It's time for Coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety Holy crap, I don't know who the hell we think when we are get off our show, idiot. The kids are crying or tail off. The countries are screwing it up. Gold Play Inner Murals, Brother, gold Play Inner Murals. They're supposed to be mature adults, but they're really not. Who's the kid here? Who's the kid here? Are you kidding me? Now? Here's nick coffee? All right, let's get it started, ladies
and gentlemen. Sorry if I came in a little hot there. The last person on this studio that was signed into this computer was Shannon the dude, and usually he doesn't have the levels up full blast. And I hope, you know, hopefully we've got some things on our end to where if it is overmodulated, it won't sound so bad. But man, I could hear it in my headphones that I just digested the microphone to get the show started, So apologies. Usually I check on the levels before we get it started,
but I didn't do that today. I'm a little distracted because we are, of course in the heat of the summer, middle of July. But if you are walking around the iHeart headquarters here at four Street Live, you would think that it's Christmas. Have you noticed all the Christmas decorations I have? And I think it's cringey. I probably shouldn't say that over the air bottle like it you just said it. Well, do you understand why?
So, I'm the Christmas in July is like a thing? Well so, but it's too I love Christmas, and you know, I'm not going to complain about anything Christmas related. It does feel a little off in the month of July. But what stood out to me is that what they're doing, if you didn't know, is they're trying to motivate everybody in the sales department that, like, right now, we were given away Christmas gifts essentially in July with savings when it comes to advertising right with our clients. Ok,
that makes sense. Somebody didn't just decorate for Christmas to like that's what I thought it was. Yeah, I mean, did you really think that's why I'm so unpleased when it comes to certain things like the things that you just mentioned. Yeah, I mean, first time I saw it, because it's the reason, it's the reason I even brought it up. Is because it's not just like, hey, there's somebody put a little mini Christmas tree, like on a table that sits in front of the entire sales team. The
entire office is decorated in Christmas stuff. There's a Christmas tree, I think, like in each office room. There are stickers all over the place, like it is fully decked out in a way that I've never seen iHeart, decked out for Christmas even when it is actually Christmas time, rather it be here at our new setup or at the old setup. So they're really trying to motivate our sales team to you know, they're committed to the bit as they say, yeah, but it's I mean, I can it's to a
level that like I can kind of respect how like it. They're not going to let you forget if you're here that it's we've got Christmas in July savings
stuff offer to our clients like good good deals and whatnot. It's one thing to just say it, have it on a on an email and you know, give somebody a Christmas card and have like the little mini tree that sits on people's desk that we are I mean, we have a full Christmas tree set up in our big meeting room up there, and you know, it's it's just it's it's been that way for a couple of weeks now and it's still when I walk in every day, I'm like, I think another tree
has been added. I think there's presence here. I think, you know, maybe Santa's going to walk around the corner and surprise us. Did you really think somebody because if they were doing it just like like, do you think Joy was doing it just to be funny? I guess I didn't. I didn't really think about it being Joy's idea of I thought somebody was just like trying to sounds like an office morale type of thing. If somebody was going to decorate the office, though, wouldn't you think Joy? Yeah,
that would make sense. And I hate that you feel as if, like, you know, somebody around here was just I mean, because that would be weird, like if there's no like the Christmas in July thing I feel like has always been mentioned because there's some kind of a savings that some company is offering when it comes to like a deal. Yeah, that's when I hear Christmas in July. It's like they want you to think that you're getting some kind of a gift in Christmas. I mean, it is really stupid
if you think about it. But it's you know, it's been around a long time. But if it's you know, let's say it's April, because you know it's it's not summer, and it's not close to Christmas, You're four months, so you're four months removed from it. Like if the office would have been decorated like that, I would have I would have wondered, Okay, what are we doing here? Like this is this is kind of odd, and that's coming from somebody who happens to love Christmas time. But
I'm not kidding you. I think each day I walk in, there's a new decoration, there's a new a new added layer to our Christmas in July setup. And I'm hopeful that it really has, you know, motivated our sales team to get out and get these great Christmas deals, Christmas savings, Christmas in July opportunities in front of our great clients. All right, it's Coffee and Company. It's not Christmas. It's July, and we're still impatiently
way waiting for football season to start. However, we are just a few days away from watching some Louisville basketball. I can say Louisville basketball because it is Louisville former Leivell players. For the most part, it's gonna take place here in Louisville. But it's not Louisville Cardinals. It's former Louisville Cardinals.
And I don't know why I've got like this mental block to where, like I tell myself, hey, you know, this is not really a Louisville basketball thing, like this won't count towards Louisville getting back on track under Pat Kelce. And I don't know why. Maybe it's because, you know,
I don't want to get overly worked up for it. But it's gonna happen because we have not had legitimate louisvill basketball, meaning the games you see from you know, November to March. We haven't had good basketball in quite some time. And these guys, the TVT squad, the Ville, they gave us a great showing last year, and I think they're gonna be even better this year. I really do so. I'm excited about that. And then of course, before the end of the month, we will have some Louisville
basketball in the Bahamas, you know, real Louisville basketball. But again it's you know, it's not it's an exhibition game. But hey, it's the first first chance that Pat Kelsey squad's going to have to go out and take on somebody, and I'm excited for it. So real quick, right now, all available tickets in the one hundred and two hundred levels of Freedom Hall have been sold so I think that's roughly forty five hundred to five thousand seats.
So the lower bowl is essentially sold out. Now if you go look at ticket Master and they and then they'll show you that map that shows let's see here. I just had it pulled up. Yeah, here we go. So the lower bowl, yeah, I guess, let's see. Yeah, the lower bowl is is all one hundred and two hundred sections are are
sold out. I didn't know if they had like the seats behind the behind the goal, if they were, you know, had them open for that, because they're not like they're not staging this for like a full house because they're not going to get you know, however, many Freedom Hall holds. I think Freedom Hall at full capacity for a basketball game is like eighteen eight
hundred and sixty five. Yeah, I just looked it up. So Bellerman plays there still every year, and I think it's cap for Bellerman at six thousand, two hundred, sixty two hundred, so I guess they just do Lower Bowl for Bellerman games. And then there's also I guess some available seating elsewhere that makes it, you know, collectively sixty two hundred. I guess.
I guess what it probably is is that that's if you remember Freedom Hall for a basketball game, which you know, obviously I do, but there's probably a lot of people. I mean, gosh that Louisville's been away from
Freedom Hall for what thirteen fourteen years now. I think this will be like the fifteenth season of the Young Center, which is kind of crazy to say, but there was that the upper level, but the first few seats of the upper level that hangover area, those are actually really good seats, by the way, so I would imagine they probably have those available too, because again, that's still a great seat, to be honest with you, So
I think Louisville is gonna sell this out. I mean, we got a ways to go, but if you look and the reason, I feel pretty confident because again, the only only tickets you can purchase right now or in the three hundreds, and if you like, let's just say three twelve. Three twelve is dead Center. It's the upper level, but it's you know, it's dead Center Center Court. So if you double click on that section, it'll show you on ticket Master the available tickets that you can buy.
So let's see here one, two, three, four, five, six seven. It looks like there's a bout. I don't know. There's quite a few rows here in that section, but the only seats available in that section are in the last six rows. So you know, eighty five to ninety percent of that upper level section in the middle is already sold out or not sold out, but they've already sold those in that section, so I guess it is, you know, sold out in that section if you want
to sit close. So the three hundreds, you know, that's upper level. But each if you click on each of those sections within ticket Master,
you can see the availability and there's still plenty of tickets available. Right they're not close to selling out what they you know, I guess have staged this for as far as the overall capacity, but they're you know, I mean, I don't want to get ahead of myself here, but I feel like just looking at what has already been purchased, meaning what is not available when I look at this, like they got to be close to the record. The record is seven let's yeah, seven thousand and two hundred and two is
the record for a TBT game. So you know, just guestimating here forty five hundred, which takes up the sections one hundred and two hundred the lower bowl essentially, and then just looking at what is not available to purchase in the in the three hundred, It's like, I, again, I could be way off here, but like I don't, you know, I don't. I don't know how they can't be close if those tickets have already been
purchased. Kind of reminds me of the Louisville football sellout last year. Do you remember the conversation we kept having during that week, John, when Notre Dame was in town and it was sold out and it sold out like a week, like a week out or maybe even longer. I think it might have been like ten days before that game, because there was a lot of anticipation. Obviously, Louisville was undefeated at the time, and they you know that, and that lined up very very well for Jeff brom to get his
first big time victory and as the Louisville head coach. But if you would look at the ticket resale sites like stub Hub and ticket Master, you know, you could still buy a ton of tickets, and you could go to these sections within Ellen N. Cardinal Stadium and there was still like, you know, fifty tickets available in this section, one hundred tickets available over here, which kind of made me feel like, you know what, it's a is it a fake sell out? Either way, all tickets have been sold,
so u of LA is not misleading anybody. They don't have any tickets that they can sell, so by definition, it's sold out. But you never know, like when that happens, it could make people if you're not looking to see what's available and what's out there to purchase, you know, you might be expecting a crowd where you can't move, and then you get there and you realize it's really not close to that. Now again, you can't control that people. I mean, I'm sure there are AI bots out
there. I'm sure there's artificial intelligence that has the ability to go in and scoop up you know, mass amounts of tickets and then resell them. I know they've tried to crack down on that, but anyways, here's one more pitch to make to you guys to go enjoy some basketball and July. What
else you have to do. It's one o'clock on a Saturday. It'll probably be a billion degrees outside the nostalgia last year was awesome and it's good basketball too, by the way I mean and I we'll get into it a little bit more in the next couple of days as we get closer, but I truly believe they will be maybe much. I think they could be a lot better than they were a year ago. I don't think that's an exaggeration when you look at the fact that they added a guy who just a few years
ago was the NBA six Man of the Year. I don't think there's anybody else playing in the tvt especially not in its Louisville pod that has NBA hardware like Mantres Harral and Chris Jones. I'm not sure what folks memory of him is, just given the fact that it played out very unfortunately for him here we was dismissed from the team, and then of course falsely accused and charged
with sexual assault and it all ended up being a complete lie. But he was a hell of a player here whenever things were going well for him, and he's been a good pro. In last year, he was one of the better guards in the event overall. So you know, I'm excited, and I will say because I already know. And it's the first person that texted in today has already said it. I'm sure there'll be many more that text in and say the same thing. And that is how expensive tickets are.
Twenty eight bucks. Let's just see here, So one ticket costs twenty eight dollars. So let's say me and the wife and the kids wanted to go check out some basketball at Freedom Hall on Saturday. Four tickets would cost me one hundred and twelve dollars. And of course that is before all the fees. Is there any site that, like any resealing, reselling platform for
tickets that does not have like a substantial fee. I mean, oh no, I feel like I know Ticketmaster's gotten in trouble over the years, and for some reason I thought that they were supposed to have all of the fees out in the open. Now, before you get to the final purchasing point. Yeah, I think I feel like the day that they announced that like you no longer could have a non compete contract, like as an employer, you know what I mean, Like that, Like that same day we also
learned that airlines cannot just randomly throw eighteen different charges at you. And I feel like also the tickets. I mean, it might have been Taylor Swift or Morgan Wallen or Zach Bryan. One of them has been very open about wanting to like not ever have their tickets for sale on ticket Master because they
think it's a fraudulent company that scams people. It might have been Zach Bryan kind of sounds like him, to be honest with you, And it did lead to some type of oversight to where they were either being investigated or they were told they could no longer do something. But yeah, right now, it's twenty eight bucks a ticket, and then with all the other fees added,
it totals out to a purchase of one hundred and forty dollars. So, yes, one hundred and forty dollars just to get in is a little steep, but you know it's worth it because you know that's how much I love Louisville basketball, and I want to do my part and helping this thing, helping Louisville break the record, which I'm thinking trying to think of a plan here. I think a year ago I could probably get Moose in without a ticket because he was three, and I could have told people he was
two. And I don't know if anybody would have, you know, called me on it, and Moose, I feel like, and I don't know your son, obviously, but from what I've seen on a lot at him, well he doesn't know me that kind of thing. But anyway, oh, he knows that I work with a guy named John because whenever we went to do the trunk retreat at your church, I don't know if you remember, and he was walking around. I told him you were going to be there. He wanted to know where the hell you were. That's right,
he was the job. You remember. He walked around the car looking for you because I said, he's right here, and I'm like, no, he's behind the car. He's giving up candy. But he seems like the kind of guy if you told him his actual age, he would correct you in front of everybody, and then oh, you're able to get away with it. Oh, he'd be insulted if he said he was three. He just turned four, and he'll tell you when he turned four too. By
the way, that's a good question to throw out there. Has anybody been stopped when they fibbed about their kids age to get in somewhere, because that's that's one of those things that you really got to have a set on you to call somebody out for lying about their kids age. And also good luck
proving it, Like there's no way to prove it. I mean, even if my kid could be thirteen, I'm like, yeah, he's five kids kids, kids under five get in free, right, Like I would clearly be lying, But you couldn't prove it, you know what I mean, Like I'm not going to produce the birth certificate. I mean, I think if you really tried to do that and they fought you on it, you
would lose and nobody would have sympathy for you. But you know, like I feel like there's so many people that have gotten their kids into Louisville games rather be at the Young Center or at Cardinal Stadium that you know, because
I think it is kids, kids too and underget in free. I could be wrong, And like you did it until they were three and a half or four, if you could get away with it if they looked young, you know, when you get them bundled up and you hold That's one thing I moose is a big fella for a four year old, But like if I hold him in a certain way, he's still going to look big, but he won't look as big, you know what I'm saying. Like if I got him on the hip and I'm holding him, it'll just you know,
to blind. Yeah, won't show how tall he is. So yeah, I'm curious. Has anybody ever been called out or do you know anybody that's been called out and they said, look, yeah, we're not buying it. Your kid's not getting in here. You can go in, mom and dad, but you got to leave. You got to leave your juvenile out here. A kid ain't three, he's thirteen. I mean, I don't know. I just feel like it's one of those things that nobody can
really ever prove it. And look, people try to get away with free stuff all the time, and you know, cut corners and save money, right, everybody loves to save money and get free stuff. So it wouldn't shock me if if those who do work those gates have had to like say, look, come on, I'm not that stupid. It reminds me of one time when I went to uh to the movies when I was like, I don't know, I was young, I wasn't old enough to drink.
My wife and I we were still going to the movies, you know, because we were we didn't have a lot of money to do much of anything else. And we used to live by a movie theater. And I remember before you could buy him on online on your phone, you could actually go to like the Kiosk and do it and not wait in line, and you know that used to feel like, wow, this is they've really made some technological upgrades here. You can now just get in without you know, without
going and waiting in line and getting a paper ticket. They'll actually it'll print it out for you either way. I remember there was somebody in front of us that bought two tickets for the same movie that we bought two tickets for, and it just happened that we ended up walking in together. And it says on there like kids ticket. So this dude was like sixty and he's with his with his girlfriend who's probably a little bit younger than him, maybe
his wife, I'm not sure. And I remember thinking like they just bought kids tickets, like that might that might be that might be a way to save some money, Like I might do that too, And but I was such a chicken, like I was like, oh, no, they'll they'll probably arrest me because I'm scared of getting in trouble, you know, right, I watch a lot of prison shows, Like obviously they wouldn't be a serious charge, but like, I'm really I'm really worried about, you know,
being the one guy they make an example of her something minor. So I didn't end up doing it, but he did. And and they this, you know, young, this young employee at the movie theater just looked at the tickets before they ripped off half of them and gave them back, and it said kids ticket. And you know, they looked like almost they they looked at the tickets and told them it was a kid's ticket, almost as if like, oh, there must have been some mistake. It looks
like these are kids tickets. Uh. And this this this gentleman again, he's probably sixty years old, looked at the looked at the guy and said I'm a child of God, and you know what, they let him in and I and I think that's I think that's I think that's a badass move. I think that is a I mean like, you are a child of God, therefore you have a child's ticket, and nobody can claim that that's fraud. You are a child. I mean, we're all we're all children
at some point, are we not? That is I'm sure there's some stipulations when you actually select purchase a kids ticket that you know you have to be a certain age. But you know, it's almost like they gave him It's almost like they gave him credit for just attempting it, right. You know, like whenever you have you ever asked to order off the kids meal at
a embarrassed to do that. So my wife does that a lot because she doesn't you know, she doesn't eat a ton, and you know it, She's kind of always done that now that I think about it, and she asks sometimes and it makes me embarrassed, not because I'm like, oh, she's a child, but I maybe embarrassed is not the right word. It's more like there's a brief moment of like suspense. Are they gonna say yes,
Are they gonna say hell no? Are they gonna get upset? Are they gonna you know, most of the time they're like, yeah, that's fine, I don't care, like, just make sure you tip me well, Like that's usually the response that that people give. But you know, I'm sure there are plenty of others that have tried that and they're like, you know, yeah, you sorry, you can't do that. I mean, I guess you could do it, and they just tell you they'll charge
you more. But I'm sure there's not like a you know, hey, you can order off the kids meal if you're a grown ass man, but we're gonna charge you five more bucks. Like, you know, I don't think at that point, I don't think it would be worth it. So anyways, go out and check out the TBT again. It's a little pricey, but you know, but I think it's worth it. And in fact, let me see what I can do about maybe giving away a pair of
tickets. I think I could make that work. I think I've got a good enough relationship with Jake, the TBT PR guy, who's really i mean not just PR. He's a jack of all trades. He's hugely involved in everything related to this event, and he has been since day one. But I would and we'll see, it's Christmas in July exactly, That's what I'll tell him. Hey, Jake, it's Christmas in July here at iHeart.
Would you mind giving us a pair of tickets to give away? And you know you think he's gonna say no. I mean he might, but only one way to find out. Right now, I'm also going to try in the next couple of days to get mister John Fanta in the house here to join us in studio talk a little ball, not only if the TBT, but you know, John Fanta is a rising star in the college basketball world and he's gonna be on the call for Fox. And I kind of forgot
about this. This isn't just gonna be like on f S one or on a stream the game on Saturday at Freedom Hall with Peyton Siva, Smith Montrez Harreld, Shane Bahannen. I mean a bunch of former Louisville players at Shannano on Owaku. It's gonna be on Fox, like the actual Fox station.
Like that's kind of crazy to me. It is pretty wild, you know, Like this used to be an ESPN event, and ESPN Lowballdom and Fox gave them a great deal and Fox is gonna put them on like not just in you know, being on ESPN's great too, but like Fox is you know, it's a national network, so you know, it's a big, big event, and I'm excited for it. I'm also excited for the rest of the show. And I hope you guys stick around. We're gonna have some fun today. We do have our first guest of the week going to
be joining us at four thirty. It'll be mister Kendrick Haskins from Way three. Looking forward to to catching up with him. Something else I want to get to here before too long is the amount of money that apparently was made from this EA Sports college football game. I mean, I think now we can see why they were very interested in bringing it back. I don't think they were hurting for money, but man, the amount of sales this thing has has racked up, just what you know, the first few days.
It's crazy. Also, hot seat coaching rankings. There's no local coaches on the list. In fact, all three seem to be pretty comfortable. But I think the hot seat may not be a thing at least not like it used to be. And there's a former coach from around here that happens to be on this hot seat. And if you're a Cincinnati fan, like I think, you just have to accept it. SAT's gonna be your guy. And I'll tell you why not that we're gonna, you know, break down
Cincinnati football. But cutaf Field is actually a good example of why if you are a fan that really hopes your school can find money to pay for a buy out to get rid of a lousy coach. This new wave that's coming that's gonna make it a lot harder for these schools to fire a coach. Right, stick around. It's Coffee and Company. Feel about Thortons right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. That's right, Coffee and Company, that's us.
We are fuel about Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Appreciate you hanging out with us, Nick Coffee, that's me the company man. Mister John Alden riding shotgun this morning, this afternoon, I don't want I said this morning, sorry about that. It happens though, Yeah, it's it's a rare slip and it's it's really it's really a bad look to do it. I mean this. I mean we've been working together over a year and a half. I've been I haven't worked in the mornings in a long time.
Yeah. I think it has anything to do with the fact that, like, you're in kind of a dark room and it just could be feels like the morning could be. I don't mean I keep the light off in here because we've got no joke. Six I'm sorry, five humongous televisions in here that put off a ton of light. And then I have three humongous monitors in front of me that also put off a lot of lights. Like it's not dark in here, it could just be you know, actually it
doesn't illuminate it. Yeah, yeah, perfectly said. So you know I actually like it like that. But I have learned that natural light in you know, some kind of a window is not to sound corny, but like it's huge. It's huge for mood enhancement. Like whenever I just go to the basement in my house, which has no windows, I've got an office down there. I've got like a studio setup as well, and sometimes I can just get kind of lost in there and get stuff done, which is
what I need to do. But just if I'm down there for a few hours and I don't see any light from the windows or anything like that, it's just it's depressing. So you know, maybe that is part of it. Because regardless of morning, mid day or afternoon, the studio to me, rather be here or at the old place, has always look the same and there's never been any windows. So anyways, it's not morning time, it's afternoon, and I appreciate you guys making us a part of your afternoon
here. I also appreciate all of you who have reached out to my friends over at the Louis of Men's Clinic, because I've told you for a while now how much they've helped me, and I know they're helping some of you as well. So if you've not reached out to them just yet, that's okay. But just keep in mind there's probably a service that you could take advantage of that they offer at the Little of Men's Clinic. So fellas could
be a rectatus function, low testosterone hair restoration. I mean, they do STD testing, they do i' IV therapy, like to get you hydrated. I mean, there's all kinds of ways they can help you. And one of the things is weight loss. And I stepped on the scale today once I got out of the shower, and I was down ten pounds from before I started doing the semi glue type program. And I don't feel like I hit on this enough because there's all kinds of different ways you can try to
lose weight. There's all kinds of different diets, there's things, I mean, you know, and you can just do it if you're really, really a bad ass, you can just challenge yourself without any program to follow, any supplement, any injection. You can just you know, do it, be a badass. I've tried it many times. Sometimes it's worked, but I never, you know, I never make a big enough change as far as lifestyle to where I can maintain like a low weight that I want to
be at. You know, I've never ballooned up to be three hundred pounds. But you know, I'm somebody that at times I can really dig, you know, dig down and just work my ass off in the gym and really follow a strict diet and see results. And that's where just like a personal accomplishment, but it also feels good to be in shape and you know, feel good about yourself. But sure enough, once I've you know, hit that goal, two months go by and you know I've I've lost some
of that hard work that I put in. And that's not really anybody's fault. I mean, I guess it's mine. But more than anything, it's just, you know, it's not as convenient, especially when you get a lot going on to live in the gym and you know, really meal prep and eat super healthy. I mean, I feel like it's less convenient to eat healthy than it ever has now. If you want to, if you really want to put in work, you can do it. But like a
lot of people have time. So what I'm getting at here is that this semi glute type program, it's an injection that you give yourself each week. It makes the lifestyle change for you because you won't want to eat as much. I mean a lot of people that I know that have never had to do anything when it comes to working out or strictly dieting, and they've they've always maintained a pretty good weight one they clearly have good metabolism. But also
it's portion control, like they just don't. I mean, we eat too much in America, like the portion size for everything. We eat here in this country. I mean, it's it's it's the biggest factor in why we are a fat ass country, if we're being honest. I mean, that's just the truth. So you know, you like, I don't, I
don't diet. I mean I watch what I eat, always will, just because more than anything, when I got to be a little bit older, eating bad not only was you know, a negative thing because it would make me gain weight, but also it would make me feel like crap. So I'm a little mindful of that kind of stuff. But now like I'm not, I just don't eat as much. Like I know that I can go and split a meal at a restaurant with my wife and I'm going to be
completely full. So it changes your metabolism, it changes your appetite. You're not just gonna want to sit around and snack. I mean you might if you're bored, but it's not gonna because you're actually hungry. And that's the thing. If you do start snacking and just shoving your face with chips or whatnot, you'll start to feel miserable because you're you're not supposed to be eating
that much. So you know, I've had that happen once or twice throughout the last few weeks since I've been on the program, and it's made me realize, Okay, don't do that again. Don't don't you know, don't shove your face with food when you know you're not hungry, because you'll just have a stomach ache and you know you'll regret it. So again, I've down ten pounds in three weeks. I mean, not as if you guys can't tell. I'm sure you can tell just about you know, looking at
men. And I say that jokingly because you can't see me, but I know John's been, I mean, John's been just looking at me like he doesn't recognize me because I'm because I'm just down so much weight. But in all seriousness, Louivill Men's Clinic can help you out, So give him a call if I would. Two four four four four thousand. Check them out online at Louisville Men's Clinic dot com. All right, so this new EA Sports college football game has come up every day in the last week. I
feel like on this show, and I know We're not alone here. I mean, I think every sports show in the country is mentioning just the me. It really is one of the biggest stories in sports. That sounds crazy because it's not really a sports story, but when it comes to the culture here in America in regards to the sports we love, college football is one of them. In this video game, I think there's so many people my
age or older or maybe a little younger. John, You're a lot younger than me, but I feel like there's even people your age that are probably in this same category that, like the gaming phase just kind of faded for them, right, Like they may have a system, they may be familiar, but it's just not something that they really do as a hobby. Well, now this game has given them that nostalgia you mentioned Billy going out and splurgeing on a new system. I mean, like, there's clearly a desire
to buy this game and you know, spend some time doing it. And I'm it's weird to me, But I don't when I say weird, I don't mean it in like a like I'm not insulting anybody. And now I'm gonna tiptoe when I talk about it because I don't want any that text yesterday that we got hopefully that they didn't text in Uh, they haven't texted in since, But I don't feel as if I was ever truly making fun of people for wanting to really spend a ton of time playing this video game.
If I came off that way, I apologize, As I always say, there's things that I love doing that you guys would probably think is lame. And I'm not even saying I never said it lame to play it. I've just mentioned that I can't really relate because I've never been a gamer really at any level, right, And that's just because again, everybody has their own preferences. So this is weird to me. But it's also kind of,
you know, kind of awesome in a way. And it's another example of how realistic they make this game when it comes to you know this, what
is it called the mode that's uh Road to Glory? I mean the you've got like text messages that come in, like not on your actual phone, but like you'll be playing the game and you know, I don't know how, I don't know how it gets to that, but like a girl that you know that you met at a party has texted you, like you're tempted to do things that might not be what a student athlete should be when he's got a game coming up, and if you, you know, make a
decision that you know a lot of kids would probably make, but might be a risk as they could get in trouble, like you roll on the dice and you could get yourself in trouble. I don't know. I just think it's I just think it's it's wild. There was a guy who was sharing his and that's another thing people people could. I guess you could back then in twenty fourteen, was that the era of gaming to where you could actually
like stream it live while you're playing it. I think you could. It wasn't as big of a market as like there wasn't Twitch back then, like you could probably just actually I don't even I guess you could have done on YouTube. Yeah maybe, But now like it's a huge thing, right like TikTok and Instagram and of course Twitch. That's what Twitch is really for.
I mean, there are a million people at any moment in America live streaming some games they're playing, and I'm sure there's even more now because of this this video game that that came out. But yeah, we mentioned that the plagiarism thing. This is somebody who shared the picture they're showing their TV screen, but on their TV screen is a phone that you know has it, says Chad classmate, Like it looks like I mean, it looks like a real phone, but it says, you know, hey, I know we
had a sociology paper and presentation. Do I just found a website where people have already done these figured it'd save you some time by just using one of them. So then you got to like decide are you going to back that you're gonna do it or not? And everybody who has shared it has showed that they've gotten caught, So I don't know it is. It's not as fun if you like, you know, no matter what, you're gonna get
caught. But if you roll the dice and you get away with it, you might feel like, man, I you know, it really can let you escape reality in a way that I've never known a video game to do that. Right, Like this is next. This isn't like you know the sims or you're building the house and a family like this is like you're really caught up in the game on the sticks, living as if you're an everyday
high level college football player. It's crazy. Another guy shared this was a I can't play because these people curse all up when they play video games. I hope young kids aren't watching. But he's texting back and forth with his girl and like, you know, she's really interested in him and trying to like get him to be bad and you know, go out after curfew when the team's not supposed to be leaving the dorm. And you know, he told her that he was, you know, gonna he made the right decision,
right. He's thinking team first and responsibility priority is going to take the you know is going to lead, and you know you're going to be a distraction. So I'm going to not go to the party. Uh. And then he gets blocked like a girl texting it shows that she blocked his number. So now he's like, damn not. You know, that's should I should I have taken her up on her offer to go out and party or
something. So, uh, knowing my personality, like I might just you know, if I get into this game, I might really I might really just you know, lock myself in a room and just let that be my new life. I'm a I'm an up and coming college football player. It's crazy now, speaking of the money that was made. That's one of the reasons I wanted to bring up the game once again. So the see here
this says this is from bro Bible. It says EA Sports College Football twenty five doesn't officially get released till Friday, but the three day rollout is already underway. Early figures from the first day of the release show just how hungry sports gamers were for the first NSAA football game in over a decade. Those players who purchased the Deluction Edition, have the MVP Bundle or have EA play Access, We're able to start playing on Monday, and EA servers crashed shortly
after the game went live. I hadn't heard about that. It also says at one point on Monday night, over seven hundred thousand players were online playing the game, a figure that doesn't include those players playing offline. Think about it. If you're playing not online with other people and you're just playing, I mean like that, that's I would assume there's maybe more people doing that
than those that are playing online. But if you do the math here they break it down that just that seven hundred and fourteen thousand player figure when you consider that the Early Access package costs one hundred to one hundred and fifty dollars, and you average the two to one hundred and twenty five and then multiply you get your first day dollar figure of eighty nine million, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. So, I mean, you can make a lot of
money on video games. I'm sure there's a lot of cost that goes into it, but man like it probably I mean, again I'm referenced. I'm thinking about this for the first time, like ever, because I've never been interested in video games. It's probably something that's rather obvious to a lot of people who are in de tech into video games. But it's got to be a billion dollar business, Like I mean, the amount of money you can
make on a successful game because everybody's gonna buy it. Doesn't appear that there's like any way you can you can rip DVDs and you can you know, get an i llegal stream, right, there's a legal stream to like can I don't know, maybe there is a dark web where you can get video games without paying for them, but if so, I'm not going with a
lot of older stuff you can. That's that's the type of gaming I do, which is which is what like you could, like like you can put an emulator on the phone or computer and you can download they call them ROMs. It's you just commit, commit to something. Did you commit a video game? LimeWire in a way that sounds pretty cool. But there are websites that have been shut down. But get in trouble, John, Oh, if they come for me, then if they come for you, I mean,
I mean you you do better in prison than me. I think you got a beer that's a little more intimidating than anything, like another half a foot to really be intimidated. That really? So is it like old school games, like games you used to play when you were younger? Oh? Yeah, yeah, that be that would actually be pretty cool on nost trip, Yeah, that would be awesome. Man. You give me, you give me a Sega Genesis controller and you know Sonic the Hedgehog. I'd be
right back in second grade. Be a lot of fun. All right, We're gonna have a lot of fun the rest of the way, at least we're gonna try. So please stick with us, don't go anywhere, don't forget. You can take us with you. Listen live on the UHET radiop Listen live at seven ninety Louisville dot Com. Well, I'll come back and wrap at the three o'clock hour. On the other side, don't forget that dead four thirty, we're gonna chat with our man Kent. That's gonna say
I let's say Kent Spencer. Well, we'll have him back soon, but today it's Kendrick Haskins data Sean from Way three Sports, so we'll talk to him at four thirty right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. That's right, coffee and company rolling along here on a Wednesday afternoon. Appreciate you hanging out with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety. So thank you to uh let me get the name right here, Sean who wrote in to tell me that tick pic doesn't have any fees and you just pay for what you what you
see. And I don't know if they're selling I don't think they're selling tickets to the to the tvt on there. I don't know. Maybe they are. I don't know if you buy them and you want to resell them, maybe they're there. But we were talking earlier about the fees, you know, whether it's stub Hub, Vivid Seats, ticket Master of course, like not only are you going to pay, you know, probably a good amount for a ticket. You're also going to be hit with you know, service
charge, tax fees. You know. Heck, if you don't use the mobile and you like print them out, they'd charge you for that too, which is I don't even think that's an option on most places anymore. Yeah, I guess you're right. I think you you can print and on your own and well you could probably print your ticket on your own piece of paper that has that barcode. But yeah, like days of getting like an actual, like you know, ticket in your hand, it's not something you printed
from your printer at home. Like, I haven't seen one of those in a long time. I mean, I guess if you go to the ticket office, they do that, don't they. If they do, I'm glad because even though I haven't done that method in so long, it is nice to kind of like hold that physical ticket to something you really want to go
to. Yeah. Actually, whenever my wife and I went to Indianapolis in February and February it was January, we ended up doing the double We did the double double header, We went to the Pacers Celtics game, and then we ended up leaving and going to catch the majority of the Colts Texans game, and we didn't have tickets to the football game, so we ended up just going to the ticket office, and I remember they gave us actual tickets, and I remember thinking to myself, I can't remember the last time I
actually held a ticket, because I mean we're talking, you know, ten years plus. As far as like, when you have a ticket, it's going to be on your phone. I used to save the physical tickets I would get in as sort of like a collection. Yeah, I mean it wasn't massive, but it was maybe twenty of different things I've been to over
the year. Sports concerts, oh, no doubt. We bought tickets off the street in New York City for the Big East Tournament in twenty thirteen, and we ended up doing that for every game we went to, and in fact, we ended up we knew Louisville was going to end up knocking out
well at least we felt good about it. They knocked off Notre Dame and then and then they played Syracuse in the in the championship game, and we ended up saying, Okay, we've been Thursday, Friday, let's or we've been I guess it was we've been Wednesday Thursday and Wednesday low Wood and play,
but we still went. But we went Wednesday Thursday, and then we said, okay, we're not going to go Friday because we know tickets are going to be insanely expensive for the last ever you know, original Big East Championship game Syracuse. The New York School of course was in it too, So we ended up saving money and knowing we were going to pay a pretty
penny for that game. And I still have that ticket actually hanging up in my with some of my other U of L twenty thirteen, you know, gear I got some shirts and stuff, and I got a plaque that has like a commemorative picture of that championship team. So yeah, shout out to those that still give you a physical ticket. All right, let's see, not a whole lot of time left here in the in the three o'clock hour, but I do want to quickly bring up something that that came in.
I think this might have been from a earlier in the week during the SEC media day, but I know I know that I had I had mentioned that Nick Saban picked Texas in Georgia to be in the SEC Championship game, which is not a bold prediction. I mean, that's probably what a lot of people are project projecting given the fact that those are the two those are the two best teams. You know that that that I mean, those are probably two of the best teams in the country. And usually the SEC has a
lot of good teams. But with Bama, you know, not you know, not being quite as good last year, and obviously life without Nick Saban, they're still going to be good. I think Klein de Boor is am
I saying I always say his name wrong. I say de Boer and it's de Boor, Yeah, like a bora animal de Boor, but it's spelled like the way you're pronouncing it. And I feel like if he was coaching anywhere other than Washington and his name was mentioned more, I would it would be you know, routine, it would be something I would just know how to say. But I guess it's like PAC twelve West Coast bias. But he'll he'll be good there. Now, will he be Saban? I'm not
sure because I don't know if anybody can. I mean, Nick Saban is probably the best coach of all time. But anyways, uh, one of the players for for for Georgia, I'm sorry for Alabama. Tyler Booker. He found out that Nick Saban did not pick the Crimson Tide to go to the championship game and he didn't like that. So this is from one of the one of those that's covering the SEC media days down there in Actually I'm
not even sure where it's taking place. It's not in Hoover anymore. Is it used to be in Hoover Hoover, Alabama, which is a really random place to have it. But anyways, this is from Alex Scarborough, a college flaw writer covering Bama for twenty four seven Sports. He says, Tyler Booker bringing the heat. I asked how he felt about Saban not predicting Alabama to make the SEC title game. Quote. He always used to say, don't let some guy that lives in their mom's basement determine how you feel.
So I'm not going to let some guy who plays golf all day determine how I feel. Saban is golfing, I mean, he's living the retired life. In fact, I just saw tweet just a moment ago from Ross Ellinger who pointed out Nick Saban spends many of his mornings golfing. He hits the course around seven thirty am with a couple of hours. Within a couple of hours, his wife is texting him his deduced his do is for the day quote, I can't get to the ninth hole without getting a text of this
what you got to do the rest of the day? At least let me finish my round. And there's something awesome about you know, these larger than life figures within the world of sports. Again. Nick Saban, in my opinion, is the best college football coach of all time. I don't know, I don't think that's a strong opinion. I'd say most people would agree.
But to know, like he's he's out golfing like a lot of people who are just you know, retired, and his wife's sending him things he needs to get done for the day, the honeydew list, like you know, he's one of us. There's some cool about that. And he's gonna be great on TV by the way, I know I talked about earlier this week, and he's continued to give great coverage for the SEC network. Because one nobody's gonna question if he you know, if he knows what he's talking
about again. His credential speak for themselves, and you know he's he's sharp, right, I think you could be the best coach in the world with the best resume of all time. That means you're gonna be great on TV. And I think I think Saban has already kind of adjusted nicely. But it will be interesting though, is whenever, like we get to games and whatnot, can he be truly objective? I think you can tell yourself you're gonna be truly objective. You know this, I mean he he was out
of Hima football for a really really long time. Although you know, if they struggled and uh you know, Caitlin uh deboor, they did they do right de boor if he struggles, that actually makes saman look even better. Probably all right, we got two more hours left, so stick around. We'll talk about these hot seat rankings on the other side. Get to the text line. Bring in our man, Kendrick Haskins from way three around four thirty, So stick with us right here on Sports Talk seven ninety
