The Church: What’s The Point?

This week, Dudley brings us his Monthly Message, “The Church: What’s The Point?” and in it, he asks a defining question, what is the purpose of the church? With warmth and clarity, he confronts common myths like the church exists only to “get people to heaven,” the church as moral improvement, the church as a temporary parenthesis in God’s plan, and the church as political liberation alone.

Turning to the Ephesians vision of the church, Dudley points us to the gospel reality of heaven and earth together. The church is a Spirit-empowered, messianic community, a working model of the new creation, where Jew and Gentile are united in Christ, and God’s wisdom is displayed to the world. This is not hype, it is a call to live from who we already are in Jesus.
