Hello and welcome to Company D—a history podcast that brings to life the forgotten stories of everyday soldiers from the American Civil War.
Yeah, we know. It sounds dull.
But let me tell you a secret—it’s not.

I’m your host, George F. Snell III. And, yes, I know a pretentious name like that doesn't do much to dispel the idea of boredom. But stick with me.
Company D refers to one company of the Third Maine Infantry Regiment—ordinary men who lived through extraordinary times: farmers, carpenters, and fishermen who left their families to fight America’s bloodiest war.
In each episode, we dive deep into the life of one soldier—before, during, and after the war. These are true stories of heroes and villains, loyalty and betrayal, romance and tragedy.
Let me give a glimpse of what’s ahead. In our premiere, we unravel the 160-year mystery of a captain who vanished on the battlefield. Gone, but not anymore.
Later, you’ll hear how one brother fought for the United States while the other joined the Confederacy. Truly brother vs. brother.
And in another episode, we uncover how a corporal from Maine helped establish the first African-American township in North Carolina.
History can be raw, riveting, and real—as gripping as your favorite Netflix drama and as action-packed as any Marvel movie.
Company D premieres September 17, with new episodes every two weeks. Follow now on your favorite podcast app—or visit companydpodcast.com.
We can’t wait to share these amazing stories with you. Thanks so for listening.
