Episode description

All in-person classes are cancelled until Monday at the University of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta has declared a public health emergency. With over 18,000 active Covid-19 cases in Alberta and hundreds of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units, the provincial government just announced major new health restrictions. Starting September 20, businesses will have to either ask for proof of vaccination/a negative Covid-19 test, or be subject to new limits on capacity and service. There are restrictions on indoor gym activities, liquor sales, retail capacity, and event capacity unless businesses ask for proof of vaccination, in which case they can operate as normal. Work from home orders have been issued. Indoor social gatherings are restricted to 10 people for vaccinated Albertans and kids under 12. Indoor social gatherings have been banned for anybody who's eligible for vaccination but hasn't done it yet. In-person classes are cancelled at the University of Alberta until Monday, September 20th, when proof of vaccination will likely be mandatory to meet the new Restrictions Exemption Program.
