Come to the Reynoldsville Rollerdome on Saturday, Jan. 26 for a benefit hockey tournament, with all the proceeds going to the family of a little boy who is battling leukemia. Bentley Landis is just 2 years old and was diagnosed in late 2018. The participants will be in the hockey competition all day, from 7:30 until 5:30. It’s another $20,700 for our 25th Annual Light Up a Child’s Life campaign for Make-A-Wish, thanks to three local clubs! The clubs worked year-round to collect money to provide magical wishes to kids dealing with critical illnesses. Sandy Club brought in $4,400 (one wish), IPNS (Independent Political and Social Club) donated another $4,400 (one wish), and the Olympic Athletic Club donated $11,900 (nearly three wishes)! Skye Houge is a 9-year-old boy who had a traumatic brain injury when he was younger. Since then he’s been through at least 15 surgeries and had to have half of his brain removed. Sky came in to visit and talk about his wish to go to Disney World two years ago and how much he loved it. In fact, he loved it so much that Disney characters are still on his Christmas list for this year.

However, David Crusoe from the Boys and Girls Club of America says that most kids lose some of the skill, like math and reading, over the summer. The nearest Boys and Girls Club is in St. Marys, but you can also check your local library, YMCA, or parenting group for other great activities to keep your child’s brain working over the summer.
