AI Carol

Welcome to the Speaking Your Brand podcast. This is your host, AI Carol. Have you ever sat in the audience watching a confident speaker and thought, how do they make it look so easy? The truth is speaking confidently isn't about being fearless. It's about knowing how to channel those nerves and show up with clarity, presence and purpose.

Years ago, before one of my first keynotes, I was backstage power pacing and wondering why did I say yes to this? But the moment I walked out and looked into the audience, I reminded myself, they're here because they want to learn. I'm here because I can help. That simple mindset shift changed everything. So how can you speak with that level of confidence?

Let me give you three tips that continue to serve me and the women I coach. First, know your message inside and out. Confidence comes from clarity. When you're grounded in your core idea, your big why, you're less likely to get thrown off by distractions or doubts. Instead of memorizing your talk word for word, understand your key points and trust yourself to communicate them from the heart.

Second, practice like you mean it, but not just in front of your computer, practice out loud, record yourself, stand up, move around, gesture with your hands. Practice your opening especially. Those first few minutes set the tone. If you feel strong there, the rest will flow. Third, shift the spotlight from you to your audience.

When you focus on serving your listeners what they need, how you can help, you stay anchored in purpose instead of performance. Instead of asking, will they like me? Ask, how can I impact them today? And here's a bonus tip. Confidence isn't about having no nerves, it's about dancing with them.

Over time, I've learned to see nervous energy as a sign that I care and caring is a powerful thing. So instead of trying to get rid of the butter butterflies, invite them to fly in formation. You're more capable than you realize. And when you own your voice, that confidence radiates. If you're ready to step more fully into the speaker and thought leader you're meant to be, head over to speakingyourbrand.com to learn more about ways you can work with us.
