It's time for Coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven nine day. Holy crap, I don't know who the hell we think we are. Get off our show, idiot. The kids are crying or turning off, crying. The countries are screwing it up. Gold Play inter Murals, Brother, gold Play inn Murals. They're supposed to be mature adults, but they're really not. Who's the kid here? Who's the kid here? Are

you kidding me? Now? Here's Nick Coffee. All right, ladies and gentlemen, let's get it started here Coffee and Company fueled by Thornton's Here on a beautiful Monday afternoon. My name is Nick Coffee, the company man, mister John all on alongside today, and I'm back. I feel like I wasn't gone that long, but it was, I guess, three days last week, and then of course I enjoyed the weekend. So it's been a little while and it's a good day to be back because once again can return

feeling as if I didn't miss out on a whole lot. I mean, there was some things that certainly would have been fun to talk about, and I'm sure the likes of the crew that filled in. You've got Scott Fitzgerald, Tony and Dave those guys, so I'm sure they were able to keep you guys highly entertained in my absence. But we do return here on a big sports day. I mean, I've got a little bit of fomo because I'd be lying to you if I told you I'd give a damn about what

happens in these two games tonight. But you have Game three of the College World Series Texas A and M and Tennessee. I think that starts at like six o'clock. And then tonight Game seven between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers, which again that's two teams. I mean, you got two games

that a champion will be decided. Obviously, the NHL and college baseball are not up there when it comes to the most watched sports in America, but still, I mean, two championship games in one night, especially when you

don't usually get a whole lot going on in late June in sports. So I'll start with a question, John, do you have a sport that you feel like you wish you were more into, like to where you could you know, you just kind of have that fear of missing out to where Man, you you wish you had the same energy and excitement that fans of these teams have. For me, it would probably be hockey. Same here the

first time I experienced that. Whenever I was down at WKU, there was a lot of Nashville Predators fans that I was friends with, and they were all super into it. But I just never understood it because I never had a reason to cheer for hockey or even really watch hockey. Oh, I guess that's right when you were in when you were at Western, that was right when I guess they were. I mean, I feel like they were somewhat new at that time, the Preds, they were definitely the Yeah were

good. Yeah, And it was really it was a really good look for Nashville because you know, they had the Titans for quite some time, but they got them because the Oilers, you know, they left where they were in Texas. But it was a really good showing for Nashville as that city was exploding and still seems to be exploding in popularity population. To me, I mean, it just seems like the last place I'd want to be, unless maybe I knew where Hawkta Girl was going to be hanging out because she's

she's awesome. But nonetheless, Nashville really at the time it was booming as a city. They showed out for their team because the Preds were really good at that time. And yeah, I would have had I would I would have had some envy as well, because it would have been a fun ride. But no hockey. To me, I don't really understand it a whole lot. I mean, I know how you score a goal, and you know that's how you know whoever has the most goals wins, Like I understand

that. I mean, I know what the sport is, but I wasn't exposed to it at any level as a kid other than watching Mighty Ducks movies, which were great, by the way, some of my favorite movies as a kid, mostly just the first and the second one. The third one wasn't terrible, but it was nowhere close to the original Mighty Ducks and of course D two. But you know, it wasn't a sport that many people played where we grew up, right, It wasn't. It's just you know,

it's it's it's not something you just ended up in. Right, Like, even when I was a kid, there weren't soccer leagues like there are now. I mean, you could go play it if you wanted to, but it was more of a rare thing. Now. I feel like soccer is one of the most popular sports that kids tried for the first time.

But with hockey, it just seems as if despite the score oftentimes being you know, three to one or something like that, it all times of the game like you gotta be on alert, like you got to be you got to be on the edge of your seat because at any moment something big could happen, and that, to me is awesome. But I just have never ever been able to get into it. I don't have a team or anything like that. Like I went to it actually was the night of my bachelor

party in Chicago many years ago. The uh it was during the postseason. It was it wasn't the Cup, but it was. It was maybe first second round, and the Blackhawks were I'm not sure if they're any good now, but they're one of the better. I think that one of the better franchises in the NA, at least that's what I've heard. The song.

Yeah, so you're on the right page. I think, Well, we ended up at this really cool spot called timy O'tools in downtown Chicago, and they, uh they it was a it was a great sports bar anyway, and then as we were there throughout, we realized, Okay, this is actually the legit, like, this is the watch party spot in Chicago.

I'm sure there's many of them, but you know, I think there were actually some coaches shows and stuff like they had some affiliation with the with the actual franchise, so just not I wasn't at the game, but just being there, I mean, man, it was. It was intense, you know, watching among an entire bar of Blackhawks fans, and it just felt so empty because man, like I just went and I didn't want to be the guy like yeah, because it would be all fake, like it would

be fun. I wouldn't even be knowing what I'm cheering about. I would just like yell because they're yelling so yeah hockey. And I went to River Frogs games as a kid, but I was too young. You probably never got to experience that right when you were no. Yeah, by the time you were a young kid to where you know, you you your parents may take. I think that the team was gone we had I think I feel like we had a team prior to the River Frogs that didn't last a long

time. In fact, I'm not sure the river Frogs lasted all that long, but they played at Broadben Arena and it was just cool to have a hockey team. But you know, at that point, I didn't really I didn't really get into it. What do you say, what do you think you know more soccer or hockey? Oh gosh, I would say, first of all, I know very little about both, but I would say hockey. And it's honestly just because of movies. Like with soccer, I mean

I've there's not really a lot of well known soccer movies. Yeah, and I've not. When I say movies, I mean like as a kid, you know what I mean, like you know that kind of stuff. And with soccer, I've just never personally, there's never been any moment like you know how I mentioned just a moment ago like, hey, is there a sport that you've ever really, you know, wish you knew more about. I've never had any thought about wanting to know more about Soccer. Doesn't interest

me. It's just not my kind of thing. I'm not here to crap on it because clearly it's actually the most popular sport on this planet that we live on. It's just not for me. It's not my cup of tea. I don't you know, clearly, it's it's popular elsewhere, and you

know, people like what they like, you know what I'm saying. So I would say, just because there's been at least a little more interest on my end when it comes to hockey, that I you know, I could maybe last a little longer before being exposed as somebody who knows absolutely nothing. You bet you know a lot about soccer? Do you never talk about soccer? But like, yeah, you're a little bit about it? On Friday with Scott Up, I bet you. I bet that I was getting a

little horned down. I love America as they say, I love it. I love it. You get the platform to talk soccer and look you could, I mean, look, feel free to bring it up if it's a notable thing on this show. Just know it's gonna be the company man's soccer take. We don't want no money. Tune in the channel out when Nick

Coffee's back there. Yeah, well I mean that. Look, I'm well aware that there are sports that I should know more about, and it would make me a little more dangerous here on these airwaves as somebody that you know, technically is hired to be a sport I mean, in mind, job is to be a sports talk host. But the one sport that I you know, I feel like not knowing a lot about soccer, hockey or even baseball, it hasn't really done much to impact me negatively in my career.

But golf is absolutely the sport that I just I mean, it's popular, you know what I mean, like, it's it's and it's I think at times it can be a pretty you know, I don't think it's going to dominate this market when it comes to talking points in sports radio, but you know, you could certainly, you know, talk some golf and people are going to be interested, especially when there's big events. It was good for me though when we had the controversy because I didn't need to know anything about

golf to talk about what was going on with Scotti Schffler. Right, that was a golf story, but it had nothing to do with golf itself. So yeah, anyways, big night tonight in the world of sports, you have any interest in watching either of these two? No, not really out here. I appreciate your honesty. I mean, it's like we, like we said at the very beginning of this, it's one of those things where we know we don't know about what we're watching. Necessarily we kind of have

the phone, but we don't want to fake it. Yeah, And I mean it would be first of all, you should never fake it, but I wouldn't be good if I tried. There are people who really good at it, and I don't mean and I don't that's not a back ended compliment, but I know people who know very little, don't care at all, but they can be. They're savvy enough to where they can get away with it. I'm not good at that because I just would feel uncomfortable knowing that

I'm just you know, talking out of my rear end essentially. But I would say college baseball, it's it's grown quite a bit. I feel like in popularity. As I hesitated there, I'm trying to think if I can pull some numbers to kind of support that, because I know they do ESPN. This is good inventory for ESPN this time of year. College baseball, especially the World Series, I mean really just the postseason NBA tournament rather it be regional Super regional. I mean, it doesn't do what they do when

it comes to bigger sports that have a bigger following nationally. But I mean I feel like tonight, you know, I probably at that time it starts at six, I think it is, which is a weird time I'm for a big time event. But either way, maybe it's seven. I'm not sure, but I'll probably here. Here's what I'll probably do, since everybody I'm sure is on the edge of their seat to get the itinerary for my plans after the shows, and that I'll probably get home at like six point

thirty six forty five. The kids will want to go outside and play. They've they've probably already driven their mother nuts for the first you know, forty five minutes of them being home, and then I'll basically come in to be the relief man. I'm coming in, you know, tag I'm tagging in while she can get ready for dinner, and I'll go outside with the kids and you know, sweat my ass off. They'll act as if they are

not bothered by heat at all because they're tougher than me. And then we'll go in for dinner and I'll probably turn that baseball game on and then I'll see the score, and then my wife will probably say, why the hell are you watching baseball? And I'll tell her, well, honey, this is it, this is the game. This is the one where we didn't we find out who wins it all. It's the college World Series in Omaha.

And then she'll probably take the remote put on an old Judge Judy episode or something from the DVR, like that's probably what's going to happen, and then after dinner, Since again I know you're all curious, we strategically try to trick the kids, right, We try to trick them into not thinking, you know, not really tricking them, I suppose, but distract them from wanting to go back outside in the awful heat. That's my night. I live a pretty exciting life, John, So yeah, I'll have it

on. I don't even know where I would find the hockey game, And again, I wish I was into hockey. But at this point, YE know, I feel like they're affiliated with TNT. But that's just that sounds right. No, I think you're right on that because they've mixed in Charles Barkley on some coverage, and they wouldn't be able to do that if they weren't in that Turner network of stations. So yeah, all right, So

there were some things that came up last week. I mentioned the Bahamas tour that we now know the Bahamas trip that louelv was going to go on. So they're gonna be in the Bahamas twice in what roughly three to four months.

So I've got some thoughts on why this trip is so beneficial, and I feel like this is a trip that fans could do more realistically than they realize, and certainly more do a then I think the the Maui Invitational, which they're not Maui, the Battle for Atlantis, which they're going to be in too, which again two trips to the Bahamas for these guys very I mean, I don't know if that was part of the pitch when you're out there building your roster, Pat Kelcey, but hey, it can't hurt your

chances of getting a guy who maybe has a year left had get to go to the Bahamas twice again. That's I think that's a pretty good selling point,

So we can get into that. Also, I don't want to, you know, nerd out too much on numbers, but there was a Yula board meeting last week, which took place I believe on Thursday or Friday, and it just gives you really some financial It gives you some financial perspective on you know, how much, you know, how much money they've had to pay out of a pocket for things that were not budgeted right, unbudgeted expenses,

budgeting challenges that they have upcoming, and some revenue goals that the university has from the athletic department. So look right now, it's I mean not this year, but next year, I think it is. That's when they're going to have to start, you know, figuring out how they can come up with, you know, twenty to twenty two million. And I believe

I could be wrong. Again, I was really you know, out of pocket the last five days or so, which was great, But I think Ohio State's the only school that has come out and basically just said, yeah, we're gonna be able to We're gonna do it. We're gonna pay twenty two million, which is the maximum were allowed to pay with this settlement, and we're and we're we're ready to do it. So I'm sure others will

do the same thing here soon because again, if you're out. I mean, I don't think anybody's at this point at a disadvantage by not doing what Ohio State has done. But I find it interesting to see little things you can do within the athletic department that will save you a lot of money.

Like, for example, John, I don't know if you know this or not, And I thought this was crazy at the time, whenever Charlie Strong was here, and I believe when Bobby was here, and hell, they may do it still, I don't know, but I just remember learning that this was a thing whenever Charlie was here, and to me it seemed like

such a waste of money and just silly to do. But they would rent out and like the team would not stay on campus, they would stay in a hotel in Louisville the day before they played a home game, and I just felt like it was really dumb, and that's expensive, like chartering a bus to take the entire team from the hotel, I mean, renting out a hotel blocking off however many rooms they have to block off like that just seems like an unnecessary expense and at the time they could afford it, and

they may be able to afford it now because maybe that's not that expensive, but there are things that you can cut that really just aren't necessary. They could get you probably not twenty two million in the bank to start paying these athletes every year, but it'll all, you know, everything adds up, So we can get into that. And I don't have any strong thoughts on it, but I continue to be really really fascinated with the Kentucky and Arkansas

fan base war online. It's a really sloppy way. I don't know how to describe it, but Kentucky fans in Arkansas fans, man, I think they kind of deserve each other, if you know what I'm saying, But they are always at it. If you can't see anything shared, Like let's just imagine some objective media members out there reporting on something about Mark Pope in Kentucky, or an objective media member for the college basketball world that is reporting

on something or sharing thoughts on Caliperiot Arkansas. I feel like eighty percent of the responses are from the other fan base, just talking mad crap about the other. Like, I think this could turn into being a really, really really heated rivalry. I mean, it already is going to be just with the storyline, But like, I don't know Pope is gonna be really get I don't know Pope's gonna go there, you know what I'm saying, because

Cal will Cal's a fiery guy. He's gonna be petty and spiteful because that's just how he's wired. And I don't say that as an insult. I just think competitors are like that. And look, he chose to leave Kentucky, but let's be real, you know, he probably would have stayed there had he gotten what he wanted, and that would you know, know, the new facility that the school was dragging their feet on. He clearly didn't

like working with Barnhart. So I just don't know if Pope's going to be the guy that that's Pope to me, seems like somebody that could keep that thing from really reaching its peak of being like, oh my goodness, this is crazy because he's he's Mark Pope. I mean, you know, no offense. He seems like a nice guy's a good coach too. He might do well there, I don't know, but like he just that doesn't seem like his brand, and he already say he's against L's down too. He's

just kind of corny. He strategically answered that without it's like, you guys, you're gonna get me in trouble. I'm not going I'm not I'm not gonna go there. And it's all because if he was, you know, very adamant that BYU like that people were going to be you know, dealt with because they were doing horns down. I mean there was when their horns down shirts at the BYU student section and he, you know, he had

to apologize in the press conference. He led the press conversation just so you guys know, that's not us, that's not who, it's not what we're about. I'm like, he's doing that at UK press coming like it's sports your dork him on now. So anyways, Mark Pope, I mentioned his brand like, he's just not somebody that I think would really, I don't know, maybe I'm totally wrong too. Maybe when it comes to between the lines, he's a different dude because I've never watched him coach a game.

I don't think ever. But he was spotted on an airplane earlier this morning. A UK fan said, Mark Pope is on my flight from atl to Lex this am. He's not only flying commercial he's flying coach. I'm sorry, he is not only flying commercially, he's flying coach. He's a man of the people, unlike cal who separated himself for everyone. So again, some Kentucky fans can look at this, Wow, this guy, I mean,

how selfless is he saving the UK basketball budget some dollars? He wants to not use a chartered plane, which most people do, but it is an it is a mean. Look, Mark Pope is going to be fine on that airplane. I'm sure he's landed safely now and he's doing just fine. But it is unusual for coaches, the coach at college basketball programs that are in the Power four now Power five, Yeah, with with the Big

East, it's unusual for them to fly like that. Now, maybe this is a one off cancelation flight issue with a chartered flight or something like that, to where this is the only option he had. But it's it's it's just not it's not it's not something you typically see. And I don't bring it up to say things are falling apart in Lexington they're you know, they're they're mid now, because I don't believe that. It's just it's just such

a drastic difference from what Kentucky was used to. And here's what I think is going to be difficult for Kentucky fans, not all of them, and I won't try to speak for them because I'm not one of them. But you you can say what you want now about Mark Pope being a man of the people. You know, he might have he might have burst somebody's baby on the plane or something, because that's that he's that kind of guy, you know. Oh no, I'll take middle seat. Don't worry, Like

could it could just be Mark Pope's brand. But Kentucky fans, I think they're lying if they say they didn't enjoy having somebody that would oftentimes remind you we first, right, Kentucky is Kentucky Blue gets in and your brand now is so different, and in fact, I think it's a little refreshing, to be honest with you, and I think there's going to be times where you're like, man, this guy's so relatable, he's one of us,

and there's really really good value there. And I mean, and I mean that from a fans perspective, because you know, Jeff Brom's one of us, right, I mean, not technically, he's got a lot more in his bank account than you know, someone like myself. But like Jeff Brom is Louisville, he'll be a Louisville fan forever, even if you know something bad happens here, I would imagine, because it would be unnatural for Jeff brom to not want to see Louisville do well. And I think Mark Pope's

the same way with Kentucky. Now, don't know if he's gonna have success, but you know, we'll see so again, there's benefits to that, but I think Kentucky fans are going to be it's gonna be a transition because I know this. They don't like people making fun of their coach for flying like a poor like us, right, like a bunch of bums like we you know, and look, if you're flying, you're certainly not poor because

it's not cheap. But you know what I mean, Like he's not flying elite, he's not flying in style, he's not you know, the million dollar man like your old coach was. This dude's flying like, you know, like a normal human, which there's nothing wrong with that. And again I think some can look at it and find it as a redeeming thing.

He's paying for his bags, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, But but again, I think they really enjoyed even when Cal wasn't winning at a high level and he had shortcomings, he had a gift of winning the offseason, carrying himself a certain way. You know, he'd talk as he would talk as if he had just reeled off a couple of national championships in the last couple of years, and you'd be eating it up. And then you think, like, wait a second, we lost to Saint Peter's las year

year. What the heck? I got fooled again, Like, you know, so he was great at that and like it's all it's all flash, right, it's not. I mean, the results is what really matters, and and Cal you know, didn't get the great results down the stretch there. So everybody I think benefited from this move. To be honest with you,

everybody did. But I also think, you know, with Kentucky basketball having a fan base that cares about this thing three hundred and sixty five days a year, twenty four hours in a day, I think you all really actually are a rarity in college basketball. You're not alone. I mean think Louisville fans are like this to an extent, but like we're going to really amplify anybody out there that's mentioning, Wow, man, Kentucky's coaches here,

Louisville's coaches here. Do you see that car that the Kentucky coach pulled up in. You see that helicopter he landed on the football field at this game to go watch this recruit play at high school? Like you we like that kind of stuff, right, So I don't know, I just what it said to me when I saw some Kentucky fans And we'll read some of the tweets coming up later because Arkansas fans again just making fun of Pope. Kentucky

fans some saying he's one of us. What a guy. And there are some Kentucky fans saying like, hey, no, this isn't call, like we need to do better. And I think, for me, first thing I thought of when I was looking at some of those comments was the leash is going to be really short if this is his brand and they're not good, you know what I'm saying, Like, because let's be real, like flash and all that stuff, it can buy you some time, right,

And with Kentucky fans and Mark poper are going to deal with that. I'm sure they know, but you don't really know until you're there. And that is even with cal and you were frustrated and you really, really, you know, wanted this thing to play out the way that it did, right, Like, I think a lot of Kentucky fans are really happy that he's gone. They didn't have to pay him to leave, and they got a coach who you know clearly loves Kentucky and he may be really good there.

But when there are some losses, which they're going to be, like, they're going to lose the teams that Kentucky you know, didn't often lose to unless you know, they played him in the first round of the tournament. And I think you're not gonna have that. Like you can't go to the back of your mind and think, Okay, well, I mean that sucks, but we know this guy is legit. He won a championship in his

third year here. Well, this guy has never played in a tournament, he's never won or he's never won a tournament game, he's never won his league. So like, I don't know, I am very interested to see how both fan bases over these next couple of years. Really, you know,

I guess it all depends on what those results are. But you know, I mean, for what we do around here, John, it's really good that there's something new and fresh for both teams, right, yes, but also you know, every now and then I kind of think like we have no I mean, this is the truth. But it as much as as much as I'm excited, didn't think Pat Kelsey's gonna do well here. I don't have a clue if that's the truth, you know, I just I'm just, you know, it's just you know, an educated guest,

wishful thinking. I should say, all right, don't go anywhere, and I mean it's stay right where you are. We're here for the next two hours and thirty five minutes on Sports Talk seven ninety. That's right, Coffee and company rolling along here on a Monday afternoon. Thank you for hanging out with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety. We are fueled by Thornton's. Make sure you sign up to become a member of the Thorntons of Freshman Awards

program. I was really missing Thornton's on my drive. I was I think the area that I was driving through would be considered the Bible Belt, which makes a lot of sense. And I'll talk a little bit about my travel in the four o'clock hour. But yeah, there were not any Thorntons along the way, so I had to stop at you know, less you know, lesser types of convenience stores, gas stations to fuel up. And I felt felt sad about it. I felt gross, but you know, it's

what I had to do. That's what I had to do, all right. If you guys want to be a part of the show, you can do that. You can give us call Fibo two five seven one seventy nine hundred and if you want to text in on the L and N Federal Credit Union text line five two six five three zero seven ninety. So the details came out last week about this trip next month, about a month from now that you have all basketball is going to be taking which it's great. I

mean, let's just start with us. It's great for this team to be able to get just as much reps as possible together and you know, being in the Bahamas in so bad. So they're going to be arriving at the Baja Maar Convention and Arts and Entertainment Center on site at the Bajamar Resort in Nasau on July the twenty eighth. That's a Sunday. They're going to play two games, one on Tuesday, one on Thursday. It's going to be against international competition. And I don't think we know in fact, yeah,

we don't know who those teams are. It'll probably be you know, players that have have connections to the Bahamas. I mean, I know at times there's been like national teams or just pro teams that play in other countries that have traveled to play college teams in these kind of situations. I don't know if that's the case, I would imagine it'll probably be the type of teams that you know, you saw when Louisville went to the Dominican Republic and when

they went to the Bahamas years ago, because it is is expected. This is the first trip they've taken like this since twenty fifteen. So you know, I don't think they're going to play any any teams that have you know, former high level college players. But hey, if that's the case, then you know that just be more competition, a better a better you know, a better test. I suppose, So this this is I mean, I'm not gonna act like this is super affordable and cheap for everybody, because

I'm sure that's not the case. But I would be highly highly shocked if you you could, if you could get to this thing a lot. I mean, I'd be highly shocked if you can't get to this thing a lot cheaper than you can if you try to go to the Battle for to the yeah, the Battle of for Atlantis, which you know, I would imagine

both would be great if you can go to it. But I mean if you just go to Expedia and you look up a flight, uh, and you know this resort, I mean it's you know, you could if you if you leave like on Monday and you leave or if you leave Louisville on Monday or wherever you're traveling from and you get home on Friday. I mean, it's it's probably about nineteen hundred bucks. That's what I saw. I mean, I didn't go through the specifics. I was just trying to get

a ballpark range of what it cost. And when you look at it on Expedia, this specific resort, there is a twenty two dollars a day added fee because of this event, So I don't think that includes tickets of course, if you're just buying it through Expedia, you're not going through the company that's putting this on, which is I mean, the event is the Baja

Maar Hoops Summer League BDG Sports, which is actually located in Lexington. They're the promotions company that is putting this on, so they'll have I'm sure VIP tickets, you know, fan tickets to where you can purchase through you know them officially and you know, heck, I'm sure you'll be in fact right now, you know, I'm looking at the VIP packages they have here at

the Baja mar Hoops dot com website. And by the way, this is the same place where Louisville played in the Baja Whatever in I think twenty it was, Yeah, it was Max last year, but mackweddin there. It was when Mike mcgeese coached and actually won that and then of course went on

to have a really bad season. So I would imagine if you go through, you know, if you if you've got the means to go through the actual resort Baja More Hoops dot Com and get the accommodations at the official team hotel in the VIP packages, then I'm sure it's going to be great. But I think if you really want to go and you're trying to be as uh, you know, as cheap as possible, I think you could probably do it more affordable than you might expect. But that's just you know,

and that's relative. That all depends on what everybody's financial situation kind of is. I don't think I'm going to be able to go, but I know, I know, I'm looking into it to see if I could potentially make it work. And yes, that would be great for the show to be there. But also I want to see this team play. I mean, this is a brand new team. Of course, we are in a brand

new era. We've seen highlights of these guys. We've seen clips of them in practice in the last couple of weeks, which is nice to see. But man, I want to see these guys in action, and I want to overreact in a good way or maybe a bad way, because that's what

we do. There was really no reaction that was worth much of anything for the last you know, year and a half, because you know, if you're someone like myself, I think we knew for quite some time, man, this thing, meaning the previous era, it was it was doomed. But yeah, I'm hopeful I can make it, but I wouldn't you know. I'm hoping I can make something happen, but I doubt it ends up

working out. And also another reason why I'm gonna exhaust all options to to find a way to make this work is because I don't see anything listed as far as any way to see these games unless you're there now. I'm sure UL is going to have their crew on hand and they'll be able to, uh, you know, they'll be able to do something to where you can

get a bunch of highlights, like condensed highlights or something like that. But I don't know if they're allowed to just throw it up on go cards dot com as a stream because technically the new grant of rights deal with the with A with the ACC. I don't think they allow you to do that. I could be wrong, but you know, I don't think you can. I don't think you can do that because technically you don't own you the rights of your broadcast. The a SEC network does, and the a SEC network

is certainly not going to cover this live. I wish they would. I wish they'd even do a tape delay or something. All right, let's go to the phone lines. Five two, five hundred is the number if you want to join us. Let's welcome in. Jerry, Jerry, you're on Sports Talk seven ninety. What's up, Hey, Nick, want to talk to yo L basketball first? Uh. Actually actually reached down to Eric Crawford the other day and have a subtle, you know, back and forth with

him on emails. He's nice to me, and and and I said, Hey, is there any chance that that's going to be televised? And he expressed doubt. He hasn't said that it's one hundred percent out, but I was hoping it would be televised, you know, and and and you know, maybe radio or whatever. But at the end of the day, I hope somehow or another the footage ends up on YouTube at least, because I'm like you, I'm chomping at the bit to see something of this team.

I do have a question for you from a from a negative perspective, I think the trip. That only negative thing I see about the trip is say you're the last gal off the bench, and you think, well, hell, he's showing his hand. I'm not gonna play. I'm out of here.

I mean, I could see that happening in today's basketball world, yes or no. Yeah, it sounds it sounds, you know, far fetched, but it really isn't given the climate currently with players, and it's a When you said that, it reminded me of what Lane Kiffin did during spring ball, where he did not give any depth chart, he didn't get any reps for any like. He made it quite clear these guys weren't gonna really know where they stood because he didn't want them up and leaving, which Louisville

dealt with that. They had guys that, you know, for I'm sure other reasons too, but you know, they got to see where they were and they bailed. So yeah, I hadn't thought of that. Yeah. Okay, So another thing too, talking about Pope flying coach. I'm with you, that's all good and well, and he's a man of the people as long as he wins, yep. But if he loses, they're gonna

they're gonna pick that apart back to them again. Don't like to talk that program much, but the Arkansas Kentucky thing Pain getting on the staff ruined the whole thing for me as a Louisville fan, you know, because I was really looking forward to to Caliperry going there and coming back and whipping them. And I thought it had been funny. But once Pain was a part of it, I guess now I can't lose. Whoever loses, it's good. It's good either way, you know what I mean. But I was really

hopeful. I was really gonna have fun with it, you know. But when Pain went on the staff, I said, oh man, that sucks now. Now did you see you was talking about the board meetings, you see where he's gonna receive two hundred and twenty grand a month for like a long time, you know, and it's crazy. Yeah, And real quick about soccer, I got a story for you. Okay. Years ago, Adam Lefkole was at Whas and he came on his like six o'clock news, you know, at six point twenty, and he threw out a bunch of

soccer scores from overseas, Manchester City and all that stuff. And I called him and left him a message. Of course, he was in between sick, he in between his six pm and his eleven PM show, and I'm like, I'm like, you know, in a nice way, I'm like giving him hell, I said, give me a call man. I said, you don't know this town. Blah blah blah. He calls me and he and we went back and forth and he thought it was so funny. And he goes, you watch eleven o'clock to night. Jerry, I'm gonna

give you a shout out. And I forget how he got it. That sounds just like left goo. He sounds He's a good dude. Okay, I will say this real quick. Uh when I when I look at soccer, I sort of look at it like Rick Patino. You just talking about our Michael Wafe society. I think that's the problem. So they don't score enough. There's not enough action, you know. I mean, Jerry, there's a really really good there's a really really good and I appreciate the call.

Brother, good to hear from you. There's a really good clip that I need to dig up, and I may do it. I may dig this clip up, maybe even today, just because of the timing. And I thought, you know, I don't know if it'll ever be relevant. But it's Michael, not Michael Wilbaum, but Tony Corneiser. Get those two. I mean, I know who each of them are, but of Krnheiser. It was shortly after he left radio he got into doing his own podcast,

and he gave I thought the best discretion. I felt like he was speaking for me, and obviously he can speak a lot better than me, even for me when it comes to sort of why soccer has never really fully taken off like other sports around here. And I just thought it was really well done. And I may dig that up because I think if you're somebody like me who is in that same boat, it's very well put us to what's kept you from really just latching onto a sport that again is the most

popular sport on the planet. But if you're somebody that is a snob of soccer, I thought Kornheiser did a good job of kind of making it to well, Okay, yeah, you know, I get it makes sense, like we probably could do a little better as far you know, like I get it, like it makes sense as to why maybe around here in America, what we've become really really used to with the sports that are popular and the culture that comes with it and the competitiveness, the action, like it's

just different. But yeah, so I got to know Adam left COO and I still know him. I just you know, I know now now when I see Adam Leftko, it's me scrolling TikTok or Instagram and he's doing a show with Charles Barkley or Shaquille O'Neil or Duwayne Wade like left co h. You know, my guy blew up in a major way. He's super talented. But when he was here at Louisville at WJS WHS eleven, uh, he you know. And by the way, I always thought it Leftko before

I got to know him a little bit. I thought he was like four or five years older than me. I think he's a year younger than me, which blew my mind, really made me feel old. But nonetheless, you know, he really he really enjoyed hearing from like listeners like he wasn't something he wasn't somebody that would be bothered that, you know, a caller would would leave him a message saying, Hey, what the hell you're doing

talking about soccer you're in Louisville. He would think that was funny. And I can literally, you know, hearing from Jerry over the years on this show and knowing Adam a little bit like I can, I can, I could, I could picture myself being a fly on the wall when he's getting

Jerry's voicemail and he calls him back and they're going back and forth. And in fact, you know, if Left Coast telling the story about a guy calling angry because he didn't know anything about this market talking soccer what he had doing, and then I later found out it was Jerry Loyal, Jerry who calls this show, I would be like, absolutely, it was Jerry, of course it was. And I say that as a comple You know, Jerry is somebody who you know, he's going to tell you what he thinks.

He's going to share this on his opinion, and you know, I think that's the way. There's what everybody should do. So good stuff, All right, quick break, we'll come back on the other side. And every now and then, man, the Internet just gives us comedy that a lot of people pre Internet were deprived of. And every now and then there's something that just completely takes over the Internet that if you had told somebody it was going to happen before it happened, they'd never believe you. And that's

hawktuah, we'll talk about that next. That's right, we're back. I mean, the show was here, but I wasn't here, so I'm back. It's coffee and company. We are feeled about Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety big shout out to my friends over at the Louisville Men's Clinic, Fellas. They've helped me and they can help you. Maybe it's a rectilitys function, maybe it's low testosterone. Maybe you want to lose weight, maybe

you want hair restoration. There's a lot of different services they provide at the Loible Men's Clinic, and you may not even realize that you could be a

lot healthier, a lot happier in your life. You know, low testosterone is something I know that for me, I didn't really know what it was, and then I heard how common it was for someone to be in my situation not even realize that the reason they feel like they've lost their edge in the gym and they're lethargic and just very tired in the middle of the day or even you know, feeling like you can't stay awake past eight o'clock. I mean, it's low testosterone. So I thought, well, maybe that's

me. And I wasn't to that extreme, right, I mean, it wasn't as if I was falling sleep all the time, and I was relatively good health, but I just felt like there was something missing, and there was there was not enough tea. My testosterone was low, but not anymore because Woiveman's Clinic has helped me in a major way. Give them a call, FABU two four four four four thousand. Check them out online at Louisville

Men's Clinic dot com. All right, so, you know, I find myself wasting a lot of time, unfortunately on the app that is TikTok, which I really hope they never get rid of it, but you know, sounds like maybe that could happen. I don't keep up with that, but I'd probably have a lot more time to be productive if I didn't have TikTok to just get lost in sometimes. But I saw this on TikTok, I

don't know when, and I saw that it became a bigger deal. But I had no expectation for this to become really one of the most talked about things on the planet, seemingly. And that is a girl who I think has been identified. I don't know her name, but her name is Haley welch Okay. And there was a report that she got fired from her job.

That's another one of the many, many things people just see and believe on the Internet without any legitimate reporting of it, not even I mean, it's just it's crazy where we are with the Internet, and it's so valuable to us. I can't imagine life without it. But how do we get so gullible? Like a Rando could have tweeted Haley Welch gets fired for you know, the hawk Tua comment that's gone viral and there could be no link,

there could be no legitimate source. It's just a Rando dude on Twitter tweeting it and people will share it as if you know, it could have a million retweets, and everybody just gets lost in believing that it's true without any thought that it could be made up. I don't know. I hate to think that we should just always assume something's fake until we do some vetting

of our own, but I think that's what we need to do. But anyways, I'll let you guys hear the clip and if look, if you're somebody that doesn't know what I'm talking about, you haven't seen it, you don't know, I mean, didn't look. That's like that that's honestly shout out to you because you're not getting you know, lost in the weeds here on the internet. And I don't even really know what what fascinates me about these kind of things. I'm not really sure what makes it so funny.

I mean, she's a super attractive girl in her u. Answering this question the way she did made her even more of a of a dream type scenario for a lot of men out there. But here it is, what's one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time? Oh, you gotta give him that houck dude spent on that night here. So I think most people listening will know what that means. And if not, I'm not going to explain it to you. You can either look it up yourself or

maybe just you know, not be interested your call. But what do you make of it? John? I mean, how does something like that turn into this to where like Bryce Harper? Bryce Harper, was it midweek last

week or maybe over the weekend? You know, he got a he made a big play and then he's doing the hawk Tua spit on something and you know there's there's these hockey fans that are at the Oilers game, and they got custom oilers jerseys that say number twenty four and then on on the last name, it says hawk Tua. Like I asked myself the same questions. And this may be, this may be way out of line, maybe or maybe he's incorrect, but I think there's a bunch, just a bunch of

horned up dudes on the internet. Yeah, that's true. I mean, and you get you get one horned up dude with enough exposure and some something like this can go viral. Yeah, And what's crazy, I mean because what she says specifically isn't funny, but you know, dudes aren't hearing it thinking, oh man, she's so funny. They're thinking, oh hell yeah, Like that's you know what I'm saying, Like, that's that's the mindset.

So I mean, I know why it is. It is, you know, popular, and it shared because again, like she just in a matter of what four seconds there used every bit of that time to get you

know, the internet horned up. Like that's what she did. And she see like she's got a look to her to where she's clearly very attractive, but she also kind of looks and she looks we know she's not famous she is now, but she wasn't then, So like there's a level of like maybe a potential relatability, Like she's still out of out of like ninety nine

point nine percent of Americans leagues as far as far as dudes. But because she's not you know, on stage at you know, an award show or on the red carpet in Hollywood, Like there's a level of like, hell, yeah, I need one of these, one of these kind of women. But I mean, I mean just something like, for example, there's a picture here of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky and it says the og hawk

to a girl. I mean, like it's like there's the old Nintendo console with a cartridge game and when your game wouldn't start, and it's just a picture of somebody who's photoshopped one of those games in front of her face doing the you know hawk, you know hawk to a spin on it kind of thing, And it's the Internet is really the Internet exists for a variety of

really valuable and important reasons. This is not one of them. But every now and then, like I feel like we all collectively share the same sense of humor. I know, that's a clip we'll take a video a long way. It gives me a sense of like, were we all kind of in a moment here share the same sense of humor? Now, I know that's not true because there's a lot of people, including some listening right now, that think this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What the hell

they're talking about? But if you know, you know, and you know, like there's I'm sure you've seen some of the memes where it shows a you know, two people in bed together, a husband and wife, and they both have their back turned to each other, and it's like her, I bet he's thinking about other women and then him. You know this this meme says, should I ask her to talk to like? It's you know,

it's just like it's funny. I don't know why it's funny, you know, but if she wasn't that attractive, this would have never blown up, right, correct, it would have never blown up. And she's probably it's just gonna change her life. Some say that low T is now low Tua low Tua huh, low Tua well checked out of Yeah, I can say you don't want to have the low T if you find yourself a Hawktua

girl that's for sure, right absolutely. Let's say it's more you know, ed, but both right, you know, just make sure the T is correct and ed is not an issue if you if you happen to encounter one of the Hawk Tuas out there, I'm sure there's plenty more than just her, but she is now going to be known as that, whether she likes it or not. All right, two hours left. Stick with us right here, it's coffee and company. Ifel bet Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety
