This is camping out with Zach Selby and it is swell storing probably the hottest day of the year, but the offense had its best practice with Carson Rintz and Terry McLaurin all connecting throughout the day. We had Darren Haynes from WUSA nine and our very own Brand Winstein. Let's go check out what they had to say. Let's start things off today with brand Winstein, who will be cup in the booth calling plays in the preseason and

the regular season. Bram Um. I mean, it's probably the hottest day of a year so far for us in camp. But you know, coincidentally, the offense probably also had the best day of camp that they've had period. You know, Carson Wentz looks really good today, Toy, the hindeing Galesill looked pretty good today. What have you seen from the offense? Wentz is revenge? He really I think it starts here, you know, I think eventually this had to turn a little bit. I would hope. I think we all hope

it's gonna turn a little bit. I mean the acknowledgement that there's been a lot of inaccuracy and impreciseness. I mean you'd have to be blind not to see it. Right. So far at camp today was one of his better days. I thought he had one of his best throws at the open practice. The other Terry McLaurin, He's had a couple here today and so maybe this isn't just about him.

Timing of the offense. Offensive line is settling down, receivers are getting adjusted to him, and we got a month to go, so hopefully he can keep going up and up and up. He will forget that we still have a long way to go before a week one comes. But you know, there was a lot to talk about the timing between Terry McLaurin, you know, some of the other teeples in Carson, and just like that, it seems like today it was much improved from it was, you know,

maybe a week ago. I hope. So. I mean, we just paid him seventy two million dollars, so it's been a very quiet investment so far. But you know, of all people, you know, with him not really being the star of camp, I'm not worried about him, like of all people on this team. And eventually the ball is going to come his way, and I think that that is starting to click. You've heard McLaurin talk about this a little bit too that he's even said we're trying to get on the same page here and it's gonna

take some time. And I think to be fair to Winz throughout all of this, like this is still new to him. This is a new offense. These are all new players. He's got eight million options on offense. At some point, I think, you know, everyone needs to slowdown. He's a pro seventh year, he knows what he's doing. But you know, it's impossible not to notice that there's been a lot of inaccuracy here and hopefully that will continue to change. Because today really was a good day. Yeah.

I mentioned this in a blog up posted yesterday. Is as awesome as it would be for everyone to think that it's Madden and he would just kind of go out there and just make pass through receivers. It's not really how it works. And you know, going into some of these eleven eleven periods, we had a start today.

The running game also was really strong today. I mean, what have you seen out of that group of running back Do you think you know that that trio of Gibson, the Kissick and Robinson has looked pretty strong so far. I think that's a major strength of the team. Now. I think a big priority in my opinion coming into the off season was I believe that Gibson they leaned too much on him last year and waited on him.

He got injured by the middle of the year second year in a row, that he needed some help behind him. The drafting of Brian Robertson, you know, shows that type of promise for them short yardage, maybe steal a series here and there. I think the big surprise for me with him is he's got really good hands too. So this is the third running back that I've seen now that you have options with. He's not just a banger

who's build as this banger up the middle. Short yardage back could a spell Gibson, he'll be a traditional running back. I don't really see that. Like I see hands with him too. Mckissic has looked really sharp in practice. I hope he doesn't get lost with all these different weapons out there. But they have a full room for sure. And now I think a bigger question is do they keep three or four running backs when the roster cutdown happens. That is a very good question. Because I think last

year they kept three. I think this year they they could very well keep forward depending on what they want to do with Jared Patterson. But you bring out Robinson and his ability to catch passes, you know, added back field. That's something he wasn't necessarily known for in Alabama, but he did do a pretty decent job of it, you know, in his senior year. And I think you know that a show, like you said, he's not just somebody who's this kind of go between the tackles and to get

two yards in a cloud of dust. Right, I expected to see someone who looked like Derrick Henry that's gonna run the ball up the middle. He's actually taller, leaner, So that'll be interesting to see how he runs between the tackles because he does have size, but he's gonna need to have leverage. He's gonna have to get the pads down. What I've been surprised by is the catching ability.

And I talked to John Bates yesterday. It was the same thing when he showed up here, he's our new blocking tight end, John Bates, and then when push came to shove, he's got hands. But you found that out, like after the fact because he wasn't used that way in college. And the same thing here with Brian Robertson. He was a traditional running back, caught some passes out of the backfield. Well, I think we're realizing that there's

some position flex with him too. So you also have a column coming out today actually on Commanders dot Com, and I was reading this morning, you know, before it goes out to the world, and you have some positives, some questions. One of the positives was the defensive line. And we do know we have obviously Montes Sweat as a baller, Drohn Payne is a monster, Jonathan Allen is

just intimidating to everybody he looks at. But who are some of those other defensive linemen in the depth, particularly defense the van that ever listened out to you, you know, I think you know it's going to be necessary to find an adequate replacement for Chase Young. You're not going to get I think the big playability. I think that's fair to say. But I like what Casey Toohill is bringing off the edge typically in passing downs. Now that James Smith Williams is back out here today, I think

that's a good side for him. He likely as a starter, specifically on rundowns. And when they put out this five defensive lineup, five defensive lineman formation, gary it it's about the most formidable thing I think that they can put out there. And so that to me speaks to what I think has been the strength of this team for a few years running, and truthfully is going to be

the core of the team. I believe they will go as far as the line takes them, you know, and hopefully that young will come back and be a big part of that at some point in the season. But that's where it has to be. And the other one that stands out to me, and this is from last year two. I like William Bradley King a lot. He shows a tremendous amount of energy. I think he's got a lot of juice coming off the edge, and I have a feeling if he does make the team, it's

gonna be hard. But if he does make the team, you may see him rotationally early just because of the energy he brings. Yeah, he definitely has caught the eye of the coaching staff based and what we've heard in the last couple of press conferences. You know, we didn't bring up for Dary mathis in a similar way to how Robinson is at Alabama. Like you know those Alabama guys, they need to have the full pads on really show

their skill set. And with you know, Matthis being able someone who's gonna clog up the lanes, seems like with the pads on, he's really able to kind of show that strength a little bit more. Yeah, he's interesting one because you can't miss her on pay this Camp. You can't miss Montest sweat this Camp. They stood out. I think it's overshadowed what Matthis is doing. And I think the formidable part of that five man lineup is the second he's out there. I think you see it. I'm

reserving judgment. I haven't seen a lot of him. I think he's a backup right now, and so we're gonna find out a lot about him on Saturday. I'm assuming he's going to get a lot of reps against Carolina. We'll get a first real look at him this weekend. We all right, Brandon, Hey, you guys can check out the column they brand will have on Commanders dot Com lead on Today and Bram they're doing installs and let's let's go back in the tents and enjoy a little

bit of somewhat less heat than we have. And now with us we have the ever suave and ever daffer looking Darren Haynes four Starker, anstor for WUSA nine. I mean, first of all, how are you looking fresh? So fresh? And I'll think I've ever seen you not look fresh during practice. Listen, I'm actually wearing a T shirt and shorts. But when we do this interview, I throw in the jack of real quick and I throw the pants on. No,

I don't know this, Clark kent over here. Yeah, this is like a Stuart Scott thing where he was like, always wear a suit all the time. So now I'm burning up, like I can feel the sweat going down my back. Well, it just shows you, I mean, you don't have to do a lot to look good either way. Yeah, so look the offense. Speaking of looking good, the offense also looked pretty good today, probably the best I would I'd say that they've looked all camp. I mean, what

have you seen out of Carson Wentz? He was pretty accurate today, Yeah, because you know, at the beginning of camp there was a few times he was overthrowing some guys but he was really hitting his targets this time, and this is what you like to see because they're you know, their preseason game. He is right around the corner on Saturday, and so we can get a guy like Carson Wentz, who of course that's like our main guy that we brought in to play a quarterback position.

If he can hit the targets like he's hitting today, things could look good on Saturday, especially when they put everything together for the season starting. You know, I was talking to Brandwashing about the timing over series pick with Terry McLaurin, and you know, they talked about how it's gonna take time. Honestly, it's gonna take time for them to kind of grow and develop the chemistry. Do you think that they've taken a step forward today human Arry

specifically with the timing. Absolutely. I think every single practice you work on that continuity, you work on that timing, and I think that every single day you're gonna get better. I know that sounds like cliche, with like one day at a time cliche for a reason, Yeah, but uh, but yeah, it's it's good to see those two getting that connection going. Um. You know, there's some other type of plays that Carson Wentz was hitting some other receivers.

He had a nice one here towards the end zone over there, So that timing is starting to work out. One thing people don't realize is us the defense. It's more reaction, so it's not like continuity. So the defense usually always looks good first. It's the offense that takes the time. Takes some time. So to see that kind of working out today is good for the commander's offense.

So let's move over to the defense now. And I've been really impressed with the corners, you know overall, honestly kennefull or William Jackson, who wasn't out there today, but he wasn't an individual drills. I mean, you know, do you think that they've all been talking about how great and confident they are compared to last year. Do you see the confidence show itself? I mean yeah, I mean this, Kendall Fuller was always a good cornerback for a long time. Obviously,

William Jackson, he did his thing. That's why the commanders signed him. So there's so they know. Even get a guy like you know, William Jackson, who didn't like the way he played last year, and he he switched a few things up so he can be better this season. But you got to have that confidence going going in. Those are quality corners that are there even if you look at you know, free safety like a Bob Bobby McCain.

I mean like like he is a guy who is confident that he knows that he can get the job done. And despite the numbers not looking good last year, um still on paper man. For me, I feel like this is a good defense. They just need to put it all together. Well, I mean, you know, Fuller had you know, like fourteen or sixteen pass breakups last year, one of them. Well, yeah, absolutely, yeah, yeah, I mean Super Bowl champion, I mean Kendall ken We brought Kendall Fuller back because we knew that he was

one of the best defensive backs. So on the other side, William Jackson getting he was getting more used to the concepts, uh, you know in twenty twenty one. This year he says he's, you know, feeling, you know, a thousand percent better than what he was last year. Same question similar, do you think he's Do you think that is accurate? Do you think he has a thousand percent better in terms of like understand the zone concepts as the put of the

man concepts. Well, he's a professional player, so let's let's hope. You know, we do our jobs and we try to improve every day. So let's hope that he had in this entire offseason really fine tune his play, because you know, when you're thinking too much, you don't play as well. So hopefully, now that he has one year under resbelt in regards to how this system works defensively, now he can go out there and just react rather than think,

that's all we have for you today. But be sure and check out your daily Command Center camp coverage every weekday on the Commander's YouTube channel. I'm gonna go back to my tent because I basically live here like everybody else, and I will see you tomorrow.
