The world, as John defines it, are the thoughts and practices of a world system in opposition to God. Don’t fall in love with the world because that love pushes out our love for God. The world system is dying and temporary but when we invest in our relationship with God we invest in what will last.
John 3:16 is God’s love letter to a people in a world in rebellion against him. Anyone who calls on the name of Jesus can have their sins forgiven and receive eternal life.
Be on guard against false teachers and live with urgency now. Abide in the truth of Jesus Christ and the knowledge you have of Him, by His Word, through the power of the Holy Spirit. As you seek Him, you will be led to deeper worship of Him.

We are called to love the people God created!
People are leaving the faith, and some are teaching a new gospel. How can someone be assured of their own salvation?
Sin is a serious problem, both in the world, but also in the life of the believer. If you struggle with sin, don’t despair! Jesus is your advocate. When you accept what Jesus has done in forgiving your sin, your response should be to spread that good news to others.
God is life, light and perfection. In him is no darkness. If we claim fellowship with God while walking in sin, we walk in the darkness and not the light of God.
Jesus, preexistent from the beginning, is the creator and eternal life giver. John the apostle met him, knew him, lived with him, listened to his teaching and now testifies and proclaims that Jesus was God - and all can have a relationship with God.
Whether we are the Pharisee or the tax collector in this story, we are in desperate need of God’s grace and mercy. There is forgiveness and mercy for even the worst of sinners but we must be willing to acknowledge that need and repent.
God desires for you to get involved in his mission in the world. We see new aspects of God’s character and we grow in our faith when we work with and for him to accomplish his purposes. You were made for this.

Although Jesus was born in humility, the hope that had been longed for was announced in splendor to the shepherds. A light has come into the world, and hope is here.
God wants to give good gifts to his children, if they would only ask. There are many prayers that God delights in answering yes to that are recorded in Scripture. We should not feel abashed at approaching the Father and asking him to “give us success”. These have been answered in the past and God answers them still.
In a world longing for hope, it is there for any who would pay attention. From the very beginning of creation, we can see that hope has been declared to the world.

We all hope. And when we despair of hope, we desire a reason for hope. God has placed eternity within our hearts, and so we hope for a day when all wrongs will be righted and all creation restored.
Throughout the history of the world and church there has always been persecution. We live in a world where we are taught to avoid conflict, but we need to consider our responsibility as sons of God when it comes to peacemaking.
We long to see and know God as he truly is. If we are cleansed from our sins by Christ, we will pursue him from a pure heart. We will see him work in this world and see him face to face in heaven.
In the kingdom of God, there is a principle that won’t be violated: he who wants to receive mercy, must be one who shows mercy. This teaching talks about what mercy means and how we navigate showing mercy in our world.

Jesus follows the progression of thought in the intro to his sermon on the mount. First, he talks about being poor in spirit and recognizing our own sinfulness. Next, he talks about mourning over that sin and receiving the comfort of forgiveness. In v. 5 Jesus shows that as a result of that recognition and repentance, we now live a life of meekness and confidence - trusting God to be our defender.
Though the believer in Jesus has now begun to recognize the depth of sin and the hopeless feeling that comes with it, this results in mourning over that sin, which will lead to the comfort of Jesus.
God desires for you to be happy, to live a blessed life. As Jesus begins what is arguably his greatest sermon (Matthew 5-7) he starts by talking about the way to enter into that kingdom life. Jesus tells his followers that the starting point into the kingdom of heaven is to start poor in spirit.

Since we have been offered the unmerited favor of God, we must begin to embrace this new reality. God’s house should be a house where there is a different atmosphere and reality than the world. This is a place where grace is offered and embraced freely.
God’s house is a house of radical generosity. In our world we are taught to seek out pleasure, seek out riches and accumulate things. God’s house is meant to have a different set of values where we work, plan, and save in order to be radically generous in our pursuit of the spread of the Gospel and help for those in need.
The house that God wants to build is different from the world and culture around us. In a world and culture that is tribal, our church body should be a place that is diverse culturally, economically, and generationally.
