A New Approach To School

Nearly four months since their initial closure, Schools around the country received confirmation and guidance this week on how they will reopen come September, as new Education Minister Norma Burke released a framework on the logistics battle facing teachers, principles and classrooms in the months ahead. Today on the podcast host Ian Doyle speaks to Deirdre O'Connor, Assistant General Secretary of INTO, who details the challenges and difficulties that the sector face in the coming months. 

The second half of the podcast looks at the power of community, as Deirdre Garvey CEO of The Wheel talks about the outreach programme they helped coordinate with Irish Rural Link responding to meet the needs of over 134,000 cocooners across the island. She also warns about the impact of the pandemic on peoples’ mental health and wellbeing across the country, which she believes will be felt for some time to come.
