It feels like we were just here, huh, honey? We were. We got the whole family in the podcast today.
I'm sure you can hear our dogs scratching and yawning. Yawning. Yeah. Oh, yawning like they pay rent. Oh, perfectly on cue. Just a quick episode. We just brought you the episode on Kimmy Yohe. So please listen to that if you have not. So we just tuned in to the Delphi press conference where the Indiana State Police, the Carroll County Sheriff, and the Carroll County Prosecutor all spoke and gave updates. So just a little spoiler alert right off the top.
Not a lot was given, no new details surrounding this case, but I think there were some important things spoken about that I just want to briefly go over and give you guys an update since we promised one. First up, the Indiana State Police Superintendent, Doug Carter, who has been on the case since the beginning, he spoke first and he said that, quote, today was not a day to celebrate, but this is a day for remembering Abby and Libby.
It's kind of interesting that they said that and pretty much the whole time they were just like congratulating the police officers who like did their jobs. Yeah. That's... Is that usually what a press conference is where they're just like, hey, these cops did what they were supposed to? I was expecting a lot of that here. A lot of thanking of local police, state police, and federal police. So that was a lot of the press conference was just them thanking everybody who had been involved.
This is the one part of like where I've always have been super interested in true crime and following investigations, but this is like one area where I've just never really paid attention to, like the press conferences and stuff. Yeah. So it was a lot of just like jargon to me. Yeah. It was interesting to watch. So Doug Carter announced that Richard Allen has been arrested. He is at this time charged with two counts of murder.
No additional charges at this time, but the main thing that I got out of this press conference is that they are still investigating. So it seems like the police do not think that this is all wrapped up with a bow. What I was gathering is that they think that there was definitely another person involved. Yes. And I do too. I think it's probably, even if it's two smaller people that you are murdering, I would imagine it's hard to kill two people at one time.
Yeah. And I said that in our episode about Abby and Libby. Yeah. Yeah. So Doug Carter, he said that if any other person or persons are involved in this, they will be held accountable, which I thought was interesting. So it does leave open the possibility of more than two people involved. Yeah. He asked that everyone continue to report tips. And then the Carroll County Sheriff, Tom Lezobey, I think that's how you say his last name. He got up and really just thanked investigators and that was it.
He did not speak that long at all. And then finally the Carroll County Prosecutor got up and his name is Nicholas McCleland. And again, no real details here. The arrest warrant has been sealed at this time and the probable cause and charging evidence that is all still sealed. And there will be a public hearing to see if it will remain sealed. Obviously news agencies have filed an appeal because this is typically public information.
And they even said in the press conference that it is not typical and this is unusual for them not to give the booking evidence, what the probable cause was that led the judge to sign off on the arrest warrant. Correct. If Richard Allen pleads guilty, there won't be a, like a, can you help me with the word? Trial? Yeah. Right. So right now he has entered a not guilty plea, but that could change.
And it all really depends on what the prosecutor wants to do and what the state wants to do because Indiana is a death penalty state. The death penalty potentially could be on the table. And if that's the case, trials have to go forward. But again, that's really premature. They haven't spoken anything about that. So as of right now, he hasn't, he's entered a not guilty plea. So this sick fuck just hiding in plain sight. Well he is innocent until proven guilty. Look at Adan Syed, right?
He just got out for 23 years in jail. So innocent until proven guilty, we don't have any of the evidence to say, but like, yeah, if he did this, he's been hiding in plain sight the entire time. Potentially there is some pretrial that would be happening in January, I believe. And then March 20th could be the official start of the trial. And then the press conference went into questions from reporters and there were some really great questions. It was pretty difficult to hear.
Yeah, they were so quiet. They didn't even like pass around a mic for them. No, I mean, they're sitting in a Methodist church like in town. So it's not, you know, equipped with maybe a PA system. Like it's pretty small. It's a small community. And yeah, the police do not repeat the question before they answer it. So it makes it very difficult to know what they are responding to. But I was able to hear some of it. So again, we didn't get any information.
Reporters asked, when did Richard Allen become a suspect? They didn't want to give out any of that. They asked, was it investigation? Was it a tip? What brought him onto the radar? They didn't give that away. They asked what it was like telling the families. And Doug Carter said it was very sad and humbling. And there was a question about if anyone else was involved. And they said that the tip line is going to remain open and the email line is going to remain open.
Yeah, they, somebody asked to explain the decision to keep the documents sealed. And the prosecutor basically said it's because the case is still open and they are still investigating it. So they don't, they don't want to compromise any of their investigation by getting information out there.
If they want to keep the trial in Carroll County, they probably don't want to taint the jury pool because it is such a small community that getting too much information into the public could potentially hurt jury selection. Don't they have to go outside to like a differing community that is like very similar to their own, but it has to be outside of that because of, oh, I can't remember what I was just listening to with another case like that.
They don't have to, but I think a good defense attorney will request that it be moved to a different County because Richard Allen. Yeah. Because it is such a small community and this became a national case. Well, yeah. And he said like around the world, like people know these like poor young folks who were murdered. Yeah. And I think this brought up some interesting points.
I think we actually learn more if we go back knowing that somebody has been arrested, if we go back to their, some of the original press conferences. So I found my notes actually from the February 22nd, 2017 press conference. So this would have been just days following their murder. And this was at the press conference where they released audio, the guys down the hill, audio that was released. And this is specifically coming from the question and answer portion during that time.
But a reporter asked something along the lines of having more audio or more visual of the suspects and the police answered. They're not saying the man in the photo is also the man in the audio. There could be more than one person involved, but it could be him. And then somebody asked that is the man on the bridge, that infamous bridge photo, is he the main suspect or a suspect amongst many? And the police said, the police can't say for sure because they weren't there.
The picture came from her phone and the audio came from her phone, but we don't know what was behind the girls or outside of frame. They're not saying at this time how many are expected to be involved. That's terrifying. No. Oh, I hate thinking about that. That they were surrounded by more than... I'm sorry. Again, learning things in real time with everyone else here.
And then somebody asked, because this was also the time where they said that this man on the bridge is the main suspect at this press conference. And somebody asked, how did you determine he was the main suspect? And the answer is the reason is based on the total evidence that he at least participated in the murder. Okay. Yeah. And then again, in 2017, police don't believe that this is tied to any other murders.
And at this time, Richard Allen, I have not been able to find any other previous arrest records for him or anything like that. So yeah, we are learning. There will be more press conferences and information coming out. But yeah, we plan to continue to update you throughout the trial because that's what we want to do. And once we have a guilty verdict, then the case is solved. I mean, Abby and Libby changed my life. I mean, they really have been a motivation for me to start this podcast.
Their case has been something that's been on my mind for almost six years. So yeah, they've become part of my daily life. And so we just want to make sure that the correct justice is done in this case, that the correct people are held responsible, and that everybody involved is held responsible. Because Libby was so quick to pull out her phone and begin recording. She's basically handed investigators a golden ticket and every person deserves justice, but Libby deserves... They bought, yeah.
Yeah, they deserve justice for this heroic last action that they had to help investigators. They really deserve to see it. Yeah, it's so interesting placing the word heroic in front of something that you should never have to do. Yeah. I guess that's why it's heroic. Yeah. I mean, nobody knows how they're going to react in that situation. You can think a hundred different ways, but she had the presence of mind to say, like, let me get this guy. Yeah. Let me get this motherfucker. So got him.
Got you, girl. We got you, girl. Got you, girl. Snatched. Yeah. Snatched off the street. Snatched. That... I know you said innocent until proven guilty, but I saw that dang old mugshot and I was like... It looks a lot like that first sketch that police released. It really does. It looks like someone... It looks like the men who have always terrified me. I know that's maybe a little generalized, but it's true. He looks like the men that we were taught to fear.
But at the same time, he also looks like... I just think a dad. A bunch of people's dads, I know. Especially having lived in that area, I'm like... Yeah, but think about how many friends' dads you were afraid of also. Yeah. Yeah. Just looks like a fucking middle-aged, Midwest white dude with the creepiest eyes. So yeah, we... We're just talking shit. Yeah, we're just talking shit about him. But yeah, just a quick little bonus episode for y'all. Happy Halloween.
Christmas is coming out on Halloween. Please, please, please be safe. Be safe tonight. If you're going out trick or treating, make sure all your little ones are close by you because more kids get hit by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year. So that is the real danger tonight. You're participating in legal recreational activities. Make sure you have a safe ride home. Have a buddy system. And go ahead and take your jacket because it's going to be cold.
I know it doesn't go with the costume. It's not on theme. Also, we promise you nothing good happens after 2 a.m. Oh my God, no. Go home, girl. On a Monday? Go home. Bye. Nothing good is happening, I promise. Okay y'all. That's all we have for you now. Have a great rest of your week.
