Welcome to the Command Center Podcast. I'm Julie Donaldson and a tough divisional matchup with the New York Giants. The Commander's left MetLife Stadium with an even twenty twenty tie. Quarterback Taylor Heineke through for two touch dumps, including one to Terry mclauren. The wide receiver recorded his fourth one hundred yard game of the season, totaling one hundred and five yards on eight receptions. Logan Paulson and Fred Smoot joined me to give their biggest takeaways from Washington's Week

thirteen matchup. John Ellen's like, I play this game to win. He's with you. Fred, He's like, I don't like a tie. A tie ticks me off. I don't know what to think or make of it. But look, they had their chances, especially even early on the game. They had their chances to probably put up more They should have blown off the Giants. They did not. But Tyler Heineke once again does some crazy magic at the end of the game, just like he always seems to do, and it worked.

It got the game tangle. What do we make of what Taylor did, especially there in that final drive. I think obviously got to be really excited about what Taylor did. He brings that, like you said, that magic, that that special something that other quarterbacks in this system have not been able to do so far, so that's really exciting. I do think he still puts the ball in harms way too much. There's those gas from the crowd. Ohs

this interception, this is what it is. But again, those are kind of the variants you're writing with him at the quarterback position, and I think he does enough good stuff. He elevates the offensive line enough, he finds a way to make big plays in crunch situations, and I think get to just tip your heart to him because that's that's an outstanding efforboy, well, I felt like this was his best game in the year. I feel like he

felt good. He was throwing the passes where they need to be in and him and Curtis standing my hands a connection. Him and Tarry mcloan have a connection. I just want to see him make the plays when they need to be made. I just felt like we left some plays on the field. We could have won this game. And listen, New York Jazz are very similar to us. People don't know how we're winning. They don't know how

New York is winning. All I know is this, when it's a close game in the fourth quarter, these two teams, they do come to play. As John Allen said, maybe I can't quite entirely repeat the words about the way that Taylor Hanege played, but basically he showed a lot of guts on that final drive and getting John Dotson into the end zone. We were talking about we wanted him to be much more involved in the game plan. He was able to make that score and showed some

of those fancy moves of the footwork. My goodness, we have playmakers. And that's also the challenge that Scott Turner has had of having to adjust his game plan to what Tayler can do. With the guys that we have out there are plenty of guys that can make moves. Fred, what did you make of Scott Turner's game plan through I thought Scott caled a good game yesterday. I thought

execution was the key. I thought offensive line play. I think the offensive line in the quarterbay have to get on the same page because once the white player is kyled, now it's all about execution getting the ball to where they need to be. It and making sure that you protect Taylor. Henken, we talked earlier, well, we broke some stuff down and we tried to figure out how the guys getting in there. When you play a great defensive coordinator,

it tests the offensive coordinator. Yeah, absolutely and totally. I think Scott did an excellent job. I think there's some areas that he can improve, and I think he tell you that himself. And I think overall, you say, man, this is kind of shades of what this offense can be. And I think you know, everyone talks about Taylor being limited factor. The offensive line is a group that they have to insulate from a pass protection standpoint, So I think it's kind of both things. It's not just Taylor

by himself, it's the offensive line. It's about speaking to this team's skill set right, finding ways to run the football, get those guys in the best position to be successful. And then the defense they gave more certainly against Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley in the first half, especially than we would like what was going on that we've seen from the defense, and you saw this game. We ain't

never been able to stop Daniel Jones. But let's be honest, if Daniel Jones could play US sixteen games a year, he would be a pro bowler. He feels comfortable with playing those and people don't give Daniel Jones to pros. Play his wheels. Daniel Jones can flat out and running and you can see he could push the ball down in the field. He's getting better, the team is getting better. I thought the defense came out in the second half and limited him to sixty seventy yards. I thought the

defense fabbed out what they was doing. They field him out, and then in second half they came and had a playing bol Yeah, and I think you know, one of the thing is hots off to Brian Dable. They had a nice little wrinkle to get Jones on the edge with their keeper game blocked down with the tight ends, and as the defense kind of said, this is what you're trying to do, they were able to figure out, make adjustments and make some place but it took some time.

And that's what a good football it's fun in those matchups. And as apparently defensive coordinator Jack Doru said the halftime, did they do anything that's surprised? You know, you knew what you're going to get from Daniel Jones and sae Quon Barkley. I'll stay to your assignment. Don't really need to make adjustments to see stay doing your job. And of course now that means they've got to do it

again in two weeks. For all of your news and analysis, be sure to tune into Command Center week nights if five thirty and ten pm on NBC Sports Washington. You can also stream on YouTube and commanders dot com
