It's time for Coffee and Company, fueled by Thornton's on Sports Talk seven ninety. Holy crap, I don't know who the hell we think when we are get off our show, idiot. The kids are crying or turning off, crying. Countries are screwing it up. Gold Play Inn Murals, Brother, gold Play Inner Murals. They're supposed to be mature adults, but they're really not. Who's the kid here? Who's the kid here? Are you kidding me? Now? Here's nick coffee? All right, let's get it on,

folks, Let's get the party started. Welcome in to a Thursday edition Coffee and Company fuel Beth Thornton's here on Sports Talk seven ninety. A beautiful Thursday, I should add today. I mean it's perfect outside, no humidity, the sun is shining. I don't know. Is it warm. I mean it's not cold, but it may be warmer than I thought, just because there's no humidity. Humidity can really make a big difference. It's nearly eighty today, Oh man, it's perfect right, and it doesn't feel like

that because normally eighty around here feels like ninety. Yeah. When I walk outside of my garage, that's when I usually just know right, you know, when I leave in the afternoon. In the morning it's different, but usually you know that humidity will smack you right in the face. And if it doesn't do that, I'm thinking, okay, we could be in good shape here. There's times though, where the humidity is terrible, but the temperature is not that high at all, and it's just sticky and gross.

But it is a beautiful day, I know that, and hopefully you guys are enjoying it. So I was going to ask you a question, John, and then it dawned on me. You and I've had lunch together before, but I don't know if i've ever seen you eat. And trust me, I'm not trying to like bring up your eating habits and try to point out things that you do that prefer eating that makes you different than others, because everybody has their own preferences. But I bring all this up because do

you have a favorite chip, A favorite chip? I love sour cream and onion chips, or do you mean like a brand or like a style of chip? No sour creamin Onion's fine, because I don't. I don't eat much. I mean, I like, I don't. I don't know anybody that doesn't like chips. Yeah, I mean there's I have preferences, but like, there aren't many chips you could put in front of me that I wouldn't eat. I mean there are some, trust me, but you know, I like chips. Chips are good. They're not good for you,

but they taste good. We try not to eat chips at the house, but occasionally I will get the munchies and it'll be late at night and I'll go into our pantry and We've got like a big box of like the little bitty bags of chips because we used to put them in my daughter's lunch for school. And like last night, she uh, you know, I was I wanted some chips, and I realized, you know what, we don't have to pack her lunch anymore. She's out of school for the summer.

So I ended up having some chips. But I have found maybe my new favorite chip, if you consider it a chip, And it's not anything exciting, it's not a new chip. It's just something I didn't realize that I like. And that's cheese its. I mean, cheese its are pretty boring, right, yeah, but they're also very addictive. There there. I've never I mean i've had cheese its before. I've never seen cheese its in the store and think, oh, I gotta grab some. You know,

I've never been like, man, I really would like a snack. Let me go see if we have any cheese its like it just it's they're not sexy. What's better, though, is the extra toasty cheese its. Have you seen those before? I'm not sure I've had those, but we have in our kitchen here, like each week they bring in, you know, pretty nice spread for us. As far as snacks, wouldn't you say, variety of bags of chips, different you know, peanuts, pecans, you know, fruit snacks. I mean, they hook us up, so I

oftentimes don't use I don't get anything. But the other day I was like, you know what, I'm kind of kind of hunger. I get a snack here, So I grabbed a bag of cheese. It's not really feeling as if I was going to be impressed, but I think it might have been the only thing left. And now every day I think I eat three bags of these little cheeses, which isn't good for me, but like I

crave them now. I want them, like I can't stop eating them, and I think, I, you know, I need to we need to let Ms Joy know, who you know, is in charge of all that stuff. She's the one who stocks it up and kind of you know, takes care of us here at the office. If she keeps bringing Jesus, I'm gonna eat them all. I put a lock box on them for you specifically. I mean I left with two bags of them yesterday, which I

probably shouldn't do, but like, I just can't stop eating them. And you know, it's not as if they just taste delicious, but like they're just good enough, great texture. You know, you can eat like two at a time. It's I don't know what it is, but I don't you know, anytime you get you know, you eat something new and you really like it. I don't know, I feel like there's some excitement there, like, Wow, I tried something that I like, but cheese it's

been around forever. Like they're not new, and again, they're not exciting, but I can't put them down one for me. I don't know how new these are, but I think they've gotten popular over the last couple of years. And it's the dots pretzels. Oh Yeah, those things are super addictive. Yeah, they are little too like to me, they're a little

too dry, like pretzels. I've never been a huge pretzel guy. I mean they taste fine, but if I eat like a handful of any pretzel, even if it's flavored like the dots ones, I feel like I need to just chug water. But no, they are good. They're really good. Like they've got a they got like a Southwestern flavor that I don't even know what it is, but it's really really good. So I don't like to eat a lot of snack food because you know it's not good for you.

But I've just been going crazy on these cheese It's and I don't know, I feel I feel more like a b I feel more boring now that I'm a cheese at guy, because you know, it's I think it's just a classic. It's been around long enough. There's millions and millions of commercials we've seen about them. They're all over the place. What's your favorite brand? Like, if you're gonna get you say sur cumin onion, right, that's probably my favorite flavor of chip. What do you have a brand like

you're gonna get? Like? Is that me. I think it was you. The hell was that I thought I disabled all these things on the computer? What the hell was that? It's gonna drove me crazy? If that's the email thing. Again, somebody's messed with this computer while I was gone, and I'm not happy about it. People think Studio B is just a recreational studio sometimes. Anyways, back to the important conversation here. Chips, you ruffles? You like Lay's. Think I have brand loyalty when it comes

to chips because I don't either eat pretty much any of them. I like Lay's pringles. You said ruffles, They're all pretty good. I don't have any I'm not uh this. There's only one brand that makes these. But I love funions. Oh yeahs onions are really really good. I like kettle cooked barbecue chips, and I'm not a I'm not a big dorito guy you like. I don't mind them. I just I could go without them. I like nacho cheese, but not the cool ranch hold most people cool ranch

guy. Right, Yeah, there's a there's a purple like a like a spicy sweet something. Oh yeah, I've ever had those. Those are pretty good. Yeah. So anyways, the reason I started with that is because I was worried I wasn't gonna be able to get this entire small bag of cheese its down before you know we got the show started. But thankfully I was able to get it done. I'm sure I'll have more throughout because I can't stop eating them. All right again, welcome in. It is coffee

and Company. You know the drill. We are fueled by Thornton's and I'm quite sure I've not purchased them there, but I would be willing to bet that Thornton's has cheese its too, and they probably got any other chip that you'd want. But the reason I'm telling you about Thornton's again is because we are fueled by Thornton's and you need to sign up to become a member of

the Thornton's Refreshing Awards program. There's all kinds of incentives, including saving gas or saving money every time you put gas in your vehicle, and they have annual sweepstakes that are awesome. At one point they gave away free fuel for an entire year to I think two hundred people. This past holiday season, each week they gave away ten thousand dollars to a lucky member of the Refreshment

Award programs. So sign up if you haven't already, go to Refreshing Awards dot com or download their app, and you'll be happy that you did. All right, So what I wanted to start with today is last night's deadline for guys to remove their name from the NBA Draft, and I don't think there was really any big shocker. I don't think there was anybody that everybody. I don't think there was anyone that folks expected to stay in the draft

that came back and vice versa. Honestly, the big man Alex Caraban for Yukon was probably the bigger surprise, but that was earlier in the day when it got down to like the end of the night. By the way, we'll get to the Jackson Robinson situation, because I actually really like what that kid did. I feel like, you know, I don't know anything about him at all. And by the way, he did commit to Kentucky. For those who aren't aware, he is coming back to college and he's going

to transfer from BYU to go play for Mark popaka Kentucky. Certainly a good addition for Kentucky. But you know, he didn't tell anybody, didn't tell

anybody what he was doing. But the fact that guys can make money in college basketball through INNIL has helped this sport more than I think any sport when it comes to this new world of ANIL and even the portal too, right, because I think in certain instances there'd be guys that would be willing to stay in the draft or maybe just know, Hey, I'm not I'm not going to go back to school because I'm burnt out at this place and I don't want to, you know, I don't. I don't. I can't

transfer. So because you have both the ability to make money and you can kind of, you know, go wherever you want and transfer any time you want, it's led to the better players in college basketball coming back and playing more years at the collegiate level, and that's good for the sport. You

know. I'm deeply and madly in love with the sport of college basketball, but I also have to remind myself every now and then that like other people love the sport too, but it's not like it doesn't move the needle like the NFL. Certainly, college football not really close when it comes to nationally, So you know, at times I feel like, hey, why aren't people talking more about college hoops. Why aren't they acknowledging the fact that this

sport is really really thriving from this from these changes. And it's just because it's not that, you know, people probably don't even notice, you know, fans notice that, you know, love college basketball, or if you just realize what you know, you follow your team specifically, it's still the same. You know. I'm sure you're aware that it's that it's totally different. But I guess if you're really only looking at it from just your team,

which a lot of people do that, and that's totally fine. I guess you you know, you probably decide if the changes that have been made a few years ago. Your determination if it's good or bad, it depends on has it helped or hurt your team? And I get it, Like that's how, you know, how a lot of people are wired. Like a lot of people don't watch a ton of college basketball. They just watch

their team, and that's totally okay. But what we have right now is the ACC Player of the Year, the PAC twelve Player of the Year, one first Team All American, two second Team All Americans, and two third Team All Americans have all this are all coming back to college basketball next year, and they're doing that when the draft is as weak as it's ever been.

I don't really know what that says about these players. Now. Certainly there are guys that will potentially be All Americans once again, but they just do not They don't translate to the NBA in any way. And I'm sure some of those guys that are included in what I just laid out there that

is the case. But this is good for college basketball because these guys can make probably you know, some of them can make more money than they would if they were on just a G League deal or if they were on you know, a rookie contract playing overseas somewhere, and you know, they can go whatever they want. So if NIL still existed but the portal didn't, I wonder how much we would I wonder how much we would see as far

as like guys doing the same thing. You know, like if you're Coleman Hawkins and you knew if you came back to college for your final year of eligibility it had to be at Illinois. I don't know if he would have done it. I mean, he seemed to be fond of his days at Illinois, but he also said at the NBA Draft combine that if he does remove his name from the draft, which he did, he never wants to

play in the Big Ten again. So, I you know, I think this is monumental for college basketball, and I think that's a good thing. But I don't know if anybody else cares. John, you care Indiana's you know, they're getting a lot of love. She is Woodson. I don't know how much of it is nil. It could be a combination of both. But this is the most I guess I've seen come to Indiana from a

combined recruiting class when it comes. I mean, I know they only have one freshman, but this is the most talent I feel like I've seen come in in a long time for Indiana. Because of those things, it's just you have a completely new way to, i mean, build your roster and even if you don't have to. That's what coaches like Louisville and Kentucky were in unique situations this year where their coaches had to literally build teams from scratch.

That likely won't happen maybe not ever again, but like that's a I mean, maybe the next time that happens is when you replace a coach.

But just because of how rosters turn over this day and age, you know, would I be shocked if next year the Louisville's going and looking for instead of thirteen scholarship players, maybe they're looking for six seven like that still kind of sounds crazy, but if you consider the way things have played out in the last few years, I think that's going to be the norm, and

I think some people are still uncomfortable with that. You want to see a guy stick around and play four years, maybe not even four years, but just somebody that you don't have to because here is the downside that I understand when people try to give me the negative side of the portal. If you have a player who is young that maybe isn't getting thirty minutes a game,

but they're fifth or sixth man, maybe they started half the year. Then they come off the bench and they're showing a lot of upside, maybe averaging about nine ten a game, and you can see this, this guy's going to be a good player in a year or so. You have to worry like they're gonna leave because I don't think there's any transfer that could take place in college basketball that deep down you can say, oh my god, I'm stunned, why would they ever leave? Because they can and they can probably

go get more money, and they just maybe want a fresh start. I mean, there are some moves in the portal that are, you know, more of a head scratcher than others, but deep down, like you should not consider anybody like you. There are rare, rare exceptions, right Like, if you are from where you committed to go to school and that team is really good, they have an ael money and you play a lot, you probably wouldn't want to leave. But if you do, I don't know

if people should be that shocked. So I fear change. That's just my nature as a human being. And I was fearful whenever all this took place, not really knowing what to expect, and it has been sort of a free for all when it comes to the nil side of it. But here we are, what three years in, and I feel like it's safe to

say that this has been a good thing for college basketball. And if we're just going to talk about the local teams, you know, for Kentucky, I can't really point anything specifically that that has happened that has let like, I can't think of anything in the portal that well, I guess maybe Antonio Reeves. You know, he wouldn't be somebody that you would have ever had, and it was Oscar Sheboy no because if you remember, he had to sit out, so like he I mean, he transferred, but before the

before you were allowed to transfer without sitting out, he'd already transferred. So you know he is a big time transfer. But like they didn't land him because of this change, if that makes sense. Yeah, so Trey Mitchell, I mean for them last year. I mean that because of Huggins, Duy and whatnot. But then again, like you know, he wasn't a

great player. But what I always think about is that if the portal did not exist, I deep down, first of all, we'll never know, but I deep down do not believe that Kenny Payne would still be the coach because people would be saying, well, you got to give him time. I think even with no portal, no nil, if you win twelve games

in two years at Louisville, you can you should be fired. And anybody claiming that was like an overreaction is you know, to be honest, just wrong, so he'd still probably be gone, but you know, he'd probably have a lot of last year's team, and I think some of those players refined players, and I think they'll end up being solid wherever they are.

But I think the roster you have right now is certainly a lot better than what you lost, and that gives you, you know, like Pat Kelsey, building a brand new team from scratch happens because of the portal, and he's done a fine job at that. In fact, now that all the rosters are not all the way set, because there's still guys that decided to come back to college that are in the portal, So I'm sure these will

adjust. But you've got the folks at the Field of sixty eight. I know, ESPNS, Jeff Borzello. They're cranking out their updated Top twenty five, which again will change when some of these big names end up landing somewhere, but you know, just to see Louisville is now cracking the top twenty five preseason, coming off of two disastrous seasons with a brand new coach and a brand new team who built this roster from scratch again, who knows how

good they're going to actually be And being preseason ranked I mean, technically doesn't really mean anything. And for Louisville, it's never something you would feel like accomplished about because it used to just be the norm. But given the circumstances and what's happened recently, just to see that buzz out there, that's exciting as hell. And I don't think you'd have that with with the without the portal. In fact, here's what would have Here's here's how this would have

played out. Kelsey probably would have brought. In fact, he wouldn't been able to bring many guys from Charleston because the portal wouldn't exist, right, they'd have to sit out. Maybe he'd bring it, maybe Rain Smith as a grad student or something like that. And then he probably would have, you know, brought back a good chunk of last year's team. And look, with a new coach, that team would have been a lot better.

Now how good they would have been, I'm not sure, but the off season we would just have to just convince ourselves, well, this new coach is going to make this team a lot better, and you'd never I mean, and again, we still don't know how good this team's gonna actually be. When it's all said and done. But because you can start all over and start fresh and essentially just go get better players than the ones you just

had, maybe not at every single spot. I mean that gives us this offseason in college, you know, as a Louisville basketball fan, where you can think big. And I'm not talking about making a run to the Final Four in the first year, but Louisville fans have, in my opinion one thousand percent, the right to feel as if their team could be pretty good next year and make the tournament. That's not a crazy thing to say.

It sounds crazy because they haven't sniffed the tournament in a long time. Again, they won eight games this past year, four games the year before, But like, none of that matters. It's all everything's brand new, and

that that's exciting to me. All right, before we get to our first break, and I want to talk about this Jackson Robinson move last night, which again I applaud him for just completely ghosting everybody and people still waking up this morning not knowing did the guy pull his name out of the draft or not what's going on here. It's a savvy move on his part. But I have a favorite player in this draft that you've probably never heard of. John, give him to me, Jay z Zahir, Yeah, correct,

never heard of him. He is a sophomore six foot guard from Fenton, Michigan. Oddly enough, he wore number seventeen, which is which is a rare number. He played at Bowling Green Bowling Green Falcons part of the MAC and he announced yesterday that he is staying in the twenty twenty four NBA Draft after averaging zero point seven points and one rebound per game, did not record a single assist, and shot twelve percent from the field. This guy is staying in the draft. I want to know. I have to know.

Is this a stunt? Is this to be funny? Is this because like he's not getting drafted. He's not and he knows that. So I guess there's this scenario that he just thinks that. I mean, he didn't even get an invite like any I mean, nobody knows who he is. But I feel like this is a stunt. Which, hey, it's getting him talked about on Coffee and Company, which is something people dream of. John, right, I mean that's a big deal. Maybe that was his goal

all along, But yesterday John Rostein. Remember we were talking about Rostein's Rostin's tweets and how he's just like, you know, kind of a goober, gives names to everybody and just like you know, just the Rostin brand is pretty pretty distinct. On Twitter, he tweeted out Bowling Green's Jay Z's I hear tells me he's staying in the twenty twenty four NBA draft. Rostein knew what he was doing when he posted that, right, people will say,

who the hell's that? And this guy like Dming or maybe he already has a connection to Rostein. Hey, I'm sure you're going and a lot of people asking what you're hearing, But let him know I'm staying in the dry like this. This is brilliant because now again this guy's being talked about more than he'll ever be talked about in his life when it comes to basketball, and he's my favorite player and I want to interview him. I want to bring him on and like, hey, so you know where you're gonna be

watching the draft? Man a man, congratulations. I know it's going to be a special moment when when you hear the commissioner or his backup that comes out in the second round, call your name. It's going to be a special moment. Man really really happy for you, because he probably would lean

into it. If this thing is what I think it is in regards to it just being some kind of joke, he should have some fun with it, Like he should go to draft night, buy a ticket and like sit in the crowd with a suit, have somebody with a camera filming it, and like present it like act stunned when nobody calls his name. So, Coffee and Company, we are officially all in on Jay Zsa here. I mean, I can't speak for John. Are you all in with me? Of course? Why not. Let's do it all right, Let's take a

quick break. We'll come back on the other side. Keep this thing rolling along. We have no guest schedule today, so we're going to make it up have some fun like we always do, so stick around right here on Sports Talk seven ninety the charges being dropped yesterday in the Scottie Scheffler situation dominated the show, and we'll move on from it today. However, when I saw the press release, I guess the statement that the detective Brian Jillis Gillis

whatever his name is sent to the local news stations. I thought it was I thought it was fake. I thought like this was just somebody like you know, saying, hey, this is probably what this guy would say, And turns out it is real. Have you seen it, John, No, let me read it for you. It says for immediate release. Detective Brian Jillis statement, A tragic incident occurred in the family of mister Mills.

Remains in my family, these thoughts and prayers. This was a very chaotic situation for everyone involved in ensuring the safety of everyone in the vicinity was my utmost priority. Mister Sheffler and I both agree that there will be no ill will over this going forward. Instead of giving a negative public reaction, he chose to speak with dignity, humility, and respect. My family and I

appreciate that. It was unfortunate and disturbing to hear Steve Roman's commentary today claiming that a false arrest was made and for him to challenge my honesty and integrity. I'd be surprised and disappointed if mister Scheffler actually had any part in making those statements. To be clear, I was drug by the car. I went to the ground, and I received visible injuries to my knees and wrist. I'm going to recover from it and I will be okay. This is

the extent of my commentary on the incident. The reality is that there are more important things in the world right now than a back and forth over this. A person lost his life that day, and if family lost a loved one at the end of the day, I take pride in working for the people in the community to preserve their safety. I've spent two decades trying to protect this city through some challenging times. Like to keep doing so without the

distractions caused by this series of events. With Scotty Scheffler and his family, all the best, sincerely, Brian Gillis. And then he has a PS at the bottom. Oh boy, ps dot dot dot Yes, the department has us buying freaking eighty dollars pants to those concerned. They were indeed ruined. But Scotty, it's all good. I never would have guessed I'd have the most famous pair of pants in the country for a few weeks because of this. Take care and be safe. I mean, I got a lot

of thoughts here. One notice what he said about the pants He didn't see ruined or he didn't say like they were you know, ripped or torn, or he said they were ruined, which again makes me think he might he might actually pooped his pants. I mean, ruined could mean a lot of things. If my pants were like ripped and damaged, I would I would say, you know, they were ripped, they were torn. He just says ruined. And I think it might be because he was so scared for

his life that he pooped his pants. I mean, I don't know that for sure, but that's that's the way I think it played out. But this was just like you need to just stay out of the way, my man, like you don't like not like what what did he think would be to gain from that? I mean, whenever it's public that you have issues throughout your career, where you've been reprimanded, you've been written up, I

don't know what the punishment level has been. It to me, it just seems like something that you like just you know, lay low and hope you keep your job and just you know, try to forget about it. But yeah, I mean I think if he was actually dragged like he claims, I don't think they would be dropping charges. And if you don't like what Steve Roman said about you follow the policy for the company you work for, and then you wouldn't have to worry about it. You wouldn't have to,

you know, he said. She said, that's your fault, and you don't get the benefit of the doubt. Whenever, the other video that we did see doesn't really back up what you're claiming, even if something did take place prior to when the video started, and also your your history. Like I just thought it was really stupid for him to say anything. But if he would have had his camera on, which we've already beaten that horse to death, we wouldn't know whether or not yet, Like d you, It's

what I'm saying. If you follow your own policy and you have your body came on, then like you know, you know, then Steve Romans wouldn't be able to say that. Steve Rowins wouldn't be able to say things that you know, you could prove were incorrect. If you followed your own company's policy, your employer's policy, and you had your body came on and you pooped your pants and now you got a big mess on your hands in more ways than one. Anyways, it's Coffee and Company. We are feeled Thornton's

Heira on Sports Talk seven ninety. Let's go to the text line five O two six five three zero seven nineties the number if you want a text in this textays Nick, speaking of this brand new team. I'm excited as well. But why isn't everybody here yet? Well, I mean some guys just committed within, like you know, the last week or so, so like

right now. I mean, I know, Terrence Edwards Junior is here, CHUCKI Hepburn's here, James Scott is here, Caseon Pryor just got here, Javon Hadley I believe, is here, and then the others that have yet to arrive or enroll as everybody else. But I mean, I don't think it's any I mean, I don't think that you know that that is anything to be worried about. They'll be here, you know, probably in the next you know, if you get to June fifteenth and maybe nobody has nobody

else has arrived, it doesn't by the way, that won't. Let's just say there's still three guys that haven't arrived or enrolled in school yet by June fifteenth. If that won't mean that you should be panicked I'm sure there, you know. Heck, there could be somebody. I don't know if this is this is the case or not, but there could be one of these guys that needs to take a summer class or something before they can, you know, get enrolled for the fall. I don't know that to be the

case, so I'm not trying to worry anybody. But if all thirteen guys aren't here in the next few weeks, I still won't be shocked or stunned. I mean they don't technically. I mean, you're allowed to do certain stuff in the summer much more now than you used to be able to as far as like the offseason. So I'm sure once that stuff starts, you'll see you'll see these guys here. But maybe not. I mean Khalifa, maybe not as early because I don't know. You know, he's red shirting,

at least he's believed to be red shirting. Kobe Rodgers, same thing. But yeah, there's going to be a level of desperation among Louisville fans, I think when it comes to just seeing anything from this group, right, like, even if you had a returning team in years past, if there was clips from like an open run or a workout video. It would get you, it would get you excited, and you'd be you know you, I can't wait till basketball season. Right now, you've got nothing to

go off of. I mean, you've seen highlights of these guys playing elsewhere, but you've never seen them playing together. And there probably won't be much to take from it. But I would imagine when they start practicing and they all start working out and everybody's here, the U OFL social media accounts for the men's basketball program are going to be posting clips and it's gonna be I

mean, people are gonna lose their minds and they're probably gonna overreact. Right A guy may get a break, may get a dunk at the end of a video clip on Instagram, and people are you know, might start thinking, here we go, We're about to do something special, and yeah, that's insane, but that's what we are. We are insane about our basketball programs around here. And again, the desperation level and just the you know, the hunger for Louisville fans to have something to cheer about and be excited

about. It's never been I mean, I never thought Louisville basketball be in this situation where they'd have a brand new team, thirteen scholarship players, and you know, a new coach that three months ago a lot of us didn't know anything about. Some people probably didn't even know who he was. And now he's the guy and he won us over, and he's put together a pretty damn good team. Mark Pope, I will give him credit. He's

put together a pretty damn good team too. If I'm being honest with you, I mean, again, you don't know how any of this is gonna work out, right, But I think Kentucky fans also have, you know, good reason to be excited about their new era. The addition of Jackson Robinson was a big one. I mean, I think he's their best player.

So you know, they already had some good pieces added. So I think when you consider the fact that they were already looking like a team that was doing pretty well in the portal and then they go add Jackson Robinson here at the at you know, at the deadline, and that's that's substantial. So what I do love about Jackson and Robinson is his decision to actually I'd love to ask him. I mean, I probably will never speak to him.

I'm not going to seek out an interview to ask this question, but did he just did he want to keep it completely silent and quiet and not

let anybody know is he really? Is? He not active on social media to where he never would have even thought to send out any kind of a signal on Twitter or Instagram or TikTok or whatever to like teach because you've seen it players who were yet to make a decision yesterday during the day, they were sending out tweets of like the emoji with the big eyes and just trying to kind of tease one way or the other to keep people on the edge

of their seat and build up, you know, excitement for an announcement. And this kid didn't do anything. I mean, midnight was the deadline.

Those that cover college basketball, you know, Borsello Goodman, they were up late reporting on every big name that decided to either stay in the draft come back, and nobody ever heard anything from Jackson Robinson, truly Donovan apparently like late last night, like after midnight, he said nobody, you know, anybody, everybody that he's talked to has said that nobody knows what he did. Did he nobody knows if he's actually he pulled his name out, or

if he's staying in, he hasn't told anybody. There are coaches at other schools that didn't know. But then I think the only way we found out was that Borzello broke it on ESPN this morning whenever it was, maybe was early afternoon, that he did pull his name out of the draft last night, and he is going to go play for Mark Pope Kentucky. I wonder if that was his plan all along. But if you were, I mean, try to put yourself in his shoes. He's twenty two, maybe twenty

three, this will be his fifth year. If you were in that position, I think it'd be hard to not, you know, and make some kind of announcement on your social media. You don't have to do like a hype video, but just like you know, maybe a graphic or maybe even just a tweet that says, you know, I'm coming back to college and I'm gonna go play for Mark Pope. Hopefully you could do something better than

that to make it more exciting, but nothing from him at all. Imagine if he did the whole thing where you know, you had Hunter Dickinson and Bill selvat Twitter. In fact, that might that might have been why he decided like not to do anything like, Hey, I don't want to I don't want to look you know, that would have been a very hope thing to do. Yeah, because that was his previous player. He's obviously familiar with Jackson Robinson. My guess is that My guess is that he probably just

isn't active on social media that much. I mean, I don't know that for sure, but a lot of kids, I mean a lot of I feel like Coleman Hawkins, who I started following him right after it became clear that he was in the Portland Louisville was involved in some way, but like he tweet. I think every every few hours he tweets something that is some kind of like cryptic message that he wants fans to try to decipher as far

as does this mean he's gonna come to our school? So and I'm fine with guys doing that, right, I mean, you only go through that experience probably once in your I was gonna say once in your life. Heck, you could do it every year now because you could transfer as many times

as you want. Uh. But I mean I'm sure if I was, if I was in that position at that age, I'd probably be doing the same thing as far as utilizing social media, because look, it's all about building your brand, right, I mean, because he left everybody guessing. There were a lot of people talking about Jackson Robinson last night that would not have been talking about him had he just decided, you know, two days

ago, and you did wait till the last minute. What's crazy, though, is that he might have actually pulled his name out of the draft like four days ago. But I guess there's no way of knowing that until he tells somebody. But no doubt that was a good a good get for for Mark Pope. Would have been really funny though if he ended up going to Arkansas or back to BYU, because he's now the only kid that has played

for Mark Pope that is following him. And I know little act is if they didn't want any of those guys, which they did, I mean the richie something that transfer or that that hit the portal visited and then decided to go back to BYU. They wanted Khalifa. I don't think they mean Noah Waterman. It sounds as if he was going to be coming the Louisville before he ever hit the portal. But Jackson, I would say, if you're Mark Pope and you can only bring one guy with you from BYU, I

would imagine Robinson would have been would have been that guy. Has an interesting story too as far as just how his career has played out. He committed to play for Buzz Williams I believe in the twenty twenty class and was there for I think one year. Didn't play much at all, didn't have a role. Then he transferred to Arkansas to play for Muss same thing. Didn't didn't you know, didn't have much of a role. Then at BYU in his first year for Pope, averaged about eight points a game, and then

last year really broke out. Was all Big twelve honorable mention, Big twelve six Man of the Year, put up some good numbers. So maybe maybe he's a guy that just you know, blossomed a little bit later. All right, quick break, we'll come back on the other side. Get to the text line. If you're on hold, Fibou two five seven, one seventy nine hundred is the number if you guys want to give us a call, and what we'll do in the four o'clock hour we'll let you know where

both Louisville and Kentucky and even Indiana. In fact, they're higher than both Louisville and Kentucky and some of these early preseason rankings. So stick with us right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. All right, so you won't if you missed the beginning of the show, you won't believe the really creative and interesting and entertaining topic I started with that was cheese. Its. But somebody's put up a good point here on the text line, because I've now found

out that I really do like cheese. It's once I started eating them, I can't stop, and I actually do now kind of crave them. But forever they were always just one of the many bags of chips or in the chips section that I would just you know, ignore, because they're not they're not exciting, they're kind of boring. But at one point here at iHeart and our big, our big bowl of chips that we have, not you know, all mixed together, but just a bunch of the small bags.

It was all we had left. And I eat some the other day and I've been eating them ever since. But somebody asked me if I believe and I don't know if maybe they're gonna give me the answer whenever I say this, if there's the if there's a difference in goldfish and cheese its and and they're just shaped different, they are kind of the same, aren't they. That's a good point. But I do think gold fish that made by the same people, are they No, goldfish are more salty. I believe.

I haven't had a goldfish cracker in a long time, but I do believe they're more salty. Man, when you have kids. Uh, that's like one of the first things that our kids would eat, you know, once they just stopped doing nothing but baby food or whatever. They have the baby sized goldfish. That's right, dude. I would I would go through those. If i'd wake up hungover, I would just go in the pantry and

just demolish those. But I don't feel like, I don't know, if I had to pick one, I would take the cheese its size, depth, texture, crunch, just enough salt like that's that's what's got me. As you can tell, I'm madly in love with them. I mean, I think you'd like the extra toasty ones. I didn't even know there's a thing they make it crunchy. Yeah, well they look more burnt. They can have more of a I don't even know what you call it, but

it just has an interesting flavor to it. It adds to the the initial cheese at flavor. I'll have to keep that in mind, but again I don't I can't remember the last time I bought a bag of chips somewhere, but maybe now I'm gonna have to because I got to give these a shot. If if you see any, if you have any at home, John, bring them in and I'll give them, give them a little taste test.

All right. So we're still many, many many weeks away from college football starting, but we do now have some more information as far as time and television network for Louisville football. We talked yesterday or maybe it was Tuesday, I remember what day it was in regards to the Peacock only game that Louisville will have when they play Notre Dame. Well, now we know of

another game that'll be strictly streamed. Again, you can watch it on TV, but it is only going to be broadcast via stream and that's the ACC network extra. When Louisville kicks off their seat and against Jacksonville. I'm sorry, I apologize, I had it mixed up. So they'll kick off the season at noon August thirty first against Austin p That'll be on the ACC network,

So that's actually, you know, a televised game. But week two they play Jacksonville State and that'll be Saturday three thirty ACC network extra, first time they've played Jacksonville State, who I believe just made the move to FBS. And then the other the other game that was released as far as the time and TV network is the Friday night game October twenty fifth at Boston College. That'll be at seven thirty on ESPN two. So I don't know.

Do people still hate noon games. People used to always complain about, oh we got another noon game. I love Noontville. I love noon games too, but I love them for like selfish reasons same not only because I get a chance to like finish, I could potentially finish up the postgame show, you know, a perfect world at like four o'clock ish and still have you

know, the rest of the day. And I you know, I know that makes me sound selfish, but like, you know, I I would like to have a weekend, you know, with my family, if I can or some time with him, I should say. So that's why I like those games, or I don't mind. I mean, I don't even mind the eight o'clock games. I mean that makes for a later night,

but you know, I don't mind that at all. But if you're thinking about the fan experience going to the game, I think like three point thirty is probably what a lot of people would prefer, or maybe even like a night game. But I think if you do noon, like you still, I mean, I don't know, I guess with three thirty kicks, I

feel like your entire day revolt is around the game. Yeah, because if it's three thirty, you're probably getting there, you know, around eleven forty five to start tailgating if you're somebody that you know really makes tailgating a big part of your experience, and then you're not getting out of there until probably I don't know, eight o'clockish. So yeah, three thirty makes it to where it really is your entire day. But I don't know, I don't

mind noon games. I think it used to be something that Louisville fans would bring up that the noon time led to maybe why attendance wasn't what you wanted it to be. But yeah, I don't mind. I don't mind noon games. But I can't remember the last time Louisville kicked off their season on a Saturday at noon against like a you know, kind of a no name opponent, no offense to Austin p But that's I mean, that's the one FCS game you're going to have lash. I really don't remember the last time

Louisville kicked off their season with a game like this. I'm gonna have to look it up. Because pre Bama, because they played Bam in twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen. It was Notre Dame SAT's first year twenty twenty that was the year they had the only ACC schedule, and they played Western at home to open the season on a on a Saturday night. I think it was the following year you opened up against was it Syracuse? Maybe? So?

Oh? No, Ole Miss? You played Old Miss in the Chick fil A Kickoff Classic, So yeah, I mean, I always like having a game to start with where you do feel like you're gonna learn some of about your team. Last year it was Georgia Tech, which isn't like some sexy matchup, but it is and it wasn't Atlanta, and it was against an ACC team, But a lot of schools start their season with these kind of

games. Who do you guys open up with Florida International? Yeah, so that's I mean, that's better than Austin p That's actually a team that's in the FBS. But yeah, maybe you know he's in a little bit put up some big numbers. I know I'm not right in this, but I feel like twenty sixteen, when Lamar won the Heisman, they opened up against Charlotte. Could that have been the last time they had that kind of an opener. But it wasn't a Saturday. It was like a Thursday night.

Anyway, we'll move on. We got two hours left and a lot more to get into. We'll tell you where Louisville, Kentucky, and Indiana are coming into these early college basketball rankings right here on Sports Talk seven to ninety
