Episode description

Host: Jason Birnholz, MD

This program features Dr. David Cosgrove, professor of clinical ultrasound, Imperial College School of Medicine, and honorary consultant in radiology at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. He is an expert in ultrasound, known around the world, and is the author of numerous publications. He speaks with host Dr. Jason Birnholz about a new form of ultrasound imaging— elastography, or sheer wave imaging — for detecting breast cancer.

Next, Dr. Birhnolz sits down with Dr. Michelle Brown, associate professor of radiology at the University of California, San Diego. She is presenting research on detection of placenta accreta using MRI. The incidence of placenta accreta has increased ten-fold since 1950, as the incidence of the primary risk factor, cesarian section, has also increased.

These interviews were recorded at the Radiological Society of North America's 95th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, which took place November 29th through December 4th in Chicago.
