Episode description

Some people who experience intense feelings from depression or anxiety try to release painful emotions by engaging in self-harm - like cutting, scratching or bruising themselves. Relying on self harm to manage life's problems may feel good in the short term but can have many negative long term consequences. We can help those we love by better understanding this increasingly common issue, and showing we care by listening without shaming or blaming.

With support from Teen Link and Carter Subaru, C89.5 fm joins Seattle Children's Hospital to present this episode's student-led conversation around Self Harm Reduction. Listen and learn as youth from Nathan Hale High School share their own questions and concerns with this month's special guest Dr. Kyrill Gurtovenko - a Clinical Psychologist at Seattle Children's.

Coping 101 is an ongoing series that destigmatizes mental health from a teen's perspective. No matter our age or background we all face challenges, and there are healthy ways to cope. Get started with more episodes and vital resources hosted at c895.org/coping101
