It's time for Coffee and Company, fueled by Sortins on Sports Talk seven nine day. Now, here's Nick Coffee. All right, let's get it started. Hour number two here on a It's Wednesday, right, yeah, Wednesday afternoon. And appreciate you guys hanging out with us. Coffee and Company fueled

by Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety. And if you want to be a part of the show today you can very busy, busy first hour with an opening segment that really just was reacting to the news of Louisville included in the ACC SCC Challenge. I guess for the first time. Right, this is the second year that this event is happening because the yeah, the Big ten ACC Challenge ended two years ago, and then last year, you know, louisll was left out. And we'll never know, or maybe somebody will

inform me. And I don't say this to act as if I've got any kind of inside info, but I do believe that Louisville, because of Kittie Payne, didn't want to be in the ACC SEC Challenge last year. But this year they're going to be in it for the first time, and they're going to be taken on ole Miss going to host them, and that gives them another chance to really improve their resume in the non conference portion of their schedule if, of course, they can take advantage and win. So we'll

get back into that in just a moment. But again, if you want to join us, you can five x two five to seven one seventy nine hundred is the number if you want to give us a call, and you can also text in on the Llenn Federal Credit Union text line five O two six five three zero seven ninety members get more at Llenn Federal Credit Union.

You can learn more and open your account today at LNFCU dot com. All right, so Louisville's non conference schedule right now, I'm going to try to find the and the most I would say when it comes to these college basketball early you know, non you know, summer post portal, post NBA draft deadline rankings, there's a lot of them out there, and the one that probably gets more traffic and mentioned than any is the one that is for ESPN.

And that's not a knock to you know. I mean, I don't say that as if it doesn't count, because I think Jeff Borzela does a pretty good job. But you know, with the portal changing so much about college basketball, I feel like now you could see four or five different early rankings in college basketball that all look not so similar. Right, Like, again, it's going to be pretty obvious. Kansas, Alabama, Yukon, like those are going to be your preseason top three teams by just about everybody.

So you know you're going to see that. But from from really top after the top three, you can you know, I think I don't want to say you're just guessing blindly, but there's so much more un known as far as how teams are gonna go from one year to the other because of the portal, right, and you just never know. So I say all that to say when it when it comes to Louisville's non conference schedule. As of right now, I'm looking at ESPN's rankings, and again these are the

work of Jeff Borzella, who again does a good job. And right now I'm scrolling through here just to just to double check. So right now Louisville their schedule in the non conference, here's what we know. They're gonna play three non conference games against SEC teams. They'll host ole Miss and they'll host Tennessee and then they'll play at Kentucky and then the Battle for Atlantis. I don't know who they're gonna play just yet, the schedule's not out, but

they're gonna play Arizona day. Well again, I don't know who they're gonna play, but here's who's playing in the event that they could end up meeting Arizona. Davidson, Gonzaga, Indiana, Oklahoma, Providence in what Virginia. So right now, according to these rankings, Kentucky's not in the top twenty five according to the ESPN ranking, but I'm sure if you look at a few different other rankings out there, you'll see Kentucky feature in the top twenty

five, maybe even I don't know, top twenty. But Tennessee's preseason number thirteen, and Ole Miss is preseason number twenty two. So depending on who you play against, Arizona, you could face them in the Battle for Atlantis and their number nine, and they're coming off of a good season and they got Caleb Loveback who won PAC twelve Player of the Year last season. So Davidson of course not going to be ranked preseason. Gonzaga is a preseason top

five team. According to Borsello, he's got to be a number five, which we'll see. I mean, I don't. I mean, mark few usually has good teams, and they did come on hot last year, and it looked like a really down year for Gonzaga, but once again they made the Sweet sixteen, and I mean their can consistently really good again. Last

year felt like the year where they'd taken a massive step back. They look like they may not make the tournament because when you get to January and February, they're in a much different situation than a lot of other schools because they don't have really any big opportunities in conference play. So I don't know if I think they're going to be preseason top five, but you know they're probably

going to be preseason top ten by just about everybody. And they could be an opponent Louisville has to play in the Bahamas, Indiana, they could play the Hoosiers. Indiana's in my opinion, done is good a job at anybody. When it comes to roster management, they're number eighteen according to ESPN in the preseason, and I know the portal it's really just about the big names, right going and getting a guy who's already proven to be one of the

best players in college basketball. Adding him to your roster. That's as good as it gets when it comes to additions that could be made in the offseason. But I think if you really just looked at who decided to come back and which guys you brought in, I mean, I don't I mean, they're not going to get that kind of momentum. But I think you can make the case that Mike Woods and Indiana did as good a job as anybody.

I mean, they brought back everybody that you would want to bring back other than khalil Ware, who's going to be a top twenty pick in the draft. And then in the portal they crushed it. They got Billow from Arizona, who is the top ranked player in the portal according to ESPN, Miles Rice from Washington State, Canaan Carlisle from Stanford. So you know, they brought back Malik Renew, who's a good player, not to mention Mackenzie

and Baco coming into his sophomore season. So this schedule, I mean, unless a lot of these teams are frauds and not nearly as good as you would expect, this is going to be a very very challenging schedule for Pat Kelsey, which, by the way, he's going to join us tomorrow at three thirty, and I look forward to talking to him about a lot of things, including this schedule in year one, and just curious to see what

his strategy is. Right. Is he somebody that is going to try each and every year to make sure they schedule the best teams possible or is it going to be based off of, you know, who you bring back and experience. Right, maybe you go a little lighter in the non conference schedule if you know you're going to be younger than you would expect. So we'll see. But so far this schedule right now, and again we don't know

the entire schedule as of right now. And I'm not going to try to act like when you play these low D one like not even mid majors, but low majors, that it's going to be a big challenge. But Eku's coming off a season where they were super competitive in their league and nearly won it, and you're going to host them and morehead State, that's who you open up with, and you should have no problem with them, And if

you do, then maybe maybe you've got big problems. But they won their league last year, made the NAA Tournament, and gave Illinois a hell of a game in the first round. So Pat Kelsey has a very, very challenging schedule in year one, and I wouldn't have it any other way, and I'm sure he's going to embrace it. But I guess only time will tell as far as is this is going to be a consistent thing, and

I hope that it is. I really do. I hope that every year with Pat Kelsey here you see a non conference schedule that gives you a bunch of opportunities to really make make some early noise as far as you know, being a contender, not only you know, not to win the whole thing, but just you know, to kind of show show what you're made of

early on. All Right, So the matchups in the ACC SEC Challenge, it seems like right now, and again I'm just basing this off of what you're what I'm seeing on the Toxic Wasteland that is, you know, Twitter, but a lot of folks seem to be unimpressed with the matchups here. And I don't know if it's more so because the ACC is just not a great league like it used to be. Or if it's the fact that ESPN

who by the way they decide. I shouldn't say they have full control, because I'm sure the ACC and the SEC the leagues have somewhat of a say so. But keep in mind, ESPN pays for this event. This is this isn't a This is basically like them having a Bowl game, right.

This is an ESPN owned event, meaning they own the media rights to it, and with their invent that they pay, you know, to put this on, I'm sure they want a little bit of control as far as who gets to play and who doesn't, which is why I still refuse to believe that Louisville was left out last year because ESPN just decided, well, you know, Louisville finished last the year before, We're not going to include them.

I mean, even though Louisville was awful two years ago and last year, it's still a game in this event that would have given you more interest in viewership than when you put you know, Boston College against somebody. So Louisvill's going to play Ole Miss Kentucky is going to travel to take on Clemson, and I know Clemson's coming off of an Elite eight, but I don't

think they've got a whole lot of momentum heading into this upcoming season. And I'm not trying to do that, you know, I'm not trying to do the rivalry thing here and make it a slide at Kentucky. But I'd be a liar if I told you I didn't look at whoever decided, if it's ESPN or the SEC, whoever decided to put these two teams together. It almost is one of the early signs that like Kentucky just doesn't have the same sizzle as they did when John cali Perry was there. And that has nothing

to do with Mark Pope. I mean, I guess in a way it does. I mean he's the new coach, but like that's not Mark Prope's fault. Cali Perry is a larger than life figure within college basketball. If Arkansas is great, mid or terrible next year, that is still one of the biggest storylines in college basketball. John cali Perry leaving Kentucky to go to Arkansas, so they're going to be instantly more relevant at Arkansas, even if

they don't have the same success that they had with Eric Musselman. So, I mean, I just I can't imagine that Kentucky would want that to be the matchup. And maybe I'm under selling Clemson, but let's be real. They've never been relevant in any way in basketball until last year. And even last year, I don't think anybody, including myself, thought they were worthy of any momentum or I'm sure I'm sorry any buzz or love because they were,

you know, a mid team in a very down ACC. But yet they got hot, made it all the way to the Elite eight, and you know that matters. That's a that's a that's a big season. That's probably their best season in school history. But I doubt that they have that same kind of success next year. All Right, so I'm going to rapid fire through these matchups. Arkansas will play at Miami again, I think that's a missed opportunity, Like put Caliperi in Arkansas against one of the better teams

in the ACC. Put him against Duke, put them against Carolina, put him against uh He, put him against Florida State. Even I mean, I don't believe they've been bad recently, but I feel like they're more relevant than Miami overall. But either way, there are some that are you know, claiming that they're hearing, which again I don't know. This could just be internet nonsense, which you know, a lot of things that people talk

about these days I think can be chalked up as that Internet nonsense. But I would totally believe it if in fact it's true that I said I was about to say Kentucky that Kenny Payne Cali Perry wanted to make it clear that they didn't want to see Louisville in this event, and it would have been

a storyline. But it really would have been a storyline locally, like we would have been salivating at the thought of Kenny Payne bringing his bomb ass back to Louisville as an assistant to play against Louisville and Pat Kelcey like it would

have been like around here. It would have been crazy. But it may not even be something that those who put these matchups together even think about, because again, Kenny Payne, as far as just like results, is arguably the worst coach that ever coached at Division one basketball, especially at a big time program. So like it would have been a cool and I would have loved it, by the way, I would have embraced it. I would have loved the chance to see Louisville and Arkansas play each other. I mean

Takenny Payn out of it. I mean it' give you a chance to go up against Caliperry, and you know I would love that. I embrace as a fan matchups against teams or you have a chance to actually prove something. And I think Arkansas, I if you could have played them and beat them, it would have done that. Now playing Old miss also gives you a chance because again as I mentioned their preseason top twenty five in year two for Chris Beard, all right call at MISSOO. Nobody cares about that game.

Florida State at LSU. I think it's another non starter. Georgia Tech at Oklahoma, UK at Clemson, as I mentioned, Notre Dame at Georgia, South Carolina at Boston College, Syracuse at Tennessee, Wake Forest at a and M Alabama North Carolina, Auburn at Duke pitt In, Mississippi State, Texas at NC State, Vandy at Virginia Tech, and then Virginia at Florida. So those are the matchups, and as I said earlier, I wouldn't be shocked if the SEC wins this thing without a whole lot of trouble because their

league is just in a better spot. I mean, I know at times it doesn't look you know, everybody bases it off of what you do in the term, and I understand, and I really wouldn't have it any other way as far as that being how we really dictate what matters. It's what makes college basketball in a way awesomely unique but also like really stupid, because you could have a thirty thirty win season and if you lose in the first round, just about everybody involved, fan or not a fan, is going

to say that you didn't have a good year. I mean, and that sounds insane because technically you had a good season, but it really means nothing if there's not a run in March to go along with it. So I hope the ACC is better because that'd be better for Louisville for sure. It's never good if your league stinks. Even if you do end up taking advantage and winning some games, you know, it's still not going to get a

whole lot of you know, credibility, and unfortunately that matters. Right we're not using computers and just flat records to dictate who gets in the tournament and what seed you get based off of humans, right, the human element, human beings, the committee, those who decide who makes the tournament, Like, if your league is not good, they're not going to give you as much credit. And I can't say that that's unfair. And I know we've

talked about this before, but it really is crazy. Ten years ago, the SEC as a basketball school, as a basketball conference was I don't want to say a joke, but outside of Kentucky being dominant, because again that was still during the early era of Caliparia, Kentucky and they were dominant, but it kind of became a secondary conversation, a secondary storyline within college basketball that man, Kentucky's great, but their league sucks. It didn't mean that

people were doubting Kentucky, but you knew you weren't. They weren't going to be challenged in a major way for a good stretch there in in the early era of Calipari because the league wasn't good. I mean, you had Florida with Billy Donovan still there. They were good, and they made a couple final fours. I think even during his last five six years or something like that. And if they didn't make a final before, they were usually pretty

good. And then who else, I mean, you know, Tennessee, Bruce Pearl got canned and they went through a stretch where they were awful. I mean, who else was good. I can't really think of any school that was, you know, consistently good. I mean, once Auburn got Bruce Pearl, took him a while to get going when he was there.

I mean, Arkansas was really bad for a few years. In fact, that's why when they got good under Musselman many years later, I think people remembered, oh yeah, Arkansas, they used to be pretty good in basketball. So it really was a league that did not take basketball serious because they didn't really need to. And I remember hearing this on a sports media podcast many many years ago, and I wish I could credit who shared this,

because it's always stood out to me. Once the SE launched the SEC network and they had a lot more money, right, the rich got richer, Somebody, probably the commissioner of the league at the time, told these schools like, hey, we you have the financial means to do so now we got a lot of inventory to fill on the SEC network. It'd be best for everybody if these are good basketball matchups in the league gets good viewership. So I'm encouraging you to invest in basketball. And they did exactly that,

and now the league is pretty damn good. I mean, you could make the case that the SEC has the best coaches in college basketball, and it's not even close. I mean, Rick Barnes obviously, Natoates is on fire right now, Caliperi's still in the league. Bruce Pearl at Auburn. I mean you could even throw in Lamont Pair at South Carolina, who is just in his second season. I don't think people would say he's one of the best coaches in the country, but clearly they had a monster second season with

him there. And I'm sure there's some names. I mean, Buzz Williams. I don't know if I consider him to be like an elite coach, but he's pretty damn good. He's made a couple of Sweet sixteens, so they invested in basketball and it's paid off because now they they're good. I mean Todd Golden at Florida. Some people think he's like the next rising star in this I think he's like younger than me, so it is wild to think ten years ago, the difference in how this league, the SEC is

viewed in basketball. I mean, I'm not saying it's the best league and it's going to be the best league every year, but you know, the Big Ten, I mean, i'd say it's better than the Big Ten. Now, the Big Twelve, I think has earned the right to claim it's the best league in college basketball with the dominance that you've seen from some of their top teams. They're gonna get better, right Obviously with the Pac twelve dead Arizona, they're joining the Big Twelve. So yeah, I wish the

ACC was stronger. When Louisville was making their run in the eighties with Denny and really kind of putting themselves on the map, conference affiliation didn't really matter. You had a good run in the Metro and even when even in Conference USA whenever when, and I'm biased, of course, but I feel like that league actually wasn't that bad in the early stages of it when Louisville was there. But once Louisville got into the Big East in basketball with Rick Patino

here and you were consistently one of the better teams in that league. You made some final fours, won a national championship that in the league's last year. I mean I got spoiled as a college basketball super fan to where I knew, night in and night out, Louisville was playing in the best league in the country and you were gonna have opportunities at least once a week to

really add a resume win. And you had that initially in the ACC but right around twenty twenty, right around the pandemic, it really just completely tailed off. And it's not to say the league is just garbage, but I mean it used to be a league where you could go five to six d with teams that you feel I could legitimately make a run to the final four, and now it's I don't think that's even close to being the case. Now you worry about getting five teams in the tournament, and two of those

five, you know, could be playing games. All right, let's get to a quick break. We'll come back on the other side. A lot more to get into as we roll along. Appreciate you guys hanging out with us as we're about halfway through here on a Wednesday afternoon, and if you want to join us you can. In fact, I'm gonna get to the text line coming up on the other side. Five O two six five three zero sivin nineties the number if you want a text in on the Ellen and

Federal Credit Union text line, and we hope you stick with us. Right here, it's coffee and Company Feelbuth Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety Now back to coffee and company feel my sortins on Sports Talk seven nine day. You know, I wish I was more excited about Game three of the NBA Finals tonight. I mean, I'll have it on, I'll watch. I probably

won't be watching closely. I thought about betting on it, but I would just be guessing, so I probably won't waste any money, which, by the way, I am glad that despite sports gambling being legal here in Kentucky for I don't know, I guess nine months or so. Now, it's everywhere, right, It's in your face. You hear about it on commercials on this station. There's billboards all over town like it's it's not only accessible,

it's in your face everywhere. And I did worry that because I could get in on some action, that I would gamble on a lot of things that I really don't know a lot about And even if you do that, that's okay because I think most people do it for entertainment. It's not like they're doing it to try to create a side hustle and you know, become a millionaire. I mean, if you are trying to do it, do that, then you know, good luck to you. But I still have,

you know, no interest in betting on things. I know that I'm just guessing. And to be honest, when I bet on the sports that I love, college football, NFL, college basketball, I'm just guessing. So but it's an educated guess, right, I keep up with those sports. It's fun to get, you know, lost in the building of a parlay er, just building a wager and you know, thinking, yeah, I'm familiar with this matchup and this team is going to have an advantage and

the books have it wrong, this team should be favored. You know. That makes it more fun for me. And at times, you know, I have some success. I'm way better at betting on those sports than I am when I just take a wild guess at you know the NBA, and I you know, I know enough about the NBA, like I can tell you the personnel, like I you know, it's not like I know nothing about it. When it comes to sports, I know nothing about that space

ball. But yeah, with the NBA, I'm just I find it to be a very very difficult league to be profitable when it comes to betting. Now, maybe that's just because I suck at it. I'm sure there are many out there that bet on the NBA and they do well, but I feel like a lot of folks, at least the ones that I know, that really get into betting on the NBA, it's really just player props.

Which I could see that being fun and that could, but I just have regardless if it's college basketball or if it's NFL or player props have just never really done it for me. I mean, I've bet on player props before and had some success, but you know, it's just everybody has their own preference and style when it comes to wagering. Everybody wants to win, but I guess everybody has their own way in which they feel like they have the

best chance of winning. But anyways, tonight we do have Game three, which yesterday, if you are, you know, not a baseball fan, tough day for you when it comes to live sports. So no NBA playoff game yesterday, no Stanley Cup playoff, no NCAA events of any kind,

and not even an MLS game if you're into soccer. So June is usually where it really just kind of hits you right in the face if you're somebody like myself that is waiting impatiently for college football to get here, because to me, that's when a new calendar year really starts when it comes to sports, because you got the overlap right college football then NFL and NBA, then college basketball, and then you ride it all the way till till early April.

And even though we haven't had games for a while in college basketball, man, the Portal has given us a free agency season that really I think

extends college basketball as far as being in the conversation nationally. I know we talk about it probably more than most because we love college basketball around here, but I do think that's been a real big benefit of and I said it once we found out all the guys that are coming back to college basketball this current season, right once the deadline hit, and you saw the amount of really good players that were very effective and successful in college last year and even

years before that. When you look at somebody like Hunter Dickinson. And maybe this is my bias towards college hoops, but I feel like there's no sport that's benefited from the portal more as far as just being a little more attractive to those because of the off season acquisitions, right free agency. All right, So I don't watch baseball, and I think a lot of you that listen know this, but I do wish I was watching live, not only

on television. I wish I would have been there yesterday for the Guardians Reds game, because there was something that happened that had nothing to do with baseball that has become a viral story, and that is a young fan who made his way onto the field and of course, as you could expect, he was being chased down by law enforcement a not just not a security guard, but a cop who had a taser. And he got on the field and did a backflip, only to then be tasted, arrested, and a lot

to unpack here. If you haven't seen the video, I would encourage you go check it out. I'm a little impressed with the nineteen year old kid who was able to not only get out there and get all the way to the middle of the field without being apprehended, and then stop and do a full backflip, like, let me just double check here. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna replay. Obviously there's no sound for you guys, But yeah, he came to a full stop then did a backflip. I think, you

know, gymnasts and cheerleaders would call that a back tuck. And he did it successfully and then of course made it about ten yards before he was taken to the ground with a taser. And I mean, I don't encourage anybody to run on the field in any sport, or run on the court or you know, streak like we've seen at times, like you just shouldn't do that because you know, you look like I mean, you're you know, you don't have a right to be on the field just because you bought a

ticket, like there's nothing for you to gain. But I do know why idiots do it. There's no consequence. I mean, this nineteen year old kid, he knew he was gonna I mean, he probably did it because he knew the attention that he would receive. But he's nineteen. He doesn't care. He's not thinking about when people google his name in five years when he's looking for a career, they're going to find out that he's the idiot that ran on the field and did a backflip and then got taste. And

the consequence, as far as legally, is minimal. These are two misdemeanor charges that he received, so like he probably didn't mean did it he even get arrested or did this get like a citation? And was he told he had to go to court? Like it's still going to be like a criminal offense and he's going to have to go to court and face a judge and whatnot. But like they really don't make it to where you learn the hard way that you know, I think the learning that this young man's probably going

to have his years down the line. He's going to think, man, why did I do that? I was such an idiot. But he's nineteen. He was probably drunk as buddies thought it would be cool, so he did it. And the cop I mean, there's a great, great picture that Andy Lyons, who you may know the name Andy Lyons is a photographer for Getty Images. And I don't know if Andy lives in Louisville, but I know he has done photography for Getty Images for Louisville basketball and Louisville football

for many, many, many years. And he was there at the Reds game yesterday and he got a great picture that you should check out if you have and if you just google this story, you'll probably see it. But the picture of the cop letting him finish the backflip before shooting the taser, it makes me, really, I'm impressed with this law enforcement officer. I assume he's a cop. I mean, he's got a taser, and it looks like he's wearing an actual police uniform, but it's a little different than

your typical uniform, probably because you know he's working this event. But he could have easily tased this kid mid flip and it probably would have been something that he would have been justified in doing, but it might have killed the kid, right like you get tased mid backflip with your neck and your head facing down your I mean, I've never been tased, thankfully, Rick, have you ever been tasted? Never? Okay, good to know. I

don't want to be tased, how about you. I'd like to not be tased the rest of my life, right, so I would imagine though just guessing here that when you're tased like you probably lose all like, you probably go limp and you might fall and break your neck and die. And again that would have been a disastrous situation. It would not have been warranted for this man to this young man to lose his life. But look heat of

the moment. This officer's out there trying to get this kid, and the taser is gonna be what takes him down because he's not stopping, he's not giving himself up. And there's a great picture of what you know, I can't read his mind, but this still makes it look as if the cop was about to pull the trigger on the taser and he realized, okay, I might kill this kid. I probably don't want to do that, so he waits for him to land, only to then perfectly tase him. And

it looks like something out of a movie. And the video is just video from people who were there using their phone, so it doesn't look good. But the HD four K photos here that we have from Andy Lyons of Getty Images are really really well done. So again you're going to continue to see this happen, and it look it's harmless for the most part. Like, if you were out there naked, you're a complete jerk because there's children that are there, like, you're just a You're a sicko if you do that.

But you know, young night, I mean heck, maybe even a teen maybe even teenagers. There aren't even adults have done it, I'm sure, but it's going to continue to happen because there's not there's really not a big consequence for it. And the consequence that is there is not something that people that are you know, of that age. I mean some, I'm sure there are plenty of people that are nineteen years old like this kid, that are mature and realize that would be a really big mistake. I don't

want to get arrested. I don't want to go viral for being, you know, an idiot. But there's many others that age that don't think that deeply because you know, they're probably drunk at a baseball game with their friends. And yes, he's not legally allowed to drink, but I'm sure there was some alcohol involved here. I don't know that for certain, but I'd be shocked if this nineteen year old was stone cold sober when he decided to

run on the field. Also, it's happened from time to time. But if you run onto any any field or core, like if you run onto the floor in an NBA game, or you run on the field in an NFL game, or like this young man, you run on a field at a baseball game, or it could be college football or college basketball, and you know, one of these superhuman athletes, especially if we're talking like the NFL, if they decide to help out security, law enforcement and take you

out, like that should be allowed, Like it should be Why don't we just let the officer casually stroll over to you know what might be a dead body. I mean, I'm exaggerating. I'm not saying these people should be killed, but I do kind of wish it was just it was just a known thing that if you're out there on the field in an NFL game as a player and you've got a knucklehead running on the field, you know, collectively somebody take his ass out, because, by the way, there'd be

a bigger ovation for that than just people cheering. Somebody who you know, made their way to the field and got past security and you know, is having fun. But it didn't happen very often, and I think it was in the pac twelve one of the schools up there in the Pacific Northwest.

It might have been Washington State or Oregon State. Years ago, there were kids that stormed the field and I think it was a little premature, and they were running, you know, running towards the field as players of the losing team were running off the field to go to the locker room, and

you know, you're just going to cross paths. And there was a player who I'm sure he knew what he was doing, but it wasn't like you went out of his way to to you know, assault somebody, but he basically trucked over a student who was running on the field as he was running off the field, and that student end up filing a lawsuit, and you know, it just makes it even more I mean, people, look,

fans should never be on You're not part of the entertainment. You don't you don't have, you don't have a right to be on the field court whatever it may be. And if you do that, you know, actually to be honest with you, when it comes to the you know, misdemeanor, very minor charges that you get from doing that, unless you of course, you know, again I think it's different if you're out there streaking, but if you just run on the field again. This kid got charged with two

misdemeanors. I don't know the actual charges, but they were not serious. I actually think the bigger consequence that could happen is to just, you know, have one of these professional athletes, regardless of what sports they play, they just take you out. That would probably be the most severe punishment that you could actually get, and maybe you would really enjoy the attention you get from it, or maybe you would actually learn your lesson at that point and

you'd say, yeah, probably shouldn't do that again. But if you haven't seen these pictures, I'm actually gonna tweet a couple of them out because they are I mean talk about getting the right shot at the right time. And you can see whatever comes off the taser, like the you know, the the string or whatever it is that has the actual whatever it is that tases you on it. I mean the visual here of this officer, the look on his face and the kid realizing, uh oh, like I've got you

know it's happening. I'm getting electrically, I mean basically getting electroccuted. It seemingly it's it's just it's art, is what it is. It's art. Haven't seen anything official, but I did see someone share it in one of the Louisville Facebook groups. Yeah, I wouldn't believe everything you see in a Facebook group, although I find myself at times getting lost in Facebook groups, not those that are about Louisville Athletics, but just

you know, like my neighborhood group. I'm from Bullet County and there's a lot of different Bullet County Facebook groups out there that I'm kind of a quiet member of. I've never posted or commented, but I just like to just look at the drama. So yeah, I don't know what Facebook group you're referring to. But Brian Clolehman, pat Kelsey's top assistant coach, was on a podcast I believe, yesterday and mentioned they're trying to get a home,

and they're trying to get a series set up with Memphis. It won't happen this year, of course, but they're working on getting Memphis on the schedule for not just one year. But I think Memphis they've got somebody who covers their program that kind of confirmed that this is something that is in the works. They want to potentially do a home and home where Louisville will host Memphis and then play Memphis, and they'll have a neutral side game in Nashville,

which could be a lot of fun. Yeah, Memphis, You know Memphis. Of course, there's a lot of history between Louisville and Memphis, one of Louisville's longest standing rivals in basketball. Didn't feel like it as much anymore. And I'll be honest with you as someone my age, you know, when Louisville and Memphis played during my childhood, you know, there wasn't as

much hatred there, right at least not that I can remember. I mean, I remember Calipari at Memphis and the battles that Louisville and Memphis had during that time. But the real, you know, the roots, if you will, of the Louisville Memphis rivalry that was long before I was around.

But yeah, since we talked a lot of basketball scheduling today, no doubt I would love to add Memphis. I mean, they're still in the American which for unfortunately that league continues to get gutted as expansion has taken place. A lot of the other you know teams I guess that you would say are somewhat similar to Memphis. They've been able to move on from the league,

whereas Memphis is still stuck there. But look, if Penny's there, they'll always have some level of relevance and some talent because he brings talent in. So yeah, I've I'd love that. I'd love that kind of matchup. I mean, again, I know it's it's really how a lot of these programs at the low D one levels survive getting a check to go play some

of these teams that have you know, twenty thousand seed arenas. There's a reason they call them a bye game, and if you know you blues a by game, it's a bad look, which Louisville has lost a few of them in recent years. But I just you know, I if I'm going to look at it from just a pure entertainment standpoint as a college basketball fan, I would love every game to feature a team that is not of the

lower level of D one. I mean, you don't need three hundred and sixty five teams in the Division one level, and there's no benefit to playing those teams. And anyway, I'd love for somebody to tell me the benefit of playing UNBC. You're not learning a lot about your team. You may blow them out, but it doesn't really mean anything. If they stink. You could end up playing them closer than you feel like you should. Because

again I talk about this all the time. You can tell yourself, hey, I'm gonna treat this as if we're playing the ninety seven Bulls and we're gonna come out and compete, but you know, deep down like you're not. You can lie to yourself, but eventually the human element kicks in and you realize you're playing a team that you know you could probably coast a little

bit and still win big. The only benefit would be is that you get a chance to actually, you know, work out some things, maybe you know, try to, you know, work out new lineups, give young guys some some real reps in games that you know are not close. Because you're blowing them out, but there have been example of teams who schedule terribly in the non conference and it keeps them out of the tournament. So yeah,

I hope they get Memphis on the schedule. Don't know when that will happen or if it's actually going to but it sounds like that is something they are they're working on. Let's see, let's do this again. Another very quick segment here, but I want to make sure we have as much time as possible in the five o'clock hour because there's a lot of when to get to, including more of your texts that have come in on the Ellen and

Federal Credit Union text line. We now have a I guess an official breakdown of this new NIL multi team tournament that's going to take place in Vegas in college basketball, and I have a feeling that you're going to see multiple tournaments like this pop up in years to come, and I don't want to act as if this is going to be a big topic of conversation. However,

I believe the first state. There could be other states that have done this, but I haven't seen it yet, but Illinois, I believe, is the first state that is going to introduce a shot clock in high school basketball, and I have strong thoughts on that, So again we'll keep it rolling along. One more hour to go. Again, it is coffee and Company, and we are Field by Thornton's right here on Sports Talk seven ninety
