Speaker 1

Welcome to the Command Center Podcast. I'm Julie Donaldson. This past weekend, NFL coaches and scouts from around the league traveled to Indianapolis for the twenty twenty three NFL Combine. Former Washington player Santana Mausin Fred Spoot helps me recap the combine and which prospects stood out. Oh, Anthony Richardson. I think Anthony richards is one of those talents where we didn't see a lot of them, you know, throughout his career, play only one season and he has high intangibles.

But can that transform or translate over here into this league and can he be a guy that someone gets and developed to be one of those premier quarterbacks. I mean, that's the trick. If you take somebody in the first or second round. These days, they're expected to play, even though they made benefit from sitting a little bit. There's just not as much patience these days. But that's why, Julian, that's why instant coffee don't taste is good anyway? Special? Wait,

we saw that with Pat Mahomes for sure. For you a name a man, well four just a board dog, all right? He showed up six one. I think he got a six three wings fan He also ran a four three five forty. Love to see him paradip with sake juice two six one corners with bows kids, I would love it. Well, is that what you're saying at sixteen? Because if we look at what Washington has at that position, who would you say they need to draft this? The one Jones tackle from Ohio State. They call him fanos.

He snaps his fingers in the lineman disappear. I want him if people need to realize he's six eight, three hundred and seventy five pounds feet. That man, that's tough. You know. For me, it'd be somebody the best for our top three positions that we need to be filled. You know, I think you know when it comes to those draft picks, we gotta we got to pick basically someone that we actually, you know, absolutely need, instead of

going for somebody who's just availed in the book. Yep, okay. Now, separate from the draft, of course, we know there's some position groups where you benefit from having a veteran leader in the room, kind of someone who can you know, set the expectation of how you're going to perform, how you go about your daily business, and also, you know, get those numbers that you need on the field. Who

would that be for you in free agency? Bobby Wagner super Bowl winner, leading talking in the NFL right now. I want him because he can come and stabilize a good defense and turn it into a great defense when he comes in and when he talks, everybody else has to listen. I think he's a guy that can make the DEA and when we know the linebacker room is something an area that definitely needs a little attention this off season. Yeah, I second that, Wagner, kenj you know

what I mean, those guys we need that position. Phil, you know, although we do have two guys that's capable, but we need that better in leadership. Yeah, all right, let me ask this one to you then, Fred on the defensive side of the ball, who will you be looking for that's already on the roster this offseason to kind of take that next step. Mister Chase Young, show them who you are, show us what we got in you.

I think Chase your this needs to be a year for him because don't forget we have to wonder we're gonna pick up his fifth your options, He needs to have a big year about offensively for you, sa I say, Sam, How I say right now? He already he'd already have everything in his hands. They basically saying, hey, we're coming into this season with you being the guy that you could potentially be the starter. Yeah, we have to somebody in to compete for that job with you, but right

now he has everything in his hand. So kauai here, get these guys going off the field, away from everything. So when you come in here doing spring drills and OTAs you rolling the airwolf is my name? Okay? I like that? How about? Look, the draft is all about everybody wants to get in. Who's going to be taking number one? And it might be interesting this year because the Bears have gone out and said that they kind of like justin Field. So give me your number one name,

just just I think. I just think he's gonna go to first. Santasia, I think Brayshaw, and we play the game up name that commander to see how well Santana and Fred know our guys. If you ran a forty today, what would it be? Fred? I would probably run a four to twelve. Yeah, and that don't exist. I'm like that four slow, It doesn't matter. Now we want to make sure no injuries, but back in your time, but we knew you had the speed up there. I want to play a little game here of seeing how well

you can name that commander in their times. So if it comes to the four to your dash, who had the faster time between Terry McLaurin and Johan Dodson Terry McLaurin Terry undoubtedly. Okay, that is true because Terry ran a four three five Johannah four for three. Both are fast. We liked them both out there. They can stretch the field and challenge the defenses. Who had more reps on

the bench press Santana? Would it be Johnah Allen or durn Payne Payin Payin House of Pain, Yeah he did, because you've Allen had a shoulder injury to coming out of the dram. He had and that's why I knew he was gonna fill to know no number. I just knew he had a solda injury. That's why I said, I think he did twenty seven times twenty one. Allen had twenty one, Payne had twenty seven, Pain had twenty seven. Who led the commanders and tackles this season? Payin tackles.

I know your jump, I jumped the gun. Yeah, I believe that was a linebacker Jayman Davis one hundred and four combined tackles. Second was Derek Forrest with eighty eight. Cameron curl third with eighty three. Who scored the most touchdowns for the Commanders this season? No, no, John Dotson. Yeah, the most does downs. Let's go wait it is it's John Dotson. He had seven. Terry, Curtis and ag each had five for the second most. And remember John Dotson

missed like fives. Imagine you would have been leading already. Washington holds the sixteenth overall pick in this year's draft. When was the last time that they held that sixteenth overall tick? Last year? Yeah? No, I know, well when they picked John Allen. No, they hold on they had the sixteen they they selected sixteen selected sixty. They selected sixteenth overall last year. It was John um They had

Carrigan sixteenth overall in two thousand and eleven. So both Ron Rivera and you Fred were second round draft picks. Who was selected higher? Ron Rivera? Now he was forty fourth in nineteen eighty eight. You got you buy what Santana? Terry McLaurin just finished his fourth season Washington. Oh my goodness, resulted his first trip to the Pro age right there? You Oh but he was fast? Right? Which was higher? The number of receiving yards in your fourth season in

Washington or Terry's receiving yards this year? Who? Mine? Yeah? In your fourth season? Oh mine? You say my fourth season? Fourth season here? Yeah? Oh nah, I don't think my fourth I don't think I had more receiving yards your fourth season overall? Yeah, Terry, Terry, I was thinking you stay in my first season in Washington. There you go, name your commander, and that's how that one goes. For all your news and analysis, to be sure to tune in two command Center weeknights at five and ten pm
