Hello, and welcome back to camping Out with Zach Selby, where the endless staircase that is Commander's training camp is very much nearing the end. We're the last couple of practices here, but we are still deliving you all the best content you would ever hope and dream to know about your favorite team as the end of the twenty twenty two season, and today we gotta treat We talked to the mouth of the South themselves, Fred Smooth about the offense, Carson Wentz and a little bit about the DBS.
Let's go check out what he had to say. First of all, we got to ask you about the DVS, right, you know so, I mean, Kenny Flour, Bobby McCain, they've all been doing pretty well so far. And Kemp what have you been seeing We've been hearing about some of those guys well last year you could see the talent right.
The talent is stare you know, even at cornerback Nichols safety communication is everything and when me and Sean Taylor and Sean Spreen, we all was on the same page, we could look at each other and know when to change to play. What I'm seeing is cleaning communication. When I looked at the game the other day. I was just watching just to see all day talking audio on the same page. And that's what I see. And that's what you got to have in the defensive backfield, because
I am. I your brothers keep it, Yes, I am, and we have to play like that when we're back there. Well, you know, I think it was William Jackson to the communication of a thousand first cent better now or so you're work concerned about a little bit like the slow start that they had like in the first quarter there. No, I no, I wasn't because he's still ad the preseason right and I know the defensive cord. They're not dialing up. They playing cover three. They playing cover before, they playing
cover one just to see can you cover. They're not going out there trying to beat somebody with the pin right now, So I'm not worried about that. I want to see them in position. I want to see them talking to each other, because when I see them talking to each other, then let me know everything's gonna be all right on the back end. Like you know, we have a new member of the secondary two is here
in person, Butler at the Louisian La Faye. He's a thumper, he's a hitter, But what if you've seen out of him? The one thing I like is he could play a little bit of everything. Appreciate the safe, the coner, nickel, and he could move around. And that's what you want, Like right now, if you're in college and you play cornerback, you gotta learn how to play safety too, And I think he's what that is about. He shows you that that's the next level of it. And I'm really interested
to see how they mix him in as the season goes. Yeah, I think his versatility is gonna be so big, especially with the way he's able to like play colost the line of streamers. That's gonna be awesome. But let's going to the other side of the bar here. Now we were talking before during the Panthers game about Brian Robinson. Now we're both like his style, but what do you see out of him forty one total yards with a
couple of catches there too. Well, first of all, I think he shocked people with high natural of a catcher he is everybody couldn't they know he could run the ball? They know he likes to run down healing. What I love, I love to see him fill full like running backs that do that constantly. They wear us down, DBS, They just they just wear us down. And I think that's what he brings, Like he wanted th players. He's not great a want any individual thing, but he's good at
a little bit of everything. And that's what I would love to have in my defense, I mean my officsive backfield. Yeah, you know, he he forces DBS to make those business sends, right, you know, I make many bees. Se One thing when you get DBS to make being the seasion you and out head all right, not covering running because that's the physical part of the game. Like that's the thing about running teams. They hear you down, they wear you down by the fourth quarter. We can't tackle these guys. And
I think that's what it is. Then. That's why I think even though Robinson did so well, I still think he's gonna be a three headed monster. And then back Yeah, absolutely, I mean he still got gifts in at the slasher. You got McKissick as the pass catcher, and you got robinsoners beat like the thumper if you need to, and you know, obviously we've got a top of the guy's handing him off the ball here because he's a new guy. Is you know, Carson Wentz has had it. Seems like
he's up and down to start the camp base. Seems like he's even off a little bit now. That game against the Panthers was really Chris. But what if you think he's been improving of the past a couple of days? Yes, he and I got it. I tell people he's only been here for three four months. Yeah, let the guy get comfortable. And I'm happy for Wins because like we appreciating him one, we need him too. And guess what, it ain't nothing like a fan base to love on you.
And and this is what he hadn't had in his lads to stop and this fan base, well love on him. And hey, listen, don't say I said it, but I think it could take us to Templars. Wins. Well, you know I've been saying to everyone, is as often as it will be for to be like Madden, you can just go out there and just somebody in roster. It's not like that. See you see him going that chemistry with the receivers. Yeah, yeah, Joehun, I see him and
Joe Hun. They they they've been working together so long. Yeah, so, but not tears back in the foe. So he has so many weapons, and I think that's what's gonna be the key, and his ability to push the back out down and feel like I love terror to deal. But he ain't always had the best quarterback backs. Now he got somebody that guess what, I can run under your passes. I think it's gonna change the whole collection of the offense.
Now you bring up Johan, and as a DV, what you're giving yourself a scouting reporter guy guy like Johan, what are you saying about his strengths and how what he does well against secondary where he goes the thing with John, he wanted no receivers. Whatever he needs to use at that time to beat you, he wins, all right, So if you need to outslow me at that time, he would outslow me. If he needs to be uh coocker than me, he used. He uses it like a vet and that's what I do love, especially with him
being a rookie. So he just one of them guys. He know what he has in this Swiss arm in knights, and he knows when to use it. He's very confident and when he's not very very like loud guy, but he does his job, which is so nice. Now, going up against the Chiefs here on Saturday, what are some things that you were looking to see out of the defense and turn to the communication maybe getting off to a stronger start. What are you looking forward to? Say? I'm just looking for them to go out there and
play as a unity. I go out there and play as a unit. Nobody's keeping score. It's a preseason game, but it is a rehearsal. Let's not get it twisted. So I just looking for them to go out there be Chris, get the players in learned. I mean, no when to check, no, when to keep going, and in clean game, clean game, no flags on the field, and leave the game healthy. That's all I care about. Yeah, so I was listening to Rivera talked to you know,
I think it was JP feeling. He said, I hope they go you know full tell I hope they turn to all of her, you know, championship caliber team like the Chiefs. Yeah, yeah, oh, most definitely. Great measuring stick, yo, your great measurary stick to see where you are, to see what you got and believe me, the players are know it too. They gonna know they on the field with the Chiefs, so they're gonna be like, you know what, let's turn this thing up. Even though it's a preseason game.
Let's turn the game. And that's why I say, can we leave healthy? Yep, dick thing Fred. I always appreciate you, man. Well, this is the last edition of Camping Out with Zach Selvey. Yes, I am putting up the tent. I'm heading back home, riding off to the sunset as I prepared for the twenty twenty two season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which
