It's time for coffee and company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day. Now here's Nick Coffee. If you woke up this morning and you were right away impacted by the outage that caused some technological issues throughout the country, you might have assumed that the internet broke because of what happened last night
with Hulk Cogan and Kid Rock and just that whole circus. Again not talking politics, but like, just that whole thing last night was wild, But it was not that it was, you know, apparently a company that I never heard of that is super, super important to a lot of things we
rely on in everyday life. But I still feel like, you know, for the most part, the reaction to it was not as as you know, the reaction was a little stronger than the overall impact is certainly the longevity of it, because right now it seems like things are you know, up
and running and working the way they're supposed to. However, I guess the airports are are still struggling because of all the flight cancelations and whatnot, which, as I said earlier sarcastically, of course, I imagine everyone was really calm and understanding with it the airports today, given the fact that we had you know, countless flight cancelations and all that kind of stuff which we may have, we may have to get to this here within the next uh well
before we get out of here for the weekend. Because we were talking at the end of the show about you know, jobs and positions where people really just get off on the power, like a power trip kind of job. It's not lucrative, but man, you accept the pay whatever it is because you've got that power. We've had a lot of people tech and tweeting in different jobs that are like that, and people who work at an airport absolutely fit that. So I do want to save that for a little bit later.
But anyways, back to the uh the worldwide outage, I mean it, uh. I just assumed that, like, if it's as severe as there as they're saying, CrowdStrike being down and it being maybe the biggest you know, tech outage in the history of the world, then like maybe we don't have to work today. I thought we were going to get a free day off work, because if we've had this kind of an impact technologically, you know, how can we be on the radio? But luckily we're good
we didn't have any issues here. Yeah, it says the airports, banks and certain businesses were impacted the most. It looks like and and hospitals, which, of course that's kind of scary. But yeah, I think the scare uh was gone for a lot of people not too long after realizing it happened, especially around here, because again I'm sure there are some that were affected by but overall, it's like it was pretty minimal compared to the everybody
losing their mind this morning. All right, it's coffee and Company hour number three, five o'clock hour here on a Friday. Let's finish strong before we get out of here for the weekend. Once again, I'll encourage if you haven't got your ticket chet go get them for the TBT Louisville. We'll be hosting at Freedom Hall tomorrow for the second consecutive season, taking on this Bellerman team, and I imagine they're getting close to selling this, not selling out,
but breaking the record. I don't think they're gonna sell out, and I don't even know if that's possible, but I do think they'll break the record for attendance. And if they're gonna do it, I feel like it would be the Saturday game at one o'clock because their next game will be let's
see, they'll play on and pull up their region here. They will play on it looks like Monday, Yeah, Monday at seven, which I guess you could still potentially get a decent crowd there, but I just feel like Saturday afternoon, one o'clock that's the best chance for you to get a huge crowd. And I think they'll be a huge crowd already, but I'm hoping it's one that breaks the record. And I don't know why I care so much about that, because it doesn't mean. It's not like something you're gonna
hang a banner for or anything like that. But I've always felt like this TBT event that has grown in popularity every year, it could really be something that we really make our event meaning to where when it you know, when people who do love basketball, they get into it every year they know Louisville is gonna have a team they're gonna host, and they're gonna be pretty good, and they're gonna have a great crowd because you know, this is the
kind of I mean, we are unique, meaning that we love college basketball more than most. It's popular elsewhere. But for the most part, you know, we we love it more than anybody, We watch it more than anybody, and we probably follow former players more than anybody. And that's exactly what this is. Former players for Louisville and again Lexington. They've I don't know what their crowd's gonna look like, but they've got a good team.
And you know they're in that same boat right if they can get a team every year. I wouldn't be shocked if they every year have one of the best rosters and also have you know, some of the best turnouts. So again, it's already going on right now. There's games that have already taken place, not yet here in Louisville, but they'll play later tonight and again tomorrow at one o'clock. That is when Louisville will take on this this Bellerman team. So get your tickets if you haven't, and I hope to see
you there. Gorgey Jang is in town. For those who've seen the picture that is circulating on Twitter, it was great to see it, you know, nearly brought it to here to my eye, seeing Gorky Jang all grown up now working in the front office with the Spurs and he's back supporting his guys. That picture of him and Russ Smith was was really cool. So for those wondering he's not gonna play in the event, be awesome if he
did. But I would imagine he'll be there, probably you know, sitting near the bench, maybe on the bench, supporting these guys, and the nostalgia will be will be awesome. All right, let's see here the uh I was gonna do with the textlum, But I'm gonna hold off here because I'm I don't want to fall into the trap of not reading something before I read it on the air, because then that just you know, Toms, it puts me in a bad spot. But now I'm just curious about all
these power trip jobs. And the reason it came up is because we were talking about the the I guess confuse folks that think that you're not allowed to be recorded in public, and that's completely not true. It may it's stupid that, you know, anybody would want to just randomly stand around and just film people, but like technically they are allowed to do it. They're not
breaking any laws. And there's always videos of people that work security at certain places that you know, think that, you know, they're misinformed on what the law is and they end up you know, being billy badass and in bringing the cops there to arrest somebody, and they then find out that like
they're in the wrong and they got to do the walk of shame. So anyways, I just thought about other jobs that are like that, where people just kind of have like a power trip and somebody writes in here and says, ad minute work that's in charge of office supplies, No, you cannot have a box of pins. Didn't we give you a box three years ago? Like I can totally see that happening. I can think of somebody that
I used to work with at a different job that was like that. Like they you know, they had a you know, an important position, right, but they also were in charge of those kind of things and they just knew like if you needed a new if you needed a new stapler, you're gonna have to go through them, and you're really gonna have to make your case as to why you deserve one, because I've got the power to give you one, and I'm gonna need to be convinced. Somebody had mentioned hoa
people. When you say hoa people I guess you mean like the people who run your HOA, like in your neighborhood. Oh yeah, they've got to. I mean that's a thankless job. Whoever would want to be like the leader of the HOA. I mean, God bless you do that. I don't think so. See that seems like something like there's be zero benefit to
do it. You would either want to just have that power and you just you would get off on walking up to somebody's yard and saying, oh, yeah, it looks like you're uh, looks like you put a pool, but your poll doesn't fit the requirements. It's gonna have to be taken down. Like maybe people just really get off on having the ability to do that and like enforces I mean it kind of makes you like a half assed cop or something, right, Like you can tell people what they can and can't
do. So it's either people who just have the power trip or it's somebody that is running to be the leader of the HOA just to get rid of the guy who's the worst. Like an anytime I've heard of somebody bringing up their HOA and like who's in charge of it, I'd be like nine out of ten times they've acted like this is the worst human being in the world,
and I have a feeling that not all of them are terrible. It's just like you do have a job to do, Like it's not I don't even know who runs the HOA in my neighborhood currently, but in my old neighborhood where we used to live, I remember seeing, you know, just these endless Facebook posts about stuff and the I don't think the guy who was in charge was really a bad guy looking to you know, be a hard
ass and tell people what they can and can't do. But you also are the guy that if Joe down the street has an issue with something that Billy's doing across the street, who's he going to go to. He's gonna go tattle to you to the HOA and expect you to do something. And if you don't see it as a big deal, then like you're just open for
so much criticism in that position. And I don't know why anybody would want to do it again unless you just want to get rid of somebody who you think is terrible or you get off on you know, power Airport people are the absolute like I mean the TSA specifically, you know, no, I mean it's everybody. It's people who work in the airline, people who work for the airlines, it's the TSA, it's the bartenders. Like I know that, like you deal with a lot of people who are pains in the
are paining your ass and just are a handful. Like I'm like working an airport would suck. But that's led to like just about everybody who works in the airport. They're not really friendly. It's foe. It's it's like fake. It's like passive aggressive politeness, if that makes sense, like saying things like please and ma'am and sir, but doing it like real direct, like a kind of like a jerk, and like not everybody is looking to be
upset at the airport. Some people are flying to go somewhere they've never been and they're on cloud nine. So I just hate that. It's I guess there's been enough bad apples that most people who work in the airport have had enough bad experiences that they just treat everybody as if like they they're going to
be again. I think it's like passively aggressive passive aggressive kindness in customer service, and like there's not really a need to yell at people in the TSA lines like backpacks off, laptops out, shoes off, Like you don't have to yell because you know by the time somebody gets up to the line to do that. Like I mean, it's just this constant yelling is not It's just not necessary. And whenever you like, know that you have like this
is one that always gets me. I love a good airport beer. It's the number one beer in my opinion, not only because it's great because you're about to travel and you're you know, getting the vibes started with cracking your first drink of the trip, but also you know, I needed to fly because I need to calm myself with a few beers just to kind of, you know, calm my nerves a little bit because I get scared. But the airport bartender knows when you have a flight boarding, and they know that
you're kind of like anxiously wanting them to come back. So you can say you need to pay, or you need your check or whatever, and they get off on knowing that you're stressed out, You're worried I gotta catch my flight. Do they see me over here? Am I gonna have to fly them down? But you also know that if you do, like, hey, ma'am from like across the way, that'll make her go even slower, you know what I mean. And they know they've got the power in their
hands. If you're gonna make your flight, oh you're gonna run off without paying, They'll tackle your ass and throw you in jail for that. It's a power trip. And the people who work at the airlines that are you know, asking information, checking bags and all that, you know, doing all that kind of stuff. Like those people for the most part, have
been kind enough. But I can just tell their their kindness and just you know, customer service whatever you want to call it, like it's it's it's not real like And again, you probably don't like your job, that's fine. A lot of people don't like their jobs. But just know this. People that work at the airport where's just where as miserable to deal with you
as you are with us. So just know that. I gotta say, I know, I know you're pro flying, and I think it's mainly because you have kids, but anytime you talk about bad airport experiences, it just reiterates for me that I have no desire to fly anytime soon. Yeah, it's look it's a convenience thing because you can get to places a lot quicker if you're going far, and that that's the real reason to do it, right, Like, you know, it's way more expensive to fly than drive.
Everybody knows that. You save a lot. You know, you spend a lot more time on the commune. Actually, you take a lot of time away from your trip. Like if you like, if my dad's driving, uh, he's going on vacation leaving I think tomorrow morning and he's going down to jack Alland Georgia, and that's like a ten to twelve hour drive. I mean, that's twenty four hours essentially of being in the car during
your vacation. And like that, if you could avoid doing that, I would, But again, you got to consider the cost, and you have to consider, you know, all the potential issues you'd run into in the airport because you're you have no control, Like it's a roll of the dice, man, if your flight's even gonna take off that day, you just don't know. And more often than not, I mean, there are way more flights that go off without issue than have issues. But you know,
it's always a risk. You never know, and you and it's it's not base off airlines. I mean, I'm sure some airlines. And by the way, the airline like reputation as far as like what's considered the the pores and what's considered like you know, high class. It is based off of like the planes and like the you know, the room, like how nice they are and all that, Like what is it spirit that you just throw
them a fifty. They'll throw your ass on the plane and tell you to find a seat, and you know, maybe maybe you're attached to thet or something. Put on a helmet, put on a football helmet. We don't know if this thing is gonna make it there, but hey, it's twenty
bucks, so hop in and we'll see what happens. Like you, But when it comes to like delays and those kind of issues, that's not I mean, I'm sure you can do a study to see which airlines are the worst, but they all have those kind of issues, and to be honest, a lot of them aren't really anybody's fault. Like sometimes that stuff. Like to be fair to the people who work in the airport, when you are upset because of a flight being canceled or a flight being delayed, or
them not giving you an update on when you're going to take off. The people you're talking to have no impact on that at all, so you know you shouldn't be a jerk to them. But here's where I think we are in society. They'll tell you that, I guess just expecting you to like there's no like, hey, I'm really sorry that this happened. Will We'll do whatever we can. It's out of my control. I know it's inconvenience
to you. Like I think if you just kind of said that, even if you didn't mean it, and you lay out that like I'm sorry, I understand this isn't inconvenience for you. We're going to do whatever we can. If you just did it with genuine like customer service, I think you'd have a lot less people who just lose their minds. I think the people lose their minds. It's because you know, the airport's really they got you by the nads, right, Like you don't know if you're gonna actually take
off. Oh your flight's canceled. Well, we can't get you out of here until a couple of days. What are you gonna do? You're gonna you're gonna have to go you're gonna do, like you can go pay for a hotel, but they may give you like a voucher to give you ten percent off, but like you're gonna do what they say if you choose to fly in the air because if they don't fly that day, I guess you can go book an airline elsewhere, but you're gonna pay more money. And
people don't want to pay more money. So you know, if you just work kind with people, then and I think you'd have people not lose their mind. But whenever it's such a blatant like, hey, sorry about your luck, not in those words, but hell maybe sometimes they do say it, sorry about your luck. If that's if that's the demeanor, regardless of what is actually said, that's gonna piss people off because they're gonna think, like, who are you don't like, I'm a paying customer, You don't
care that you've ruined by trip? And you know what, they don't care, and you know, cause it's just a job to them. But if you could, and I feel like that's that's part of customer service, is like even if you don't care, even if you're not personally bothered that somebody didn't get what they paid for. Like, I think it's your job to advocate with a company that you work for that you're apologetic and you're going to
really do something about it. We've got to the point now where they may say things like that, but the I say this a lot on the show, it's oftentimes not really what you say, it's how you say it. And the people who work in the airlines do not give a damn if you paid five thousand dollars for a trip around the country and you don't get to go and you don't get any money, like, they don't care, and they let you know that in certain ways. And that's just where I think
we are. Do you have any and I know we talked a lot about the airport stuff already, but do you have like a personal worst experience you've ever had in airport? Yes, and it wasn't with me. So we went to we went to We flew for the first time two years ago to go to Destin, and that time we were still really my son was a baby baby well he was a baby. He wasn't like an infant, but he was a baby. He's probably like just turned two, I think,
So we weren't as worried about him him on the plane. We gi him a bottle and he'll probably fall asleep. With my daughter, it was the first time she flew and she she's special needs. She's she's intellectually disabled and has sensory issues. And we like we went out of our way ahead of time, and you can you can you can purchase tickets with Allegiant and and there's an option for you to let them know that and they can be aware of it. And we had no issues, meaning she was fine and she
loved it it. Actually, I think the noise and whatnot actually kind of calmed her a little bit. So she loved it and we were good. But it was just nice to know that they were aware of that and they and they checked on us and they asked. But there was a woman behind us on the plane and I don't I don't believe that she had a special I don't I don't know her kids situation, but she had a young kid, probably I don't know, maybe three, and it was a tough plane
ride for mom. Like the baby was not was not happy, and you know, at times she would have to hold the baby when she kind of wasn't supposed to you know what I mean, Like they tell you to, you know, buckle up and stay seate, and you know, the kid was old enough to where she needed a seat, if that makes sense. And you know, there was just this woman, a flight attendant who was being a real real stickler on this woman trying to console her screaming child who
was having a really tough time. And technically they can't like make you do certain things, like they can tell you, like for example, if you get up go to the bathroom at a certain time and they tell you that, like you're not supposed to see it, but lights on. They're not gonna stop you, but they're gonna let you know like how dangerous it is in some way. So I just remember like thinking the worst of that.
Just you know, it really reminded me of someone who absolutely is just trying to show off that they're not show off, but trying to really flex that they have the ability to tell you, hey, hey, mama, you're gonna have to put your kid down screaming because I said so, and I'm in shore to this. Like she also would reference the flight and say not on my plane or my plane. I'm like, lady, I'm like lady,
you know, and it took. It was really hard. My wife and I we're not once to ever be confrontational, and we wouldn't, but it was hard at certain times not to say something to the flight attendant on their behalf, and then you know, later on when we were about to in fact, it might have been when we landed, we talked to them to the parent and you know, she was like, I've never experienced that ever, and then the other flight attendant came over and apologized on behalf of
the woman. But like, that's just somebody who clearly probably really sucks at life and hates life, and their one thing is that they can tell people that they're in control on a plane in a place where people are, you know, worried about who's in control and what they're allowed to do. You know, So the hell with that, lady. But yeah, like that's I'm glad somebody mentioned this one and we can keep this conversation going. I
don't care, because this is fun to me. Talking about jobs where people really just use the authority and think they've got way more power than they actually do. People who work in parking lots, Oh yeah, like people who control who's allowed to park where. Oh man, they they love the power they have. And you know what they always do. They call it my lot, my lot. You're not you're to park there, my lot, And I'm like, it's not really your lot, Like there's no way you
own this place. Good stuff, all right, don't go anywhere, keep it lock right here. It's Coffee and company. Feel about Thorton's on Sports Talk seven ninety. It would be too weird for me to see like college basketball, high school basketball, the NBA change you know, how you end a game, meaning like you know, when the clock hits zero, whoever has the most points wins. But man, the elam ending, which they
do in the TBT is so awesome. In fact, there's already been some games that have been decided in you know, dramatic fashion because of how you can't you can't just hold the ball and run out the clock. I mean for those who those who don't know what the elm, because it'll be confusing to you tomorrow if you've never watched the game that has this, because you know, it's just it's you know, it's not something you've probably ever seen
before until unless you've watched this. But what they do here. Let me just make sure I get it correct. Here the guy who created it as the person I believe who ended up starting this whole tournament. But you know, why hasn't it showing me what it actually is? Here? This is
really pissing me off. Here we go because apparently in the last you know, hour or so, is it Josh Selby, one of the former Kansas guards, they were down like five or six, which meant like the next point for the other team means they win, and instead he went on a you know, he went on a crazy, crazy run here. Yeah. I don't know why they don't. Yeah, It's just designed to preserve a more natural end of a game finished the elimending calls for calls for the game
clock to be shut off in the fourth quarter. A target score is set by adding eight points to the leading team score. The first team to reach the target score win. So example, if it's eighty to seventy two, the target score is going to be eighty eight. The first team to reach eighty eight wins. Once the game clock is eliminated, trailing teams are allowed
to focus on getting stops rather than preventing the clock from running out. The result this results in great defense and pure basketball possessions all the way through the end. So I mean, again, I'm not going to advocate that all basketball should do this, but it actually, as far as just a competitive entertainment, it does give you a really good finish every time for the most
part. I mean, I guess maybe not if somebody's up, if it's eighty to seventy two, it could be a game that ends in eighty eight to seventy two. But because you don't have to worry about the clock, and it's just hey, let's just buckle down and get stops, and when
we get the possession, let's go score. It's really entertaining. And you know, last year that's I mean, had Louisville not had to worry about the elam ending and the game that they lost that ended their run and their first appearance in this tournament, they would have they would have probably not they would have probably won. And you know, but that's that's that's what makes it cool. Have you ever watched a game that has this, John,
I've watched a couple of TBT games, Oh has it? Has the elam ending always been a part of the TV t because they watched they started it, okay, but so it was, it didn't exist before the before the TVT Like the guy who created the TV T n b A actually did it in the All Star Game one year, which I thought was kind of cool. I'm excited to see it because I'm planning on watching the entire Assembly Ball game tonight. Yeah, Kentucky's teams and Indiana's teams play, if you guys
are interested in watching. I know Indiana's gonna be on the Big ten network and then Kentucky is gonna be on f S two. So yeah, I'm I'm pumped, man. I mean again, I would get into this probably more than the average even when Lowell didn't have a team, But you know, now they do, and I'm hoping they can they can make a run. So trust me. Not talking politics here, but it just dawned on me because i keep seeing when I'm scrolling through Twitter, everybody's sharing the whole
Cogan video from last night. And I'm pretty sure that in my like I'm thirty six years old, and I think in my entire life, Hule Cogan has been the exact same agent, looked exactly the same. I mean, if that's the case for me, it's certainly the case for you, John. I mean you're yeah, he'sily recognizable. I mean, he looks like he had. He looks exactly the same as he did the first time I ever saw him. Yeah, I mean I don't know what I mean. How old is he? Oh gosh, let me guess. I'm gonna guess
that Hull Cogan is sixty seven to sixty eight years old. You guess and we'll see who's right you closer? Would you say I said sixty seven or sixty eight? I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say seventy. Okay, I got it right here? He is he is seventy on the spot turns out one in August. Yeah, and he just married a girl who I believe is like younger than you. I'm probably not, I'm probably exaggerating that, but oh yeah, it's former she and she's something. Uh, let me
see here, Sky Daily. Is that is that his most recent wife married in twenty twenty three? Well, I thought he just got married, like you know, look within the last maybe you know, maybe I'm wrong here, but I did see like there was it might have been like a TMZ thing, but he was you know he was spotted with his with his bride, and of course it was a story because you know she's like significantly significantly younger than him. Yeah, I guess they started. I don't know.
I'm trying to see if I can pull up rage here because that's what you all tune in for to see how old hul Cogan's uh hul Cogin's wife is. Doesn't show at least not here, and maybe maybe she's keeping it private, but if you can just see a picture of them together, I think she maybe her and Bill Belichick's girlfriend or friends could be could be. Yeah,
seventy years old. You you got it right, So he's looked so he's looked the same, so that that that also puts it in perspective those because he was old whenever I was not old, but like for wrestler, he was old when I was born, you know that many years ago. Since he's seventy all right, Uh, real quick this Uh. Sticking with the TBT our man John Fanta, who by the way, was not able to make it. In fact, he just he doesn't stop working. He
works for everybody. He was doing in the Peach Jam coverage because they have those games live on some streaming network and he was doing that and then caught it and then I don't know if he's caught a playing or what, but he he's now calling. In fact, that's what he's doing. He's starting off and that's what he was going to RUP for. He's in Lexington, so you think he flew into Lexington and he's doing the two games that are
taking place at RUP tonight and then he'll be in Louisville tomorrow. But he'd put together the top ten players as far as like you know names in the TBT, and he had not ranked. I mean, these aren't ranked. These are just ten players that you know are notable that are playing in the tournament. For Kentucky. He has two of their guys, Eric Bledsoe and Willie cauley Stein, which you know those two guys were in the NBA not
that long ago. So I mean, this Kentucky team, there's a part of me that says they're gonna be like really really good and like dominant. But then again, like any team that does this for anytime there's a first time team, they usually struggle. But Willie cally Stein, I mean I think he played for Dallas, maybe just a year or two ago. And then Bledsoe, I mean Bletsoe was a good NBA player for a little while. They also mentioned Russ and Montres Harrel and then Frank Mason the third,
who I kind of forget all about him. He played for Kansas, I mean I remember his career, but he was National Player of the Year for Kansas and he was in the NBA, I feel like for a little while. Yeah, four years in the league. And then also Thomas Robinson, who, by the way, one of the all time not busts. I mean he was a bust, there's no way around it. But he's one of the old timers for me as far as a guy that I just assumed was going to be really good in the NBA and it never it never happened.
I mean, he he was drafted with the I think he was he was drafted the fifth overall pick by the Kings and he was in the league from twenty twelve to twenty seventeen, so you know he had a but he played for like five teams in that amount of time, so it just never worked. He's been playing professionally ever since in different countries, but he was really really good in college. I thought for sure he would be a great pro, but it didn't happen. And then some other names here, Yogi
Ferrell of course for for Indiana because he's he's still playing pro. Right, Yeah, I don't know which league or country he's in. It looks like he went to Slovenia and then he also yeah, he actually won two league championships in Slovenia. And also yeah, he was in the NBA for a little while, right he played for the Mavericks. Yeah, man, so that like this is it's so hard to stay in the NBA because Jogi Ferrell. I mean, was he drafted. I don't remember. I don't think.
I think he was a late second rounder. I don't know that. Yeah, No, he went undrafted, and you know, like this is crazy to me. He was All NBA or All Rookie second team after being undrafted with with the Brooklyn the Mets. Okay, so I remember he went to the Mavericks. Eventually he was in the league from twenty sixteen to two thy and twenty one. So, I mean, this is a guy who you know was good early could find I mean it's just men guys like him
it's not him specifically, but just guards. Yeah, smaller guards are you know, kind of a dom a dozen. But he had I mean, this is a guy who in his second to last year actually no, yeah, in his second to last year he played for Cleveland and you know, averaged nine and a half points a game in his second season. That's what it was. He was with Dallas as and that's what happened in Dallas broke.
He was undrafted and ended up getting a chance with the Brooklyn Nets and ended up doing pretty well for them, and then the next year Dallas signed him and he was on a two year He had a two year run there in Dallas, and he averaged double figures in Dallas for two seasons and he started twenty one games in twenty eighteen. So you know, that's one of those things if you're in the league in the first three years after being undrafted,
you found your spot, You play significant minutes. I mean, he played twenty eight minutes per game over two years for Dallas, average double figures. It's just hard to say that in four three, four years you'll be out of the league, but that's what happens. Man. It's just so hard to stay around in the league because it's so competitive, especially as a role player, and the majority of the guys, I guess majority of the jobs in the NBA are role players. Darren Collison, he's playing in this
as well, an eleven year NBA player from UCLA. He's playing for Challenge Als and that's a team that's been around for a long time and they usually are pretty competitive. Some other names, Ryan Botwright forgot all about him from Yukon. He wasn't He was another one of those really good guards, but he wasn't quite to the level of Shabba's Napier Kimba Walker, but he was certainly a good player. And then Andre Roberson man talk about a random NBA
guy that I just forgot existed, Andre Roberson. I don't remember him in college for Colorado, but I do remember him being that random dude who started and played a lot of minutes for those Oklahoma City teams that had KD. Westbrook and Harden. And he was in the league for seven years with the Thunder and not made it back since. I guess he played most recently in the G League. But yeah, guys just kind of they just fade away
from the NBA and you kind of forget they existed. And I mean I act like it's a it's a tragedy, but I mean, look, they played. If you play in the NBA any any amount of time, you've you've done something right and you've had a you've had a great, great run. The other name mentioned here is Shelvin Mack, who I don't know. Shelvin's played in a long time. I know he's done a lot of TV work, but yeah, he's playing with the with the Butler team. So
I was ready, you're getting me excited. Oh dude, it's gonna it's high level basketball, man, and uh you can you can bet on it too, by the way. That that's yeah, I mean, that's that's what that alone makes it even. I mean, even if there was no Louisville connections or Indianda connections, I may get in just to, you know,
just because it's fun to bet on basketball. And and yeah, obviously there's gonna be teams that you're not super familiar with, and there's gonna be teams where the majority of the guys you don't know, but you maybe know a few players. But at least if you've got some level of reference, right, like you kind of you kind of know what you're betting on. Do we have a final score in the Purdue TBT game? Check it out? Yes, let's take a look here. I did have the in the
Purdue game. I'm not sure if they've updated it yet. Looks like Purdue lost. Oh my gosh, yeah, the Fort Wayne champs. Yeah, Fort Wayne Champs. Oh no, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm my mistake. Wait a second, it's my fault for asking on the spot. Okay, without myself. I thought it said eighty three. It says sixty three. So the Purdue team won seventy five sixty three. I thought they lost seventy five eighty three. So they did win, and some other winners.
As far as the local regions here in Louisville and in Lexington, there hasn't been any games that have gone final yet that I can see. But yeah, so the first game in Lexington starts at six o'clock. I'm sorry, No, there's already a game that there's a game at six o'clock, and that is the Auburn team taking on whoever the way Makers are. But there was a Wafford alumni team that played the nof not kidding. The name. Their team name is the nof inn awf and the nof one. So
then do you know that references? I don't know, no clue. The noth inn awf that like a Is that a slang way to say North? I'm guessing. I'm guessing, and I'm sounding very unseasoned right now. So all right, let's gohea and get our last break out of the way. I do want to try to finish with a little more time than we typically have. Not a whole lot more, but a little bit, because if you are somebody that is into, you know, the gaming stuff, and
I feel the need but I probably should just ignore it. I feel the need to remind people, Hey, whatever happens in this NCAA college football game, just understand that it's not it's not real. But somebody simulated twenty seasons with the current rosters that are on this game, and some of the results may surprise you. So we'll get to that in a lot more stick around,
one more segment to go here on a Friday coffee and company. Feel But Thornton's all right, So the athletic I think it was Max Olsen for the athletic. He simulated twenty five different different seasons with the upcoming rosters in this new EA Sports game, and there were a total of sixty one teams
that made the twelve team playoff throughout those twenty five seasons. The twelve teams that made it most frequently Michigan made it twenty three times, Oregon made it twenty two times, Georgia made it seventeen times, Ohio State made it seventeen times, Texas A and m made it thirteen times, Alabama twelve, U TOA eleven, Miami ten, Clemson nine, Kansas State nine, Notre Dame
nine, and Penn State nine. The one that stands out to me as the biggest head scratcher as to how would they have made it that many times? It doesn't make a lot of sense. It would be Miami and Texas A and M What do you think I mean that makes sense? And I feel like it's probably based on the fact that maybe the ACC isn't as yea as more powerful as all other conference, but also like Oregon, I think Oregon had a much better chance of making the playoff when they were in the
Pac twelve. I think the Big ten it's gonna be more competed. Like, to me, Oregon and Washington are going to have a more difficult time than the other way around. Obviously, it's going to be an entirely different yeah, style of play. But they but they still but they have a good foundation, Yeah, I think they do. But they did lose a bunch. But Dan Lanning is a guy who is expected to be, you
know, one of the guys in the future. So maybe they end up you know, but I don't think anybody in the Pac twelve that's going to the Big ten would with a straight face tell you that, like they're not entering a tougher league. I mean, the back twelve wasn't great, all right. So in the end, there were forty six teams that made multiple appearances in the in the playoff. Texas Tech, Nebraska, Virginia Tech,
Boston College, Iowa State, and Syracuse are all on that list. So that's random as hell to me. But Colorado did not make a college football playoff in any of the simulations, despite having the best quarterback in the game and a top twenty roster, which that's hilarious. That is wild because it's also just very fitting. That's what that makes that maybe the most realistic thing I've ever heard about the game, because Colorado is gonna have talent, but
like they don't win at least they had yet. But that got everybody fired up is that they were so highly ranked on this video game because of you know, two things. One, they felt like Colorado having such good numbers would make more people want to play it because of Deon Sanders. Don't know why people want to do that, but he certainly gets reaction out of folks
that I don't understand. But also it could be that people who you know go through and decide which teams are great don't really follow it that closely. But you know what, you know, they hear a lot about Deon Sanders and Prime and Shadoor Sanders that they just assumed they were going to be great. So the other snubs here from a power for programs that never made a playoff, Iowa earned zero bids, TCU came up short every time the computer
frequently fired their coach. TCUs coach is that Indiana actually played in multiple Big ten title games but could not break through to the playoff. And oddly enough, UCLA did win one Big Type with Big one ten did win one Big Ten title, but was left out that year. So in the simulations as far as as far as the the Heisman, Jalen Milroe won it four times and Carson Beck won it four times. Dylan Gabriel won it three times, Will Howard won it twice, as well as Cam Rising who won it twice,
and then on the the let's see the conference championships. So in twenty five simulations of the video game, the Big ten's most frequent winner was Oregon at fifteen, with Ohio State winning four Michigan winning three, which that to me seems I mean again, it's a video game here, I am getting caught up in like this being real, it's not. In the ACC. N C State won it five times, Miami and Clemson won at four, so did Florida State, and then Louisville only won it once. Kentucky and
the SEC. Georgia won the SEC seven times, A and M four, Florida three, Bama two, Oklahoma two Texas to Kentucky won it twice. So that's what happened in the video game simulation. So do with that what you will? Get hyped? Yeah, good hype. Have a good Friday, everybody, or a good weekend, I should say, enjoy the rest of your Friday. I'll see out there Freedom Hall tomorrow, and we'll be back at it on Monday, and I hope you'll join us right here on Sports Talk seven ninety
