better spot. So who was the second you left that wide open? I actually forgot it. I'll think of it

in a second. Alright, Well everybody's got to Oh yeah, it's the center of attention. I think he plays. It was a few weeks ago. Let us go ahead and thank our first break when we come back. I like it. The inactives is Tyren Smith gonna play or not? We'll see. If you're like me and you love I mean, if you have a thing, then cutting the chord is scary. are back and let's talk about so many actives. Yeah, some of these guys that might be able to play and the ones that might not be ailable too. So let's go ahead and give our predictions and the inactive, starting off with I'll go with us. I'll go with Swaying Swing. I'll take Tavon Austin for five hundred. Mike White seems like a good guy this week. David Irving, Oh that's all. There's five. I'm gonna go with the Cubbington the linebacker. That'll be six? Is that right? Five?

Or six? Five or six? With let's at six and I give us the last one name. I do not want to go with an offensive lineman because I don't feel like so you're keeping Tyrant smiffective guys play. Yeah, I think I want to keep They'll probably go Redman, but I wouldn't. I wouldn't. I'd go eight guys there. But where else can you can you get seven? You get what about talking not being active? You want to

scratch him again? Well, I'm just saying though at some point I want to be not happy with Tycho what you know? I know I know about it. But they talk about attitude adjustment, They talk about a lot of different things to talk about and being hurt. Give me a rotation for your defensive ends. Give me, give me a rotation, give me. I'm so confused with this whole attitude thing that keeps getting tacked along to Tackle's name, because from my end, and it's not like I'm there

all the time, it's gotten better. I've never seen that kind of persona coming from him. I've never seen him acting like that to where I would get a sense of him at having like a bad attitude or whatever. It's why world on the side of the building. What are some of the things that you've heard that it is with him? And trust me, I got a lecturing of because on one of my gut guts ones, which you absolutely love, by the way, a big fan of

the game. Actually check that out this afternoon. And yeah, despite what Ambar says, you know, I think that, like I wrote that, I wrote one day that you know, expect Taco to be back in the lineup part of the rotation data. DA got a text later on the day,

Oh Taco's playing. Oh I guess he's not, by the way, you know, I mean, I thought did Taco was healthy and all that, And you know there's some you know, there's been two or three people who's kind of saddled up to me and said, hey, you know, need to need to knock it down or rung or two. You know, and you know there's responsibility as a player, you have responsibility. You know, what do we do when we stand up and look at our desk, walking out the hallway or whatever.

You look out in the field. Who's out there working? Sean Lee's out there working, Tavon Austin's out there working. You know, there comes responsibilities as as a pro you know, and if you're injured, you have responsible as if you're injured, you have responsibilities. You know. It's not just show up and roll your helmet out there and think you're gonna get sacks. And you look at what they've done at defensive end. Randy Gregory's done a nice job. Crawford's been

over there. You know they they've got a little bit of a rotation. They could put Armstrong over there. Sure, I want Taco to be good. I mean, someone told me this the other day. How about this for a quote that guy goes, hey, you know what, why is everybody getting upset about us trade in a first round pick away for a for Mary Cooper. If you're gonna

pick Taco, think about that. You know. Now, if you're gonna pick vander esh okay, you know, oh yeah, but if you're gonna if you're gonna pick talk, you know that that just shows you right there that you know people are if you're just gonna if you're gonna pick a guy that's you know, needs to buy in a little bit better to what's going on. Yeah, you shouldn't. As a young player. You should be doing everything in your power to be a part of this. You know,

you're you're you're fighting for a division title. You should want to be on the fish. You want to be about there. But you know with the rotation, you mean, you got to make these coaches want to play you, you know what make it hard for them to say, we can't we can't have him inactive this week. You know we can't. He's got to play right, you know. And but you know it's it's really easy for me to sit there and say, what has Taco done to make me? If you know, Nick, you could talk about Okay,

who plays center of something happens to Joe Looney? Well, I think you need Chris Redman. He's your Adam Adam remember Chris Adam Redman to be your center. Yeah, you know, I mean there's certain guys that if they had to go in the game to play, you would want them to play. Yeah, I think I would. I would stay with eight offensive lineman active. And then you asked about

the rotation. I mean I typed in eight guys here, I got Gregory, Lawrence Armstrong and then Crawford at the ends, a Leak, Ross Woods and Red as your tackles, Taco and Irving or you're an active you could you could play that way. Yeah, Now, I don't think I do. I just think that Tyrone Crawford is playing as well as anybody on I broke the other day. Most underrated players on the team right now or to me or Joe Looney and Tyron Crawford and A don't know what.

I love the way he's playing. Yeah, he's not just a big, jolly, fun guy that you want to root for. A damn good player. Yeah, I mean, I don't know, can get a little nasty out, ye like that. That's if you the worst. Mike him up because I want to see him talking. Yeah, I'm Betty, I'm I'm having a hard thing, and he doesn't. He probably just laughs at you, like in an intimidating way, like for dinner and rubs. So as far as the old line goes, you would just keep Safilo in there and then just

add back Tyron Smith. And as far as starting and I want my backups to be UM seventy five. Yeah, well you got Yeah, you got flaming Connor Williams and Redman. It might they might, they might just go seven, but they might, they might just do that. But but where where What do you worry about? Because you really have to You can't put Connor Williams down because he could be well, you got fleming. But okay, now who's going to back up the guards? She's gonna be back up?

I mean, that's there's so many things. Where are your bigger questions Sue Filo's ankle and Tyron Smith's shoulder. I've better protect myself in that area. Yeah, because there's when you're talking about a sting, there's a real he can feel great before the game. There was a real chance, Yeah, that you get in the game and just one hit the wrong way aggravates that thing, and now you gotta paybody in We've seen we've seen. How about how about

Zach Martin? I know he's off the injury report, but okay, what happens something to Zach Martin? Now, how are you gonna play a guard? What are you gonna do with guard? You know? I mean you got Williams and if well, what if you sat when you can't sit him? Or what have happened? Something happens to Sue Field? You can't sit him? What Thompson does he have to play? Darius? See Darius Thompson could be an out? Yeah? Yeah, I

mean special teams to show up. No, not really, you know, to me, I would keep all eight like Nick him. I mean, I'm I'm all for playing if it means it's going with three safeties and then having and having more defensive back. There's more cornerbacks in the field where they're gonna where they're gonna hurt you in this game, Philadelphia. Is the number of receivers are gonna throw last week against the Saints. I know your show probably did this.

You sat there and talked about Michael Thomas the whole time. You didn't talk about anybody else. This game. You're going, well, they've gotten you know, Jordan Matthews. Yeah, Golden Tate they've got, you know, they've got and by the way out they got sprawls. I mean, you're thinking about Zach Hurtz, thinking about, Okay, how am I going to cover these guys? You know, Thompson playing is not going to help you cover these guys. Yeah, having as many corners out there will help you cover

these guys. I actually brought up the question, do you think that this week they do something similar to what they did last week where they use some dime because they wanted to be able to put a corner on the running back. Do they maybe put a corner on arts? Do they consider possibly keep getting those That extra cornerback on the field will cover all the different guys. Yeah, all the different guys that you can cover. See, this is where if it's third down and long. You know,

I'm not I'm not. I'm trying to give the last time you played of sixteen reception or the sixteen targets that Ern's had, Nine of them were zone, seven of them were manned. Okay, so you're you're got to think, Okay, where did he kill you? He killed you? Really playing zone? You know, now where you also have to know is this guy is a first down machine, like forty four percent of his catches resulting first down. Yeah, so you've got to figure out, Okay, how would I play him.

I'm not saying take Byron Jones on him every time. I mean I think he got to mix it. I don't think you just sit there and let and let Carson Wentz sit there and go Okay, let's see what they're doing. Okay, see I got it. Well again there it is. Oh hey again, Okay, there it again. You know, I don't think you do that. I think you say Heath Whoa, Jones, vander Esh Okay, we're not gonna go now. You know, kind of you got to kind of make

him think about some different things out there. And that's I think though, if you get in some long third and long situation. Absolutely you look at Zach Earns's career and if you think about it when Byron Jones was covering him, basically, you know it's like for one game in sixteen, four four catches. Let's go fourteen, you got uh four catches, five catches, three catches, no catches, three catches, three catches. That's in what that's what Byron Jones. That's

his career. That's Zak Earns. His career catches against the Cowboys kind of in the Byron Jones administration. You know, he's he's the buck stops there, you know. But you look at the last couple. He had fourteen in this last game two two and thirteen. So yeah, you gotta figure things out there. Jordan Lewis one person on Twitter agreed with me. I don't agree with you on that, Nick Nybe. You put Jordan Lewis on we're playing basket where the height advantage kills you long arm guy play.

I get it, But I'm just saying, if you if Jordan Lewis can beat him to the spot. As great as zachert is, he's a great tight end, he's not a great receiver, Jordan Lewis, he can. He's quicker than him. He can beat him to the spot. Now, if everything's up in the air, Okay, great job Carson Wentz. But if I want him throwing it in the air, if Carson Wentz, he'll throw it away. I mean he's not that accurate. Yeah, think No, the thing the thing that you have to worry about. And on the fourth down

play that was short of the sticks. It was Heath driving. You know. That's where I would worry if you had to say, Okay, you got Jordan can tackle. Jordan's a long arm guy. See this is why I would disagree with you here, Nick. I would put somebody on him that's comfortable playing him. I don't know Jordan Lewis to me now, he's probably not comfortable covering Golden Tate because Golden Tate got him in a dime package. He missed him. Book out the gate. Here we go. So but to me,

Byron Jones understands the play he's played. He's played this guy, he's played. He goes, Okay, this guy's gonna try and stick me on the outside. I've seen this move. I know what he's gonna do here. Oh he's tight split. Oh he's gonna run this thing to the inside and break it out. I know what he's gonna do here. I'm gonna play him and get somebody because I know sixty five percent of the time that quarterback is gonna throw the ball to him. Yeah, I know that, and

I like that. All I'm saying is is kind of what you said this time it is Byron Jones he's long, he can go with them this time, and maybe it's Louis Oh no, no, absolutely, yeah, this time it is vander Eschi. You get hitting me off the line, So yeah, maybe like that. Yeah, I think that's what you're gonna see. I don't think you're gonna see him just get just

repetitively get some guy. But I would say this, if you get into those situations where it's third and long, like you said I would in those instances, I would say, I'm gonna line him up. Every time there's a third and long and there's a like that kind of situation. I trust the fact that more times than not, I can get Byron the way he's played this year, I can get him to make a stop fall. I'm gonna say this. He used the number sixty five on passes of seven or ten yards or more. He's getting the

ball sixty four point five percent of the time. That's where that Carson Wentz is saying, Okay, who can I throw this ball too and get a first down. I'm doing whatever I can to take him out at that moment in those situations and make him go somewhere. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm going to keep him from beating me in this football YEP. I could maybe survive Jeffrey and guys like that. I don't know if I can survive zach Ernz. Sorry to interrupt you. I'm sorry. Ram

kind of have a show going on. Sorry, sorry guys, but we kind of do have to go to break for some reason. Let's go to break and when we come back we'll finally get into game day predictions. David Helma was gold on. He just sent me, uh um, I don't know, yeah, no, yeah, I mean yeah, yeah, oh yeah, Like you know, it's

funny because the Cowboys and Eagles last week. I would have said this, but now I no, I mean two Cowboys Cowboys David now Nick's prediction, Um, you know exactly, it's gonna be It's gonna be a good one. But I think Dallas is better, I really do. I think they're just a better football team, and I think they've got something going here and all this while two straight games for the Eagles, that's that's nice. Saints had ten and they shut that down. I think Dallas it'll be

it'll be a tight game. This team is different. They have to prove it, and I think they will. I think they win twenty eight sixteen over the Eagles. I think they're better for ball team and they're gonna show it. Derek, you know, I think I think the same thing. I think the difference in this game really ends up being the Philadelphia secondary. I think that the Cowboys will have an opportunity to get some big plays on this defense, on this uh, this Philadelphia secondary, and because of that,

that's going to get them a comfortable lead. Not only will they they'll be able to run the ball as he did the last time when they played them, but just their ability to use Amari Cooper and as we've been seeing, they're they're looking at Gallup as well. Gallup is starting to get a little bit more integrated into this offense. He's a big play kind of guy. I think they're going to connect on some of those big plays this weekend. I think Cowboys get to win twenty

four sixteen. Gallup actually just a missed practice today. He's sick, but I feel like he'll be gonna be okay. Yeah, sickness is fixed. Sickness he'll be fine. Yeah, nice, all right, Brian, your turn read gut feeling. You know what in this show. In this show, we keep it real and we say no, okay, what is your prediction. No, I'll tell you what I think. I think that the Cowboys have the better defense, and

I think that's what's it could take. One of these teams defenses is going to have to stand up and make and make a stand, if you want to say. And Cowboys played very well against the Saints. This is a different challenge with all the receivers and weapons they have. I think they've got the guys in the secondary to

do it, though, I really really do. That's interesting thing in fact about this about the Philadelphi Eagles so defensively, when they face a team that rushes the ball for twenty two times or more, they've lost every single game. I think the Cowboys find a way. They did it last time running the football, they converted on third down, they finished some drives, they had two drives they went. They went seventy two seventy five yard drives in that game, and I think they could do the same thing. I'm

with Derek on the score. I think it's going to be a ten point game, you know, if the twenty six sixteen something like that. But I think Dallas has the better defense. I think the offense is coming around, and I don't think the Eagles have anybody that can cover a Maury Cooper. The Saints put their best guy on a Maury Cooper and he was eight for eight on targets and catches. I don't think they have anybody that can do that. That will be huge in this game.

But Dallas's ability to run the ball will be the difference and this make in this game, along with their defense. Nice yellow enough. No, the Colways got me hooked. Now I am hooked. I'm on the train. Both of my legs are inside the train. The earlier weeks, earlier months, I have one leg out, I one in, But I'm all in this time. I think the Cowboys will definitely find the way to win. The defense. Everyone knows how they're playing. I think they can do enough to stop

the Eagles offense. Especially playing at home, is gonna be a fun game. The energy level is gonna be up to the roof is gonna be crazy. Only when the defense is on the field. Yeah, let's keep the energy level down. When the offense is on the field, just the public service announcement. Yeah no, no waves, no no, not when the offense is wait, say that for the defense. When the defense is on the field, go crazy like have fun offense. We'll see how many Eagles fans show up.

They have a chance, they have a chance to kill the Eagles season. They do, they do. They have a chance on Sunday afternoon to kill the super defending Super Bowl chances, champs season. You got to take that attitude in there. I mean you almost assassin like is it. Go in there and do that. Can nine and seven get you into the playoffs? I don't think it can. Nine and seven Well no, no, I don't think it can.

And I can't. I've seen eight and eight got one year, remember the Cowboys within eight and eighty and they got any cost. So it kills their chances to win the NFC East for sure. Yeah. The thing about it is I kind of want them to win some games if even if they lose to the to the Cowboys, Yeah, win a little bit. But I agree with you. You have put them put them away. Yeah, they're not winning the NFC East at all. If you if you knock this game. There's there's all these teams battling at six

and six, the Carolinas, the Minnesotas, those people. One of them has to get in. Yeah, one of those people will get in, you know. And I think this is a year where if you would have played Carolina today instead of Opening Day, you would love to have played them in stead of the Eagles. But I could say just I'm happy that. I just hope they keep going on a role and win these games, because then I want momentum going into the playoffs. I don't want that

Week sixteen. Oh, We've got to rest guys bit and then you know, I know, just keep the teams that have that every game has been a back against the wall game. Keep that attitude, keep that momentum, and you know, those are the teams that have success because they've been playing playoff games since halfway through the season. Keep playing playoff games in your mind. So before we end the show real quick, we've talked about the defense and the offense,

both matchups here overall. When you look at the Cowboys versus Eagles, what would you say is the toughest part of this game for the Cowboys defensive front? Philly I mean, you still got to deal with Fletcher Coxe's that the Yeah, I think it's still gonna be that because at the end of the day, you still got to be able to block those guys up front. And those guys are coming, and as Brian said earlier in the show, cowboys give up a ton of sacks. That's the problem I worry

about about Dak ball security in the pocket. They've only had nine turnovers all year. The Eagles they they they're going to look to create turnovers. How do you create turnovers? Attack Dak Prescott in the pocket. Knocked the ball loose. That's the way to do it. And they're bad secondary though. I mean that's the thing. They can't stack the box to stop the run because they're a secondary so bad and if they blitz it just exposes them a little bit more so. Cooper's got to get open, Gallop's got

to get open. Decks gotta hit him, all right? Nice, Now, is this the first time that we all picked the Cowboys in this room? Maybe the Redskin I want to say, there was another game Thanksgiving. I can't see anyone. Did you all pick them against the Saints? Only one? The only one is proud of that one. Yeah, just quick quick, no, let me say a quick no. For those of you listening to like paying attention to what Brian has said about he's very proud of picking the Cowboys to win

against the Saint let me just say this. This is what he said. My gut is usually wrong, so I'm just gonna go with the opposite this time. So I'm gonna go with the Saints. So there you go. That's all I wanted to say. That's all I wanted to say. No matter, but you got the best record of anybody. That's what I'm saying. I got the best record. That's why you should look at the gut feeling today and final thoughts, hope, So you're the only one who was a scout, okay, so I would hope you get most

of them right. Well, sick, not lying. I'm the only one that went to jail exactly. You know what, you know what a true incident is that you're seven and five and the Cowboys. Amazingly somehow we line up. Then a game that Mickey picked against the Cowboys was the first Les game. Gotta show me that killed killed. Thank you so much Brian for joining us today. Thank you guys for listening. For Derek Hilton, Nicki Man, Brian brought us has been Cowboys Break on Dalla Scoutboys dot Com Radio.
