On today's episode of The Command Center Podcast, we recap that Dolphins game. Not the most exciting thing, but some things, some positive things to take away when you when you sift through it all, it's under there somewhere. Do we also get to We talked about what we want to see moving forward. We talked about Ron that your leaders talk about, Terry Yes, and our guys, Santana is a little salty with herm Edwards.
We're going to win the game.
Make sure you check it out.
I don't even think it was I was salting.
It's just say I'm like, I was not even thinking about it.
I'm like, don't get me wrong.
Welcome into the Command Center Podcast. I'm Logan Paulson here with Fred Smoot and Santana Moss and we got an update.
You need to put some respect on my name.
We got an update. That hawk out side, that hawk outside there's an update.
Is it from Canada?
Yeah? Yeah, yeah yeah, get tell tell the people what's up because like our producer Jason did some research. Ye yes, let's pray it.
It's the wind from Canada coming down and it's called the Hawkins win and that's why they say the hawk is out there, so we got to the.
Bottom of this and so. But but the thing that was saying is like, so it makes sense that people from Chicago said, right, white people from.
The South, because I'm from Mississippi and Chicago and Mississippi I brother in sister states. So that means we have a lot of ken in those two states from them migrating from the South and forth.
Yeah, that's really interesting. I think they wouldn't know that, right, Yeah, I mean someone's educated. The migrating thing is interesting. I didn't know that.
See, you one of the type guys that think spiders got muscles in their legs and they don't like they don't they don't they know they only use their legs through hydraulics in blood pressure. They have no muscles. I really like that's why when you kill a spider, their legs curl up because they're blood because they have no muscle. It's only through blood vessels.
Man, I ain't worrying about we need to stay away from cheating.
Actually, I just like that he knew that. I don't even know if that's true. I don't know if that's true true. I don't know if it's true, But I like that you. I like the hypothesis. I like the that that is a thing only.
So let me ask you this.
Why you think if you kill a spider, why do the legs curl up?
Well, I know people go riga mortis right, because there's no blood. They go ste Yeah, they go stiff because they got muscles. So I thought it was like a similar action between they have no muscles.
That's why it draws up because the blood pressure dies after they die. So once the blood pressure is going, the legs curl up because they actually move by hot drop.
But I wonder if they only curl up when they're like kind of scrushed, because then the pressure in the body decreases, because if you see just a dead spider, they'll look dead.
Not really, you've never really seen the dad spider.
Just check at the end of the day.
No, that's why they always curl up and they are fully functional through blood pressure.
Jason, do you have do you have thirty seconds? I'm gonna read the read Can you just get on your phone here, I'll give you my phone looking up yes, bout.
Saying that leaks.

That's pretty good, pretty pretty smooth. I love how like when he says the disclaimer, he goes okay, yep, and he kind of like gets him stuff in like uady pick up truck. So all, Jason's looking up the spiders. You got the spiders Jason, yeah, okay, Texas Woy would like y'all dudes A So I mean you, that's the thing, man, You know enough to be dangerous. Right. You can say something at a cop shop party and I'm like, that's that,
and I look it up and it's true. And then other times you'll say something Jason, oh no, fant thor Okay, we just had almost a catastrophe. Jason saved it though, good job. But and then there's other times you say something I'm like, no way, is that true? And then I'm right, Usually, well, well guess what this is true? This is true.
Everybody didn't know a repto folk anything with spiders.
Instead of like.
That it ractophobia. There are muscles inside the exoskeleton that pull and flex the legs and bed them inward. What the hell? Fred? All right? You know what?
This is what I've noticed about you? There are information he only looks it up.
There are no exterior muscles because they have an exoskeleton, meaning that they're skeletons outside of their muscles. Yes, but there has to be some type of action, some type of le let.
Me look at look at my fun facts. We're gonna talk about this skeleton.
Wh which means there are no muscular right, what did they say? Spiders do not have muscles in their legs. They extend them using a system of hydraulics powered by blood pressure. Uh, this is a this is on Instagram.
This from that's from a fact.
This This is this is from Wall Street Journal, the one that.
We listened to Wall Street they did, they didn't hand.
Us in a couple of depressions we couldn't get out.
I think it's probably a little bit of both. All right, exoskeletons not exo skeletons, muscles hydraulics.
By the way, you see how quick he found that?
Yeah?
Yeah, this morning he was like, on the way, you know, I have my like I followed like most of my Instagram stuff is I'm following like science and facts, facts of stuff.
Why are you coming here with all that stuff?
I love knowledge, like you shouldn't love knowledge. And if you got a couple of Joseph and make it feels that much better?
All right? Well, so to promote knowledge. We got to recap this Dolphins game, and dolphins, what did you learn from These dolphins do have muscles, They do not have exoskeletons. They are mammals. Fun facts, all right there? They do have milk. Yeah, that's would make of mammals, I know. But that's a weird thing to think about, though. Dolphins milk milk. It's in the salt water.
Human beings that drinks another animals.
Milks macros bro all right, all right, so let's talk about it high level thoughts. Who wants to start high level?
What can I say that ain't already be seen?
They all what we thought they were.
Listen, the first thing all us agreed on was we cannot let these dude get the big splash play and they started off the game with splash plade after splash play. You're not stopping the Dolphins that way. We said, make them earn it the hard way you brought them up. We did kind of hinder them in the running game, all right, because the passing you gotta stop it first. Make them one dimensional. And we did not make them one dimensional. And once they got up, ain't no coming back.
They used to they front runners they played with the league.
Yeah, I just you know, it's hard to wrap my head around how or why we the team that seems to allow everybody that we know who can beat us beat us. It's always the same guys like it can be the tyreege on this team, aj Brown, you know on the Eagles, whoever that number one guy is, we find a way to put the least likely guy on him and so he can go out there and perform and have a Fantasy day, you know what I mean, the all time Fantasy day. So that bothers me more
than anything. But you know, overall, if you had to give me my my opinion, we fought, We showed that we had a little fight, but we just you're never gonna be good enough to go out there and compete with a team that are able to take.
Advantage of things that we don't take advantage of. You know, we're watching some of them plays with you.
When you have a young quarterback like Sam, you know, and he's growing and he's learning on the job, it's hard to you. It's hard to go up against the team at the Dolphins who just they they're gonna throw it up there and say, guess what stop us. Yeah, you know at the end of the day, and I just feel like we didn't have enough dog in that fight.
You feel me, Yeah, I think so. First off, I totally agree about the explosive plays. I totally agree about the offensive and defensive maturity. I will say, when you watch y'all twenty two, So I was I played last night watching the film.
That's how you do.
Yeah, I watched watch the defense, watch the offense. Offense was a little bit disappointed. We'll talk about that and say, defensively, this was maybe the best game they've played in a couple of weeks. And now what I mean by that is no, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yea, yeah, I'm with you. But like the linebackers matching concepts, the linebacker's playing instinctive, the linebackers reading quarterback size, secondary guys matching
concepts pretty well, like on the whole. Like if you just said, hey, if I just showed you clips, just like pulled the cut up and said, hey, these are some plays, you'd be like, dang, that's pretty good man. They're fitting run. They're fitting runs with six man boxes, seven man boxes. They're lighting the run.
They very good with the run into.
Because they're in cover two the whole time, they're trying to play coverage, and then all of a sudden it's like, well, why did they lose forty seven or whatever? The forty five to fifteen And then I said, oh wait, here's these four plays real quick, thank you. And then it's like you're getting exposed to play to Tyreek kill. They only played one snap of man the entire game, and
Peyt d Priyan it was that play. It was a touchdown, and according to John Kaime, who was really dialed in on stuff, he said, you know, there was an adjustment that wasn't made defensively kind of and again that's one of those things where you say they did a lot of stuff, they improved in a lot of areas, but still some of the issues that have plagued this defense are still there.
So hats off the run. He came out head.
It seems that way he changed.
He changed a lot of things.
And then you gotta think about it too. You going against a superpower offense pushing it, so so like for you to you know, miss against a guy like that or against a team like that, it's kind of like it was gonna happen and it happened anywhere it would happen anyway.
You can slow him down, you cannot stop.
And so obviously that first play, the first explosive is a is a bust, right because they don't adjust to it the right way. You know, I guess Kwan's supposed to compress, Cam's supposed to disguise and rotate over late. None of that happened.
But the route with this slot running their fade route has bid to go to the route.
The lay is like five years for every out.
Well, and we in our breakdown on last on Commandment last week, Yeah, what do we show? We show a bunch of box fades that they run, so obviously we knew that was.
I was impressed with Saint Juice on the other side. He pressed the heck out of walk and I'm saying, this is what we've been wanting. And then you get a young guy on the Cheetah and you're like.
Oh my god, hey, I'm gonna tell you it's a coner. But look, I wouldn't have stepped up.
He played it the way that he made me believe it was somebody supposed to helping him because he had outside and he was like basically saying, Okay, my safety gonna be in there.
Yeah.
And as I'm seeing Hi run, I'm like regis safety and I'm like, oh, there you go. But Tyrie j once he got the move and but it almost looked like Cam was looking at something else. Then Tyreek had the ball and he was like, oh, oh shoot, too late, you know what I'm saying.
Yeah, And so that's obviously really frustrating. Then obviously the second is supposed to play. Great adjustment by Tyreek makes a tremendous play, tremendous ron. I like the call. They bring a simulated pressure, so they bring four a week, and that in that setup there should be a free runner. They do a good job to back for Miami, does a good job getting over and you're really counting on the pressure getting home. And obviously they hit the ball
over the top. Fuller I think is in relatively good position. I mean till he wasn't. Until he wasn't. And then it's the other question is what's Percy supposed to be doing? A guy again, Percy, I'm gonna say this about him, man, he flashed a ton of positive plays in this game, and so if a guy we're looking and kind of
monitoring development. It's like he maybe is a microcosm of the defense because you're like great tackle, great coverage, great this, great that, and then it's like communicating what is happening on this one, you know what I'm saying. So I think that's they just thought. The inconsistency defensively is the thing that just really sticks out to me.
We have sixty five plays, it only take four to beat you.
That's right, Like they.
Go to hold this, this is what makes great defenses.
Well look at it.
On the other side, flip side, Miami defense didn't give up the big plays. Like you talk about the scramble with Sam Hill. Of a scramble, hell of a play he made. But when it came to our go to guys Terry Zero, Johann Zero, Logan Thomas, where was he like at one point when do we say here, go to mismatch.
I'm just going to it all day.
And I think that's something that I think is really interesting too, is that like when you look at the defense, the coverage. I thought the coverage was much better this week, Ron simplified looked better. The thing that really stood out to me defensively with our defense is that our rush did not get home in any in any situation. So there'll be times when you get to it to pull it down.
To it had a white suit on and it was white out.
The guy, it was white out, but he was flicking that thing. He was Yeah, he was like you could tell a quarterback that'd been there, done that.
Like he was letting it go. I'm not putting myself at harm's weight. And he was throwing the spot. He gets people he throw.
He throwed to a spot so well, and it's almost like me coming back, you know, just thinking back about the years playing with Art, you know, Robert and Kurt. I remember Kyle telling him he's going to be there, get to the spot, get to that spot. I need you at that spot.
It was like watching like a high death version of Yeah.
I mean, so I'm watching the game like, oh he didn't, Oh he did again, Like it was like everything through the ball, Oh, you're right there, and it was touch and it was almost to the point the way the defense is almost perfect, but he just got behind the right spot and the ball was in the right place.
Yeah, And I think so to kind of finish that thought there again to it did a great job, but our offense, their coverage did a great job matching concepts. And then and then we could watch a couple right where Terry's open.
It's people opening and.
Then their space. But the rush is getting home. And so I think you see, like again you saw with Dallas, when that rush is locked in with the coverage, there's not a lot you can do, nothing.
You can do.
And you know, and I'm gonna put this out there because i just feel like it should be said.
I'm one of those guys you got to give. You give a guy like some time, you know what I mean.
This is his first year and playing with the office in line that has been you know, probably with him the whole season. But it's a guy to here and there that's different at times. But I think when when you want to because I listen to the junkies this morning, and how that go I very you know, seldom see they was bashing Sam as if like the man don't have a shot, and I'm like, when you're on a bad.
Team, everything this look everything look bad everybody.
So you can't really just judge him off of that because a few weeks ago he was like, oh.
This guy could be the president of America.
And it's the same way they was with Tour. At one time before Mike Dave's got that, it was like, oh this guy, he's a trash. Oh when Mike got that, all Mike gets there, But that office is not gonna be the work.
Because Sam is too short, Like, I mean, that's my dude. Yeah.
So it just bothers me that as people, we are so easy to jump on and off something and not let.
It just mature or show its true worth.
So, you know, I hate being the guy that always point out Sam bad. But when you're on a bad team and you got a young quarterback, how much good are you expecting?
So I'm I'm pleased with what he has accomplished this year. But in a microwave society, everybody want it now.
Everybody what you said, mam was cooking.
Yeah, it takes time, like, but we're in a microwaves side. They want to push the button. They want it done now. Sometimes you got to let these people grow and let the TV dinner.
You know, they can't do it like Sam.
I think his progression is going well, but he only a prison of the things he can control and he cannot control pass blocking like he had never made control.
Pass and I think so everyone always like, at least in my mind, I compare him to Jailing Hurts all the time in terms of a guy that was had some ability. Second round pick and Jalen Hurts and then looked like there were times where I watched them in Philly, I'm like, there's no way this works long, yeah, because he couldn't anticipate throws. But the thing that they did have there in Philly was an awesome offensive line, so
it didn't really matter. He had to sit back there and he's still he's still hold does in their life. And so now, like Sam, I think because of I think the offensive line, let's talk about them for one second, like this was a rough game for them, okay, And I think on the whole is from the season. Can I watch every play, do a ton of evaluation on them. They they've been fine. They're like a probably middle of the pack team, fifteenth sixteenth in the NFL.
Fine.
You can win football games with that if your quarterback is in a position where they can stay up right well and anticipate rows and kind of like you look at Tom Brady for example, he played behind some of the worst offensive lines in football for a while. But you didn't know because he got the ball of his hand. Pad Paid Manning the same thing, right, Drew Brees. Right, they got the ball out of their hand quick.
But they got something to come and throwing to the running backs.
Like if you look at Drew Brees, you look at Tom Brady, you look at Peyon Manny, they threw. They did not hesitate to throw that thing to the left and throw that thing to the right before they pushed it down the field.
Yeah, and so what I guess what I'm saying is that like he has to do stuff that's a little bit more advanced earlier in his career. Yeah, because of the situation, you've been asked a lot. Yeah, and so I think that's something else. And the other thing is, I got to point this out. While there were guys open, I think Miami got to give them credit. They matched stuff really really well.
First of all, we're talking about Jalen Rams, Yeah, and we're talking about Isaya. How Like, we're talking about two of the best cons in the league.
On them, guys are safeties. In the linebacker play was exception. Baker was all over the everywhere. I mean, every time you saw a guy in a zone or in a lane, you saw someone else like, oh I got him, you know what I mean.
Oh that's my guy.
You know.
It's like you're watching somebody that's like, man, they just knew every move to your to that chess board.
I mean, they played that cover three match, cover four match, And I think that's how we were looking. Honestly, there were times watching this year where that's how we were looking the second half of last year in terms of matching concept.
We was on one last year in the secondary.
And that's why I'm so awful watching it this year because at one point this year because you're like, one guy has been missing from that from that you know, that defense last year far as the secondary, Yeah, one of two guys, but one guy, you know primarily, and we looked this off you know.
Yeah, And I think it's you know, it's a communication issue potentially and obviously very tough game. But I do think there were some positive things. I thought b Rob had a b Rob game, played well, ran hard to the ham screen. Yeah, and then so hopefully he gets right because he's been a bright spot for this offense. I think that's going to do it on that game. Thank god.
I have to get them the problem.
Me and Towner was talking yesterday doing the game, and I said in town like, no, they ain't always been like that.
I was like, you know what, those dolphin units.
Could be the best units in the inn in so now because they're whooping behind. But at one point, boy, that's thing. But I'm from Miami. We look at me but the ocean now.
But now it's like.
They have changed the blue a little bit, more of a till, you know, awkwards, just till look so that and now it looks more like I.
Like those those Seattle throwback jerseys. I like those two.
They are great.
But boy, when when they do that the blue on blue with dolphins, ye, they hard to be. Now, I would say the Chargers with the baby blues, very hard to be, but that dolphins.
Man.
But I was glad.
I was glad that the Rams went back to their original color because that that.
Dark, dark blue dark. That ain't that was they ain't they want They want super Bowls with.
That, understand, But it was like that all white Bengals, the white bingles, cold, the.
White helmet, helmet. Yeah, when they go off.
That helmet.
It was like, you know, it looks like to me like someone out in the snow. You know, they had that snow white snow bank.
Yeah.
Oh man, did they do the stripe something helmet or no?
Yeah, they strip on the helmet, the white with the black sick.
It's sick.
I forgot, that's who I seen.
I like that their bills when they go blue on blue, I like when I mean red on red.
No, no, it was the detail favorite color right there.
It was the Texans when they did that candy apple red on red last week.
You like that?
Oh yes, sir, you like to come on man?
So so my favorite throwback Washington uniform. Yes, the I'm not even sure what's a maroon that was twelve. That's the one that that's the year when we had the helmet that looked like it was an old It looked like a leather, like a leather helmet. Those jerseys and those pants was my favorite.
Carolina.
We rode the ones with the arrow on the hill.
We wore that too, and they were they felt like I had the yellow pants with the white white jersey with the yellow helmets.
So did you like what was your favorite that was your favorite jersey set.
Up from from Washington.
Throw that throwback that we wore I think my second year with the arrow on the helmet we had to.
It was a dull maroon, you know what I'm saying.
Yeah, it was a doub burguny and I felt like they was fresh.
That was I remember that because you had you had a dull burgundy and a dull yellow pants got a dull yellow. It wasn't it wasn't nothing explosive about it. And you had a stripe on the side. On the side of the pants that I'm talking about. There was more brownish, you know what I mean. But we didn't have a strike.
Yeah, you know what I mean.
But we had a burging a dog dirt you know, burghny jersey, and we had that brownish throwback looking helmet.
It was a living helmet, so leather.
Hey, I don't even remember half the jerseys that were because fashion is not my thing.
I'm gonna say. You never look good in my or my life.
Never look good in my clothes.
Even when you dress every day, you look regularly.
All right, And just a reminder, we were brought to you by Bet three sixty five at Bet three six five. We don't do ordinary. We believe every sport should be epic. That's why we That's why we offer an NFL early payout offer. Wow, got you that one?

It was kind of vent of whitish.
Why why is it white?
Hey?
Fred just wanted to throw He like that.
We Hey that I got that, I got that repelling.
I don't listen to nothing.
He used to because Fred's canna always come into me.
So he wanted to throw. Hey, you know, you.
Know it's it's like it's like Brian when you call him b h you know, and it really bothers him. It's like, at some point you can tell it, he's gotta let it go, you tailor just why I like it because he's know that's that's so messed up.
Because what if you gotta have thick skin to be in the locker room, you got just to be around you.
Man. That's why I don't even pay him no mind when he's usually talking to you, though, because he respects you, probab, because you burned his ass.
Hey, listen, I respect all of y'all.
I always tell people this because people like to talk transhit about football player and I always say this, the fifty third person on their ross is part of the one percent in this world that plays a game that can't nobody else.
Yeah, So I respect people in a different way.
So even a player that don't nobody even remember Florida State fullback Uncle Willie, I respect him.
He ain't make me run.
That's when people say like, oh, like we could we you know, we could, like the best college team could beat the worst NFL team.
I'm like you dude, are you crazy?
You don't even know that? Like the dude on practice squad is an absolute cute. Yeah, dog, I got this. I went to a my buddy, my roommate, and when I first moved out here, this was like twenty eleven, twenty twelve something like that. Yeah, he was in like a flag league, you know, and he was like, oh, you want to come out and play? And I was like, I don't know if I should play. It only get hurt, and he was like, oh, it'd be fun. So I
kind of went out just to mess around. But I started playing and after the game they were like, man, like you're so fast, you run such good routes, like how does any win? And I'm like, bro, you know, I'm like the worst route runner in the NFL. And so people don't know. It's like it's like they think, you know, I'm you know what I'm saying, tell her because like they're talking all this about hell loving your trash and I was rotten.
I was routing that face just.
Like this, Like when you go to the gym, the fit and the dude that's on the bench come in on the basketball player's go forty on.
I got oh my god, I.
Got a real story.
I'm in I'm in La Fitness, you know, and sometimes you're just not noticeable. And now, so I go to the one up here, and sometime when i'm you know, back in Miami, I go into one in Miami. So I'm in Miami and I'm over there and I got I do everything dumb ball, especially up a body.
So I have like eighty pounders.
And so I'm doing the bench, showing up on the bench and I get a guy.
So as I'm laying back on the bench, I'm like going on.
So, you know me, I let me have been finished because I don't want this guy just standing over me.
So the guy waits, I get finished, and I get up. He says, hey, he come spot me over here. So I was like, why you come pick me out of everybody because you're the strong guy. There's a short he said, man, you are you are throwing those man? How old are you are?
You?
Like twenty something?
Hey, bro, I'm probably old enough to be your dad, like honestly, And so he said no, I said how old are you?
He said, I'm twenty four. I say, okay, I have a son that's twenty two years ago.
Yeah, said I have a son.
He said, no, get out of here.
So obviously he don't know who I am. Then the older guy who saw me.
Hein't Santana.
Hey, good to see you back.
Give me a pounds.
He was like.
The young guys like, are you Santana Santana? He said, I only know a couple of Sentenna's. It's a Santana moss that my dad used to talk about. I was like Stan, Dad, and I'm like, bro, like, how.
You just come pick me? I said, I was.
He said, I'm new in the gym. I don't know how to I said, well, your Jim etiquette is off. You don't ever stand over somebody while they got weight over him, because I say, bro.
I ain't know what you had going on moment.
Yeah, but being they was young, we took a picture and I'm like, this dude really just.
Stood over me to ask me to come spot on.
And I'm like, first of all, if you can't lift this weight, because he had like so much weight on him, I said, bro, you're doing if you came take yourself and say if you can't lift this by yourself, don't be don't do it.
Don't do it.
That's why I do dump dumb bills because I don't have to worry about nobody's and I know and I can drop time, you know what I mean.
But yeah, that was crazy.
Man.
I'm like, this is but it just goes to show you it's folks in those places.
Like the gym.
Yeah, you know, you don't realize that it's a guy and there he's an ex athlete that's probably better than everybody in here at doing what you guys are doing. Because I had a guy also tell me one time, Hey, you're going so so on your squad. You need to go all the way down. I say, Bro, you're gonna tear your knees up. You don't go all the way down on your.
Probably goes, I said.
I said, I go, I have an imaginary bench behind me. Yeah, and I'm acting like I'm sitting on the bench. And I said, you push your back out, you push your butt out.
And like you're sitting on that bench. Oh no, you who touched you? I said, Well, first of all, I'm a professional athlete. What profession you? I say, Bro? And the white dude like I'm gonna raft.
But I say, you know, if it bothered me a little bit, cause I'm like, bro, like, how would you come out your way to tell me how to do something? And then I've been doing it all my life? And then he comes down to find out who I was. Probably I saw him like some weeks later and come to me. Ohrlogized man, But yeah you was. You was a beast on the field. I say, yea, But you
try to tell me how the squat. Yeah, and I'm pretty sure your knees are messed up in mind, I asked three knee surgery, so I'm definitely not going all the way to the ground damn squad, right you.
Know, first of all, no, that's not gonna work. Me and waists don't get along.
Yeah. It's weird though, because like you're actually kind of like like if I didn't know, if I saw you just walking around, be like, oh he's kind of jacked. You must go to the gym. But you just genetically no, I look like Fred looked like that when he played fob.
Fred like a pencil. I was so skinny.
So now like his his fat is just you know, distributed through like certainly certain layers of his body that make him look like he buff a little bit because he, like Fred got fat and he didn't go to his gun and went like, oh, I'm gonna give my bicketle.
I'm gonna give him a trap.
I finally because when I played for I look like a basketball very skin because I look at it and I'll be like, damn, but it's just fat. I'm going I'm gonna go eat different.
Areas south fan soft.
Yeah, so.

hell with my dyslexia. Yeah, oh my gosh, it's tough anyway, So let's talk about this. Still four games left to play, three against teams that are plus five hundred. What do you want to see the rest of the way. I've got a couple of things here. Yeah, right, I'm gonna let's start with Uh, let's start with Ron Rivera and the coaching staff. Yeah, what do you want to see from them coming to the home stretcher fight?
Honestly, man, look, you know it was crazy.
I was talking to Jackie the other day in this sweek, Sean Taylor's daughter, and she asks the question. And it's crazy because you know, you get kids that you know, she's an athlete and we're watching the game. She was discussed that she's going on. She got a North Carolina she's gonna be a tired here next year.
But she asked the question. She's like, man, it's crazy.
Man, Like, you know, every game I'm here, you know, we kind of like, you know, losing. And she like, you know, what do the players have to you know, play for? And I was like, I'm glad you said that. I say, well, they're livelihoods. Moms immediately say yeah, this is a job, and it clicked. She's a kid, She's not realizing this is a job.
I'm like, you how to gain something? I say, Jackie, don't get me wrong.
You know, as a player, we all have the same mindset coming into the season.
Want to hun the super Bowl, you want to win the championship.
This is what we prepare for an off season, I say, But it gets a couple of games in through the season where you knew where you at. You know every player, individual player know their team's faith before that team really has met their faith. And so you kind of say to yourself, then, regardless of what's going on, I'm still playing as if I'm trying to give my team a chance to win that championship, but I'm winning an individual championship.
That individual championship is the one to keep my job, or or two to get the stats out, or three to get the accolades that come with all those things.
You know what I mean.
So that's what I explained to her, and I'm like, at the end of the day, it's crazy as it is. I listened to Michael Irving say something the other day about his number and not wanting to be retired. He was like, because every time a guy catch.
The ball, they say thinking about me and thinking.
About Mike Area. Every time they dropped the ball, they say, Mike Evan rid of quarter. So basically always getting his flowers. I'm riding into the stadium, I'm riding into the stadium and i'm watching.
I'm listening to one on six point seven.
You know, Defan you're on there, so I'm always getting it right before you come on. And I think it was Sheen, one of those guys. Sheen was on and he said he had I guess a recording of Paulton Grant talking about you know, the different things is that he's been a part of of watching his team. And the first thing he said, they asked him like, so you know what players stick out that been on teams
like this that had nothing to fight for. And the first thing said was what Santana was the guy that And I'm.
Like, I'm listening. I'm like, that's why we played the way we played.
We want to always be remembered for going out there laying on, no matter.
What job the outcome.
Yeah, So I would say what I want from the coach of staff is a youth movement.
I don't believe in losing old.
If I'm gonna start playing guy, if I'm gonna lose, I'm gonna lose with guys that gonna learn from these bumps and bruises and only gonna get better. So the kJ Henry's of the world, the Jones is of the world. I'm trying to shuffle into person. Butler's the word, like, I want as many reps as you can get playing those they are playing, so Sam Cosmy, I want to say somehow like I'm gonna lose.
I'm losing with the babies. That's just the way it is.
I think I agree with that, And I think to Tanner's point, it's just about, like how do you motivate these guys? This is this is top and those guys should be intrinsically motivated. They should understand like the situation of what's going on here, but sometimes I'm not sure. And sometimes having a guy like Ron who's been in
this situation before and can get those guys motivated. And I also just want to see if they can clean up some of the stuff on the back end, because I think that helps with the evaluation of some of the young guys, like are you teaching it correctly? Are you coaching it correctly? And I think that's something I want because I want a good evaluation of the young guys of the roster as a whole, and I don't think you get there without having kind of cleaning up some of the mess. Song like clean.
Do you mean like cleaning up the like coaching.
I think just making sure the guy, I just making sure guy, allowing guys to play fast. Because like there was moments in this game, quite honestly against against Miami where I was like, this is the best I've seen Cody Barton play. Wow, Like this is the best he's matched concepts, this is the best vision he's played with. This is the guy that when we brought him in from Seattle is who you thought we were going to get.
That's what and and and and to your point is that's why Maron said he want to simplify the defense. So you know, so basically we need to tell the viewers and listeners. Okay, so don't don't judge them yet my wins a loss, but not even by win's losses or by that last week game, because you gotta think playing against the super power offense in the Miami Dolphins.
And the coordinator been there six days and you.
Got Run just coming in.
So give Run a chance to really show what this defense can do with you know, with it being simplified and now playing a I can't say a basic offense, but an offense that's more normal.
Because like when you got guys like Tyreek has cheating.
And it ain changed the whole day.
But I can say this even to her, he gets the ball out better than anybody in the league.
You know that left hand and his left hand offense. I think people leave that out so much.
When the strength of the offense changes to the left to the right, you almost have to put your left d end.
Think about this as a d N.
We did this with chasing my tas people used to would be like, well, why month Tears ain't getting this in that And I'd be like.
Man, listen. Montez plays front side, meaning.
The quarterback snaps the ball and he's always in the view.
With Chase backside.
So like that changes when the quarterback becomes a left handed now it switches around.
So I think people forget these things.
And people don't understand some corners. Left corners can't play right corner. It's so vice and versus. So it's different.
Same with like a wide receiver who catches bombs better on the right side than he's doing the left hand side.
Yeah, I mean like the right hand right hand, Like.
Hey, we're going to go and go round on the left. I'm like why. I know I've quught him on that side, but I'm a right handed guy. Give it to me on the right guy.
Yeah, And there are guys that catch the ball coming across the middle different like if the left hands on top or whatever.
So I'm going left, I'm going like this, and I'm going right. I'm going like that. It's crazy.
Yeah, But so I was just saying, can we get that cleaned up? Can eb I guess like, help maximize sam? I always want to clean evaluation, know where the roster's at now. I think we haven't had that this year because all it just seems to be so much gray. Let's clean up the gray. Simple, Let's play fast.
And this is what I can say about me and London the defense. When we was in this situation where we knew the season gonna be over. At the last game, we played hater. We like to hate on everybody, like that's what this team got a chance to do. You get the hate on everybody.
That's safe to say we're out of it, right.
Yes, it's safe to say that the eye is black, the eyes black.
But yeah, so the other one, this one is maybe the most interesting one to me, is veteran leaders on the team, Like what's your expectation for them? And the thing for me is like I don't even know who's the guy really.
I know, I know we understand John, but but he's.
Like a different type, you know what I'm saying, And like who can focus this locker room? Like I remember early in my career, like eleven, Like there was a bunch of dudes like you know, the Kendrick Olsens, Alexander's like even reached outy to a certain extent.
I love London I used to do.
Yeah I know you did. But like but like those those types of guys, you know, they're not the biggest things, but just the leadership that came from them, they were able to kind of keep us focus, you know. And is there is there enough guy like is Mayo guy Thomas?
Yeah, I think you can lean on Logan? Uh, I don't know. You think Child's Lenno?
Yeah, I mean he's He's a guy that is is a leader. I think has the reputation of being a leader in the offensive line room. Yeah yeah, he's been around. But it is it like, does Sam Cosmy step up as a leader? Does Tyler Larson? Is he a leader?
But This is one of the thing about being a leader, and tell me if I'm wrong or right. You can be a.
Guy that's very vocal, you can be you can be a guy that's been around. But if your play isn't adding up to what you're saying to me, you can't say nothing.
Don't say yeah.
But also there, but I think I agree with that, and that's how you that's how you let That's how I.
Ain't say nothing to nobody. I'm gonna go out there on the field.
And so when I finally said something, it meant something now we like and then got out of his character.
That is strongly correlated for sure, But I also think there's a process like the guys who are the same every day, like you're like this too, so same every day, same work ethics, same approach, Like you're not up and down with it. It's like I'm here and pro same. That's also a type of leadership respect.
That that is, that is something that you look at, but that has a trends that has a transfer to the field.
Though, you know what I'm saying, because like I've seen guys that you see him like whoa boy Jacob used to talk about Taylor Jacobs all the time. We would be like, oh, you would go ahead practice and me and Champ will be like, this dude is giving us fits. He fast, he's scrolled, he's coming out of cuts. I can't jam him.
Get in the game.
He can't beat the blind man.
It's just it's just don't don't transfer, you know what I'm saying. So but basically what you're saying is you need a professional. You need a guy who's a professional that basically comes to work, show you, he bring his herd, his lunch pail, and when he leaves here you have the same mindset when you see him on the field, you know, come game day.
Because I said, maybe a Jacobyssett, Maybe Jacobyssett is that type leader.
You know you don't need to start.
He's a guy that I'm questioning, like, should we even you know, I'll.
Keep him around here? I would. I would have him here.
A long time.
We learned the quarterbacks hurt.
We learned that the backup quarterback position is because you're because the armieson want to say that because they you hear so much in the media about oh, it's Sam the guy, and should he should we do?
Should we bring somebody else in. Well, if you bring somebody else in, it gonna take a while for him too, especially bringing a young guy.
Thank you, Jacobra said, is the most seasoned guy you have here.
I would I would.
Rest assured and say, hey, if everything go eight wall, you know, like how it is right now? How they basically saying it is with Sam, you got you got a veteran who knows you know.
No, I agree with that. All right, Let's let's skip ahead a little bit here. Obviously, a guy that has had an interstring the last couple of weeks is Terry McLaurin.
M hm.
And what's your expectation for him last couple of weeks to season? Man?
This fighting out man.
Terry is a guy you know people basically say something about anything that just kind of like there for them to say something about it. And I think the most glaring thing to talk about is just he had no catches this past week. Let's talk about the game when he had in two catches. Talking about the game when he only had three attempts, you know what I mean. It's been going on the entire season. And what I would say with that is because he's playing with a young quarterback.
That's not just saying that's my guy.
And it's at times you saw him in games where we were like, okay, Sam got it. Now he knows to throw the Terry. But now it makes me believe that it was told to him that week we're going to Terry.
You see what I'm saying.
There's a I played his position for a long time, and I remember coach Zorn saying, hey, the game ball going to Santana and he no catches that game, but he went out there and played hard.
Get out my face.
But at the same time, at the same time, thank you because you acknowledging something that shouldn't happen. You see what I'm saying you as a head coach, you acknowledging that I didn't get a ball, But at the same time, you acknowledging that I went out there and played football. And that's one of the things I want to see from guys. You know, Hey, we're in a different world back then, you can do that.
Now it's all about stats.
It's all about because these office are so high powered that they're throwing the ball to everybody. But when it comes to a guy like Terry, the number of what he's being paid is always talked about now or is he a top ten guy's going to be talked about?
All this is yes, yes, yes, But when.
You got a young quarterback, you gotta you gotta kind of take these wounds, take these lecks, because any guy going to go through what Terry's going through right now, it's just.
Not Terry Johann going through it too. He don't know how to handle that time because he's so young. Terry's handling it well. You certainly say I got a lot of cardio in.
Hey, I ain't catch no passes, but I got my steps saying I take my apple, watch it.
I'm good.
You know what I'm saying.
But that's how you got to look at it. You know what I'm saying. But I say, going forward, he's still a guy. You just got to get him on out to see.
And it's so funny he's going through Santana mousisms all I'm going through the career, whole career, and h got to think about these dudes. This is what I love about him. Most receivers are divers. Terry could easily be talking to ESPN about you know what they ain't using me right, they ain't doing it. He could easily be saying these things, doing these things, lashing out.
It ain't me.
I'm worth eighty million. They just won't throw me the bout.
He refused to do it, Like Tantanna was the same way. And it's sometime it hurts them, sometime it helps them. But when it comes to that locker room, we appreciate them. We appreciate them for.
Not being the jerk, not being the diva.
So what I gotta say with Terry just keep her on chopping wood, dude, keep her on chopping wood.
And I only spoke out once about not getting the ball, and it wasn't even here. It was in New York and I was young, And the only reason I spoke out because I was forcing into a corner. You know, you know how like that, like you push that person into a corner and think he can't fight, they come out knock out two y'all, and then the other was run. That was me, And it wasn't really like in that sense, but that's how I felt. I come into the I come from by a walk through, and I sit in my locker.
And like, damn, get all this attention for to day.
I haven't had this since my since my first year coming here, and they like, so what do you feel, you know, how do you feel about what coach had to say?
So I'm like, what do you mean what coach said?
And I find out to the great firing from ESPN that Hermeler said that all you know, in order to get our office back to where we need to be at, I run out the catch. Guy needs to start showing he can run out the catch. So I'm like, damn, that was like a low blow. He ain't had to say no names because it's no other guy on his roster they can run out of the catch. So I just thought about a pause. I said, well, he didn't
say my name, so should I even be offended? And I'm like, now I'm offended because because I'm a receiver, that know what I'm going through. So let me take you back the year prior to that, I just had a thousand some yards eleven hundred yards my first you know, thousand yard season, my second year playing for them, my third year in the league. And the next year you brought in Justin mccerrn's which I love. He's a great
receiver from Tennessee. I remember what you made him number one. Now, I just had a thousand yards, brought in a guy who hadn't had number one thousand yards on his team ever, and brought him in to be a number one on this team.
And then you say you.
Run, you run, catch.
Guys need to perform more. And at that point I wouldn't getting the ball. So I just thought about it, and I didn't throw nobody in the bus. I didn't say no names. I say, well, maybe if that's what he wants, I need to line up that quarterback, hike the ball to myself, and take off because that's the only way I'm gonna get the ball going. And I go to practice that day and her, I love her. He said, all right, not yes, what we got to get it to you. So I'm like, back, coach, we're
going to the game Seattle comes to Giant Stadium. You know, I'm playing with the Jets. First half, we're going to halftime. I have seventy five yards. Look this up, I'm spot on. I have seventy five yards and two TVs. Second half, they throw me no balls and we lose the game. So that's what I'm saying.
You see us out.
So I'm not sorry. I'm bringing back to your point. Bring back to your.
Point about speaking up when I need to. That's why it wasn't a diva.
I'm not going to speak about it unless I'm forcing that coneer to speak about it. But as a professional, as a guy that you know, I'm on your team, you're watching film, give me a chance, Just give me a chance. I'm not saying throw to me all the time when I'm opening, when I'm one on one, throw the ball up.
I gotta come down with it.
And that's so I think, yeah, like, can he can he keep his nose to the grind sow? And can he keep making with limited opportunities? Can he make those players? We saw a couple in the Miami game right where he should have got the ball. Protection wasn't there. Sam didn't get there. There's adversity for him last couple of weeks. So yeah, just keep you like this.
The cornerback for the dall Is blaying should not have more touchdowns.
And here I'm just gonna keep it with you.
What they're throwing at his they throwing at him. So if he taking it, if you're picking it up, that's what I can say. They didn't wear him a hole. They had to change the guy. He was thinking. I put him over there. Maybe you get a pick over there.
Nobody cares.
