It's time for Coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety. Holy crap, I don't know who the hell we think we are getting off our show, idiot. The kids are playing or trail off their countries are screwing it up. Gold Play Intermurals, Brother gold Play Inner Murals. They're supposed to be mature adults, but they're really not. Who's the kid here? Who's the kid here? Are you kidding me? Now? Here's Nick Coffee? All right, folks, you made it. It's Friday.

That's right, It feel good Friday. You made it to the end of the week, and we're here to get you set for the weekend. It is Coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety Nick Coffee. That is me, the company man, mister John Alton the long side today for a few hours. Then he's out of here. Are you guys leaving tomorrow? We're leaving overnight tonight. It's like three am. So are you someone who has done that type of travel before meeting where you'll just

get in the car and drive through the night. This is regular for me. Yeah, I uh, it depends on where I'm going I made that trip once, made a trip once, I should say, uh in the middle of the night, and it was a lot of back roads, and it spooked me out a little bit. I just started panicking, like if I had a flat tire, if I got in a wreck, like, you know, no service. So yeah, if it's just mostly interstate, I can do it. But uh, yeah, it's really the best.

If you can manage to not be really really tired and dragging the first couple of days, then it's the way to go because you save a lot of time, right, Like, you're gonna get there probably tomorrow. You'll be there what mid afternoon, Yeah, early midafternoon. That's it's a good way to get it started. And if you would have if you would have left in the morning tomorrow, you know, you probably get there closer to nighttime,

right, kind of waste your entire first day. So it's a savvy move on your part, no surprise, you're a you're a very savvy guy. So he'll be out next week. So we got to make sure this is a phenomenal show to send you off for a nice vacation. Have you noticed how busy downtown is? Yeah, I've noticed there was an accident on sixty or at least there was an officer dealing with what could have been an accident down sixty five. No, it was before downtown good. I came

in through seventy one, which means I might have avoided some traffic. But there's a big weekend going on here. When it comes to, you know, action, I don't know what you I don't think you would want to put I don't think either would want to be in the same category together. But tonight you have WWE, some professional wrestling SmackDown is going to be at them Center, oh wow. And tomorrow you HAVEC event at the UM Center. So busy, you know, just bloodying up the y a brawling weekend

or something like that. Mean, obviously wrestling is you know, entertainment, whereas UFC is entertainment as well, but you know, like they're actually fighting

and hurting each other. So when I got here, I walked down to the to the CVS that's across from the Seal Box, just a block over and where I park you have to come down the elevator, or not the elevator, but the steps to walk really all the way through for street for the most part to get there, and there's I mean each restaurant is open, which I guess maybe they open up during the spring or maybe on a Friday, I mean during the winter, and really I feel like a good

chunk of the year the restaurants that are here at four Street are not open, so like if we wanted to eat lunch here, and it's only like there's like two options, like the Guy Fieri seems like it's usually open all the time, as well as the TJ Fridays that's still there. It's there, isn't it. I actually don't know if it is. I've never been

to I think it's still open in there. But anyways, there's a lot of folks that are here, and I you know, the fact that they're out, you know, drinking and socializing at you know, two point thirty on a Friday makes me think that they're visitors and they're in town. They're tourists and they're taking in Louisville because they're here for either some wrestling or some I'm fighting UFC style. So I always like it whenever we have, you

know, tourists in town, and I hope that they enjoyed themselves. And have a good time and maybe they come back. Right, it's good for the city if you've got people that want to visit, and you know, give your establishments, give your give your businesses some business. However, anytime I try to guess up downtown Louisville, I get at least one and it's usually from the same person on the text line that'll send me like a crime map, you know what I mean. Like it'll show like like little dots

activity. Yeah, It'll show dots where each criminal activity took place. And I'm like, well, you know, thank you for that. But I mean, I don't know. Maybe I'm naive, maybe I'm someone that just thinks I'm invincible, but I don't. I don't. I mean there are certain places, certain areas where if I, you know, felt like I would head on a swivel kind of thing, right, like, Okay, maybe I should make sure I'm looking over my shoulder because I'm all alone.

I'm in a vulnerable spot. It's laid outside, you know. But I don't know, Like if I'm roaming around downtown, which I I got to be honest, it doesn't happen often. But if I'm going block to block walking you know, which again doesn't happen that often. I rarely ever think like, hm, I better be careful, I might get mugged, which even if there was like a there's always a chance that could happen anywhere, Like I wouldn't be a fun way to live your life, always just assuming

that you're gonna be you know, somebody's gonna get you. So anyways, I hope one day there's no longer this uh, this mindset from some that like downtown Louisville is you know, a boarded up war zone and you can't go you can't even come down here without getting stabbed or something, which clearly that's an exaggeration. But and I know there are a lot of crimes and

carjackings and like that kind of stuff happens, and it's unfortunate. But I'm sure a lot of cities are sized deal with like the exact same kind of thing. Maybe some are a little bit better at not having as much crime, maybe some are worse. But anyways, it's a beautiful day here in Louisville. And again we're gonna get you set for the weekend. If you guys want to take us with you wherever you're going whatever you may be doing. You can listen live on the iHeart radio app Listen Live. It's seven

to ninety Louisville dot Com. And I guess we'll start with the big news, and it's it's not great news, but it's not really you know, bad news. And I feel pretty pretty happy with the way that I've discussed the Coleman Hawkins situation throughout the entire week. In fact, let's just go back a week ago today, whenever it seemed as if there might be a chance that Louisville could could could get involved here, and despite having thirteen scholarship

players, they have some way in which they could potentially add someone. Still don't know how they were going to do it, but I do know that is something that they have the ability to do. But it didn't really seem realistic. I don't know, it just it was hard for me to really buy in, get excited and track this thing, and you know, keep my fingers crossed. And then I believe it surely started to seem more and

more real and then we find it. We found out I guess it was Monday or Tuesday of this week that he was going to be visiting Louisville, and the visit was supposed to take place this weekend. In fact, I think he was supposed to arrive today, and then it turns out that the visit's not gonna happen. He is not going to visit Louisville. Louisville is

no longer in the mix for Colemenhawkins. And with the last minute cancelation, which it was a last minute cancelation from from what I gather, I think like right before he was set to to, you know, make the trip, it all ended. And rarely am I ever someone that is, you know, in the know, right. I mean I talked to some people, and there's a few people that you know, keep me up to date

on things they feel like I should know. But you know, I'm not that you know, my sources guy, or my my source within, because I don't really have a whole lot of sources. I wish I did, but I don't. But I did get a phone call earlier today from somebody who made it clear, Hey, saw what you said, just wanted to let you know that's not what happened. You know, Louisville is the one

who canceled the visit and decided not to pursue him. And it's not because oh they don't want him, they don't need him, he's not any good. They decided to back out. They don't have any money. It really comes down to this, and this makes total sense. They feel really good about where they are as far as personnel meeting the talent that they have. Now, you can never have too much of it. So it's not as if they're saying, well, hey, you know, we're so talented,

we don't want any other players. But they really like what they have. And it's not just about the ability of these players, it's the chemistry. And most of these guys just got here with them the last week, but it's been they've been around each other NonStop. And some of these guys who've never met before have been communicating with these guys their future teammates for weeks now,

prior to everybody arriving here in Louisville. So it's not as I mean, maybe some of them just met in person for the last week or so, but they have some good chemistry going right now, which clearly was going to be step number one. I mean, get to know each other, right, get to get to you know get close with your teammates, develop established some chemistry, because all of this is brand new. I mean, you do have you do have one guy. Actually you got two sets of

teammates. I suppose, yeah, two sets of teammates. You've got three guys from Charleston and Rain Smith and Jordan Scott, not George Scott, James Scott or the two that are gonna play. Kobe's gonna read share this year because of his injury, and then Noah Waterman and Ali Khalifa also teammates,

but Khalif is expected to redshirt this year. So like as far as guys that are playing, most of these guys are gonna have to get used to each other, get to know each other right, develop and establish that chemistry. So it's still a work in progress. But they feel really good about where they are and that is why they decided to just, you know, not pursue Coleman Hawkins. Maybe there were other factors as well. I don't

think it was. I don't I don't believe that they felt a certain way about Coleman Hawkins and said, look, our chemistry is already pretty good. This guy, he's the kind of guy that would ruin it. I mean maybe they thought that, but I don't. I don't get the sense that that was why they decided to just back out and you know, tell him best to luck and move on. But you know, a lot of these

guys kind of have a similar background. You know, Terrence Edwards junior, very underrated, recruited, under recruited kid, goes to James Madison really kind of had to. I mean, he wasn't a guy who was a star when he first got there. In fact, he redshirted I believe his first year. A James Madison didn't start at JMU until last year. I mean he was the sixth man of the Year in the Sun Belt in his junior season and then last year was player of the year in that league and had

a big, big year. You know. Javon Hadley, the Colorado transfer, I mean he came from Juco, I mean before he ended up in Colorado. In fact, I think he actually played for a very small Division One team before he ended up taking the Juco routes. Like, these guys have kind of had to grind it out. They're you know, like I don't know how to describe. I don't want to make it sound like you know, they're all blue collar journeymen, but you know, they've had to

really work to get to where they are. And it's not as if they've accomplished something insane like national championships or All American status, but they've really built themselves up. And not to say Colemanhawkins wouldn't fit with that, but he's

just, you know, he's it's a little bit different. So I don't, you know, I know some people will say, well, hey, they must have solved the Shenanigans and you know the Colemanhawkins experience, Colemenhawkins experience that was on social media, and just felt like, you know what, he could really potentially cost some issues for us, Like I don't. I

don't know if they thought that. Maybe they did, but I think the majority of the you know, the the biggest factor here, I should say in this decision, I think was they just felt good about where they are, like they didn't want to rock the boat. And when it comes to how they were going to make it work again, I don't. I won't claim to know how you know, what loopholes there could be for guys that are going to be red shirting and not playing like obviously they still take up

a scholarship, but you know, maybe there is a workaround. But it does sound as if they did bring in Colemanhawkins and he decided to come to Louisville after his visit, that you were going to lose one but maybe two guys that have already committed. And I don't know who that who those guys are. I think it would probably make sense that it would be somebody that

is, you know, that plays in the front court. I don't really know what kind of options they would have because if they're already enrolled in school, I guess if you've enrolled in school but you haven't taken classes, like maybe you can like maybe you don't have to enter the portal. But I think they kicked the tires on it. I think they think highly of Colemanhawkins

as a player, and most people do. He's a talented guy. That would be a good addition for most but Louisville's already full and I think, and I don't know, not that it really matters because again it's over Colemenhawks for those just not joining us is not going to visit, so that'll be a name we probably rarely ever talk about it again, maybe never talk about again, depending on where he ends up. But I would love to know, Like, is that a conversation you have with your team, because this

isn't just Louisville. This is probably something that happens everywhere now, right, Like, Hey, we really want you, We have you know, set up nil to where you're being taken care of. We would love to keep you, but we're gonna go get this guy, or at least try to go get this guy who plays a similar position or maybe plays the same position as you, and we want to make sure you're not gonna leave, Like

you have to balance that. Before players had no power, right, like they could leave, but they weren't going to be playing for a new school the next year. They were gonna have to sit out, so you know, you could get recruited over and sometimes you'd have to just deal with it and just you know, work your ass off and try to make sure that whoever they brought in is not going to take minutes from you, which I

think is the right way to approach it. But now these guys have all the power, like they can leave whenever they want, and I guess technically not whenever they want, because there is a window of time. But I go back to what I said ten minutes ago. I'm pretty happy with the way I, you know, approached this because I didn't want to give my hopes up about Coleman Hawkins, and for some reason, this never really felt

like it was going to happen. Even though things were lining up. The visit was set, Louisville was believed to be the leader because there was nobody else really in the mix at that time other than SMU, and it was just hard for me to think that he would go to SMU over Louisville. But for some reason, I just never felt like this was going to happen. And sure enough, it's not going to happen. But even without Hawkins, I still really really like the personnel on this roster. I do you

know, I'm not going to backtrack. I think the addition of Hawkins would have made it to where instead of just looking like a team that could you know, be borderline top twenty five, that could make the tournament and that wouldn't be a shock. I think that's where you were you are now, and if you added Hawkins, I think it would have given you a little

bit of a bump. I think you would have gotten some more recognition this offseason from the college basketball national folks, So you know, they still, I guess, have the chance to have at somebody if they if they want. You know, there's a couple of freshmen out there that I think they've been talking to. One we've discussed earlier this week. His name is Jiggy Phillips. So we'll see what they end up doing. But I now feel as if this is this is going to be the roster, and I'm I'm

cool with it. I mean, they've got a chance to be pretty good and i'd like to know. And I you know, again, I'm not trying to spin this is like, hey, Coleman Hawkins visits canceled, Louisville doesn't want him and they're better without him. That's not my That's not how I'm trying to sound, and I hope I don't sound like that. But I am happy to know that they're already feeling really good about team chemistry, because that's something that you really only bring up if things you know aren't going

well. Right, and you can have a team that has a really good nucleus, that has continuity and chemistry can just be up and down. For example, that North Carolina team that made the National Championship Game in twenty twenty two. I mean, that team mediocre throughout the year, but they made that run and really started playing well. They brought back everybody. The following year. You remember that John Caleb Blove and yeah I were underwhelming, Yeah,

Bay Coot and RJ. Davis and the team chemistry was bad. It didn't It just didn't work. Not to say that those guys were all jerks and that you know, there was some crazy stuff going on behind the scenes, but just the chemistry wasn't there, and it showed last year when RJ. Davis ended up becoming you know, I mean, they didn't need ktle Bluff. Carolina was much better without Love. Not to say he's not a good player, but everything else worked better without Caleb Love, and RJ.

Davis ran the show and he had a phenomenal season, was he I think he might have been a SC Player of the Year. And then Caleb Love at Arizona and he's the man there. He wins Pack twelve Player of the Year. So you know, chemistry is really important, but it's not as if this group a week ago had good chemistry or bad chemistry, they had

no chemistry because they never, like they've never played together. So I'm encouraged to hear that these guys, you know, because again they're all coming from different styles, different systems, different backgrounds, but there is there is some similarities between not all of them, but a lot of them, and that is sort of this blue collar, you know, dog work, you know,

very motivated. But I mean, we brought Terrence Edwards on the show a few weeks ago, and you know, he mentioned one of the first things I asked him about what really attracted him to Pat Kelsey and his staff, and you know, he talked about everybody's dogs. And I think I knew what I mean. He wasn't talking about everybody's dogs meeting their pets, but like he was saying that everybody on the team like their dogs. And

that's sort of I guess the culture that Pat Kelsey's had before. Everybody's gonna what they get and it's easy to say those kind of things. But I think, again, just knowing what we know about a lot of the players you've added via the portal, I feel like that's kind of already part of their DNA, which is a good thing. So again that's the that's the big news that Coleman Hawkins experience, whatever you want to call it, is over because he's now not going to visit and it sounds like he will end

up probably going to SMU. I mean, I feel like I don't know. Here's the latest from Colemenhawkins. He tweeted out again this guy again doesn't matter. But like he deletes tweets all the time. Did he delete the tweet saying he was getting off the app? No, he kept that up. But then earlier he tweeted out. Is that he tweeted out, I guess everything happens for a reason, and like not a it was like kind of a I guess a sad emoji, you know what I mean, which

again kind of confirmed what I guess. A lot of people are doubting that. They just don't believe louisvill would would not would would would back out. But that's that's exactly what happened, and I think that tweet from him insinuates that. But then he deleted it. Now he read so now he's only his latest I guess tweet on his timeline is not his. It's a retweet from Jeff Goodman that says Colemanhawkins is set to visit Kansas State this weekend.

Now so last minute change, He's now going to visit Kansas State. And uh this this other little tidbit here in the tweet from from Goodman says one major misnomer with Hawkins. I'm told there's no asking price of two million. He obviously wants to be compensated fairly for the current marketplace, but this is more about fit, the chance to develop play for a winning program and for a coach that will get the most out of him. So here's here's something

that I think is very realistic here. And I don't believe that. Again, I don't know if Louisville was ever going to pay two million, I don't. I don't believe that. I think they felt like they could pay and offer him in an il situation that would have been attractive enough for him to pull the trigger and say yes. I mean I never we'll never know. So maybe I shouldn't act and say, hey, he was going to visit, and he would for sure said yes, we'll never know. Now.

But Aaron Torres I think put it out earlier this afternoon, and it makes sense. He says. He feels bad for Colemanhawkins came back for a big nil bag, but he waited so late. Most marquee rosters are already set and most anile money has been spent less than for next year's guys. If you're going to withdraw from the withdraw the deadline, your agent better be working behind the scenes to make sure there's a landing spot for you. So

look, Colemanhawkins. He'll find a spot, he'll make money, and he'll probably probably be pretty good. But he did, I mean, he did wait till the very last minute, and again he didn't have a whole lot of conversations with programs from what I understand, until he officially pulled out of the draft, which again it's been pretty I mean, he was out there

from day one. He didn't want to come back to school. He wanted to go to the NBA, but the NBA, I think made it quite clear that you may not get drafted, and obviously back being back in school, making money and then entering the draft next year is probably what's best for him and him being picky, saying he doesn't want to play in the Big

Ten or the Big East. Can't help either of him. Yeah, I mean, I just you know, I don't want to act like anything he's ever done and said on social media makes him like a you know, a character risk or anything like that, or a guy who you know you wouldn't want on your team. But it's just it's just unusual to see And I can't even claim that like it's because he's childish, but I get why other

people would see it that way. Right, Like we had that clip we played the other day from Sam Vassini discussing why NBA teams weren't as impressed with him, and he said that it's because they do want to see more maturity from him. So, you know, he'll probably end up at Kansas State because I would imagine go to Kansas State before he go to SMU. But I don't know if he ends up at SMU will be playing against him next

year because they're in the ACC now. All right, So a lot of other things we need to get to throughout these next two hours and some change. The Dan Hurley situation. Sounds like he's in LA today. His family and I still have a hard time thinking then he won't be the Lakers coach. But the longer it drags out, I guess I can see a scenario where he does have a hard time pulling the trigger and leaving such a great

situation. We got a lot of other things we need to get into today, so let's go ahead and take a quick time out, save some time for the show so we can, you know, get into all these things. I'm you know that I've got planned for us throughout these next two hours, so stick with us. It's coffee and company. We are feel about Thorton's right here on Sports Talk seven ninety As picky of an eater as you are, John, I'm gonna assume you don't like onions. I do.

I like onions. Really surprises me. I'm not an onion guy, but it's mostly just because of texture. Onion flavor is good on stuff, and I don't like you know, I don't despise onions, but onions stink, man, they do. So my wife brought home some pizza last night, and she doesn't eat a lot of leftovers. So sometimes if it's something I would eat, she'll bring it home and it'll be my lunch the next day.

That's what I did today. So I had before I left, I heat it up a piece of for pizza, and it had like little onions on it, and I was trying to pull them off and I was able to do that effectively. And I just put my hand near my face before we're coming back from break, and I can smell the onion on my finger. It is so disgusting. Now, I wouldn't do onions on pizza, wouldn't you agree? Though? Like onions stink? Oh, I mean it smells like in the right setting, though, it can smell good. Oh

my, what setting is that? I guess when you're about to eat more or eat something with an onion, it just it's got I don't know, attached them, something like that, like bo leftover onions that you were eating. Body odor smells like onions like it. When I smell bad, Like when I smell somebody that's got bo, it gives me I get a hint

of you know what onion smells like. Another thing that I feel like can be comparable in terms of it can smell bad in the wrong setting is fish, But if you're out in the seafood place, it smell pretty good. Yeah, that's true, but yeah, I need a next break. I'm gonna go wash my hands because very very gross. It's coffee and Company here on Sports Talk seven ninety feel Beth Thornton's make sure you sign up to become a member of the Thornton's Refreshman Awards program. If you haven't already, you

can do it at Refreshment Awards dot com or download the app. So we have an update on the Scotti Scheffler officer Officer Gillis, and I mean we knew once the charges were dropped. The press conference took place and LMPD announced via press release that they would be releasing more I guess, you know, I don't remember what if they called it evidence or if they called it photo or audio video, whatever it may be, but they were going to release

it once things are redacted. Well, I guess it's been redacted because we now have some pictures of Officer Gillis after the fact, his pants, his booboos, and we have audio. So apparently he turned on his body cam but only audio, which I guess video wouldn't be it wouldn't be relevant after the fact, but he turned it on after everything ended, and there's only and there's audio from that which before we play it for you. I mean,

why would he have it off and then turn it on? Like I mean, just even if it's not because he was trying to get away with doing something shady, it's still not following protocol and you lose the ability to say that it wasn't working, you know what I mean, like a malfunction. You just literally weren't prepared to do your job because you're supposed to have that on. But you you haven't heard this yet, have you. No?

I've seen the photos though, oh man. I mean, like I'll go back to what I said the day that they announced that charges were dropped and Romans did his thing, and really, you know, body bagged LMPD every step of this entire situation. Every time there's an update, which today there's an update, there's more more, you know, evidence from the whole

situation. It looks more and more bad for LMPD and specifically Officer Gillis because the day that it happened, I remember thinking, well, surely, like come on, like I get it, Like cops can get hot headed and abuse their power and let emotions get in the way from actually doing their job, But you know, I'm going to give them the benefit of it out like probably shouldn't have happened where Scotty Scheffler goes to jail and gets arrested in

charge with a felony. But there's got to be something there that led for it to get to this point, Like there's got to be more to it, Like what are we missing? Are we going to find out that Scotty Scheffler called him a bad name, talked about his mama, Like, like what led to it getting to that level where he's thrown in jail for you know, five minutes seemingly and we still have no evidence And I don't.

I don't because he didn't. Like this is exactly what everybody who doubted LMPD for doing the right thing and handling it the way they were supposed to, specifically Officer Gillis was right. What this is is a law enforcement officer who got his feelings hurt, abused his power seemingly, and just made this thing

into something it did not need to be at all. We already knew that with the evidence that has been presented to us and made public in recent weeks, but the pictures of his pants we'll start there before you guys hear what he had to say after the fact. I mean he has a small rip, like a little hole on the back of his pants, and then I

mean that's pretty much it, is it not? So if you guys want to, I just retweeted Paul Miles, who was in our newsroom, Paul Miles of news Radio eight forty whas I just retweeted the picture that he posted of the pants. But there's some other images as well. His knee. I'm not kidding you. My son last night playing basketball, he's four.

My son last night outside fell down on his knee and he had a bigger scab cut whatever you want to call it than Officer Jealous who acted like you know, I mean, he this is I'm speechless, the injury to the knee. My son had a bigger whelp, a bigger you know cut on his knee last night and he's four, and he got up and kept playing. This guy threw somebody in jail because of this what a I mean,

I'm it all got handled to where charges were dropped. And Scottie Scheffler is the one who was, you know, caught up in this and he seems to be handling it better than anybody possibly could, better than I would, but it's still is just insane. I'm I'm, I'm speechless as to like, like, how's this guy not fired? He already had issues as a law enforcement officer before that probably doesn't warrant getting fired, but if it did,

it wouldn't surprise me. But like, this guy created this entire situation and he's making LMPD all look bad because of him. And unfortunately, that's you know, there could be a few bad cops in different law enforcement you

know, different police departments across the country. It doesn't mean that everybody's like that, and that's unfortunate because if you have a few, or maybe just one that does bad things they're not supposed to do, you know, it's a black eye for everybody, which isn't fair, but that's just how it works. Like, I know, there are many great law enforcement officers here in Louisville that are that you know, do things the right way and wouldn't have let this happen. But man, this guy is a clown. I

mean, go look at these pictures. It's crazy and I can't I don't know how this works, but I can't tell if you know, he had to prove that he was hurt, meaning they're like, okay, well, if you're gonna if we're gonna throw these charges on and we need to see like the injuries or is is this guy just such a clown, such a delusional buffoon that he's like you come look, come look at come look at my knee. I mean it looks like he scratched a bug bite. It

doesn't look it's not a wound. I mean, what a clown. And then to release the statement that he released after the fact, like I did get dragged, if that's one he didn't, because again, there were witnesses that were willing to testify and told both the county attorney and Scheffler's attorney Romans, that they saw it. They didn't have video, they weren't filming, but they saw it and that he did not that that didn't happen. He did not get dragged by Scheffler's vehicle, and Romans, I thought, you

know, said it best. If he was dragged, they wouldn't drop charges. If he legitimately dragged an officer, mistake or not, they wouldn't drop charges. And to be honest with you, they probably shouldn't. Now, maybe you can lower the charge, but like you can't even if it's a mistake. You can't be driving with a law enforcement officer attached to your vehicle. But that didn't happen. So like I'm just I don't know. It doesn't matter, makes no difference, but I am curious, was it is

this? I mean, I'm sure it's protocol, but just I can you know, given how this thing's been handled, especially by Gillis since day one, Like I can see him like wanting to show everybody his knee as if the gonna you know, drop to any of themselves and say a prayer and hope that he survives and hope that he has a speedy recovery. I mean, what a clown. And now see one of the replies. Actually I want to bring one of them. It's funny. Maybe it's childish, but

I think it's funny. That's a weird spot for poop to come out from. Yeah, maybe he didn't, in fact poop his pants like I thought he did. I could be wrong there, but you know Boo Boo's poopoos. It's allah, I mean, it's I mean, in again, there are four clips that our news team put together from Officer Gillis after the fact, whenever Scheffler was in the police car. And here they are. So I'm gonna have to play them individually because these are news cuts for our news

station. But uh, here is the first one. I think this is when the officer, the other officer I guess was talking to Scheffler that we did here, who I don't think handled that very well, to be honest with you, but I mean, come here, they want to talk to you too. Man, Yeah you are. I'm pissed. My pants are ripped. I had this scrape on my knee and my wrist. I'm pissed. I'm pissed. I mean, I feel like we should make that a

job. That's and that's again. I mean that is again you like you let your you got your feelings hurt, like you let your emotions like I mean, if that gets you pissed and worked up to where you you know, have to file a felony charge. Like man, I don't know if, if, if this is the right lane for you. My man, It's like he went around everybody else. We already had a line of them trying to come in, and he decided he's going to be recording. No,

was at a time was it wasn't expecting to run over. Wasn't expecting to get run over? Is that? I mean? I mean, I think he believes he got ran over, Like I think it's you know, George Costanza type stuff, like it's not it's not a lie if you believe it, like you didn't get run over? What are you talking about? Especially with the statement where he reiterated, you know he took offense to see Roman's comments and then wanted to let everybody know he did get run over.

I mean, no, you didn't like that didn't happen. What world are you? Are you on? He goes, He goes, I want to go. My hand's on, and like no, no, not he is, I want to go. He floors it. You never floor and that never happened. He didn't floor it like you're I mean, are you are you the one that I ran? I mean my wrist, my angle,

my knee, and my rip my hand. I hope he's okay. I mean, I can see even if it is a misunderstanding and you're not wanting to take it to the level that he took it, I can see you not being like chill about it. But again to say you got run over, I mean, and if like, have you ever really like I'm just trying to this is not a great comparison, but I've hurt myself before, like you know, playing sports or whatever, or even just you know,

hit my shint on something, or like sometimes whenever you whenever you hurt yourself and you're like really like in pain, like ah, like you're really hurting because it's a Charlie horse or maybe I don't know what it is, like you can have something that really does cause you pain and discomfort, but there's no visual like proof that you're really hurt, you know what I'm saying.

So I mean, I just I wouldn't show anybody my knee. I wouldn't show anybody my my my wrist because it would make you look as if you're not very tough. But again, that's you know, maybe he was really hurt. I mean clearly he was, because he was that emotional about it and he was pissed, as he said. I just I feel like the adrenaline in the situation probably caused him to overreact in this way, and he wasn't thinking, well, I hate to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe I'm not by saying that, but he's still shouldn't fair. He still shouldn't have made this what it was. Yeah, and you know, I don't know why there wasn't a chance to talk it out, and they did talk. You heard there that the you know that last clip I played, you could hear Scheffler talking to him briefly, and I just feel like in most instances that would have that would have at least calmed the situation a little bit to where you could have still been upset but understood that what you

what you decided to do initially wasn't overreaction and doesn't need to happen. And that never I guess crossed his mind. So yeah, I mean it's I mean, you even heard the office or who asked him did you have your body cam on? And he said no, because I didn't expect to get

run over. I mean, you know, I'm not gonna I can't read anybody's mind, but he could have just been asking him because like, you know, they're gonna need that, or also like you know, we're supposed to it his policy, So like I hope you did have it on or maybe he's thinking, like, I don't know if I believe what you're telling me, because it's not adding up, like you don't look that hurt, and I didn't see anybody floor it like you said, I didn't see you

get dragged. But maybe if you have it on cam, then we'll be able to show that, like, I don't know. I mean, again, I can't speak for the other officer who asked him that, but just again, to go back to the first day this happened, I think it was it three weeks ago today? Was it two weeks I think it was three weeks ago today when this whole thing happened. It was the day before you left for your trip, wasn't it. Yeah, so I think that

was three weeks ago. Yeah. I mean, unfortunate situation all the way around, but there's no scenario it needed to go that far, and it's just a bad look unfortunately. All right, quick break will come back and wrap up the three o'clock hour and keep this thing rolling along. I'm curious if we get any Danny Hurley updates today. I know he's visiting la Maybe he falls in love while there and gives him the yes, or maybe you know he comes back to Connecticut. I think the longer he drags out,

the better chance there is of him not going to the Lakers. But I still believe as of now, he's going to be in the NBA, not in college basketball next year. And that's a bummer. I really do think that that's not a good thing for college hoops. Quick break, keep a lock right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Who is this? I'm just enjoying the SpongeBob cartoon. Okay, I don't I didn't recognize the voice. This is uh so, Okay, I'm thinking to myself, who would make

a song about ripping pants? But then you mentioned cartoon SpongeBob, and you know, I could see it be in that in there somewhere. SpongeBob became really big right after, Like I was not a little kid anymore. That was my prime cartoon as a child. Yep, you know about rug Rats? What about Hey Arnold? Yeah, it's the football Head. Yeah. So those were the big cartoons when I was a kid. But I didn't watch a lot of cartoons as a kid. It was never really never really

my thing. All right, we got very little time left here in the three o'clock hours, so let me use the time. We do have to talk about something very important and that is who you need to turn to when it comes to buying or selling a home, and that's my friends at Edlin and Edlin. They'll help you throughout the process. The process, from my perspective, is not a pleasant one, right, Just everything that goes into buying and selling a home just sounds like a headache. But it's you know,

it's necessary because it's a big purchase. It's the biggest purchase you'll probably ever make in your life buying a home, so you want to make sure you get everything done correctly and Elan and Eedland can help you do that but also make it a breeze for you to where it doesn't really feel like it's a stressful situation. They'll take care of a lot of it. Now. Obviously you've got to do your part right, you got to be there to

sign papers, closing and all that. But they'll be with you throughout the process. And also they will save you a lot of money. They have a one percent buyer's rebate. They also will list your home for just one percent. These things help you save a lot of your hard earned money throughout this process. And I don't know about you guys, but I I enjoy being able to save money. I need to be able to save money. So Eveland and Eland can help you do that. Give him a call FABO

two five hundred. Check him out online at elon dot com. All right, so here's the latest with with with Hurley. Apparently Yukon is prepared to make him, you know, a higher you know, they're gonna pay him more. And I've seen a lot of folks claiming that Yukon is like low balling him because their offer will make him the third highest paid coach in college

basketball behind John caliperiod Arkansas and Bill's self at Kansas. That doesn't really surprise me, because I don't I mean Yukon, you know, I think they'll they'll figure it out, right, Like if he names a price that says, hey, this is what it's gonna take to get me to stay part of me says, they'll just say yes and agree to it, and they'll find a way to make they'll find a way to to to have that money

available. People Connecticut tax tax, the people of Connecticut have people you know sell their you know, Organs On the dark web to try me like, that's how much Yukon wants to keep this guy. But I don't. I don't think it's about money, So I don't really have a strong reaction to him. Not because he just won two national championships in a row. So you would think, given the trajectory that he's on and what he's accomplished,

that he deserves to be the highest paid coach in college basketball. I don't think Yukon can can can do that unless again they got real creative and you know, had some help on their end. But I don't, like, it's not going to be about money. If he comes back to Yukon, it won't be because they made him a rich man. I mean, he's already going to be paid a lot if he comes back, and yeah, the Lakers would put him in a different ballpark financially. You know, life

changing money is different for everybody. Meaning he's been coaching Yukon, he's been

a high level D one coach for some years now. I would imagine that, you know, the life changing money for him probably happened when he signed his contract with Yukon the first time, because I'm sure he was making a lot more money there than he was at Rhode Island and at Wagner, So I think he's probably already had life changing money, and then the Laker money could probably make it to where it's even more life changing, because we're talking

about, you know, potentially making fifteen sixteen million dollars a year, which is a lot of money. So I don't think it's going to be about the money. I think it'll just come down to does he want to take that challenge? And I still think he will go to the Lakers because of the timing here, like what else does he have left to accomplish at Yukon?

And in fact, there are some that really struggle when they're in a situation like this where they know that, hey, I've really proved that I am one of the best of all time and I've already been at the top two straight years. You know, you find yourself thinking, man, does it really get better than this? Like you know what's next? You know, I could win a title again and it'll feel great, But man, like you know not that he would be unhappy if he keeps winning national championships.

But Billy Donovan after he won back to back titles at Florida. He talked about this years ago where he battled with like depression because he sort of felt lost, like he really did achieve something he probably never thought was realistic

for him. Maybe he did, I don't know, but the success he had at Florida in those two years where he went back to back championships, you know, you don't win a title the next year and it's like a big leutdown and you can still be really good, but like you may never win back to back titles again. You could be a great coach and never win another title again. So I think moving on to the NBA makes a lot of sense for him, and LA is the best job you can probably

get. But I really think it. You know, if it was me, it would come down to, you know, just how much am I going to be able to run this team? Like how much am I going to have to? Let you know? How much is Lebron gonna dictate what we do? Which you know it sounds crazy, but no, like, let's be real, Like Lebron James, I mean, he's he's I mean,

he's the coach a lot of times when he's wherever he is. I mean, I don't say that tongue in cheek literally like he used to make fun of Tylo when he was the coach of the of the Calves whenever Lebron was was there the last time like Tylou in the huddle, I mean like Lebron would just kind of like irt, like nudge him out of the way, like come on, I got like I got this. And I still think Dan Hurley's the kind of guy they would want to coach basketball like that.

But we'll see, all right, two hours left. Stick with us right here, it's coffee and company. We are feel about Thornton's right here. On Sports Talk seven ninety
