Episode description

You can pre-order my new book, The Good Ally, in bookstores now: https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-good-ally/nova-reid/9780008439484

So here we are the final episode of season one! Inspired by Barack Obama I open up about what it's like to be an anti-racist educator, black woman, and soon-to-be author in unprecedented times like these.

I delve deep into the heaviness of reliving racist trauma I talk about how we can ALL instigate change in ourselves and others without resorting to dehumanising behaviour. And I share some deeply personal stories that came to me after watching Barack Obama delivering an incredible eulogy for activist, the late John Lewis.
In the episode I also discuss:

  • Remembering past trauma while concurrently experience it right now
  • How we can normalise racism as a way to protect ourself from trauma
  • Them-ing and us-ing and the race hierarchy we all need to be aware of and disrupt
  • Anthony Walker and Joy Gardner
  • Being vigilant of our own internalised racism and where racism shows up everywhere around us; the media, social media, and everyday life too.
