It's time for coffee and company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day. Now here's Nick Coffee. Every now and then I will open up Twitter and go to the messages and then hit the message requests, and it's usually from people who don't follow you, but more often than not, it's like bots. And I mean, clearly it's like a potential scam and there are probably people that like that. Do I think it's real? But I'm just curious, like what are they gonna try to? Like, I'll read
this. One says, Hi, my sisters saw your profile while browsing X on my phone and she is interested in you. And then it's got like this weird link gwy why one five eight dot fund says open the link to complete the registration and she will take the invitation to call you remember to say hello to her. She's very shy, Like, clearly that's not real. But like if I did all that and I called, like, are they
stealing my identity? Is this going to be a hot girl that like wants money and because she's hot, they think I'm gonna I'm gonna give it to her. Like there's a lot of bot stuff on the Internet, a lot of porn bots, especially on X but you know, like what ends up? Like what ends up? Like what do they get out of it? You know what I mean? Like I would love to know who the victims are of this and what they lose, not only you know, I don't. I don't need that for me to not have to, you know,
get caught up in it. But here's another one. Let's see, Hi, I find your temperature is very unique? Can I get to know you your temperature? Does that even mean? Oh god? This says have you ever met a minor? Here? This says, let's see. There's a lot of like the weird sister stuff like Hey, my sister saw your page. She's really interested. Have you ever replied to one of them? Never? No, I usually never even open them because I feel like even open
them opening them sometimes could like get my account hacked or something. But I don't think that's the case. I think you'd have to actually like interact with them and click on them. But a lot of them that came in like last month. If I now go to those messages, there's there's nothing there, so like you know, like the the profiles like gone, so they probably I guess they're trying to shut down the bots, but you know,
it gets hard. That is the most annoying thing on the platform. That is that is X meaning that like, no matter if if you're going to go and try to just see the engagement from any tweet, it's got a lot of reaction. You're gonna have to filter through, like every now and then you'll see somebody you know, giving a good response, given a funny response, and then oh, there you go. There's some some tweet that has a link to some webcam and this girl's ready for you to click on
it. And I don't know, I just feel like, despite how horny everybody is on the internet, the amount of people who like click on that thinking it's real, it's got to be low, right, Am I giving people too much of the benefit of that out there? I feel like it's it's fairly low. And I feel like most of the people they just they're just so horned up that they can't see through it. Yeah, I mean,
I don't feel like I'm giving them the benefit that. I just think it's like a no brainer that people would know now that that's not real. But then again, here I am, you know, I guess underestimating something that should never be underestimated, because I feel like if idiots in America and the horny people on the internet, right if it truly wasn't working, I
feel like they would stop doing it. Yeah, I don't know, but all it takes is maybe one sucker, you know what I mean, Like if you put enough of it out there and somebody clicks on it and they think it's real and they give you their information or give you money, Like you know, all it takes is one All right, It's coffee and company. We are feel by Thorton's here on Sports Talk seven to ninety. Appreciate you hanging out with us on a Friday afternoon. The vibes are strong.
We've got Gorgy Jang back in Louisville, which it looks like Russ has kind of confirmed something that a lot of folks were assuming, and that is that Gorgey is now working in the front office with the San Antonio Spurs. So he finished his career with the Spurs and apparently established a really good relationship with the organization and Greg Popovich. And he was seen on Draft night if you remember they went to they showed the war room where are all the executives they
work in the front office. They gather around and they get real hyped up and clap it up and high five and chess bump when they make a draft pick. You know, it's a cliche, but it's you know, it's all the hard work they've put in in the off season to try to find out who's the future of their franchise. They just made the pick. Now we celebrate. Well, Gorgey was in there with them, and he's you
know, he's it's not hard. He's hard to miss, he says, seven foot basketball player who you know doesn't usually I mean, I don't know what everybody who works in the g in the front offices of the NBA he looks like. But you know, he's he stands out because he's seven feet tall essentially, so Russ says. He shared the tweet that the Tbtville team tweeted out that just shows the picture of those two talking, Russ and Gorgey,
and it says Gorgey pulled up to practice. All the louelmen's basketball legends are hyped about the Ville and of course it's another encouragement. They're encouraging you once again. To go get tickets. But Russ then said, just about ten minutes ago, elite of the elite came into school with my bro. So happy for him. He looks amazing in the front office. The Spurs have a great one, so I don't know what his actual position is, but we now have front office Gorgy and I kind of love it. I
feel like our boys all grown up. And if you remember John, I told my Dennisty was my favorite player. That's right, Goorgy Jang. So again another reminder, get your tickets. Let's break the record tomorrow at Freedham Hall. Seven two hundred is the record. I want to shatter it tomorrow. I don't know how realistic that is, but why not give it a shot. If you look at the tickets that are available now, I feel
like they're already close. I always say that yesterday, but there's even more tickets that have been sold since then, so they got to be getting close, at least I hope they are. There are people who are buying tickets and reselling them, but I don't know. Man, I feel like that's a that's a risk because when you do that, you're always taking a risk
because you may not have like the demand may not be there. I feel like if you're somebody out there that's going to buy a bunch of tickets to then resell on the you know, secondary market for more money, would you Wouldn't it be a no brainer that you would only do that for something that you believe has the chance to sell out or will sell out, because if not, they're just going to go get tickets elsewhere for the for the going
rate online. It like you know that everybody else can go get So I'm hopeful that the tickets that I see that aren't available are are not available because
they're they've been they've been purchased. But then again, somebody made a really good point that you know, my dumb mass probably should have known, is that if you go to Ticketmaster and you look at what's available and it shows that they're not available, it could be because tick pick has a bunch of them, or you know what are the other stub Hub, vivid seats, those kind of things, which they are for sale on all those sites. So maybe that is the case. But none of those sites that I've seen
has any for sale that are in that lower area. So that alone is forty five hundred. So and again when you go to any of the sites, because I looked at it earlier, today, they're all selling the same kind of seats, which are the remaining in the upper levels of the three hundred sections. And it's not close. It's like, you know, midway up and beyond. So I feel like a lot of tickets are gone, and I hope they can break the record. So it looks like a game's
already started. Did Indiana place tonight? And I'll be on the Big ten network? Who do they play? You know? They play Valparaiso's alumni, the crew. Why do they even have a team? I mean, no offense, no offense to to those guys, but you know, I mean they have anybody notable like that? You mean not that I've noticed on the roster that I would be aware of, for someone that I would know obviously, So Produe's team men have Mackie. They're playing right now against Fort Wayne's
alumni. Okay, so is that is that the game? So Archie Miller who played for not Archie Miller, Archie Goodwin, who played for Kentucky. I just saw somebody share a a clip of him, so I thought maybe he was playing for the Purdue team, but maybe he's playing for uh the Was that the first game today or no, it looks like we've already had some games. Yeah, I'm sorry. Archie Goodwin is with Eberln Drive,
gotcha, Okay? And they played earlier today at one o'clock, So I guess that game that game has just ended, unless this is a live score, was against Team Arkansas. Yeah, so look, it's that game started at one o'clock on a Friday. But the only reason I'm bring it up is because I saw that highlight clip of Archie Goodwin and it's it's empty, like it's not totally empty, but there's not a lot of people there.
And and I think hinkle Field House has to me it's a place that like, if it's not full, it's it was a weird echo in the video. So they'll be fans there tonight because you know, Indiana's playing, and they'll be they'll be yes tonight, Yeah, and they'll be I mean, heck, the game going on right now is the Purdue guys. I bet they've got a you know, I bet they've got a decent crowd compared to
the game that started at one o'clock. But you know, in these places, if you if you don't have a good crowd, it is kind of a bad you know, I want to say, a bad look because look, if you right now, I'm looking at a team called Evelyn Drob that's playing in Indianapolis, and from what I can tell, there's nobody there that has any Indianapolis, Indiana connections on their roster. So you know, you shouldn't expect this group, despite how good they may be, to bring out
a bunch of dudes. But you know, again, they're also the one o'clock game on a foot y. Yeah, the atmosphere just kind of makes it seem, I don't know, like this is such high level basketball for the most part that I would hate for somebody to like tune in and see a light crowd and think, all this is just you know, what is
what is this? Why are they? Why is this on TV? Which you may come to that question anyway, but it's still I mean, if this if this event took place you know, elsewhere or a different time of the year, I should say, then it wouldn't get this much attention. By the way, Everylyn Drives got a good squad here Archie Goodwin AJ Slaughter, Kentucky native who had a phenomenal career at Western Kentucky, been playing professionally for a long time. Devin Kennedy who went to Princeton but did spend some
time in the NBA. Johnny O'Bryant who played at L s U and had had a good run in the NBA if I remember correctly. So, yeah, that I guess Indiana'd have to get past this group if they if they end up moving on, so the one seed, right, Yeah, if Indiana wins, they'll play the winner of Purdue and Fort Wayne tomorrow or not tomorrow. But on Sunday, did they give the Butler team the second seed just because they're hosting? Because I gotta be honest with you, I don't
find their roster to be very good. But I mean potentially that would make sense. Yeah, I mean Rodney Clark. I forgot about that guy, former sharpshooter from Arkansas. Wow, I forgot all about him. He can fill it up. But yeah, Shelvin Max playing and I know Shelvin and he was a great player for Butler, probably one of the more underrated kids out of Kentucky that ended up having a college career a great college crash. Should they played in a national champion I think he might have played in two
national championship games for Butler. I think he was there during that time when they were on a run. So yeah, I mean I'm looking at this. I mean that roster doesn't look all that impressive for the two seeds. So anyways, get your tickets. Let's pack Freedham Haul tomorrow as best we can and break that record. Coming up at about four thirty, we'll talk to our man, mister Larry Binns, I should say doctor Larry Bins from
pro Reap Physical Therapy. You want to get his thoughts on a lot of things, including Kevin Durant has been cleared to practice with Team USA now I think he practiced today coming off of a shin injury. I don't think they're going to need him to win the Gold but obviously he'd be one of the
best players to feature for the United States if he's available. And something else I wanted to get Larry's thoughts on is the process of physical therapists and trainers given the opportunity to do that job for the United States and the Olympics.
Or other countries, you know. I mean that's a very important thing when it comes to sports, the sports medicine again, trainers and physical therapists, And I feel like if that's your industry, it would be like a dream come true to not only work in sports, but to be able to rep I mean, you're representing the United States as well in a different way of course. But yeah, we'll get his thoughts on that and and a lot
more. He actually, you know, not Larry himself, but Pro rehab Is is the official healthcare provider for this TVT team, So maybe we can pick his brain on how to keep these guys healthy, because you know, some of these guys have I mean, they're not like Peyton Siva. I'm sure he stays in great shape. He looks the same as he did whenever he played here. They're twelve years ago and won a national championship. But
you know he's not he didn't play professionally in a couple of years. So you know, I don't know if you can really replicate what you're about to do here in this tournament when you're not actually actively playing, you know, as a pro right real quick. This is something I found to be interesting and I hope you guys will as well. High school mascots. So this is another great breakdown from one of these aggregating social media accounts. College Basketball
Report CBK Report. They looked into how many United States high schools share the same team name as each Power five university. So of all the schools in the Power five, and that's the four conferences of course that you know of in both sports, and the Big East, because they are certainly a power in basketball, there are it looks like about ten mascots that no high school has, which to be honest with these, there's a couple of them that
surprised me a little bit. I'm not surprised that there's not any Sooners, right, John, You wouldn't expect there to be any Sooners, correct, I wouldn't expect there to be any Hoosiers either. That is. Let's see here. I think that's true. I think I've seen this list. Yes, yeah, they were hidden in the middle there. Yeah, there's no Hoosiers, there's no corn Huskers, there's no Nitney Lions, and there's no fighting a Liona. So five of these schools are the Big Ten. That's
interesting. So they have unique mascots, no horn frogs. I wouldn't have guessed that there's none of them. I would have guessed there's like maybe two. But there's not any Demon Deacons. I mean, I feel like that's not that uncommon of a mascot. I guess maybe I'm thinking demon and dec. I don't know, Like I figured that would be a mascot that at least a few schools have, but not a single one in the United States is a demon Deacon. No Hokies, no orange and no tar heels.
No tar heels, huh. Only one game Cock, only one Terrapin, and only one Cardinal. Keep in mind Cardinal that's Stanford. They're not the Cardinals like a lot of other schools. It has to be somebody close to where Stanford is. I would assume what would you guess? And if you've already seen it, then you probably already then you know, maybe this wouldn't be a fun game at trivia here. But there's one mascot that dominates the United States in high schools. You have to guess what it is, Okay,
Eagles correct? And I went to a school we were the Eagles, and I knew there were more Eagles than us, and I knew it was pretty common. I would have never guessed though that it again it there are one thousand, three hundred and thirty three high schools in the United States who have a mascot that is the Eagle. It makes sense though we're in the United States. That is the national bird. Yeah, right. And then the second place is Tigers with nine to thirty five, so that's a that's
a dominant lead. And in third places the Panthers at eight sixty seven. Man I went to Cliche schools. I played for the North Bullet Eagles and I played for the Hebron Panthers. But honestly, if you just like had me, if you gave me the top ten and said order them, I would have said that Tigers would be number one, which I wouldn't have been far off. They were number two. I probably would have guessed Bulldogs is number you know in there, and they were number four with eight fifty eight.
And then while Cats is at number five, Cougar's number six, Nights number seven, Mustang's number eight. Again, I was an overdeale Mustang. Free I was an overdome Mustang every school I went to. It was a surprise Mustang is a common masscot. Yeah, it's got to be from because I think it's an older one, you know what I mean. I think a lot of older high schools would have that, because I don't feel like that's very common. I feel like it's actually rare in college, but in
Yeah, and that's it. That's the only one I can think of. And then the Trojans. I think that may be like a West Coast thing. I maybe is there a high school in the state of Kentucky that's the Trojans other than Southern. The Southern Trojans just on Preston Highway, not far from you know, where I grew up. But I can't think of any other. I mean, it's not that I know every mascot in the state of Kentucky, but I feel like I would have guessed that Trojans would have
been more rare. And there's Spartans and then Cardinals. I thought, you know, Cardinals. Cardinals is still in the top fifteen. It looks like here, but I think I would have guessed that they were higher, wouldn't you. Maybe it's my bias because of Louisville, but I just feel like Cardinals is a very common mascot. We've got Barren County Trojans. Oh, Kentucky North Harden Trojans. Oh. I should have knew that. I should have known that one more than I would have remembered without looking it up.
Obviously, no chargers, by the way, in the power for where I went to school, Bullet East, none of them. There's no power for team with the Chargers. I guess you're right. Yeah, And that's kind of rare, isn't it. It feels like it. Yeah, now that I mean, it didn't seem rare because it's one of the three schools in the county that I grew up in, the Bullet Central Cooler's abilities Chargers in the North Bullet Eagles. But yeah, I guess you're right. I guess
that's not that. And you had the NFL team that's the Chargers, which makes you probably think it's more common. Yeah, Hurricanes, there's fifty six of them, which I don't know. Buffaloes. There can't be any buffaloes in Kentucky, right, I wouldn't think so. Like I I'd be highly shocked if there's a mascot in Kentucky that's a buffalo. That's gotta be like a Colorado thing, not just for the university. There's thirty nine mountaineers.
Where's that I bet West Virginia. Yeah, and they're just any really any state that or any high school that may be in a mountain range of an area. Yeah. And then some others that are really rare. You've got three hawk Eyes, You've got four sun Devils, five boiler Makers. I would have just guessed, without looking at this list, that Purdue would have been there. There would have been no other boiler Makers. Yeah, that seems like it would have been its own thing. Yeah. So yeah,
I just I found that to be rather interesting. And uh, i'd like to know what, Like I know, there's no way for us to probably find this, but the most common in Kentucky and least common in Kentucky. Oh, I bet there's a handful that at at least I bet there's a bunch of one offs, you know what I mean? Yeah, Like, oh man, there's like there's the Campbell County camels. There cannot be another camel in Kentucky, right, I wouldn't think so, Like that's a very
rare because there is there is a college. There are the Campbell Fighting Camels. Yeah, which that again not Power five level, but now I'm gonna look it up because I'm curious with the rabbit hole. So bowling green is the purple. Yeah, that's something. And again there's the Campbell County, uh, Campbell County Camels. As we mentioned Ashland Blazer, they're the tom Kats and the Kittens for the girls teams. I like that. That's I
kind of like that too. I'm sure some people will text some in because I would imagine like any other state, there's some states, there's some some mascots out there in you know, rural areas, small towns to where they just decided to be something weird because you know, why not the ballor Bombers. Oh yeah, memorial. Yeah, Ballard Memorial out there in far western Kentucky. That's near Paduca, I believe. So yeah. Interesting. All right, quick break, We'll come back and we'll chat with our man.
Doctor Larry Ben's a PRORI have physical therapy, is going to join us on the other side. So stick around right here. It's Coffee and Company. Feel about Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety. That's right, Coffee and Company live here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Field by Thornton's appreciate you guys hanging out with us on a Friday afternoon. As the weekend, it's probably already
here for a lot of you. It'll be uh, it'll be here for us in about an hour and a half and I'm looking forward to it. We now bring in doctor Larry Ben's of pro we have physical therapy. Always a pleasure to chat with doctor Ben's. And the nostalgia is already I can feel it. Larry. We've got a lot of former Cardinals back in town the TBT tomorrow. Gorge Jang is in Louisville, which has everybody excited.
Not going to play, of course for the team tomorrow. He's now in the front office with the Spurs in some capacity, but yeah, it just feels great having all these guys back in town. No, it absolutely is, and this tournament has taken a life of its own. It's really exciting for our local fans and as you said, for nostalgic purposes, but also you know, it's a good form of entertainment and for the right price,
and so be able to go back to Freedom Hall and play. I think we start out locally playing the United Team or that's right, they're called. And it's really interesting to look up some of these teams. I think we're ranked. We're seated second in that part of the bracket from what I could tell, and Team Diesels seems to be the definitive favorite for that part.
So it's funny you say that, I've looked at each commercial break that I've just found myself looking at the humongous bracket and clicking on the teams, and sure enough, and just about every one of them, you see a player that you thought, oh, yeah, I remember that guy playing in college a few years ago. So a lot of these players are still playing professionally overseas or maybe in the G League, and then some haven't played in a
couple of years. Maybe this is the annual event that they get in shape for. So it's a competitive thing. These guys want to win money, right, They'll they'll fit whatever role that they're asked to fit, just because again competitively, it's you know, I'm sure they want to get they want to stuff the statue, but obviously it's about winning some money, which I'm
sure these guys could certainly use. So I guess my question is if you haven't like when you have the five six year run, maybe playing in Europe, right, maybe even playing in the NBA like Mantres Harold, but you haven't played, like, you know, competitively in this kind of a setting to where it's a real game. You get a couple days off between games,
that kind of stuff. Like, I feel like injury prevention is something you got to be mindful of because even if it's been your life for so long, but you've you know, you've not played in a couple of years, like if you haven't trained extensively, I feel like you got to be mindful about, you know, reps and that kind of stuff. No,
that's exactly right. You know. First, a couple of things. One is we are very blessed and little will be hosting it because if you look at as I mentioned, we're not even the top seed in our bracket, and yet we're hosting, which is really a credit to the fans and to the community and to the really the legend of basketball. I think we're going to break the record tomorrow for attendance. I don't want to get my hope. So, but it looks like it's trending that direction. That's awesome.
Yeah, and we're playing and there's some good teams in this sort of region or district orherever they however, they've decided to do this. But you're exactly right. And if you recall last year, lots of players got lots of minutes, and that will be you know, sort of the norm. So you mentioned injury prevention, but there's also a lot of cardiovascular health. I mean, these folks aren't used to at least some of them aren't used to playing you know, thirty forty, you know, to eighty games a year
like the NBA does. And so the combination of you know, let's keep in mind, injuries happen when you're fatigued, plus the lack of playing time be you know, an interesting thing to watch. And based on what I can tell right now, everybody looks healthy. Got a lot of names on here, got a great roster. Some of these guys look exactly like they did when they played here. It is it's unbelievable. There's been you know, certainly the Fountain of youth. Maybe it's maybe it's the bourbon that you
know, russ sticulus is delling out. I don't know what it is, but you're exactly right. They look like they could play. So sticking with basketball, obviously, Team USA expected to once again dominate in the Olympic Games. And I think on paper, this roster is as good as any that I've seen in quite some time, featuring the best players in the world. And there are some other great players that don't don't represent America. But when you look at the collection of what we have here with Team USA, I
mean, I think this team will be dominant once again. And one of those players is Kevin Durant, And obviously I think they could win the gold without him, But it sounds like he's making progress. He's had a calf injury, did return to practice today. They still don't know if he's going to play tomorrow. I imagine again this is just something that they're being very
safe with as as as they should. But you know, when you hear of him nursing a calf and being back to practice, I mean, is it realistic to expect him to be good to go once they because it's tough to know, because again they could not play him at all and probably still cruise. But obviously I'm sure he wants to play, wants to represent his country. Yeah, No, it's a great question. Here's the thing.
We have these sort of injury transparency rules in the NBA and to some extent college now, but we don't have it during this transitory time going to the Olympics. But I could tell you we really need Kevin Durant. Hopefully it was a strain as opposed to a tear in that calf. You know, a lot of people don't know this, but he's the leading scorer of all time in the Olympics. I think he's won three. I did not know that. He's like, a yeah, he's like a savant for the Olympics.
I mean he's the all time scorer for teamsa you know upwards at four hundred and some points or something like that. He is an enabler. He's the one that will allow folks like Stephen Curry and Lebron James to be more forceful. So I think it's critical that he plays. And if you notice, there's been some some sort of hot swaps of a few of these players
in the Olympics. Kawhi Leonard is a good example, but nobody talked about swapping out Duran because you know how valuable he is to the other players and to the team itself. So with Kawhi Leonard, he ended up not he's no longer with the team pulled out, and there's been a little bit of confusion ast as far as what really led to that happening, because he's had injury history in recent years, there's no I mean, I think a lot of people realize that when healthy, he's been great, but he just hasn't
been able to stay healthy for a variety of reasons over the years. And the GM Lawrence Frank of the Clippers later came out and said that it was
not the Clippers decision or Kawhi's decision. It was more so I guess the folks within Team USA, which was kind of a head scratcher for a lot of folks myself included, how often do you mean it's I'm sure it's a tricky situation because if somebody is in fact, you know, injury prone, or they're nursing an injury and you just got to be careful because of something that had happened in recent years, I mean, obviously your employer is going
to want to keep you safe. However, you know, it's kind of I would think it would be hard for an employee to say hey, we don't want you to go represent the country and you know, try to win a gold medal. So I just I'm curious if you know of any any other situations to where the professional team that employees these guys, whether be basketball or a different sport, like they may not want their you know, their employee who they rely on to risk injury. But it's also hard to say
hey, we can't let you do that. Yeah, I think Olympics are the exception to all of these kind of rules because you're representing you know, your country, and you're representing the team. And to your point, you know, basically the president, you know, Lawrence Frank said he's not hurt. He look great during practice, and I think reading some tea leaves here. Team chemistry is so important for this team. I mean it's not a lack of talent. I mean, look at the players that are on this
US Olympic team. That is not the issue. But can the coach get the right team chemistry and culture you know built around this, which in the Olympics is more about you know, sacrifice than anything else. It's a more European style of basketb all At times, the US is tripped up in that style of basketball. But if you look top to bottom in terms of the talent level, nobody should be able to even be the same court as US. But you still have to have the right team, the right mentality.
And it's hard to tell. Maybe maybe Leonard had some you know, nagging injuries, and maybe he didn't want to practice much, who knows, But you saw some of the practices where Stephen Curry was making I don't know any you know, threes in a row, and they certainly look like they were going after it. And as I said, the Olympics, I think is the best exception because these players are going to do something during the summer.
They are working out, they are playing, and so you might as well have it organized and to some extent even getting you know, they're all going to learn if they if they have a good growth mindset, they're going to learn during this Olympic time period. So it's a win win win all across
the board for everybody, including the fans. As when I was younger, I loved hearing stories about NBA stars really kind of connecting and getting to know each other and learning from each other while playing for Team USA and that's happening now. Anthony Edwards, a guy who a lot of people think is maybe
the future of the league. You know, this is this is turning into a situation where each and every practice you hear from at least one player that is acknowledging you know this, it's this, it's this guy's turn now, like he's he's kind of the young guy that is one of the best players in the league. And it's crazy to say it, but you know, guys like Lebron and Steph Curry, they're getting a little bit older now they can still play at a high level and that's a good thing for the game.
But yeah, you know, camaraderie is something I really miss about playing sports and when I can, you know, when I hear stories of these guys again, usually they're going up against each other, but now they're all together and going to be dominant, I'm sure. So yeah, I'm hopeful that they end up having a successful trip and bring back the gold. Be a big shock if they don't. And you mentioned Kawhi, you know, a heck of a player, but obviously a guy who when he's been with
every team, he's a big part of it. But I think adding Derek White was such a great addition because he's not the star that you see on the rest of the like the other guys on the roster, but man, he played alongside two huge stars and did whatever was needed. He helped the Celtics win the title. And with Jaln Brown and Jason Tatum, you know, perfect it perfect kind of guy that that I think fits with what you
mentioned as far as chemistry. He's somebody that will not be out there looking to get twenty five shots a game because you know he can kind of do whatever you need, which again that uh, that stuff's really really important. Now. I wanted to get to something else with the Olympics here, and I'd never thought about this until just stuff kind of nerded out on the Olympics this go around, which I'm hoping to really get into and really consume more
than I have the last time we had the Olympics. But when it comes to those that get the chance to also represent the country but not necessarily do it on the field, the court, or whatever the sport is, but they're they're they're physical uh fat therapists, they are athletic trainers in that industry. How do you how do you get the chance to to to join one of the Olympic teams for the United States. I'm sure there's a lot of competition. I just I'm just curious as to how that works, because I
did a little googling. And of course, if you uh, if you you know, if you're an employee, if you work somewhere for a professional sports team, or maybe you do it elsewhere for a company, They're gonna be really proud and really pump you up and make it clear, Hey, one of our own is is is gonna be is gonna be traveling with the United States team as the trainer or as the therapist. I just it's something
I'd never thought about before. Now. Representing your country in any capacity in the Olympics is just as lead a support staff, and all of the athletic trainers and physical therapists fall under the global banner of the US Olympics what they call their sports medicine group. Keep in mind, year round at both you know, Lake Placid and Colorado Springs, they have full staffs of trainers and athletic you know, physical therapists, sports medicine folks that are that are guiding
Olympians including the Paralympic as well. So really there's that that effectively makes three sites. The best way to become a physical therapist athletic trainer in the Olympics is one of basically threefold. One is you become an employee of the US Olympic Committee. Most of those trainers and therapists will represent the US at the Olympics. Not all of them, but most of them will. Then you can get chosen depending on the team that you represent. So for example,
Steve Kerr is the he is the coach of the basketball team. He probably has the authority to bring whatever trainer and therapist he wants. That makes sense, yeah, and that in a lot of the team sports you'll see that. Then you have to remember that once the Olympics started letting effectively professionals participate.
Simone Biles, for example, and Jordan Childs are you know, the Olympic gymnasts, but they're professional athletes and so they have their own personal physical therapists that I am quite confident we'll be traveling to the Olympics as well. So those are really you know, you could be an ad hoc pick. You can be part of the Olympic Sports medicine group in a big banner, or you could be chosen by your athlete, depending on the situation. But
it's a there's a massive support team. When they show pictures at the Olympics in Paris this year, which she'll show, you know, the Olympic village, you will see incredible amount of housing of not just the athletes but their support staff. Is there an Olympics sport that you end up consuming, you
know, pretty regularly. That's not one of the more mainstream sports, right There's a lot of things we see during the Olympics that you know, you have to really look hard to find any any stream or television coverage of it because it's just not something people usually consume. That's good. What's happened though,
is you now have so for the Paris Olympics. I think you're going to have what three or four chances per day, you know, forgetting the time zone change which is roughly six hours for our Eastern time zone folks, you'll have you'll be able to pick a lot of the sports. I mean, the sophistication and streaming is allowed, if you know, I'm more interested in the decathlon, you know, field and track and you're more interested in swimming, you'll have the opportunity to pick one or the other, which I
think is a great a great feature. You know. I harken back to the old days when you just went to one channel and they televised what they televised. When they're overseas like they are, you are at their becketing call. But it, you know, just like with everything else, you've got a little bit more of customization involved, you know, kind of like if you watch the British Open this week, you know you're able to go to three or four different you know, parts of the golf course where the players
are playing in the Olympics are much like that. Yeah, we definitely have the ability to pick and choose what we watch, much more so than we did back in the day. I remember the first Olympics that I really remember a whole lot was was the one in Atlanta, and I think that's really when I kind of was old enough to kind of know what it was, and yeah, we were just glued to it and whenever they show that's what we watched. No. Absolutely, you know, there's golf this year,
both men and women, and then they're talking about the next Olympics. Having them combined as a team in some way. Wow, And I would I would actually say one of my more interesting things I like is watching the sports in fact sometimes have never even heard of. Oh yeah, you're seeing in the Olympics, like, for example, there is a men's field hockey. You know Olympics teams. I don't even know if the US as a team, But you see that, and you only get to see it once every
four years. So I'm with you, especially that one, because it's it's a sport that you've probably seen it in some capacity, but just with women mostly around here. But if you if you turned it on and it's guys playing, I think it would catch your eye. You would be interested in watching that they do. They wear interesting uniforms, and they are studs. They're big dudes, very strong, very athletic, and it's not necessarily a
boring thing to watch. But I also like watching volleyball and all the other kind of things that you know everybody else likes watching too, So it's a it's a great time looking incredibly forward to it. It's, you know, effectively two weeks of your life that you set aside to watch incredible athletes. No doub about it, Larry. I appreciate you always making time for us. Have a great weekend, sir, and we will talk soon. My friend, you too. Go TBT. That's right, Go TBD Theville.
That's right, Doctor Larry Benns from pro Rea Physical Therapy. Man, I'm hoping we break that record tomorrow. And I got to be honest, I haven't really even thought about the potential of them losing, which I don't think there's much potential of it, but you know, that would be the worst,
and that's always been my biggest fear before Lowell had a team. I remember you years ago watching Kansas had a team and it was a bunch of former Kansas legends, and that might have been when they broke the record at Wichita and they got demolished. I remember thinking to myself, Yeah, man, that would be really tough to see the legends the guy and the last memory a lot of these guys were when they won a national championship, and
if they get dusted by somebody, that would be tough to take. But hey, this team was really good last year and I think they're gonna be even better this year. So no offense. De Bellerman in the nights. I think Louisville, Sha Cruz tomorrow. All right, stick with us, We'll be with you till six o'clock. Don't go anywhere, keep you locked right here. On Sports Talk seven ninety, This makes me want to crack a cold beer. John, it's a Friday. Good stuff, Montgomery gentry
on a Friday. I love Montgomery Gentry. All right. So I got distracted during the break there with TikTok, and it's my wife's fault. She sent me a TikTok and it wasn't that funny. But then I just scrolled and I kept watching, And I don't know why I find this to be. It's not really I wouldn't say it's entertaining, but for whatever reason, I find myself in this wormhole on tik talk. That is people who are
worried that somebody in public has a camera. You know it all. Have you ever seen those videos, John, of somebody like out on the street corner, just hanging out on a public sidewalk with a video with a phone filming and people run up like, you better not be filming me. You don't have my consent. People really do that? Oh you've never seen this?
No? Oh, God. Yeah. So it's just people who honestly, they just try to get a rise out of people who oftentimes do let that for some reason, let them lose their mind and they just they you know, they think. But the reason I'll bring it up is because it's got to be one of the biggest mistaken laws out there that people just don't like. People think it's illegal for somebody to film you in public, and
it's and it's not. And what confuses me is how many people it's not even like, hey, let me call the cops and figure out if they're allowed to do this, let me, you know, google something. They just run up as if hey, what you're doing is illegal and I'll have you arrested. And that's exactly what the people who are filming want you to do, because they want to expose the fact that they actually do have the freedom. They have a freedom to do that. And there's not anything when
you are in public, there's no expectation of privacy. So if I am standing on a public sidewalk and I have a camera and it's just standing there, you don't want to be on it, don't come near it, and I have you know, why they do it they're weirdos, like they're just trying to get a rise out of people. They also try to get cops to cross the line and arrest them or you know, a crime that they're not really committing. You know, they say it that it's trespassing, but
you can't be trespassed from a public place. So like it's really a waste of time watching it. But I feel like that's one of the of all the things people are confused about as far as what's legal and what is illegal. There are an insane amount of people that just assume that you need their permission to film them, and you don't. I mean, also, there are cameras everywhere you go in the world now seemingly that are filming you.
Like, when we got out of our cars in the parking garage today and we walked in here to our studios at iHeart, John, I can think of three cameras I know that that that were on that that saw me. I don't know what they were looking at me, or they're going to tell them that they need consent. No, But like people don't get worried about that. Yeah, yeah, but exactly it's exactly the same thing. And you know, I just it's one thing if like, you know, you
really are doing something like I don't know. I just don't understand why there are so many that just automatically think, well, hey, if you're filming somebody in public, you need to have their consent and their permission, and you you don't. And it just at some point, mostly you know, older people, and I guess it's also younger people too, that just assume
I'm calling the cops. I'm calling the cops, and the cops show up and tell them they're not doing anything illegal, like they're not like there's you know, there's there's you can be upset, you cannot like it, and yeah they may be weird and you know, try to get a rise out of you, but they're not doing anything illegal. They're allowed to do that.
And it's also at times turned into where the people who get upset and lose their mind they get arrested for like assault because they'll, you know, they'll they'll grab their camera, grab their phone, and if you are grabbing something that someone's holding like that and that's their property, like technically that can
be battery or assault. So it's really stupid. But for some reason, I just get caught up in that wormhole sometimes on on TikTok, And you know, the biggest, the best ones are like the people who aren't cops, but they work like security at a place and people are on the public sidewalk, not on their property, and they come out there and they act
as if they are law enforcement and they're billy. I mean, I think private security for certain companies, like it may be one of the jobs that like probably is not a lucrative thing, but man, people get off on the power that they think they have, you know what I mean. That maybe a good topic to run down at some point, like jobs where people
just get a power trip like no other. And maybe it's not really a power trip, but just knowing you have control over a situation and you really just you know, that's what keeps you coming back to work every day, not the money. All Right, we gotta we'll finish strong in the five o'clock hour. I'm gonna give you. I'm gonna give you a guarantee that we do that. So stick with us right here. It's coffee and company.
