It's time for coffee and company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day, Now here's Nick Coffee. I'm as guilty as anybody when it comes to, you know, given the local meteorologists here a hard time whenever they're incorrect, but they were correct about this awful heat that we have. I mean, I think we knew it was going to be hot, they warned us, and sure enough, it is very hot. It's ninety five degrees as we speak. Air qualities disgusting, and they have canceled my my son's
football practice. Makes sense, I don't I know there's a specific number that they got a if there, if it's above you know, a certain yeah heat index, then they won't they won't let them play, which is the right thing to do, of course, but yeah, no practice for him,
which is just confirmation that it's that disgusting outside. And in today one of those days, John, I haven't even spent that much time outside, thankfully, but like it's it's it's just a reminder that when it comes down to the summer, it all depends on heat index, air quality, because it's just it feels like we're walking outside in a microwave, like we're in we're in a microwave outside. Yeah, I hate it. This is the
hottest day of the year so far, is it. That's not surprising, Yeah, because I think we we've had we had we had several days. I think this shoe got it. We had a lot of days where we were in the nineties in a row, but we never got this hot specifically. So this is the worst it's felt all year long. Yeah, I think it was it whenever I was in I think you're on vacation or one
of your vacations. Yeah, I think it might have been when when I was in Florida, because I remember talking to some friends and family that was that were back here. They were saying, like, it's actually way warmer here than it is in Florida, which you know, I enjoyed that because I don't love this kind of heat and it's disgusting. But anyways, stay hydrated, stay safe, everybody, all right, it's our number three coffee
and company, fuel by Thornton's here on Sports Talks seven to ninety. Appreciate you guys hanging out with us. Don't forget you can take us with you wherever you go. Listen live on the iHeartRadio app. Also listen live it's seven to ninety Louisville dot Com. We have talked quite a bit throughout the show here and there about the big day. The new EA Sports college football game is out and it is completely consumed my timeline on Twitter, which I'm
not complaining. I mean, we knew it was coming. It's consumed my timeline to an extent even long before it came out because there's been so much anticipate anticipation about this game. But yeah, I mean even people like if you go to the you never check the for you on Twitter, right, rarely? Yeah, if I have a reason to like sometimes whenever Twitter shows you what's new, it'll favor your for you and I'll look at that occasionally depending on who it is, but I usually stay on the following side.
Yeah, the the following side is usually I mean again that's quite literally, you're only going to see people that you chose to follow, which is where it's usually in order of Yes, it was tweeted, yep, no doubt about it. But even you know, with that, I didn't realize I followed that many people that were going to be you know, all in on
this game. I do have a little bit of envy, because you know, it's there's something awesome about about being excited about something that's about to come out and you get to, you know, enjoy it, and I just, you know, I can't relate. I guess is this is I guess this is an actual unexpected case of fomo, which, by the way, U of L just tweeted this out. I haven't even heard it yet,
so it may not be. I may be wasting my time here, but the official U of L Twitter account football account put out a little video here that shows It shows the fans and the stands. It shows, Uh, let me see, is there any narration here? Let's see, man, Llouisville, Kentucky. They love there were breds who know how to run down this drench, ain't get to the wire firked and certainly they see plenty up in tier from Johnny Unitas to Lamar Jackson. Today the louis the Cardinals will
try to live up to that magazine. God, it looks so real. I mean, we just talked about that. But seeing this this, I mean, first of all, because I know the tunnel that they're about to walk out of like, I know, that's exactly what it looks like right there. And I think when you're not doing gameplay and you're and there's not a here's what it is. When there's not a ton of movement like running, that's where it looks freakishly real. So I wish I had a PS
five or an Xbox for this. Go get one. You got big money. Oh I know what they pay you around here. Well, now, if you were going to go get a new gaming system, would you get a PS whatever? Yeah, I've always been in PlayStation, same year. That's all I really ever knew before PlayStation though, I was second Genesis. Oh yeah, it was a Hedgehog right, Oh yeah, son that was Sonics game, no doubt. So again, it's freakishly real. However, I do want to remind you folks, just in case you get lost a
little bit in the gameplay, it is not It is not real. I thought. What Chris Vanini a college football writer who joins us on the show from time to time. He works for The Athletic. He had a great write up about him. He's actually been playing the game for the last week. But there's the road to glory mode where you just start as a player in high school and you get recruited, and of course now you can hit the portal. You can evaluate nil options that are being offered to you.
I'm sure and this level of I mean making it real, I mean, this is just it is cool. Like I'll be honest with you, it's cool. I probably will ever play the game. But to know that whenever you are, you know, probably creating yourself and you're doing the Road to Glory and you're a college football player, you're going to be tempted to do things that could potentially, you know, be a big risk for you.
So Vannini wrote here in his ride up that when he created himself and did the Road to Glory mode, he accepted a party invite from a teammate and the coach found a photo of them partying and it docked his trust point that he had within his coach. So like, they value that kind of stuff. Also, a classmate helped him cheat on a test and boosted his GPA and he got caught a week later and got in trouble. So like those
are the kind of things that make it seem like it's real life. And you know, again, I'm just here to remind you that it's not all right. We've also talked a little bit about the SEC today. It's day one of the SEC media days, and at this point it doesn't seem as if there's been a whole lot to really take from that, you know, and usually there's not. It's talking season, right. However, Greg Sankie
was asked about expansion and he he seems to be consistent. I don't think the SEC has done any kind of hint or potential sit I mean, usually you don't put it out there what you want to do, but now you've got, in fact, was the commissioner of the Big Ten, the guy who ended up leaving to go work for the Bears? Is he the one who actually facilit Was he still around whenever the West Coastchools decided to come the
Big Ten? Kevin Warren? Yeah, so he is somebody that if you remember, he was openly I mean, I guess maybe I'm wrong there because he did actually talk about always keeping options open for expansion, and you know, well, you know, and they did. And now you've got the new Big twelve commissioner, Brett Yormark, who has at every point talked about always looking to grow, and I think it's quite clear that if they can
add, they will meeting the Big twelve. But the SEC, you know, the Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC is such a substantial move in such a substantial piece of news in college football whenever it was announced. But I don't think there. I mean, it just came out of nowhere. I remember we were on our way. I think we were on our way to Destin, and I remember, you know, out of nowhere, broken became of course a huge story. And you know that's that's expansion for good reason,
right, you added two huge brands. I mean, that's that just made the SEC even stronger. But I've always felt as if the SEC will be the most likely conference that will show us that you don't expand just to expand, because I don't really know who they could go get that wouldn't make them better. So Clemson in Florida state, I think the belief is that if they could get out of that grand of rights deal with the ACC, that they could probably find their way in the in the in the SEC of
the Big Ten. But you know, I don't see any I've not seen any reporting or coverage of these lawsuits. That makes it look as if these two schools, Clemson in Florida State are going to have a successful lawsuit to get out of the grand of rights. I mean, again, I'm no legal expert, and maybe I'm not looking in the right areas, but it's
a pretty it's a pretty state. It's a pretty straightforward situation. They agreed to it, they signed it, and initially, whenever they signed on and everybody in the acc agreed to this arrangement, they were bra they were they were celebrating it as if it was great because it unifies everybody. So it's a little bit of buyer's remorse as far as the contract they signed. But it's a contract for a reason. So the SEC I just don't I mean, I think I think Sanke is being genuine when he says that, you
know, he's just focused on their sixteen members. And he did say he doesn't have any comment on Clemson or Florida State in that lawsuit, which again is a pretty expected answer when it comes to that. So maybe they would have interest if those two schools become available, But what is Clemson in Florida
State giving the sec that they don't already have. I mean, they've got South Carolina that's where Clemson is, of course, I mean they've got Florida and the rest of the South, So it could get it would make you a better league, no doubt, because those are good programs. But again, how much more money are you bringing in by adding those two? You'll
clearly get a bump, But is it worth doing it? Because you know everybody's got to share this this stuff equally, So I don't see the SEC making any expansion anytime soon unless something unexpected happens, which, of course a lot of unexpected things have happened throughout conference realignment. Now, John did make a good point. I think he's totally right. The one school that could give us a big shake up here in realignment if they ever decided to join
a conferences Notre Dame, because they would have value that really. Like not to say Notre Dame is the greatest program of all time, because they're clearly not. But Notre Dame is as unique as any college football program I can think of, wouldn't you say, John? I mean they're independent and they have a national audience. We talked about the NBC deal. I mean it's
crazy. They have several associations with a lot of good Power five teams, or they've played over the years and and they've they've made the college football National Championship a couple of times. They haven't won in a while, but they're a big name. Yeah, Notre Dame getting their ear in kicked when they get to the playoff with the national championship game has oftentimes had people acting as
if that means they're not they're not worthy, and it doesn't. I mean, I think every other team that was fighting for a playoff spot probably would have been killed by the teams that killed Notre Dame and we'll never know. But like, just because you got beat bad in the playoff doesn't mean that you that you weren't, that you didn't earn the spot to get there.
And Notre Dame doesn't play in a conference because they don't have to. Their schedule is usually tough enough to where it's not viewed as like, oh god, they're they're they're really, you know, they found a loophole here. They can they cannot have a conference and you know, win eleven games. Now, they usually played pretty good teams, all right. Something else we discussed from the SEC Media Day day one is Nick Saban making his debut.
Of course, he's been there many times as a coach. Now he's working for ESPN, and he showed up without his credential, which of course is a nightmare scenario if you're a media hack like myself. So I mean, somebody should have been there to remind Nick Saban that, you know, just
because you're Nick Saban doesn't mean you're gonna get you know. And I've seen people who have credentials, like their credential media and they forgot it, or they lost it, or they you know, they got that paper when they don't want to attach to their belt loops, so they put it in their
bag. And just about every place I've been to that requires credentials, you know, for media access, they'll find out if you want if you don't have it publicly, you know, there's there's people that stand there and their only job is to look at everybody who walks by and make sure they have the proper credential displaying. And I guess Nick Saban tried to pull it off
today and he was turned away. It's a little different. I'm never a credential in my life and was always for seventeen years able to get in the SEC media day without a credential. I had to go back to the room today and get my credential to get in. So that's one of the biggest changes I see. It's not like it used to be. So I was a little I was a little curious to see if we would hear Sabin right away sort of favor Alabama because it would wouldn't it be unnatural not to?
I mean, Ken say, I think Saban can be honest, but like he loves Alabama, He's he mean, I think it's almost impossible for him to be biased. Again, I think you can, well maybe I guess you can have favoritism and clearly have a preferred outcome, Like I'm sure Nick Saban wants Alabama to win every national championship the rest of the way because you know, that's where he coached for so long and had such a great run.
But you know, he could tell you if he thinks it's going to happen or not, because when he was taking his shots at Texas and oklah Home earlier, which we'll let you guys hear that. If you didn't, you know what kind of tickles me is all these people asking these questions about how Texas always ran the conference they were in. They're not going to run the SEC. Yeah, right, there's a whole lot of arrogant people in
a lot of places in so I'll forget all about it. Yeah, they'll be a good team and a great program and Stark will do a great job. But that's not going to be a problem. So I don't know. I heard that earlier and I thought maybe that could be that Saban is, you know, saying that because of his affiliation with the SEC and maybe even
Alabama a little bit. But he did predict the SEC championship game and he did not have bam Inn and he had Georgia and Texas, which, again, Texas is entering the league at a perfect time because they are coming off of a breakthrough season, got all the way to the playoff with Sark, and they bring back quin Yours, who's one of the best quarterbacks in the country. So they should be able to be highly competitive, like they should be one of the best teams in the SEC. They should because they're one
of the best teams in the country. But had this move happened, you know, really any other time in the last couple of years. I really wonder what the conversation would be like, because we know Texas feels great about themselves because you know, they've larger than life, you know, when it comes to their presence. I mean, they're trying to do it without making
the you know, the weak attempted humor about how big Texas is. But I mean, they have a huge fan base, they have an unlimited amount of money, and they do have tradition, but like, they've never really had the results that back up them feeling the way they do about themselves. And I guess you could say that about a lot of fan bases, but this, this stat really puts it in perspective that, like, this notion that they've been dominating Texas and Oklahoma have been dominating the Big Twelve is just
not true. Dennis Dodd was on a show earlier at the SEC Media Days and highlighted the fact that they've only won, meaning Texas and Oklahoma have only won eleven of the last twenty seven Big Twelve titles before they left for the SEC. So those two schools I think have been the bully in the Big Twelve. But it's just because they they hold more weight. They've always mattered more and they know that, and they've used that and they've told people that.
But as far as like actually winning, they haven't been that successful. And I said earlier, I think Oklahoma is going to be a really good case study as far as you know, life in the Big twelve and life in the SEC because I wouldn't be shocked if they end up being, you know, just like a Kentucky as far as a record, not you know, not like consistently, but just this year. Wouldn't be shocked if they're if they're you know, a Kentucky or an Auburn or something like that in
that tier. But if they end up coming in there and being you know, in that group that includes Tennessee and who else. Sure, I think who else is expected to be you know, oh miss oh miss of course, you know, they're a team that a lot of people think could make make it to the playoff this year. Missouri is coming off a monster season.
I don't know if that's sustainable, but they certainly have momentum. Now if Oklahoma end's up closer to that, then they do the Kentucky's in the Auburns, then you know who knows what it proves, but I just wish we could have some type of you know, some type of result that would really let us know, as if if the SEC schools that finish four and four, three and five, but do win six or seven games and go to a bowl, they just you know, not even just themselves meeting their
fans and their programs, but like college football folks, they just assume because they play in the SEC, well you know, they're three and five or four and four, is astronomically different than a four and four or a five and three, Big twelve or Big Big ten or ACC team. And they've oftentimes got the benefit of doubt because that is the best league in the country.
But I'm telling you last year, and maybe it's just one year, but in that year specifically, the or the SEC did not deserve to be viewed as this just you know, the NFL compared to everybody else in college football, because again, they went out and played teams of other Power five leagues and they didn't win. In fact, they had a bad record I think in non conference games against Power five programs. All right, uh, let's see, let's do this. Let's uh, let's take a look at
this list real quick before we get to our next break. I do want to warn you we're not going to talk politics by any means, but I want you guys to hear this psychic who did an interview four months ago. I'm gonna play it on the other side, but this psychic who was on some podcast talking about the solar eclipses that were about to happen. He started sharing some visions and some things that he that he saw happening in the future.
In the detail of what he broke down four months ago. As far as Donald Trump and an attempted assassination, it was like, exactly what happened, and it's crazy. Also, there's something Trump did while on stage that was, you know, him doing what he does. And it's not just him, it's you know, when you're in a camp, you're campaigning to win an election, you're gonna oftentimes not only talk about why you're great,
but you're going to talk bad about the guy you're running against. So in one of his many attacks on Biden, and he had a graft that showed some evidence he moved to a certain he moved away and had he not done that, he probably be dead, which is kind of crazy to think about. So we'll get to that a little bit later on, but real quick, this list from the NFL. In fact, it's a poll. I shouldn't call it a list, it's a poll. So the NFL ESPN what
they do. They reach out to everybody in the NFL, coaches, executive, scouts and they have them individually ranked the best quarterbacks in the NFL. And you know, it's anonymous, and you could, you know, you could lie on there if you're one of these people. I would hope that they don't. But you know, this is these are people who are in like this is their livelihood, right, like they scout, they coach in the league. Like I think their opinion of who's really good it matters more
than you know, writers. And that's not to say writers can't have strong opinions, because they can. Just because they've never played in the NFL don't mean they can't have an opinion. But I think there's something to be said about this being a little different knowing that these are your peers and this is
what they think of you. So no surprise, Patrick Mahomes is the top quarterback in the NFL, according to those in the NFL, followed by Joe Burrow and then Josh Allen and then Lamar Jackson came in at number four, which I don't know. I feel like Lamar did enough to where he should be ahead of Josh Allen, but you know that's maybe I'm a little biased. I mean, Lamar does have two MVPs, and you know last year, Lamar's team was better than I mean, I feel like that window it's
not closing yet. But if Josh Allen is going to bring the Bills something special, like you know, we've been hearing that for like three four years and they've been good. They just I feel like every time there's belief that they're going to break through, they fall short. Joe Burrow has when healthy, really good, and him taking the Bengals to a Super Bowl is still something that I when I say it out loud, I have to question myself
that that really happen. But it did. But this is the first time Lamar has been at number four, or I'm sorry, been in the top five, which gosh, I mean, just to think that he wasn't in the top five after he won it first MVP, I feel like that that sounds surprising, but then again, you know, he was still so young and you still had other I mean remember at that time Brady was still playing.
So after Lamar, it's Matthew Stafford at number five, Justin Herbert number six, and c J. Stroud ended up cracking the top ten and the number actually, yes, at number nine, I'm sorry, Number ten was Dak Prescott and this doesn't give me the exact order of it, but the other was was Aaron Rodgers, So Dak was tenth. I don't think Rogers was ninth, but he certainly wasn't. Maybe he was number five. The way this this little write up here about in the list itself, for some
reason they chose not to actually include everybody. But I have no I mean, I have no real gripe with that. I can't I can't think of anybody that I feel like was just you know, blatantly disrespected by being left
off. And C J. Stroud I mean that that. I think the results that he had as a rookie, like they they sucked the Texans and I don't even really know if they have great personnel, and they weren't great last year, but you know they were, I mean, heck, they ended my Colts season, and you know, C. J. Stroud was a really, really, really good rookie quarterback last year, so we'll see
if it's sustainable. But he looked, he looked the part. And I think this is the kind of year where somebody like, I mean, I feel like we've been saying it for years about Dak, but certainly with like Justin Herbert, I feel like Herbert and Stafford for two different reasons. For Stafford, you got to wonder if he's still you know, if he still has it. And then with Herbert, I mean, I won't claim to be this QB guru, but I feel like he's oftentimes been viewed as one
of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL. All right, quick break, We'll come back on the other side. Keep this thing rolling along again. It's Coffee and Company. We are feel about Thorton's right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. So. I think what happened on Saturday with Donald Trump and Pennsylvania, where you know, somebody attempted to kill him, it's something that will always be viewed, I would assume, and that kind of I mean
that that stuff doesn't happen very often. Therefore, you know, it's it's wild, it's crazy, it's surprising. But we are currently, I think, in a time where the climate is pretty crazy and unbelievable to where the shock value is just not what it once was because of, you know, the way things are. So obviously, it was an awful thing that happened,
and the you know idiot who did that is now dead. But I don't know, I just it's one of the I feel like it's not a stretch to say that it's one of the craziest things that's happened in the United States in my lifetime. I mean, he's okay, and that's good, but like, could have easily died, and that would have been I mean, I can't imagine what the aftermath would have been like had he actually been
killed. Same here. I mean, so luckily that didn't happen. But I mean it's I don't know, Like I had myself a heck of a day Saturday. We had a good time at at my nephew's birthday party, and then we went to have dinner with friends, end up coming back to our house, and you know, there's obviously something a lot of us. I mean, I think we're a point now where people who don't even really bring up politics to friends and family just because it's you know, it's not
their thing. I mean, it's this has this current election I should say, like it's it's just different than any election I can think of. And some would say it's for awful reasons because of the two candidates that are here. But there's an And I hate saying entertainment because like if it's things that are really worrisome to you as a as a citizen of the United States, like that shouldn't be something we laugh at. But then again, like that's
kind of my nature. That's how I you know, what do they say laugh to not cry? Like I would be exaggerating if I told you any this stuff brings me to tears. But it's just I don't know. I oftentimes still think like is this real? Like did that really happen? And you know it did. So there's somebody on Twitter who goes by Mars Army General and I don't this is I'm sorry, that's a different that's that's somebody who shared the tweet, but the actual it's a good line in TV.
This guy's got forty thousand followers. He's a filmmaker. He put together a thread that has gone insanely viral. It's got seven million views and it's easy to find. But you know, one is he just has the here's the title, it says, one of the craziest threads, and it just has a bunch of stuff from what happens Saturday. For example, one it's the
crazy photo of him leaned over with blood falling down his face. And then there's a video that is two and a half minutes long and it says one of the cleanest videos of the shooting, and you know it's it's there's actually a picture of the of the person who shot who is now dead, which I wouldn't look at that if you're you know, if you don't like looking at graphic images like that. So there's like twenty different tweets here in this
thread that just bring up certain things about it. One is a good breakdown of the whole thing that is condensed. One is the a joke that was told by Shane Gillis many years ago. One is one of the interviews from the eyewitnesses that was there. So it's just a good little breakdown of everything that happened. But one of these things is just unbelievable, and that is this profit slash psychic, yes, psychic, whatever you want to call him.
He was on and I just assume, well, there's no way this is real, Like this is just this is this is fake news, fake footage, because with AI you can really you can really doctor stuff. But because everybody was asking is this real, people found the original YouTube video where this interview took place. It was it was roughly four months ago, where this psychic was talking about the solar eclipse which was about to happen at that
point, and he shared something about Trump that actually ended up happening. So you never know what to believe. But the original like YouTube has the video published. That's where I watched it, and it shows that it was uploaded four months ago. So like it's clear. I mean, am I Am I a sucker for believing that that's real? I mean able to do that because Yeah, the one the one thing I can remember that was kind of
similar and not as serious. Back when one of the World Cups was going on, there was an account that was supposedly predicting who was winning in that kind of stuff, and it had dates on when the tweets were being tweeted out, but those somehow ended up being doctored to win, you know, not being an actual tweet. So I know you're talking about. Yeah, I just don't know how you you know, you can probably screen and grab
and it shows a date that is doctored. But as far as like if you go to the link and the link shows you what date that was published, I just don't think there'd be a way to fake that. But again, you know, maybe I'm wrong, but this was let me see, this was this was three months ago. And again this this is this is creepy all throughout America, all throughout And I saw Trump rising up and then
I saw attempt on his life. Uh that this bullet flew by his ear and it came so close to his head that it busted his drum, ear drum, and I saw he was He fell to his knees during this time frame, and he started worshiping the Lord. He got radically born again. So later on it's just you know, stuff that we don't need to hear about. But I mean, he didn't bust his ear drum. But like
this guy claims he had that vision. That's what he That's where the audio starts there as him describing this vision about Trump getting shot and it hitting his ear, and that's I mean, that's exactly. I mean, that's just crazy to me. I mean, is this thing getting the attention that if it's true, you know, probably needs to be. Man, that's what I was looking for, because again I wanted to share with you, and
maybe I got got somehow, but that's why. Yeah, if you so, if you if you look at this, the initial tweet that just has this video that is part of this thread, you'll see people responding to this specific tweet and they're they're pulling the time stamp from that from that YouTube video and you can. And that's what I did. I went and watched it just to make sure like it wasn't, you know, something that everybody was
falling for. So, I mean, I've never believed much in psychics, but this has at least given them a win over me, because that's that's pretty that's pretty insane. Also, when when you look at the timing of when the actual you know, the shot took place, this is just divine intervention. So he kept pointing at the illegal immigration on this, you know,
but done by Biden. It was on this chart, and yeah, it says he had there been no chart, you know, and you know, I guess no legal legal immigration, it wouldn't he probably wouldn't have been moving around and gesturing the way he was to where like the I mean, they do have a picture here that like show. I mean, I don't know if you I don't know if anybody's done any real like science to determine
like the trajectory of the bullet and all that kind of stuff. But clearly, if a shot from that far away hits his ear, I mean, any little movement one way or the other could go right through your head. I mean, it's it's crazy. So anyways, this since there's no other
time to bring this up that would that would that would fit. So this is just a survey from you gov poll, which I know when you bring up this kind of stuff, a lot of people were just you know, if it doesn't show them what they want to hear, what they believe,
they're just going to assume it's all fake. But I actually thought this was interesting, and I think regardless of what you think about politics, or what you think about these two candidates, or what you think about the election, you know, if you live in America, Like, you know, this kind of stuff matters to people. But it says the majority of Americans say
inflation is a very serious problem. I think that's quite clear. But this recent you gov poll which found that voters, it's found that voters are more likely to approve of Donald Trump's handling of the issue rather than Biden. Again, I don't really think that that's I mean, I don't think that's untrue, to be honest with you, just my opinion, and this says The survey also found that for Democrats, the most serious issue, the most serious
issues that the country faces are gun violence and climate change. Nearly two thirds of Americans say inflation is a very serious problem in the US, but the other top issues are corruption, drug abuse, homelessness, weakening of democracy, and a shortage of affordable housing. So, you know, I know there are plenty of people who you know, probably aren't comfortable saying this, and
maybe some people are very comfortable saying this. But I feel like this is going to be an election where people will look at both candidates and not really love either one and not feel great about either side, but they're going to make a vote based off of how they feel like it will affect them as you know everyday people, right, and inflation is so insane right now at a level that, like I think people will just say, hey, look who can prove to me which one of these guys is actually going to make
living in this country a little more affordable for somebody who, you know, not that long ago, would be considered upper middle class. It's just crazy. So you know, who knows how it all plays out. But I mean, among many things people are probably concerned about in the country, inflation's got to be up there for most. I mean again, everybody's different. Maybe some people have a whole lot of money and they never have to worry about it. If that's the case, then you know, good for you.
But I know there are people, I mean again, people are getting second jobs just to have a little more breathing room. And these are people who have like good careers that make you know, what used to be considered a pretty good or really good living outside of you know, being wealthy.
I mean, you factor in just what everything costs top to bottom, and it's it's hard for people who again I feel like not that long ago, they probably weren't planning on retiring super early, but they weren't stressing over money the way they are now. And I know that there's some people that say, well, hey, you can do better, cut you know, cut
expenses, you know, make some sacrifices and all. That's true, but there are certain things like you can't just get Like the most expensive things are things you can't get rid of, Like we have to pay for childcare, and you know you don't if you don't want to have, you know, pay for child care, you don't have kids. Like I know people say that kind of stuff, but I mean, like that's that response is nonsense. So anyways, that's enough for our political stuff today. Let's get to
a quick break. We'll come back on the other side. Wrap this thing up at is Coffee and Company. Philbeth Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety all right, not a lot of time left here, so let's run through some things quickly that I did not get a chance to mention just yet. One Louisville's TBT team Deville is going to be without Kyle Kurrick in the tournament.
I'm not sure what has happened. Hopefully it's not something crazy, but they announced earlier today that he will not be available to play due to a family situation. So hopefully everything's okay with Kyle and his family. Still a really good roster and I can't wait. Man, We're not that far away. We're just in fact, it's this weekend, I mean this Saturday, we'll see this team in action for the first time two o'clock at Freedom Hall,
so hopefully they get a good turnout. I know ticket sales have been going really well so far, and I would imagine this week it'll really pick up because there's a lot of folks who you know, didn't get tickets that early, and I'm one of them. So I can't wait, really really looking forward to it. All right. Also, if if you are somebody that is interested in like the you know, the apparel deals and all that. Indiana has signed a new deal with Adidas which will keep them with the three
Stripe Company for the next ten years. And we don't have enough time to really get into it, but I think this deal specifically, when you look at there's not as much money up front, and it's more loaded on the back end, and overall, I believe it is I'll have to get to the specifics before we discussed it, but I think you're going to start to see you're going to start to see these deals probably not be as lucrative.
It maybe be for a little longer period of time. And you know, with Louisville, I bring it up to say, I think Louisville may end up next time around probably not getting what they got the first go around with
Adidas. And you know, I guess I shouldn't say the first time, but the last time they signed that extension, which was I believe around twenty seventeen, And that's why they make more money from their apparel provider than any others, because they got a phenomenal deal and Nike's not going to give you anything close to what Adidas gave you. So people who want to see Louisville
no longer wear Adidas and wear Nike. I mean, I just that wouldn't make any sense at all because money has always been super important for you know, in every aspect of life really, but money in college athletics. There's going to be so much more money needed because these schools are going to probably end up having to pay the athletes now. Right, So even if you feel like there may be a benefit here, or there about being with Nike
and not Adidas and it's just a few million dollars different. What I'm trying to say is that now's not the time to where you can just you know, who cares it's a few million dollars, every penny seemingly going to count. Because if you want to compete and you want to win at the highest level of college athletics, if you're not pumping in a bunch of money to pay these players self, not just through an IL, I don't see how
you're gonna be able to succeed. Also, lastly, one of the names we talked about last Friday, this I mean Darryl Peterson, is believed to be, you know, a guy who could end up being the number one player in the I think it is in the Is he twenty twenty six? Let me see here, Yeah, Darryl Darren Peterson. I just sam I'm sorry he is. He's a five star, He's an Adidas kid. We talked about Louisville already having you know, some level of a relationship with him,
and they're trying to get him for a visit. He has Louisville in his list of six so so far there at least in the mix. And we're getting way ahead of ourselves here because Pat Kelsey hadn't coached a game yet. But man, if they could establish a little bit of momentum early on, have a solid season, make the tournament, maybe find themselves in the second weekend, you know, he could really utilize that type of season to start not only killing it in the portal like he already has been, but
getting really good high school recruits. And this kid, you know, if the hype is even close to legit, this sounds like somebody that would be one of those freshmen that you know will make an impact as soon as they get to college, regardless of the portal and regardless of older players you know, sticking around in college basketball for a longer amount of time. So remember
that name, Darren Peterson. He's a special player, and it could be you know, competition is going to be tough, but it could be maybe the first big recruit Pat Kelsey lands from the high school ranks. All right, quick break, Well, so no, it's gonna be a long break. In fact, it's gonna be a twenty one hour break and then we're back at it. So you can hang out if you'd like, if you
want to go do something else, I totally understand. But we'll be back here at three o'clock tomorrow, and I hope you'll be with us right here on Sports Talk seven ninety
