Welcome to the Command Center Podcast. I'm Julie Donaldson. Game day is right around the corner for the Commanders this Saturday. Football is back at FedEx Field for the first game of the preseason against the Carolina Panthers. But before we dive into this matchup, Logan Pulsing and Santana Moss joined me to chat about their training camp standouts. So here we are basically at the halfway mark of training camp. Coaches had time to kind of ramp things up a
little bit. What would you guys say was the biggest takeaways from camp so far? Santana, I think one of the things that I've liked, you know, and I'm paying a receiver, just seeing the way the secondary is communicating. I mean, that's big. I think one of the things that stood out because I was hopping on those guys not pressing last year that much and then just you know,
getting beat in critical situations. You see a difference. You can see some of the guys, especially number twenty Bobby the McCain, he's he's getting into a groove now and showing you some of the things that he did in his previous spot. And so I'm looking forward to seeing these guys go forward. But that's that's stood out, you know, more than anything else to me. Yeah, and I think just the to me to be like on brand is the tight ends man. They've done an outstanding job. The
young tight ends have just been fantastic. And every time someone gets hurt, you think, oh, they're gonna run into a death issue, and the next guy just steps up and looks like an outstanding football player. So to have those three young guys playing so well, Sam, he's still playing well, I think it's a testament to the recruiting that they've done here or the you know, the scouting department,
and it's been great. So not by us at all, but we know how important the tight end position is into the offense and what they want to do as well. And a lot of the Titans have been kind of converted into that position as well. So I think to keep your eye I just see how they are adjusting is important and it's great to see that they are progressing so far so well. What about some areas in camp that you say, okay, you know what, like we still have time to fine tune here. Where would that be?
I think for me, it's it's Carson Wentz's mastery of this offense. You can tell like they're you know, an OTAs we talked about this end, he look phenomenal, look like one of the best I've ever seen. But obviously the slow start to training camp. I had a nice practice on Saturday, but it's taken some time to kind of work through some of these different concepts in Scott Turner's offense. It's first time he's been in a really
truly neal the offense. So I think that that's really interesting to me and I want to just see how that continues to progress. Still a lot of time yet a lot of prices games get that done. So but keep an eye out. And I was going to say Carson wins as well, But one of the things that you can probably pinpoint or point out is the linebacker position. You know, we haven't really seen them play yet, but we know this is one of the areas that we need to give some attention to. So it's gonna be
key to see how these guys fly around. I think we can expect what we can against the guys. I mean for the guys who's going to be out there, but you need the depth. Depth is going to be key. So the guys behind those guys who are gonna play a big role, you got to see what they have depth in position flex that's something that this team really stresses making sure that they have. As we've seen over the years, at times, you do have to go deeper into your roster than you would like. Getting that time
with those players out there is important. This is the time to do just that. Anybody surprised you so far, it can't Yeah, I think the guy that desprised me recently. It's Kelvin Harmon. He just as a guy that's been super consistent. I always forget to bring him up until here, Kelvin, I'm talking about you right now. This is exciting because you've done a great job. What about Utana? I say his name again, Marken Michelle, Yeah, I had a right
this time. I mean no, honestly, you know, you expect guys to have that opportunity and to relish in it, and he's been doing just that. Spoke about him earlier, and then we got coach on he spoke about him. And so when you keep getting spoke about, you might be climbing up the latterly have a spot. So when they start learning your name over your number because you're like,
who's out there making flashes? You are making an impression, and that is what you have to do if you're one of those players on the bubble trying to make a case to be able to be here for the fifty three or the practice squad to extend your football career.
